Chapter 28 A new Spiritual Age
Korra smiled as they were in the spirit world for the first time.
"Huh. So this is why Hitomi always visited here. It's beautiful." Sean said touching a flower before it turned into a spirt making him smile lightly.
"The spirits are so much more beautiful in their own world than they are at home." Jinora said following it.
"Hey." Sean said following her.
"Hold on." Korra said as they chased her.
Only for Korra to step into a hole.
"Hey watch where you're goin', you giant clod." A spirit annoyed.
"Whoops sorry." Korra said.
"This is a residential area in case you hadn't noticed. Who do you think you are stomping through here like that?"
"I'm the Avatar." Korra said crossing her arms grinning before another came out.
"The Avatar." He sniffed her which made her uncomfortable. "Not impressed."
'Oh perfect. Critics.' Godzilla thought annoyed.
"We're trying to find the spirit portals? I opened one..." Korra tried to say before another came out the ground.
"I heard Unalaq did that."
"No he tricked me into opening it with lies." Korra said as another came out.
"Well, if you opened it, how come don't know where it is, huh?"
"That was at the South pole in our world." Korra said getting annoyed before more showed up.
"I don't trust her!"
"Get out of our world!"
"We don't need you."
"You don't belong here!"
"ENOUGH!" Godzilla roared making them shut up.
"Uh hey big guy. Long time no see." One of the spirts said nervously.
"You insects still get on my nerves. Now where is the bloody spirit portal? I need to seal it before Vaatu is set free UNDERSTAND!" Godzilla roared making them yelp.
"Yes, sir." They said quickly.
"Now where is it?" Godzilla asked.
"Well, you're not far but maybe you should find a flying spirit to get there faster."
"Hmm?" Godzilla asked.
"He means there is a nest not far from here that can take you there faster in the air rather than on foot." Another explained.
"Ah. Good. Now be gone." Godzilla said making them rush off. "Argh." Godzilla said.
"I thought you and spirits got along fine." Korra said.
"We do but some get on my nerves like those moles. Mothra is more understanding of them than I am but I still make sure they're treated fairly in the physical world." Godzilla said.
Thats when they heard an evil laughter making him snarl.
"I have waited a long time to face you again old friend." Vaatu's voice said around them.
"Show yourself Vaatu? Another one of your pathetic tricks?" Godzilla questioned.
"As usual your greatly mistaken. I warned you one day everything you built would fall apart. And it has. And because of your host no less. Why you're so forgiving of those like him is amusing. But no matter. Soon I will have my revenge against you for all the times you and the other Titans defeated me every 10,000 years. And now I will be the one standing in triumph." Vaatu said.
"You couldn't defeat me on my worst day. Your nothing but a pathetic insect. Like the Kaiju. They only weakened us because of sheer numbers. You only have Unalaq and his forces and they're small compared to us." Godzilla said.
"Oh I'm not too worried about that. As for you and your little group...I think some separation is in order." Vaatu said as the place started glowing brightly.
"FUCK!" Sean yelled.
When the light vanished Korra found herself alone in a dark forest.
"Sean? Jinora?" Korra called out before she found herself in front of dark spirts making her gasp as one tried to grab her making her yell as she ran off.
"Sean!" Korra yelled as she looked around before crying was heard revealing Korra reverted back to her four year old self. "Sean." Korra cried as she fell against a tree.
Sean however was not that far from her.
"Korra!" Sean called out before he came face to face with Hiroshi. "Oh you again." Sean said annoyed.
"YOU RUINED THE WORLD! YOU MADE BENDERS AND..." Hiroshi tried to say before Sean punched him.
"Shut up." Sean said walking on ahead to find Korra.
'I'm surprised you didn't lash out for what happened last year.' Godzilla said.
"Illusion or not he ain't worth my fucking time. I need to find Korra and Jinora." Sean said looking for his wife. "My question is how did Vaatu do that? He's in the damn tree." Sean said.
'Remember his power is ten times greater than it ever has been in the past. Granting him new powers that we've never seen. This is only one of them.' Godzilla said.
"Yeah I guess thats true." Sean said.
Jinora was outside the dark forest away from its evils.
