It'd been an entire lunar cycle since the last time.

Thirty days since the first time, to be precise.

They stood in a secluded area of the palace grounds, slightly out of breath.

She knew they were pressing their luck. That they risked being spotted at any moment. Then again, coming here at all had been a risk. Doing what they did, and for as long as they did, had been a risk.

So what was a few moments more?

A few more moments to hear him say the words.

"Happy Anniversary Serenity."

Had it really been over seven months?

Could thirty weeks truly have elapsed?

In that time they'd been through so much together. Too much. A lot of it horrible, truth be told.

But as their gentle swaying grew ever slower, bringing things further to a close, it felt for her just like the first time.

That struck her as funny considering the circumstances. They were on a rooftop. The remains of the monster were feet away from them. And her fuku was a far cry from her attire of that night. Then again, his current attire certainly wasn't. Perhaps that was why everything else didn't matter to her. Perhaps that was why it felt like the first time all over again.

Her head on her chest, she could feel his heart beat in time to the words.

"Happy Anniversary Sailor Moon."

Two and a half years since the first time?

The past thirty months felt to her like thirty lifetimes.

All their battles were done. All their enemies undone. He was back. He wasn't going away again. She would make sure she'd never lose him again. She'd lost him too many times.

Maybe that was why she held on so tightly as their movements slowed down, transitioning into simply swaying together.

Maybe he felt the same. She could feel his grip on her hips tighten.

Maybe that was why there was a slightly desperate hint in his voice when he said the words.

"Happy Anniversary Usako."

Three decades.

Thirty years since they'd taken their new (or rather old) names and marked the occasion in their own private way.

There was to be a public celebration of course. A grand ball, parties in the glittering crystalline streets.

But here and now, this was just for them.

And she was privately glad for it. Not just because of their intimacy, but because she was worried that her subjects seeing her less than graceful footwork wasn't the best image for the Royal Family.

Although, she was somehow much more graceful whenever he took the lead as he was now.

Her hand in his, his hand supporting her back, she allowed herself to fall back.

She couldn't see his face, but when he said the words she knew the look that'd be in his eyes.

"Happy Anniversary, my Queen."

Darkness.

Nothingness.

All around her.

And yet it paled to how she felt on the inside.

She'd won.

The price had been heavy, but she'd won.

The universe would live to see another tomorrow. A new tomorrow. A rebirth.

But for her?

Could there really be another day? Could she withstand this loneliness?

Even if she could…was there really a point now she'd won?

She'd fulfilled her purpose, but what did she have left to live f…

There was someone behind her.

She didn't get up from her kneeling position. She didn't dare. But she did look over her shoulder.

Through the silver of her hair she saw…

She hadn't cried in millennia. She believed she'd grown out of it. But she cried now.

He extended his hand out to her as he'd done…how long ago had it been now?

That was right.

Thirty Millennia.

She took his hand and stood up, still not quite believing this was real. Not until he said the words.

"Happy Anniversary Sailor Cosmos. May I have this dance?"

A/N: I wrote this AGES ago and held onto it until now. Initially I considered the story revolving around their first kiss but given the 'circumstances' of that first kiss I instead opted for their first dance, which nevertheless happened in the same chapter/episode anyway.

And once I remembered that I bit the bullet and threw this fic out in celebration of Chapter 4 of the manga and its corresponding anime episode rather than delivering it for UsaMamo week as I originally intended.

Also just to let you know I am involved in a discord called 'Moonlight Legends' which is dedicated to sharing all sorts of Sailor Moon fanworks, including other fanfics. If you would like to join so you can share your own work, get help with your current projects or just connect to other fan creators shoot me a PM and I'll send you an invite. All are welcome!
