Distortion 22

In the cold Otsunian weather, the only way to stay warm is to normally huddle up to a source of heat. Whether it may be man-made or formed with Seithr, heat is often the one thing that brings people together. Thus it is not surprising that heat would once again bring two opposing forces towards each other. Unlike the normal heat formed from fire, this heat was a more philosophical one, the heat from from the individuals fighting for their own beliefs.

Tetsu's steel was one of those heat sources as he slashed at the air trying to have his attack connect with Meifang LapisLazuli. He couldn't help but pant a little as while they were able to exploit the layout of Otsu to their advantage, he and his fellow comrades were still criminals at the end of the day and the amount of combat fighting that a criminal has to go through versus an actual NOL soldier who has been through a war was beginning to show, especially in terms of stamina as Tetsu himself could note that he was starting to slow down.

"Awww Losing steam I see." Meifang teased as Vlad fired another shot right at Meifang, his massive body moving up and down as he panted as he found it harder and harder to keep his massive anti material rifle in a stable firing position. He was the most experienced of the Otsu four when it came to actually fighting but fighting someone as strong as Meifang Lapislazuli even with a 4 vs 1 advantage was proving very taxing.

"What do we do? At the rate we are going, we are going to end up getting captured." Zhang Pi whispered, wanting to know what her fellow heads thought of the situation in front of them. "We could always retreat now, but I highly doubt that Meifang will let us run away without giving chase." Sofia quickly quipped as she laid out covering fire to force Meifang to pull back as she checked her magazine reserves.

"Shit. I am running low. How about you Vlad? You still got rounds big guy?" Sofia questioned as Vlad himself checked his reserves and had a grimaced look on his face. "I only have 1 magazine of bullets left. Whatever we want to do, we better do it quick before me and Sofia run out of bullets." Vlad said as Tetsu closed his eyes and knew what he had to do. "Zhang Pi, How much metal is around the place?" Tetsu asked as Zhang Pi scanned around for a bit.

"At least two apartment buildings worth of metal. Are you going to do what I think you are going to do?" Zhang Pi asked as Tetsu simply nodded his head and stabbed his katana to the ground before ripping the upper portion of his clothes right off, exposing the full back tattoo of a Samurai on his back as he began to focus, closing his eyes as he began to manipulate the metal around the area. Meifang could sense that Tetsu was planning something and immediately acted by dashing in to intercept.

Her fist was close to taking his head off when she sensed the presence of two guns charging towards her. Vlad and Sofia, realizing their ammunition was running low, waited for Meifang to get closer in order to use the barrel of their guns to slam into Meifang's chest and let out a volley of gunfire. Meifang, quick to sense their intentions immediately backed off her attack and formed a barrier to protect herself from the small arms fire that Sofia released.

This gave Vlad the time he needed to do a tactical reload and fire immediately, knocking the barrier up into the air as the last few bullets from Sofia's gun fired and managed to land hits on Meifang's thigh and leg. The shots themselves were non fatal but they were enough to create more distance between Meifang and the Otsu four. Tetsu continued to focus on what he was doing as his muscles were straining as the metal around the area began to pull.

'Is that man really trying to manipulate the metal around this area? That's a truly powerful Drive that man has got.' Meifang thought as Tetsu gritted his teeth. His drive, Metallurgy, often gets mixed together with magnetism. It may seem like that because he manipulates metals to be pulled closer to him but that is not the case. Without the gauntlet he had graciously gotten the blueprints from Kokonoe and had recreated by Caroline, he wouldn't be able to pull the metal around him right now closer.

'Focus… hold the image in your mind.' Tetsu thought as his muscles relaxed, his posture lightened as he forgot the strain his body was feeling at that moment. Meifang could see the metal around the area begin to swim towards him, like metal snakes as she arched her back and lunged forward, blasting away both Sofia and Vlad when they tried to block. This left Tetsu exposed as Meifang was not going to let whatever Tetsu was doing actually succeed.

'Tetsu of the Otsu Four. You truly are one of the most dangerous criminals out there in the world. Truly earning the SS rank to your name. Just means that taking you down will be even sweeter.' Meifang thought as Tetsu had to fully focus on his drive, closing his eyes to ensure he had the proper concentration and thus was unable to block in any manner as it seemed that Meifang's attack will land. "And just what do you think you are trying to do now?" Zhang Pi said, surprising Meifang as she felt her arm get grabbed mid flight.

Normally, Meifang would overpower anybody who tried to stop her in her tracks but Zhang Pi was not putting any strength to her grab. In fact, she was not trying to restrain Meifang in any way as she calmly slipped past Meifang's guard and in a swift motion, used Meifang's own growing momentum against her as Meifang found herself soaring back to where she had started her last ditch attempt at an attack.

'Aikido?! No but it is some momentum based martial arts that Chinese slut just used.' Meifang quickly deduced as Zhang Pi had a small smile on her face. Other than her drive, Bloodhound, most of the NOL did not know about Zhang Pi's actual strength since she was not really known to be one of the main fighters of Otsu Four. Regardless, she had to admit to herself that she had slightly underestimated Zhang Pi at what could be at the most crucial step.

