Chapter 49 Beyond the Wilds
Its been a week since Kuvira was revealed to be up to her old tricks again most likely picking up where Mark left off.
Now the Titans were on high alert ready for anything she could be up to.
And the Earth Defense forces were preparing for any events possible not knowing what Kuvira had from either her own forces that survived or if Mark left something behind.
Right now everyone was at the meeting center to talk about this.
"We need to find Kuvira and wipe her out before she strikes again. We've already lost one village." Reznov said.
"I don't disagree on that. We've already had all remaining villages evacuated into the nearby cities. And had any mines secured tightly." Sean said.
"Theres nothing more we can do but prepare our forces for any and all possible events." Godzilla said.
"What is she even up to this time around? She's not a threat like Mark was." Asami said.
"Mark may have left some plans he had behind incase things went sideways. He was insane but did plan ahead. That was one of his useful skills when he did shit like this." Sean said reluctantly.
"What is she gonna do anyway? It's not like she's got some weapon of mass destruction on her hands." Turok said.
"Well..." Bolin tried to say.
"Spit it out." Destroyah said snarling at him.
"Well...Before Dagon showed up to stop her. She had Varrick working with spirit vines to make a super weapon." Bolin said.
"Super Weapon? With Spirit vines?" Korra asked.
"You said she took you away from Metal City because you tried to leave. You never said anything about some super weapon.." Sean said.
"Look I swear I wasn't trying to make some super weapon like she wanted in the beginning. Do you remember when you said you went to the Kaiju universe to find a new and more powerful fuel source?" Varrick asked.
"Yes...What about it?" Sean asked.
"Well...I thought the same thing but instead of doing what you did I decided to use spirit vines since the energy level on them was off the charts. But Kuvira wanted me to turn it into a weapon to use against the Kaiju incase they came back." Varrick said.
"Uh huh. Sure." Sean said not believing that for even a second.
"But I tried to say no but she threatened to kill me if I didn't see it through." Varrick said.
"Since when in the hell do you say no to making something you can use for profit?" Dawn asked glaring at him.
"Uh because you guys always use that against me. I got sick and tired of it so I said no." Varrick said.
"Well...At least this time you had a reason thats understandable." Sean said making Godzilla scoff.
'Hardly. He's still scum.' Godzilla said.
"Ok lets say she's building this thing. How's she gonna make it? And more importantly how is she gonna get it here?" Sarah asked.
"That I'm unsure but..." Sean tried to say before Ikki and Opal rushed in.
"What is it?" Tenzin asked.
"It's my family. They're gone!" Opal yelled shocking them.
"What do you mean gone?" David asked.
"I mean they're gone. Security showed up at the Estate and found the place a wreck. It has to be Kuvira." Opal said.
"How the hell did they get in without being seen? Let alone knock them all out?" Korra asked as Sean frowned.
"You don't think they..." Reznov tried to say.
"It's the only thing I can think of." Sean said.
"What is it?" Lin asked.
"Mark was working on a new teleportation system. Instant travel. But it was shut down because of how the damn thing was powered. Using Nuclear radiation. Humans can only handle so much of that stuff before it slowly kills them. Granted it can be cured easily but they won't know they have it till they start showing signs. Intense pain and other symptoms. Thats why they shut down that project." Sean said.
"Like everything else he made." Korra said.
"Almost everything he made always came with high risk." Sean said annoyed.
"So odds are Kuvira and Baatar have been using it which is how we can't track them." Lin said.
"But why go after my family?" Opal asked worried.
"Isn't it Obvious? Revenge. She blames Suyin for losing her empire since the final battle her empire had was at Metal City and she refused to hand it over to her like she demanded and Kong disowned her as a student and forced her out. That was what led her to hate Titans so much since she was counting on Kong supporting her but that didn't happen since she went too far." Sean said.
"She's not gonna kill her...Not right away. She wants her to witness her victory and make her suffer. That gives us time." Godzilla said making Opal sigh as Bolin held her.
"We know she's trying to build a super weapon. Was there anything else at the Estate missing?" Jinora asked.
"Some Meteorites were missing. But they weren't really valuable." Opal said.
"Nothing there really was since Suyin had the more important types sent to Titan City to be used in the science division or locked up to be safe." Sean said.
"What kind?" Korra asked.
"Mostly those that were indestructible. Others had high levels of Radiation to be later drained." Sean said.
After that was over Korra and Sean were outside as the others left.
"You ok?" Korra asked.
"Course. I know Kuvira won't pull anything to Suyin's family since she wants her to suffer by seeing her victory. So theres no need for alarm." Sean said.
"But you're still worried about something." Korra said.
"She's gathering materials for a reason. She's building something." Sean said.
"We'll find out soon enough." Korra said.
Later
Korra smiled as she was feeding Kyoshi a bottle while Yangchen was asleep in a carriage as the oldest played with Naga. (By I'm surprised no one said anything about the names of the new twins)
Junior laughed as she jumped on Naga who tried to throw him off before Hitomi did the same.
