Chapter 3
Ruby was in the office going through what needed to be handed over to Thomas for the night when he came in. "Ruby, have you heard from Snow or David?" He asked, his voice quiet in case Emma was in.
"No, and I don't want to. I found out what they did, and I never want to see them again." She looked at him. "Emma isn't here right now, she left on personal time." She bit her lip. "I honestly wish we had another person here so Emma could take more time off. She's going through so much."
He sat down. "What's going on, Ruby? Snow called Ella and tried to convince her that we needed to go back to the Enchanted Forest and that Emma and Regina are going to turn everyone against her and David."
Ruby snorted. "She's afraid of everyone knowing the truth." Ruby sighed. "I can trust you, right?"
He held up a hand. "You can, I swear it. You know I haven't liked how they've been treating Emma."
"I know but keep this to yourself for now." She took a deep breath. "Snow and David aren't Emma's real parents."
"What?"
"I know!" Ruby told him the story and Thomas shook his head, taking it all in.
"That explains why they've been like that with her, but…shit. It's not her fault! They took her!" He let out a breath. "They had us fooled and poor Emma has suffered the consequences. I'm glad for her that she found her real mothers though; she deserves that at least."
"She does. I can't wait until Maleficent is strong enough to see Emma. I mean, Emma is pretty happy with Ingrid, but she is so excited to actually meet her mother."
"Well, let's get as much done as we can so she doesn't have to spend much time here. I wonder what she's going to do about David and Snow?"
"Nothing for now. She's happy and is okay waiting to see what they do. I think she's waiting until she can finally meet Maleficent."
"That makes sense. I just…I hope Snow and David don't do anything more."
Emma spent the afternoon with Ingrid, both of them getting to know each other more. Ingrid couldn't get over how amazing her daughter was and Emma couldn't believe she was with someone who wanted and loved her. "I love you, Mom and I'm so glad to know the truth, but…but I can't wait to meet Ma. I really cannot wait to see her and hug her."
"She feels the same, little Dragon." Ingrid said with a smile. "She's getting stronger and stronger. It'll be any day now, Emma."
Not only was Maleficent growing stronger, but so was the relationship with Emma and Regina. Sure, neither of them pushed for much more than dinners, cuddling, even sleeping in each other's arms, but they were content with that. In fact, neither of them could sleep alone anymore. Emma also agreed with Regina and set up appointments to see Archie to stop her from harming herself. Because she was surrounded by positivity and love, she hadn't felt that urge to hurt herself for a few weeks now.
Cora was finally out of Regina's vault and staying at the mansion, though she still went there to talk to Mal until the dragon was strong enough. She loved being with her daughter, having her heart, and helping Emma with her magic. Emma had been excited to learn she had magic and that it was because her moms were True Love, not because of her incubator and her husband.
David paced and Snow sighed. "It's the only way, David. If we let that half breed go to her mother, it's over for us."
"She should have died! Fiona said she would die!"
"I thought she would!" Fiona said, appearing in the room. "They were both supposed to die." She handed them a cuff. "Put this on that brat and bring her to the library. Be there in an hour or I'm done helping you."
"Some help you've been." Snow sneered. "How do I know we can trust you now?"
"Who else are you going to trust right now?" Fiona growled. "Look, I want to get rid of them just as much as you do. They are abominations and we need to rid the world of them. An hour."
Emma had gotten home from the station a bit late and everyone in the house was asleep. She was about to go up the stairs when she saw a note on the side table where she put her keys. She opened the envelope that had her name on it and smiled.
My Dearest Emma,
I am finally strong enough to see you. I hope you're ready for your life to change for the better. Meet me in the woods behind the library but come alone. I want this moment to be between us only so please don't tell anyone. I can't wait to see you, my darling daughter.
All My love,
Your Mother Maleficent
Emma felt such hope inside her and she took a few deep breaths. She wanted to tell Regina, but her mother had said not to tell anyone. Never the less, she left the note on the table so if Regina came looking for her, she'd see it. She then put her boots back on and headed out to finally meet her mother.