"Guys! Where are you?" Jinora called out but nothing was said. "Hello? I'm lost." Jinora said before hearing a creature making sounds making her look seeing one of the spirits she met before the three arrived. "Furry-Foot." Jinora said rushing to him seeing he was even bigger. "Wow you're even bigger here." Jinora said. "I don't suppose you know where Sean and Korra are, do you?" Jinora asked "We were supposed to go find the spirit portals but I don't know how to find anything down here." Jinora said before he picked her up and carried her somewhere.
Thats when they came to some large palace
"Wait...I know this place. Grandpa Aang came here. It's wan Shi Tong's spirit library." Jinora realized.
Meanwhile
Korra continued to cry as she laid next to a tree before hearing a hawk screech making her widen her eyes before swatting something away.
"GET AWAY!" Korra cried out before she opened her eyes seeing it was a small harmless spirit who she now injured before approaching it. "I'm sorry. You really scared me." Korra apologized before they heard giggling as someone approached them.
"You remind me of Sarah when she was a baby. She won't say anything out of pride but she was always intimidated."
Korra looked seeing someone walking to her.
"I know you." Korra said making her giggle.
"Obviously. You did marry my fiancé and name your daughter after me."
"Hitomi." Korra said seeing the first woman Sean ever loved smiling at her.
"Hello Korra." Hitomi said picking her up and carried her away.
"How are you even here?" Korra asked making her giggle.
"Before I fell to my death 30,000 years ago I managed to connect my spirit here when my physical body fell to death. I may have been a scientist but I was very connected to the spirit world. All of my family was back in the day. So for the last 30,000 years I've been here." Hitomi said leading her out of the forest.
"Wow." Korra said seeing everything was peaceful and not scary out here.
"Oh Iroh." Hitomi said making Korra look seeing the Legendary Dragon of the West.
"Iroh?" Korra asked.
"Ah, Korra, You've come just in time for a tea party." Iroh said as they sat down. "Help yourself to some spirit cakes. They won't make you gain any weight. Of course, you won't lose any, either." Iroh said patting his large stomach. (Jesus Christ! Every time I see this)
"This part of the spirit world isn't so scary." Korra said.
"The dark forest is only recent. Because of Unalaq." Hitomi said.
"It's my fault he's here." Korra said depressed.
"Hardly. Unalaq has been planing this for years. He's been consumed by darkness. He's proof mankind cannot lead itself when events like this are always a constant." Hitomi said before grabbing a tea pot but Korra recognized it.
"Wait thats mine!" Korra said making Iroh chuckle.
"That's right. It was yours long, long ago. When you were Avatar Wan, you used it to carry the light spirit Raava around until the two of you became one. It's my favorite thing I've found here. You know, when you make tea in it, you can still taste a little light in every drop." Iroh said pouring her some tea as she drank it and smiled.
Meanwhile
Sean sighed as he sat down in a mediative stance to calm his mind.
"I'll never understand why Hitomi was so attached to this place. It's hard to navigate." Sean said.
"Unless you know what you're looking for."
"Hmm?" Sean said opening his eyes seeing someone he hadn't seen in hundreds of years. "Yanchen?" Sean asked as she smiled at him.
"Hello Sean." Yangchen said as he stood up as she held his face. "I've missed you." Yangchen said.
"I've missed you too. How are you here?" Sean asked making her giggle.
"I think your forgetting the Avatar is part spirit. So our spirits are also here." Yangchen said as Kyoshi appeared.
"Kyoshi." Sean said as she smiled at him.
"It's been a long time my love." Kyoshi said.
Meanwhile
Jinora and her spirit friend flew into the library Wan Shi Tong's library before they landed.
"Wow. I could just stay in here forever, reading." Jinora said.
Thats when Wong Shi Tong arrived and landed in front of her.
"The last human who said that is still here." Tong said looking at the dead corpse of a man who clearly died decades ago. (Every time I see this I swear. This guy was an idiot.)
"Professor Zei." Jinora said.
"I see that you have some knowledge of the past, so you should know that humans are no longer allowed in my library." Tong said.
"Not even someone who's friends with the Titans?" Jinora asked making him raise an eyebrow.
"Hmm? How do you know about the Titans?" Tong asked.
"I know Godzilla and his host." Jinora said.
"Godzilla I am on friendly terms with but his host on the other hand..." Tong tried to say.
