Dear Ami

I've wanted to talk to you for so long, but this letter is the best I could do.

You might find this hard to believe, but you are pretty intimidating. It's not just that you are beautiful. It isn't even that you are the smartest person in the whole world. It's everything about you.

Maybe this is silly, but I even admire the way you respect the teachers. You are such a great student that I think you inspire them to be better at their jobs. Not just to teach us what we need to know, but to impart dreams and wonder onto us.

"Study! Study! Study harder!"

Sailor Teacher hurled a handful of chalks as if they were darts. Rain soaked as she was, Ami somehow still managed to dodge the miniature missiles.

"Mr. Amanogawa! Try to remember!" She implored. "Tonight is the night we can watch Wataru's Comet!"

"Star gentle Uterus!"

An energy blast shot at the Phage, it's face contorting in shock. Before the attack landed, however, Ami tackled the creature out of the way, shielding its body.

"What are you doing?" demanded Sailor Star-Maker.

"Don't hurt him. This person is a teacher I respect," Begged Ami. "I know he'll return to normal. Back to the teacher who taught us of dreams and wonder."

Do you know what my dream is?

My dream is that someday I will find that confidence and courage inside myself to actually talk to you.

Can you understand that, Ami? I hope so.

But I suppose someone like you has never had to struggle with anything like that. You always seem to believe in yourself no matter what.

Slowly but surely, Ami was falling.

Headfirst, she descended gently, her body completely unclothed.

Though her mouth remained closed, her voice somehow reverberated through the darkness.

If I can't even save Mr. Nishino… I'll be done as a Senshi as well if I don't do something…. I want more power. A strong power so I can protect everyone.

Mercury. Sailor Mercury

The second voice sounded like Ami's, though it was stronger, more confident.

Ami opened her eyes before all faded to black. Then, the sound of a single drop of water broke the silence.

Who is calling my name?

The darkness gave way to a now upright Ami floating above a body of water.

Feel it. The true power that lies dormant within you. Said the more confident voice.

Who are you?

I am you.

Sailor Mercury materialized from thin air, locking eyes with her naked counterpart.

The darkness completely lifted revealing the pair to be hovering above the centre of a stunning lake surrounded by mountains and green trees.

Remember your dreams. That feeling you felt when you first heard mr. Nishino's song.

My dreams…

And the sketches that your father always sends you.

A gentle breeze about her, Mercury fixed Ami with a soft, kind look of pride.

Realization dawned upon Ami's own features. That's it! She raised her hands to her heart and closed her eyes. What's important is how pure my heart is when I feel something!

At these words, Sailor Mercury, arms open wide, glided across the lake. Now, open your heart. She embraced Ami.

Then she vanished, her 'being' seemingly having entered Ami herself.

Give me the courage to unlock my true power… Ami's eyes snapped open, determination radiating from her blue eyes… to protect everyone.

"MERCURY CRYSTAL POWER, MAKE-UP!"

Even though you are so gentle, you never hold back. You always give it your all in tests, in class. In everything you do.

The room echoed with the sounds of splashing. Ami and a woman with turquoise hair sped through the swimming pool, reaching the wall at the exact same time.

Moments later, Ami was slumped over the pool's edge, still half submerged beneath the waves.

"See? Competing with all your strength isn't a bad thing, is it?" Said Michiru through panting breaths.

Panting herself, Ami looked up and smiled. "You're right."

Michiru smiled back and extended out her hand, helping Ami out of the water.

"Thank you," said Ami.

"No, thank you. It was fun. We should do this again sometime."

With that Michiru departed the pool area along with her Haruka.

Still smiling, Ami stretched and turned back to the pool. "I think I'll go for another swim…"

I know you will go far in life, Ami. You will fulfill all your own dreams. Nothing will ever stop you.

Ami stood in the airport lounge, grasping the pink package. As she opened the package, a little girl with equally pink hair and red eyes spoke up.

"I guess this is the kind of friendship you guys had," said Chibi-Usa.

Ami looked up from the package with quivering eyes, mild disbelief upon her face.

"Aren't I right?! I mean, it's weird that they didn't even show up to see you off?"

Ami's expression settled and she removed the contents of the package. "That's because I asked them not to."

"That doesn't matter!" shot back Chibi-Usa. "They always said that they were your friends!"

"Usagi and the others are wonderful friends," said said gently, yet firmly.

"That's a lie." Chibi-Usa's crimson eyes narrowed, cynicism radiating from them. "In the end, they only care about themselves!"

Ami looked to be considering the girl's words for a moment. But then her eyes widened as she took in the gift.

It was a blue watch adorned with a gold star. A gold star that resembled the one that topped the blue pen also contained in the package. Alongside the items there was a note that read:

'No matter where you go, we're there with you.'

"There must be some reason for it," Ami said calmly.

She raised the pen, bringing it to her eye level.

"Something very important," she whispered.

And when you fulfill those dreams, someday, somebody will make you very happy. I hope I can be that somebody.

Love-

At the two gentle knocks he strode across his apartment and opened the front door.

"Hello," smiled the beautiful blue haired woman. "You ready?"

"Yeah, just let me grab a jacket."

He'd only half turned away, when he spotted her pointing to something in his hand.

"What's that?" She asked.

It was only then he realized he was still clutching the notebook. For a moment, he considered telling her it was nothing. But, an inner voice seemed to give him a nudge, and he felt a spark of confidence within himself.

"Well," he began, holding up the tarnished notebook, "When I was clearing out some of my old stuff I found this notebook of mine. It has a letter I wrote back before I was brave enough to even talk to you. Before I got to really know you."

Her eyes seemed to sparkle and he repressed a blush.

"Would it be alright if you read it to me?"

Confidence or not, he wasn't quite ready for her to hear his youthfully naive assumptions about her. "Um, maybe I'll just let you read it yourself later."

"Oh no!"

He was taken aback by her response. Did he do something wrong?

"I couldn't read it myself. I'm…" She went utterly crimson. "I'm kind of allergic to love letters."

He tried (and failed) to repress a tiny snort of laughter. To his relief, Ami began giggling along with him.

"C'mon, let's get up to the roof before we miss 'Dark Mercury'."

Still giggling slightly, Ami shook her head in mild exacerbation. "I really wish Mr. Amanogawa had named that comet something else."

Having retrieved his jacket he placed a hand on her shoulder and gently ushered her out the door. "It doesn't really matter. Not with all you've accomplished at such a young age. Right, Doctor Mizuno?"

Ami smiled. "I suppose you're right. Thank you Ryo."

With that, the two of them departed for the roof and spent the night gazing at the midnight blue sky above.
