Kazuichi Hino is accosted by a worried mother when he gets some unexpected help from a pair of twin girls. Manga canon. Written for the 30th Anniversary of Phobos and Deimos

A/N: This story is set during Chapter 3 of the Sailor Moon manga.

'Hime' (to my understanding) means Princess in Japanese. I am leaving that untranslated because I am writing in English and don't want anybody to think I am referring to English or European princesses.

A Torii is the name for the kind of archway you see at the top of the Hikawa shrine steps.

Behind his bushy moustache, the Kazuichi's mouth formed into a thin line.

"Please you have to know something about my Mii-chan!"

The woman was in her thirties, with short blonde hair. She might have been pretty if not for the tears staining her anguished face. More to buy himself some time, the Kazuichi ran a hand through his grey hair.

"She was last seen at your shrine, then she got on that six o'clock bus from here and disappeared. I told your granddaughter just the other day!"

"I'm sorry," he began, a little cautiously, "Rei is at school right now. I don-"

The woman actually grabbed the front of his robes.

"Please! How would you feel if it was your granddaughter missing!?"

"Hey! Hands off!"

"Yeah, leave that old geezer alone!"

Two T.A. Academy girls had appeared, seemingly out of thin air. Their hair was worn in a variation of a traditional hime style, with long raven black locks falling from tight buns on either side of their heads. They were identical, sans the chokers around their necks, one red and the other purple. The girls muscled their way between the woman and the elderly man, physically separating the two.

"I understand you are upset, but those disappearances have nothing to do with this place," the girl with the red choker said.

"Or anyone who lives here. All you're doing is harassing people. Go home now," admonished the other girl.

Scowling through her tears, the woman whirled around and practically flung herself across the Hikawa Shrine grounds, through the Torii and down the stairs.

"Thank you, young ladies," said Kazuichi, slightly out of breath. Recovering, he shot them a friendly smile. "You two wouldn't like to work at my shrine would you? I could use the protection until those missing kids show back up."

The pair shook their heads and gave knowing smiles.

"Sorry old timer, we've already got a job," apologised 'purple'.

"Oh, well," he shrugged. "Worth a shot, right?" He shot them a wink.

"Don't worry, we'll still be around if anyone else gives you trouble," 'red' assured.

The pair began to depart, making their way towards the Torii.

"Must be some job, taking you youngsters out of school and giving you time to hang around here all day."

The twins halted for a moment and shot each other bright smiles.

"Well, it's a long-term commitment alright."

"But we wouldn't dream of doing anything else."

A gust of wind blew across the shrine grounds, temporarily blinding the Kauichi. Though it took him but a second or two to clear his vision, by the time he had the young girls were gone.

In fact, the only souls to be seen in the Hikawa shrine were himself, and the two crows circling above him.

A/N: Thank you to Tuxedo Rick for suggesting 'Kazuichi' as the name for Rei's grandfather. Unless something happens to change my mind, I intend to use that as his real name in other fics from now on.

So This story is a bit of a 'mistake'. Originally, I was going to write a story about Phobos and Deimos as Rei's gurandians, even being selected for the job back on planet Koronis. However, I changed my mind because I felt bad about giving them a way bigger story vs. poor Luna and Artemis who are WAY more important but only got a scene/ficlet respectively.

So then I came up with the above story. Except, when I wrote it I incorrectly believed that Rei's Grandpa first appeared in Sailor Moon Chapter 3, as did Phobos and Deimos. So I thought I could kill 2 birds with one stone (pun fully intended) by doing a story about Grandpa and Phobos+Deimos. Then I realised that actually Grandpa appears for the first time in Chapter 5.

Whoops.

Oh, well. It still works well enough as a Phobos and Deimos story, lol.