At the moment Meifang was in the air, Tetsu's eyes opened, his normally silver eyes shining sharply as the metal around the area began to bend and fold into several different shapes. Metals that normally would require fire to be forged together began to weave like the string of cloth, the metallic pieces shining in the sky as Tetsu encased Meifang inside a ball of Steel, preventing her from escaping as Tetsu began to focus even further to manipulate the rest of the steel around him to form a metallic beast.

"BE DEVOURED BY THE GREAT BEAST OF THE EAST!" Tetsu yelled as the steel began to weave itself into a mythical creature. The metal sheen and was made to look like scales as soon a massive dragon was formed. "STEEL RISING!" Tetsu yelled as the Metallic beast arched it's back before charging towards the metal ball that had encased Meifang. It soon rode high up into the sky before it dived right towards the ground, ready to face plant itself on the ground.

"NOW!" Vlad shouted as he aimed the barrel of his sniper rifle right at the metal ball that the dragon was holding. Several ars magus sigils began to form throughout the barrel as Sofia began to help Vlad with his own special attack. Vlad simply focused on ensuring his aim was true as the bullets from his last magazine began to rip itself from it's magazine and began to spin around his anti material rifle.

The bullets themselves were nothing extraordinary. They were just normal manufactured bullets made to fire thanks to a small ars magus circle inside the bullet itself. But it was this very power that Vlad was harnessing as he closed his eyes and focused. "FIRE! RAILGUN!" Vlad shouted as he changed the very element of the ars magus bullets into lightning thanks to Sofia managing the majority of the Ars magus conversion process.

As soon as Vlad pulled the trigger, the massive amount of force that came right out of the barrel was enough to completely destroy the Anti Material rifle, exploding in his hands as the bullet charged towards Meifang Lapislazuli at near the speed of light. It's brilliance was enough to make the sky part as it struck the metal ball and pierced through cleanly as the dragon came crashing down at a random spot that was out of view for the Otsu four.

Immediately after sensing that their threat was gone from their presence, Vlad and Tetsu collapsed to their knees, Sofia barely able to support the massive man while Zhang Pi smiled. "Do you think that was enough to finally put down the one who cannot feel pain?" Zhang Pi questioned as Tetsu thought about what she said before simply shaking his head. "We may have annoyed her enough to make her really consider us as a threat to crush next time… if we ever decide to meet again but for all things good about this world let's never have to get to that point." Vlad commented as he placed more weight onto Sofia's tiny shoulders.

"God you weigh like a fucking brick house. Let's just get out of here. We did our role as the distraction for long enough. Let's just hope that squirrel girl got what she wanted in the process." Sofia said as Tetsu simply nodded his head. "I will...trust you with the rest then." Tetsu simply said before finally fainting, the fatigue of fighting Meifang and having to create the metallic dragon being the main culprit as Zhang Pi simply smiled and looked at Sofia.

"You handle Vlad, I got Tetsu over here." Zhang Pi said before leaving as Sofia simply pouted and glared at her fellow Otsunian head. "GOD DAMMIT! YOU KNOW THAT I CAN BARELY HOLD THE BIG GUY HERE! WHY DON'T WE SWAP!" Sofia shouted as Zhang Pi simply chuckled, angering the young head even more as Vlad placed a hand on her head. "Come on now… Let's just get going already. Maybe you can give me some of that secret booze you have been hiding later. I am feeling really parched." Vlad said, Sofia noting that the hand that he was petting her with was the hand that was still holding onto the Anti Material rifle and thus had some noticeable burn marks on it as she simply sighed and nodded her head.

"….Fine… But you aren't going to drink more than a bottle okay old man."

At the crash site of where the metal dragon had crashed, metal was strewn all over the place in a fantastic display. Meifang was panting heavily, body pinned by various steel bars but was still breathing thanks to a combination of her drive in action keeping her from actually sensing the pain and thus preventing her body from going into shock and the barrier she had formed to protect herself from the disaster that had unfolded in front of her.

"Damn those four. Having something cheeky for me that I didn't expect." Meifang complained loudly as she slammed her fist onto a flat piece of metal, bending it in the process. She had not expected that the Otsu Four was willing to try something like the stunt they did and they were beginning to annoy her further and further. Her urge to simply kill them off completely grew with every second as she began to push the rubble that was on top of her right off.

Had she underestimated four criminals due to her experience squashing even more powerful foes? Of course she did and there was no other way of looking at it. She had allowed her own confidence to be her own downfall and while she did not die this day, she had made a fool of herself that she couldn't forgive herself about. She sighed after pushing the last of the rubble off as she sat down on the carnage and stared at the sky for a little bit, her mind wandering to the last person she wanted to think about while this failure hung on her head.