"Mom? Maleficent? Are you here?" Emma called out, straining her eyes in the dark. She was starting to worry Maleficent had changed her mind about her. She sighed and sat on a tree stump. "I knew it was too good to be true." A snap of wood behind her had her stand and turn. "Mom?" She asked, hope dripping in her voice.
"Now!" David yelled and Snow came out, putting the cuff on Emma's wrist. David grabbed her then, her hands behind her back and cuffed her.
"Let me go!" Emma yelled before she felt tape over her mouth. She fought hard, kicking and twisting, but Snow blew powder in her face and she soon fell to the ground.
"Little shit got me between the legs." David grumbled, kicking the blond in the side.
Snow rolled her eyes. "Pick her up, we don't have much time."
David picked Emma up, throwing him over his shoulder as the two stuck to the shadows leading to the back of the library. However, once there, they saw Fiona outside. "Change of plans. This place smells too much like Mal, so she must still come here. I've made some changes to your loft." She used her magic and transported them there. Pointing to the paneling between the door and Snow's TV, she smirked. "Push there."
Snow did so and gasped when the wall first glowed at where her hand touched and then opened. "How…"
"Only you two and I can open it." Fiona said, gesturing. "Go on."
Snow walked down the steps, followed by David and smirked as she saw another door. "It's soundproof, isn't it?"
"Soundproof and magic proof, but I'm keeping that cuff on her just for a double precaution. Lay her here." She said, and David ungraciously plopped Emma down on the floor, making Fiona wince. "You really don't like her, do you?"
"She's a half breed and she's turning everyone against us." David said, giving Emma's side another kick.
Fiona sighed and took the handcuffs off, putting an iron cuff over the magic one and attached a chain to it. "She can get to the toilet, the sink, the shower, and the mattress, but not the door or the air vent."
"What's the plan, Fiona?" Snow asked. "I don't get the point in this. Now we have to take care of her."
"Just feed her once a day; she has access to water. The plan is simple, she has a bond already with Maleficent so she will feel Emma's emotions and her pain. She will have no idea or proof that we have her." She handed Snow a vial. "Take a drop of this before coming down here. You will look like Ingrid. Tell her how worthless she is, how much you hate her, how much you never wanted her. We have to break her so that even Maleficent won't be able to put her back together. Once she's broken, Mal will be also and we can kill them both. We tell the town you rid it of danger and they will look to you to rule them and not Regina. Hell, we can get rid of her too while we're at it. Once Emma and Maleficent are gone, Regina will be devastated and easier to get at."
"Why would she be devastated?" David asked.
"Because she and Emma are…close." Fiona said, still surprised at how stupid these two were. "Just trust me. Now, she'll sleep for a few hours, but I'll be here when she wakes the first time." She pointed to the mirror. "You can watch from your mirror on your nightstand but hide it when you're done." She didn't tell them that Mal would have access to this mirror as well. She wanted her sister to suffer.
Snow and David went back upstairs, closing the opening to Emma's prison. After two hours, Fiona was ready to get going on this. She had left out that in this room, she still had her magic as fairy magic was harder to contain. She used it to open the link to Maleficent's mirror, smirking in it before changing herself to look like her sister.
Maleficent, who had been sleeping at Ingrid's house, woke with a start as the mirror emitted a light. "Ingrid! I…I think Emma is in trouble." She said, moving the mirror closer. "Emma!" She called, seeing her sleeping daughter chained to the wall. She glared at the woman who now looked like her. "It's Fiona."
"Your sister?" Ingrid asked, waking up. "What does she want with Emma?"
Mal clenched her jaw, tears in her eyes. "To get at me through her." She reached out with her magic but huffed. "I can't find her! She blocked me from being able to find her…No!" She yelled at the mirror as Fiona slapped Emma.
"Wake up! Wake up you worthless little shit!"
Emma groaned and rubbed her cheek. "What…where am I? Who are you?"
Fiona as Mal, sneered down at Emma. "Are you so stupid you don't even know your own mother?"
Emma sat up, her arms around herself. "I…I'm not stupid." She tried hard to not let her heart break. This was not the same woman who talked to her before. "I don't believe you. You're not my mother. You said that when we first saw each other, I'd shift and I'm not, so I don't know who you are, but you're not her."
