From the open window, Serenity looked down at the garden. Her calm cerulean eyes saw the trees, the grass, and even the flower petals swaying soothingly amidst wind that felt pleasantly refreshing upon her skin.

It was undeniably beautiful. And yet…unsatisfying.

Casting her gaze skywards, Serenity beheld the blue sapphire hanging amidst the inky void.

She'd once heard someone say that 'ignorance is bliss'. But Serenity felt anything but blissful when she stared at the Earth. But then, she wasn't entirely ignorant of it either.

It had been her mother who had first shown her what was down there.

It had been who'd ordered her to give up her 'childish fantasies' of being allowed to go to the planet.

And it was her guardians who had made it clear that it'd take a proverbial miracle for her to sneak down there to see him.

As their words echoed in her mind, Serenity clasped her hands together and got on her knees. Soon enough, the chamber atop the tower echoed with the princess' prayer.

Gazing out the tower window, Serenity lost herself in the trees and flowers dancing amidst wind that was caressing her skin. Or perhaps they weren't. Perhaps there was nothing particularly wonderful about either. Perhaps they merely seemed magical to her because she was with…him.

Or, would be soon enough. Her heart raced at the sound of steps growing louder with every second. A tiny voice at the back of her head (that sounded annoyingly like Luna) tried to put her on her guard, to brace herself in case this was a platoon of Terran or Lunarian guards. But she didn't bother listening to it.

Instead, she leapt from her window seat and bounced across the room, embracing the tall, dark haired man who entered the room. She hugged him tight and nuzzled into his chest. Without another word she stood on her tip toes and pressed her lips to his. It was then that she felt something was…off.

His own arms were hardly holding her waist. His mouth had merely twitched in response to her touch. And his eyes that typically shone like sapphires, were cold and distant.

Lowering herself, Serenity took half a step back, eyes wide and worried as she beheld Endymion's gloomy expression.

"Wh-what's wrong?"

"I…I just came from a council meeting," Endymion began, not meeting her eyes, "Tensions are rising between our people."

"But…" Serenity's voice was quiet, almost mouse-like, "there have always been such tensions. "

Had she not been standing so close, Serenity might have missed the minute nod of her lover's head. "I know. But it just…" Endymion half-winced, as if in pain, "…it hammered home to me that this, that we…"

It was obvious he couldn't bring himself to finish, but Serenity's chest was too cold and too tight to be accommodating right now.

"'That we', what?"

"That we can't last." Now Endymion's voice was mouselike. "Even if they somehow worked things out, even if they'd let us be together, eventually…eventually you'll outlive me…" His fists clenched. "It'd take a miracle for us to-"

Endymion's words halted and his eyes widened at the soft touch of Serenity's finger upon his lips. For the first time since he arrived, he was looking straight at her.

"If that's the case, all we have to do is start believing in a miracle."

For a moment, Endymion stood silent, practically stunned. Then, his features softened and he began to chuckle. "Oh, is that all?"

Serenity nodded before embracing Endymion again, this time finding him far more receptive. "It's always worked for me before."

Serenity winced as the hot wind that carried burning embers from the royal gardens singed her skin.

Even atop the tower she could hardly see anything above the fire and black smoke of the battle below. But what she could see horrified her beyond words; as did the screaming.

How could it have come to this? How could this even be happening? How could both their worlds have fallen to darkness like this?

At the back of her mind, a nasty little voice whispered that she knew exactly why. That her beloved had been right all along. That miracles were a childish fantasy. And, even if they were real, none existed that could ever bring salvation from this Hell.

Serenity didn't listen to that voice.

She instead descended the tower.

She would find Endymion.

She would stop this madness.

And they would be together.

Wouldn't they?

Below her, the trees stood tall, embraced by the delicate motion of the wind. Much the same was true atop the tower of the crystalline palace.

Serenity stood tall, Endymion's arms gently embracing her. But it was not, could never truly be, the same as it had been so very long ago. It was even better than she could have dreamed of.

She rested her head on her King's shoulder. He rested his own atop hers. As one, they stared down as the pink-haired bundle in Serenity's arms that was more beautiful than the entire glittering city before them.

"She's perfect," said Endymion softly.

"More than perfect," corrected Serenity. She lifted her head and met blue sapphire eyes. Leaning in, four little words escaped her lips before they met her husband's.

"She is our miracle."

A/N: So ORIGINALLY I was going to specifically celebrate the 'Miracle Romance' with my UsaMamo Week fic 'A Miraculous Romance'. That was my plan even way back in like 2021. Buuuuuuuut, whilst that fic would be perfect for celebrating the anime version of the couple, it didn't do much for the manga versions. Plus, I had my heart set on it being a thing for UsaMamo Week. This in turn left me feeling awkward that the chapter where we actually LEARN about the Miracle Romance and meet Princess Serenity was going uncelebrated.

Worse, I realised that whilst I'd revisited Prince Endymion a number of times in my Mamoru anniversary stories (to me there is no distinction between the past, present and future versions of the characters, Mamoru is Endymion and Endymion is Mamoru) I had done next to nothing for Serenity. I'd celebrated Usagi, Sailor Moon and even Neo-Queen Serenity, but not Princess Serenity specifically.

Thus I resolved to write a fic for her specifically and also the Miracle Romance as a whole. My original plan was just 2 scenes, basically the second scene and last scene of this story. The major difference was that Serenity was the one needing reassurance. But in thinking about it she was the one in the anime and manga who had unshakable faith in the Miracle Romance and even made the miracles happen in a way. So I flipped the script and added the first and third scenes too.

It's definitely a simple fic, but I think it over all works and keys in on Serenity's personality, or at least an aspect of it that I hadn't already explored with Usagi herself.

BTW the stuff about them being atop towers is a reference to how, in the manga and anime, Usagi first becomes Serenity atop towers, the Tokyo Tower in the manga and the Starlight Tower in the anime.

Also, just to let you know I am involved in a discord called 'Moonlight Legends' which is dedicated to sharing all sorts of Sailor Moon fanworks, including other fanfics.