"Look him bringing the Kaiju here was an accident and learned from his mistakes." Jinora said.
"Perhaps. I'll admit his rise to fame in his field was impressive but he brought the Golden years to a halt because of his actions." Tong said.
"But their coming back now. Titan City is back again and the others will follow soon." Jinora said.
"Using the Matrix no doubt. Very well, you may look around." Tong said.
Meanwhile
"They say that the game of Pai Sho was invented by spirits, Although some of them don't seem to grasp it very well." Iroh said playing with one who looked like a flower.
"Just hold on. I'm thinking."
"You always say that." Hitomi said making Korra giggle. "Honestly Sean took less than a second to make the next move in more complicated games than this." Hitomi said making her laugh.
"He misses you." Korra said making her smile.
"I know. I know he was haunted by what happened all those years ago. But I never once blamed him for what happened. He may have been arrogant in his abilities but he cared about people from our time...Unlike Mark who only cared about himself making weapons and flawed ones at that." Hitomi said annoyed.
"He's still alive you know." Korra said.
"I know. It's not surprising to be honest. He talks big but he's a coward who murdered his own parents." Hitomi said. (He admitted that remember)
"You knew?" Korra asked.
"I noticed he was trying to get sympathy after it happened and suspected he was behind it but had no proof. Sean probably knew but didn't want to think someone could be so cruel." Hitomi said.
"He really blamed himself for what happened." Korra said making her nod.
"Yes. Korra, when people go through a loss like his and they played a part in it they change. Sometimes for the better or worse. In his case he changed into someone wise and caring. He tried to move on a couple times with Yangchen and Kyoshi. But his past made him push them away when they noticed his sadness. But you actually managed to make him open up." Hitomi said making her smile.
"Sometimes it takes one person to change another when they have gone a traumatic experience. For me it was changing my nephew into who you see now." Iroh said.
"Korra, as much I wish I could have had what you two now have...I think in truth you two were meant to be together for a reason. You helped him get past all of his mistakes. Helped him open up to become who he is now. Yangchen and Kyoshi never came close to that. And yet you managed to do that because you loved him for everything he did for you." Hitomi said making her nod as she turned to her present age.
"If you had a chance to go back and fix his mistake so you could be with him...Would you?" Korra asked.
"No. Cause like I said. I think you two were truly meant to be together. It's no accident you becoming the Avatar so he could train you and later have what you do now. Life and love work in many strange and wonderful ways." Hitomi said making her smile.
"I need to find him." Korra said.
"I think you'll find him up there." Hitomi said pointing at the mountain as she grabbed the spirit she injured earlier. "And I think this little guy will help you on the way." Hitomi said.
Meanwhile
Sean sat next to Yangchen and Kyoshi.
"I am really sorry things didn't work out the way they did. I just..." Sean tried to say.
"We know. We saw everything through Korra. You were the one who brought the Kaiju. But why did you never tell us?" Kyoshi asked making him sigh.
"You weren't really afraid we would judge you were you?" Yangchen asked.
"Give me a reason not to think that. My own sister hated me for 30,000 years because of an honest accident. No matter how much I tried to explain what happened she wouldn't listen. And then she used the Matrix to make a Mecha Version of Godzilla. Though that last part I didn't know till last year." Sean said.
"You were afraid we would judge you because if your own sister did the odds were we might do the same." Kyoshi said.
"You can't exactly blame me for being cautious." Sean said.
"Sean, you taught us everything we know. We loved who you are now. Not who you were in the past. We could never hate you for something that you never intended." Yangchen.
"Huh?" Sean said.
"We loved you for everything you did for us. Nothing could ever change that. No matter what happened in the past." Kyoshi said as she kissed him making him smile.
"Ah. Even with all that wisdom I'm still an idiot." Sean said making them giggle.
"No one is perfect. You said so yourself." Yangchen said as she kissed him.
"We'll always love you for everything. But right now you need to find Korra. She needs you." Kyoshi said.
"Yes." Sean said about to leave. "I'll always love you two no matter what." Sean said before running off as they vanished.
Meanwhile
Jinora was looking fro a map to the spirit portals.
"Ugh! It's not here either." Jinora said frustrated.