FaM (Fiona as Mal) smirked. "Look at your wrist, Princess. You have a cuff on that prevents magic and that includes dragon magic. Once I saw you more, watched you more, I realized you're nothing that I wanted. You're worthless, stupid, and a waste of time."
Emma shook her head and put her hands over her ears. "I don't believe you!"
FaM pounced, pulling Emma's hands from her ears. "You know I'm right! Regina may have taken your scars, but she couldn't take your shame. You wreak of it! You know you're not worthy of her or anyone else! She laughs at you, you know. 'Stupid Emma thinks I love her.' She says, laughing when we are together. She's with me every night, Emma, because she can't stand you."
"That's not true!" Emma said, though tears were streaming down her face. "She's with me every night and she loves me!"
FaM laughed. "She loves you? No, she loves keeping tabs on you, but she does not love you. Have you two fucked yet? Oh sorry, made love?" She smirked as the blonde looked crestfallen. "No, you haven't. But her and I do, every night. She makes sure you're asleep and comes to me…cums for me." She knelt down and lifted Emma's chin. "You're neither wanted nor needed, Emma. Neither loved nor cared for. Until you finally realize that you will stay here. You're not wanted out there in Storybrooke anymore. Not even Henry wants you around."
Emma's heart broke at that and she let out a sob. "Why are you doing this to me?"
FaM gave a pout. "You are pathetic!" She slapped Emma again, and pulled her hair so she was looking at her. "Snow and Charming were right about you. You are disgusting." She then pushed Emma away from her and looked at the mirror, winking before heading out.
Emma curled on her side, crying hard as her past caught up to her. All the foster parents telling her the same thing this woman…her mother…told her. She was trying so hard not to believe her, but the woman had to be telling her the truth. She sat up, her back against the wall and her arms around her legs. "Regina never wants to do more than cuddle." She said to herself, unaware her actual mother was still watching. "I haven't actually talked to my mo…Maleficent for a few days so maybe…maybe she did find out about my past and really does hate me. Maybe that was her." She said, her heart breaking even more. She dragged herself to the sink and ran cold water over her face before looking at herself. "They are all right. You are a pathetic excuse for a human. No one wants you, no one loves you, no one ever has or ever will." Tears once again filled her eyes. "No…no Ingrid loves you. Mom loves me; I know she does. She loves me."
A laugh was heard behind her and she turned to see her mother. "Mom? How did you know I was here?"
"I brought you here, stupid girl." SaI (Snow as Ingrid) stated. She sighed, disappointed. "I tried, Emma. I really did try to love you. I tried forgetting that disappointing young girl you were when I last saw you." She came over and stroked Emma's cheek before pinching her chin. "The only thing that changed was you became even more pathetic." She spat at her, smirking as she saw Emma breaking right in front of her. "I can't stand you, Emma, and neither can anyone else. You'll be staying here so that you don't poison others by just being by them."
Emma shook her head. "Regina…Henry? They have to wonder where I am."
SaI laughed evilly at that. "They know, stupid girl, and they're glad you're away from them. Poor Henry gets physically sick when he thinks about how he has your blood in him. That's what you do, Emma, you make people sick."
Emma swallowed the lump in her throat. "Then just let me go. I'll leave Storybrooke. I won't even call or tell anyone, I'll just go. Please, please don't leave me in here."
"Why? At least in here, you'll be taken care of."
"I…I don't want to be stuck in here. If you let me go, let me leave town, you'll never see me again." Emma said, already forming a plan in her head.
"Tell me what you're thinking, stupid girl."
"I can't kill myself in here!" Emma admitted, fresh tears falling. "I can't even fucking hurt myself. I don't want to live, okay? I'm such…I'm such a failure, I just want to end it. I need to end the pain!"
'Well hell, this didn't take long' Snow thought as she smirked. "I'll talk to Maleficent about it and tell you what we decide. But Emma, smart people would realize they can hurt themselves with anything." She said, smirking at the blonde before spitting at her. "Stupid fool." She said and turned, leaving the room.