"Be gentle Naga." Korra said as she picked Katara up in her mouth making her burst out laughing making Korra giggle.
"Remind you of anyone 20 years ago?" Sean asked walking to her.
This made her giggle.
"Yeah. Nice to know they can enjoy a normal life." Korra said as he sat down next to her.
"How you holding up?" Sean asked making her smile lightly as Kyoshi drank all of her bottle before yawning making her giggle as she put her in her carriage next to her sister.
"I'm ok. Just waiting and enjoying the peace and quiet while it lasts you know?" Korra asked making him nod.
"Yeah. I should have just killed her when I had the chance 2 years ago." Sean said.
"You figured without her army she wouldn't be a threat. No one could have ever seen this coming. And now we know Mark was clouding her judgment and view and made her into what she is." Korra said.
"That or she let all that power go to her head like Suyin thought would happen if she took up the queen position." Sean said.
Thats when they spotted Opal who was clearly depressed before they walked to her.
"You doing ok Opal?" Sean asked.
"No, My family is being held captive by that monster and no one but me seems to care." Opal said.
"Thats not true. We all want to find Suyin and you're family and bring them back. But we have to be careful about this. We have no idea what they are up to. Or if Mark has something to do with this." Sean said.
"We'll get them back soon. We just have to be patient. And besides like Sean said she's not gonna kill her since she wants her to suffer by seeing her victory to taunt her. We'll get them back when the time is right." Korra said.
"Yeah...I guess thats true." Opal said.
Thats when Jinora flew down to them.
"Guys, there you are! I just felt a weird surge of spiritual energy coming from the spirit wilds outside Titan City. Something is really wrong right now." Jinora said making them concerned.
After leaving the kids with Pema they arrived at the spirit wilds.
"Curious." Godzilla said sensing around the area.
"Are you sure you felt a disturbance? Maybe you just had some bad food for breakfast." Opal said.
"Opal I would expect Sokka or even Bolin to say that but you?" Sean asked in disbelief.
"Uh heh right I wasn't thinking when I said that." Opal said feeling dumb for saying that.
"I'm telling you. I felt it." Jinora said. "Maybe something happened to Ryu's tour group. They come outside to look around all the time." Jinora said.
"Ryu? That dumb kid who lived in his mother's basement?" Godzilla asked remembering him when they stopped on their way to Ba Sing Se before they met Kai.
"He's...Matured since you and Sean separated 5 years ago." Jinora said sheepishly making him glare.
"I believe the term is...Bullshit." Godzilla said. (Seriously why take this guy in?)
"Ok he's basically the same as before but he does take his responsibilities seriously." Jinora said making him scoff.
"Can't you feel anything around you?" Opal asked as Korra touched the vines. During the time when Sean and Godzilla were separated she learned to tap into the vines.
"I don't sense anything wrong. But I do sense something is at work here. Maybe we should tell the others just to be on the safe side." Korra said to Sean who nods.
"Like we always say better to be safe than sorry." Sean said as they left while Jinora remained.
Meanwhile
"I understand how serious the situation is revolving around Kuvira but I don't want the Fire Nation to be involved in another war. My nation has been a part or started too many pointless wars that have stained our history." Izumi said to the others.
"That may be so but the fact of the matter is Kuvira is up to something and odds are Mark might be involved in this. Some backup plan he had planned incase things went sideways on him as they usually do." David said.
"Maybe so but you said so yourself you have no idea where she is or what she's up to." Izumi said.
Thats when Sean and Korra walked in.
"We might have a problem." Sean said.
"Whats going on?" David asked.
"Something is messing with the spirit vines. We think maybe Kuvira is up to something. Maybe trying to restart that Super weapon project of her's again." Korra said.
"What weapon?" Izumi asked.
"Something strong enough to attack a Titan and wound him or her." Sean said making her frown.
"Well...In that case I'm going to commit my forces but only for defense." Izumi said.
"Thats good enough." David said.
After that everyone left.
"What do you think Kuvira is up to?" Korra asked her husband who sighed rubbing his hair.
"I have no idea." Sean said.
Thats when Jinora appeared before them in spirit form.
"Guys! The Vines! They're taking me! Help!" Jinora yelled before vanishing making them widen their eyes before rushing to the Spirit wilds.
When they arrived they saw a police drones keeping the vines from entering the city. Lin was there giving the orders.
"Lin we need to get in there. Jinora was taken into the wilds." Korra said.
"I don't think anyone should be going in there right now." Lin said before more vines attacked them.
"Not like we got much choice. Let's go!" Sean yelled as they rushed in.
"I don't understand why take Jinora and the others anyway?" Korra asked.
"That I also don't understand. Whatever Kuvira is doing is messing with the spirit vines and pissing them off. I can only assume perhaps she's messing with another area of Spirit vines." Sean said before the Vines moved before they moved forward.