Thats when one of the spirit dogs grabbed one book and brought it to her.
"Thank you." Jinora said opening it and began to read it. "The Tree of time. Thats where Avatar Wan imprisoned Vaatu. The Elders believed as long as the portals are closed during the harmonic convergence, Vaatu will remain imprisoned and the battle between good and evil will not be fought again until the Titans all awakened. But if both portals are opened, Spirit energy is amplified greatly. During the harmonic convergence, this energy will be great enough to allow Vaatu to break free from his bonds, and the material world will again risk being consumed by darkness if the Titans have not fully recovered." Jinora read. "We have to warn Sean and Korra." Jinora said.
"Leaving so soon?" Unalaq said shocking her. "When Wan Shi Tong told me he had a visitor, I had to see it with my own eyes. I can't believe Tenzin sent his daughter here instead of coming himself. What kind of a father is he?" Unalaq mocked.
"Better than you. Wan Shi Tong, how can you be helping him?" Jinora asked.
"Unalaq has proven to be a true friend to the spirits, unlike the Avatar and Godzilla's host." Tong said.
"Why would you wanna help Vaatu escape? He'll destroy everything." Jinora said.
"Are you so sure? Whats the old saying. To make room for the new world you have to destroy the old one? Why don't you come with me and get a hands on experience." Unalaq said as her spirit friend turned dark making her nervous.
Meanwhile
Korra made her way up the mountain hoping to find Sean and Jinora.
Thats when she lost her footing making her yell before a familiar tail caught her.
"Need a hand?" Godzilla asked making her smile as he put her on his back.
"By the way...Hitomi says hi." Korra said making Sean freeze.
"She's here?" Sean asked.
"Yeah. If you want we could..." Korra tried to say.
"We don't have time. The sooner we close the portal the better." Sean said as they climbed up.
When they reached the top they found a nest of other spirits before Korra put the injured one in before they began to merge into one large flying spirit making them smile.
"Never ceases to amaze." Godzilla said as they got on before flying off.
Soon they arrived at the spirit portal before they got off.
"At long last." Vaatu said as they appeared before him still trapped in the tree. "I have waited so many years to finally finish you off. And now...I'm going to wipe you and the rest of titans off the face of the Earth for all those humiliating defeats you gave me." Vaatu said.
"Save your breath. Even with all that power you're still an insect to me. Now if you'll excuse us." Godzilla said as they went to the portal.
"I would rethink that if you wanna save your friend." Vaatu said.
"Hmm?" Godzilla said before seeing Unalaq with Jinora in a dark water bending trap.
"You worthless mother..." Sean tried to say.
"You claim Sean's a monster for what happened in the past and yet you're trying to destroy the world willingly." Korra said.
"Heres the difference between him and me. I'm destroying the world to make way for a new and better world where everyone is like me. Like it or not. Now open the portal or she dies." Unalaq said making her growl before holding her head down.
"Ok." Korra said in defeat.
"Your gonna suffer a fate worse than death." Sean said.
Korra and Sean walked to the portal before opening it up.
"Let her go." Sean said.
"Oh I don't think..." Unalaq tried to say.
"Let them go." Vaatu said shocking them. "I told you if anyone is going to kill him it will be me. And I want them to have a view of it." Vaatu said making him growl before letting Jinora go.
"We'll be coming for you." Sean said as they vanished.
Sean, Korra and Jinora gasped as they appeared in the real world.
"What happened?" Tenzin asked as Korra got the twins who laughed making her smile.
"We failed. Unalaq was there waiting for us and forces us to open the other portal or lose Jinora." Sean said.
"We gotta head back to Republic City and get Iroh ready." Korra said.
"Right.
Meanwhile
"Now that the other portal is open the Titans will come here to stop us. I don't think my men can defeat them." Unalaq said.
"Oh I wouldn't worry about that. I have something that will buy us more than enough time." Vaatu said as the place started glowing before giant hands started coming out of the ground or claws and blades.
"What...Are these?" Unalaq asked.
"I give to you...The old Titans who stood against Godzilla and those who protected mankind. What better way to keep them busy than fighting old enemies." Vaatu said laughing as various roars and growls were heard. "Of course thill will drain my power by half. But with all the chaos this will create I'll gain it back and more." Vaatu laughed.