Both Ingrid and Mal were sobbing at this point and Mal called Regina. She cried harder as the connection was broken and Ingrid had to take the phone. She was just as upset as Mal, but she didn't have that connection Mal had. Mal could not only feel her own pain, but also Emma's and her baby girl was devastated.
"It has to be Snow and David." Regina said, pacing the floor in Mal's room. No, she didn't want to see Emma upset, but she wanted to see her girlfriend. Unfortunately, there hadn't been another connection to the mirror for two days. "No one else would do this to her, to you."
"To us." Ingrid said, knowing this was killing Regina as well. "But they don't have magic."
"No, but Fiona does." Cora said, glancing at Mal. "Can you feel her?"
Maleficent shook her head. "Not since my wings were taken. But I think you're right, she's helping them." She chewed on her lip. "Do…are any of you close to the other Fairies? Would Blue help Emma?"
Cora hated the Blue Bug, but she knew the fairy may be able to help. Regina sighed. "She refused to help me when I needed it, but maybe if I explain the situation, she'll help with this."
"What about Rumple?" Ingrid asked, though she knew how both Maleficent and Regina felt about him.
"I tried, but he found a way over the boarder and is off looking for his son." Maleficent stated. "Belle is looking through books to see if there's anything we may not know about."
Regina gasped as an image of Emma came on the mirror. She had bruising all over her face and looked terrible. "Oh, my love." She said, tears in her eyes.
FaM was once again yelling at her and putting her down, making her believe she was unloved and unwanted. She was slapping her and kicking her and Emma just lay there, not even trying to fight back or protect herself. "Stop banging your head on the floor and the wall. I may not come in time to save you."
"I don't care. Just let me go." Emma said.
"I can't, no matter how badly I want to. Don't worry, stupid girl, your time will come soon." She went to the mirror and smirked. "I just need you to be fully broken." She said quietly, so that those watching would hear. "How does it feel to watch her suffer? It's what you deserve, dear sister and it's what she deserves."
Before more could be said, the connection was broken and Mal threw her glass across the room. She used her magic and was gone from the room and it didn't take long until they heard the saddest sound they'd ever heard. Mal's dragon was sobbing, calling out for her baby and just letting out pain. Ingrid crumpled to the floor, her sobs soaking into a pillow. Neither Cora nor Regina knew what to do, but they both had tears and felt terrible.
"I'm going to Blue." Regina said, not able to do nothing.
Over the next few weeks, Emma became a shell of herself. She didn't eat, didn't drink, didn't do anything but lay on the mattress, wishing for death. FaM or SaI would force her to drink, force her to shower, and tried to force her to eat. FaM would heal her enough after she'd bang her head hard enough to pass out, so that she wouldn't die, but she'd still have the pain. The worst though, surprisingly, was when David would come. Emma didn't understand why he'd come, why he was with her mother's and not with Snow, but after his first visit, she knew what to expect.
He'd trash her, beat her, and then rape her, telling her this was all she was good for. She had to wonder if Snow knew what he was doing or if she told him to do it. She honestly didn't know what was worse, her mothers, or David. All she knew was once she got out of here, she would kill herself because she felt far too broken to ever be okay again.
"Regina, I promise I want to help you. I just need to see so I can try to use magic to figure out where they are. I've tried everything else I can think of, but nothing is working." Blue said, feeling horrible for everyone involved. Sure, they may have been villains, but it was obvious they loved and cared for Emma, and as far as she was concerned, Emma was innocent in all this.
A 'council' of sorts had gathered to discuss everything since they all knew that once they could get to Emma, things would get tricky. Blue, Archie, Granny, Ruby, Thomas, and Ella were all there and all wanted to help.
"It's just…the longer this goes on, the harder it will be for her to recover. She thinks her mothers hate her and are beating her and abusing her, she thinks I hate her…she things she has no one. How do we…fix her? I mean, how do we correct all this when she's…when we get her?"
"It will take time, patience, and love, Regina, but I do think you all can do it." Blue said, gaining nods from Archie, Red, Thomas, Granny, and Ella.