"Uh Sean?" Korra said making him look seeing Jinora and the others who were missing in some kind of pods.
"What the hell?" Sean asked.
"Their spirits are trapped in the spirit world." Korra said before she used her spirit bending. "It's not working. Maybe if I meditate into the spirit world, I can free them." Korra said before sitting down and got into a meditative position.
However Korra found herself not in the spirit world at all but someplace she was all too familiar with.
"What am I doing back here?" Korra asked before hearing Godzilla roar making her look seeing Sean and Godzilla facing Zaheer before they were separated before Zaheer tried to kill Sean and threatened his kids.
"AHHH!" Korra yelled as she appeared back in her body.
"What happened?" Sean asked.
"I can't get into the spirit world. We need to go to the portal in either the north or South and free them." Korra said standing up.
"Hold on." Godzilla said stopping her. "Whats going on? You should have no problem getting into the spirit world from here." Godzilla said making her look away.
"Korra...Have you been into the spirit world lately?" Sean asked making her sigh.
"No...I haven't been there since...You two were separated." Korra said.
"Why didn't you say anything?" Sean asked.
"You were recovering and we were spending time with the Twins and Katara...I didn't want to bring it up." Korra said.
"But something is blocking you. Korra why aren't you really going into the spirit world?" Sean asked making her sigh.
"I tried shortly after Zaheer was imprisoned. I figured maybe if I went into the spirit world I would find him and find a way to have you two back together...But I keep living that moment of the second you two were separated and what Zaheer said he'd do to the twins over and over again...I couldn't take it anymore." Korra said as he held her making her let out a shuddering breath. "I almost lost you because of his dumb view...And he was gonna kill the twins because he wouldn't listen." Korra said.
"I know. But you need to find a way to move on and accept what happened. And I know where to go for that." Sean said.
Later
Arriving in the Swamp area the two landed before getting off Fawkes.
"What is this place?" Korra asked.
"The home of an old friend who knows how to help people with everything." Godzilla said as Korra walked forward before seeing they didn't move.
"Aren't you two coming?" Korra asked.
"No. This is for you and you alone. Just trust your instincts." Sean said making her nod before she went in.
Walking further into the swamp she came to a large tree.
"What is this place?" Korra asked before suddenly swamp vines started attacking her making her dodge with ease before they took on a large form with a mask.
"You are unworthy. You are doomed to fail both yourself and others. As you have in the past." A voice said making her growl before quickly trying to slice it apart but it easily dodged before slamming her into a wall making her grunt.
"Who are you?" Korra asked.
"You failed the one you loved. The one who made you who you are 5 years ago."
Korra seethed before she attacked again but yelled when the vines slammed her down hard.
"You don't know what you're talking about!" Korra yelled as it attacked her again.
"I know you more than you know yourself. You failed that day when he truly needed you."
Korra growled as she tried to firebend it but nothing worked before it slammed her down again making her groan.
"I did everything I could." Korra said before it tried to attack her again but she flew off before making wind blades slashing the vines. "I did the very best I could that day!" Korra yelled as it started to break apart. "THERE WASN'T ANYTHING ELSE I COULD HAVE DONE!" Korra roared before slicing it apart before something was revealed.
She widened her eyes seeing herself.
"If there was nothing more you could have done why do you punish yourself by holding onto the past?"
"I...I just wanted to do more." Korra said as the other her vanished before something came out of the ground revealing itself to be a Titan that had parts of the swamp on it. "Who are you?" Korra asked.
"I am known as the Swamp Monster. An old friend of those with troubled pasts and help those who need to move forward to fully reach their potential." Swamp Monster Said. (From Godzilla the Series)
"I just...I thought if maybe I did more I..." Korra tried to say.
"Like you said. There was nothing more you could have done. No one blames you for what happened. You did everything you could. And in the end...Thats all we can do." Swamp Monster said.
"I know...I just..." Korra tried to say.
"You thought if by clinging to the past it would make you stronger to not suffer something like that again. But clinging to our past always holds us back. Accept what happened and you will become even stronger than you are now." Swamp Monster said making her nod before smiling.
"Thank you." Korra said.
"Now that thats over I will release the others from the spirit world." Swamp Monster said shocking her.
"Wait you did that?" Korra asked.
"But of course. I knew you needed to move forward in life and this would bring you to me. Godzilla isn't the only one with great wisdom you know." Swamp Monster said making her smile before he vanished as the others were set free.
Sean waited patiently outside before she showed up.
"You knew didn't you?" Korra asked making him grin.
"Duh. I know how that guy operated more than anyone. He's always helping folks with problems like yours." Sean said making her smile as she kissed him. "I never blamed you for what happened 5 years ago. I never could." Sean said making her smile more.
"I know." Korra said holding him close. "I love you." Korra said.
"I love you too." Sean said.
Authors Note: Now that was unique and interesting. Instead of traveling to the Spirit world to free them The Swamp Monster did that to bring her to him to fully move forward with what happened 5 years ago.
