I've decided to start a Stable girl series of One-Shots. Maybe, one day, I might write a longer story concerning our favourite little stable hand. Stable girl will finally get a name in the next installment in the Stable Girl series.
Hope you all love this new one!
Stable girl's thoughts after Éomer has returned from Gondor after the war. Theoden's body has been brought back and buried. Éomer has been named heir and his coronation as king of Rohan is only a few days away.
The world is changing. She risked a look outside into the sun soaked courtyard as she tackled up Firefoot. He stood talking and laughing with his men.
It had been many a long year since the people of Edoras had honestly smiled. They used to pull false smiles in comfort of their children and for the White lady's sanity. Now they were free of the treason of Isengard and the shadow of the East and could smile by just the shining of the sun. The breeze was gentle and held only the slightly chill of the passed spring. Summer was coming and the atmosphere was joyous.
Éomer was just getting ready to go out riding with his eored on a hunt. She quickly lowered her gaze back to the bridle in hand when he glanced over to see how his mount was coming along. She busied herself with placing the bridle on the stallion's head when she heard the conversation outside draw to a close. As she rushed in a panic her hands lost grip of the bridle and it dropped to the floor with a thud. Muttering curses under her breath, she jumped as another hand reached down at the same time as hers and took hold of the bridle. Youstupid girl, now he thinks you're a bigger fool than before. She turned and looked at him, his dark eyes meeting her grey ones for a frozen moment. Realising she was staring, bowing, she stepped aside and let him put the bridle on the beautiful dapple.
A smile crept up on the corner of her lips as he rode out of the gates with his men around and behind him. With her hands held behind her back and her head down, she let the small smirk grow into a large grin as she walked over to the swung open doors. Looking out she could see the excitement in the people as they rushed around in organising preparations for the vast approaching coronation. Rohan will finally be at peace and all shall prosper. The first dawn after a long winter night.