"It's been two months, Blue. Two months of constant abuse, beatings, degradation, brain washing, and worse. They took an already vulnerable, emotionally unstable survivor of abuse, and beat her down, made her believe horrible things. She is begging to die."
Blue, who never though she'd be in this position, reached out and hugged Regina, knowing the woman needed to be comforted. "I know you have every right not to trust me, but I can help. When we get her, let me take her? Between magic and therapy, Archie and I can reverse the brain washing." She looked between Regina, Maleficent, and Ingrid. "I know you all want her and never want to let her go but please, just think about it. She's being told now over and over that you all hate her. She believes you all are doing this to her because you don't want her. If you take her in, she's going to be terrified."
Mal hated it, but she knew Blue was right. She looked at Ingrid and Regina and then sighed. "You swear you'll take care of her?"
"I swear. I'll give you my blood oath, Maleficent. She can stay in the convent or in a room in the hospital, and you can visit as soon as Archie and I think she's ready."
"In the meantime, we have to figure out what to do with Snow, Charming, and Fiona." Thomas stated, hoping maybe a change in topic would help everyone. "Maleficent, Regina, and Cora were able to magic proof the cells at the station, but that isn't a long-term solution."
"They will go there until we can figure out what to do with them." Regina stated her mayor face back on. "Fiona will have a cuff and be locked up under the hospital. It's best to separate them."
"We will meet as a council once Emma is saved and the three are apprehended." Granny stated and was about to say more when the mirror came to life.
Everyone was stunned silent when they saw Emma. She was a shell of herself; bruised, bloody, dirty, her hair in tangles, her body so, so skinny. She was a walking skeleton and looked dead already. No eyes were dry as they watched FaM beat the girl, all while claiming to be her mother. Blue had to focus, not letting what was happening distract her. "They're at the loft." She said, her hand with the want out and her eyes closed. "There's a secret door to that room, but they're at the loft." She opened her eyes and looked at Thomas and Ruby. "Let's get them." She held her hand up as Mal and Regina stood. "You guys must stay here. Please. We can handle it and we cannot have you two doing something that will make this worse. I know you want to; I know they deserve to be hurt, but please, Emma doesn't need to see that right now."
Mal grit her teeth but nodded. "You're right. But Blue…if it's at all possible…please let her see who they really are."
"I plan on it."
Snow and Charming were easy to arrest and Thomas had them in cuffs and in the cruiser in no time. Blue headed down the stairs and quietly came into the room, glad Fiona was too busy to notice her. When she was close enough, she reached out and froze the woman. "That's enough, Fiona." She put the cuff on the woman who immediately transformed back into herself. "You're under arrest. You will no longer hurt an innocent." She handed the woman over to Ruby but held her hand up so Ruby would hold the woman. She went to Emma and gently lifted her head. "Emma sweetheart, this was never your mother. Neither of them. This is Fiona and she was pretending to be her sister Maleficent. Snow was pretending to be Ingrid, my sweet child. I know it will take time to believe, but your mothers were never here, and they do love you."
Emma, who's eyes were blank, shook her head. "No one loves me." She said quietly as she curled back up on the bed. "Please leave me alone. My whole body hurts and I just…I just wanna sleep."
Blue nodded to Ruby who took Fiona up and to the other cruiser. She then sighed as Thomas took pictures needed for evidence. "Emma? Honey, you're safe now. They're gone." She said softly, but the blonde just ignored her. "Do you want to come with me, or would you like to see Regina?"
Emma opened her eyes at that, but instead of looking hopeful, she looked fearful. "No! Regina doesn't love or want me; she wants my mom. I want to leave! I want to just leave Storybrooke!"
"Oh, my sweet girl." Blue said, and unchained Emma, but hesitated to take the cuff off. She didn't want the woman disappearing on her. "Come with me then."
Emma didn't argue and allowed herself to be led out of her prison. She barely had energy to go up the steps so Blue used her magic, taking them to the convent. She had a room all set up and once Emma was laying down, she used her magic to heal her as much as she could. She couldn't 'fix' her nutrition, but she could heal everything else. She then closed the door, hating that she had to lock it, and got her phone out. "I have her." Blue said quietly. "I healed everything I could, but she needs food. She's so tired, emotionally and physically drained."
"Thank you, Blue. I'll send Granny over with some food." Maleficent said, hating that she couldn't go. "Tell her we love her. Please."
"I have and I will keep telling her. I promise, Archie and I will do everything we can to be sure she understands what is going on."
"Can I see her? Please Blue, I need to see her."
"Your magic will work, Maleficent. There's a mirror in her room. You can see her any time; I won't keep her from you."
Mal used her magic and saw her baby girl in bed sleeping. She did look cleaner and better without the blood and bruises, but she was far too thin and far too sad. "Thank you, Blue."
Every night that week, Maleficent, Ingrid, Cora, and Regina all watched as Emma slept, as she talked to Blue, as she talked to Archie, as she fought with herself to believe, but ultimately unable to do so. Yes, she was away from harm, but they still couldn't hold her. They had seen earlier just how bad it was when Archie and Blue tried telling her again that it was Snow and Fiona. She just couldn't believe that and begged them to just let her die. Blue used magic, giving her some calming tea and knowing that first and foremost, Emma needed sleep and food. She'd work on the rest in time.
Emma lay in the new bed, confusing thoughts in her head. She'd been told her mothers love her and want her and weren't the ones who hurt her, but…but she saw them. It wasn't Fiona or Snow, it was Ingrid and Maleficent. She rolled over and smelled the food left on the table by her bed. She ate earlier, but then got sick – probably because she ate too much, too fast so this time, she slowly nibbled at the toasted cheese that was still somehow nice and hot. As she ate, she looked at the mirror, taking deep breaths as she tried to decide if she should do it. "Regina?" She finally said, quietly. "Are you there? I don't know how mirror magic works."
Regina gasped and looked around. "I should answer, right?"
"Yes, but maybe tilt it to the side so she doesn't see us. We still have our bond to worry about and, I'm sorry love, but her seeing you Ingrid, may trigger something."
"You're right." Ingrid agreed. "Answer her, Regina."
Regina stood and tilted the mirror as she wiped her face. She waved her hand and knew Emma saw her. "Emma baby? I'm here, sweetheart. I'm here." She said, holding her hand to the mirror.
Emma's eyes filled with tears. "She said you don't love me. She said…she said you fuck her every night and can't stand being with me, that you and Henry were glad I was gone. Please, please tell me the truth, Regina. Do you hate me?"
"Oh, Emma." Regina said, her tone heartbroken. "It's not true at all. I love you with everything that I am. Maleficent and I have only ever been friends and that's all we will be because I love you and she loves Ingrid. Emma, you…you're my everything. Henry and I have missed you, have cried for you, did everything we could to find you. We love you so much, Emma." She looked at her. "May I come to you?"
Emma nodded and stepped back as Regina stepped through the mirror. As soon as she was through, she wrapped her arms around the far too skinny blonde. Emma was crying as she held Regina, feeling the woman's love for her. "Regina I…I'm sorry I believed her."
"Shhh, Emma. You have nothing to feel guilty or be sorry for. You have done nothing wrong."
Emma glanced at the mirror. "Are they all there?"
"They are my love, but they're giving you time." Regina said, stroking Emma's cheek.
Emma's eyes filled as she looked at Regina. "I don't know what to believe." She whispered. "I'm sorry, I just…I don't know!" She felt herself getting upset and took deep breaths.
Regina sent calming magic through to Emma and took her to the bed. "It's okay, Emma. No one is expecting you to be recovered so quickly. What you went through was brain washing, abuse, and more. No one expects you to just be okay."
Emma lay down and swallowed. "Tell them I'm trying? I'm really trying, Regina."
"We know that, but I'll tell them."
"I'm really tired, Regina. I'm so tired, always so tired."
"I know sweetheart, but you're getting stronger every day. Get some sleep and if you want, I'll be back tomorrow."
"Stay until I fall asleep? Please?"
Regina nodded and lay with Emma, sending her more calming magic and magic to help her sleep without nightmares. "I love you, Emma Swan.
"I love you, 'Gina." Emma mumbled. "Thank you for loving me."