"Why now...of all moments did I think about you right now. My lady Tenjo" Meifang said to herself as she scratched her head. She felt something well up inside her, a feeling of nostalgia most likely as she stood up to take in her surroundings to process everything. Her body was not heavily damaged thanks to a combination of her Drive and last minute ars magus to protect herself from even more severe damage. But the fact that she failed still lingered in her mind.

Failed… just like how she failed her first and most precious friend. The one who she had sworn her life to and allowed to die just like that. All because she was just too weak to do anything. As she took around her surroundings, the carnage, the violence unfolding all around her, she couldn't help but grit her teeth even harder at her failure in handling the situation as she felt like her goal of stopping all war was much further than she had expected.

"I thought crushing those rebels who dared to use your name in such a disgusting manner would be enough to bring peace… but it looks like it was not enough my friend." Meifang said, not to herself but the friend she lost as she heard footsteps approach her way at that moment. "My my. To have lost in the way you have. I would have not figured that to be possible Miss LapisLazuli." a certain green haired bastard spoke as Meifang was strangely in a sense of calm to be angry with him right now as she turned to face him.

Meifang: What do you want snake? More importantly, what are you doing here in Otsu of all places. Shouldn't you be busy being the Imperator's lap dog or something like that.

Hazama: Oh your words hurt me. But you are right to ask me such questions. Let's just say I am doing my own research into things

Meifang: Research? Don't tell me you are getting involved with Relius Clover's little side project as well

Hazama: Exactly! But it seems that the project has hit a bit of a snag, our little troublesome squirrel has found herself in meddling hands again

Meifang: Makoto Nanaya?! Then tell me why you are wasting time talking to me instead of handling the immediate looming threat of our friend messing with the cauldron.

Hazama: Because it seems our friend had managed to meddle in things that she shouldn't be and as a result, our time in this loop will be soon cut short for that very reason. I am just here to watch you at your lowest point while burning this into my memory.

Meifang could barely understand a word this man was speaking to her. Nor did she care to actually make sense of everything as she scratched her head hearing that. "So what do you think is going to change huh. You're the man who remembers everything if I remember right." Meifang explained as Hazama simply smiled hearing that. "Oh I don't know. Maybe I will let you know when I actually remember to do so." Hazama teased as he turned to see a massive pillar of light emerge from the NOL Otsu branch.

"Though if you want some advice, when we get to the next cycle, maybe it's time to put those things you were given to good use if I say so myself." Hazama commented as Meifang looked at her hands, understanding what he was talking about. "You need all of the power you can get. You should really stop with trying to hold yourself back you know. You won't be able to get what you desire if you keep on holding back like you have." Hazama simply commented as he walked towards the now approaching beam of light without hesitation. Meifang couldn't help but keep in mind what Hazama said.

As she allowed the white light to engulf her as well, making her mind go blank in the process.

MAKOTO POV

The first thing I felt when I could feel anything was the ground below me. Standing on firm ground was enough to tell me that I didn't die a horrible death when that beam of white light hit me in the face. That's at least a good fact to know as that told me I am alive, and still myself at the end of this thought experiment. Oh who am I kidding. I somehow managed to find a way to activate yet another cauldron and let it swallow me whole. At the rate I am going, I will be the first beastkin/living being to have taken several trips into the Boundary and lived to tell the tale… if people would believe what I am saying in the first place.

As I take a few deep breaths, adjusting myself to the surroundings around me and trying to regain my senses. I cannot help but wonder about the final moments I had before that fateful blast of white light engulfed me and made me like this. Did I manage to form the contract with this thing that has been telling me to do so for so many times now? And if so, what kind of contract did I sign exactly? I really hope it's not one of those pyramid scheme contracts where I need to tell more people about what I experienced to get progress or worse, a death contract.

Suddenly, A new sensation begins to take over my body. I feel the ground below me begin to shake, as if I was beginning to live through an earthquake as my spectral body tried to brace for something that was not there. I felt the air that would be inside me leave as I fell down like a rock. I thought that being a ghost would be all fun and games and I would be able to move however I wanted but if this is the reality of being a ghost, it's a pretty shitty reality if I have to be honest.

I tried to force my eyes open as they felt like someone was trying to hold them shut. In fact my whole body feels like wires were being wrapped around me, prickling me as they tightened more and more to prevent me from being able to move myself freely. I opened my mouth for no voice to come out as I truly felt trapped, restrained even. My body must be naked for me to feel this excruciating pain yet I cannot tell as I focused harder in trying to pry my eyes free.

It was then I could hear footsteps approaching my way. I tried to get my eyes open to see who was approaching me but I couldn't. The fact that I could even hear in the first place is just an understatement as I tried to crawl my way towards the sound, hoping that I would reach somewhere if I did. It was working as I could actually hear labored breathing, something making a tough journey and bearing a heavy weight on their shoulders as I tried to focus in on the panting to get a better idea of the person whose breathing it belong to.

"You have formed the contract… You are willing to make us whole… What are you willing to sacrifice to do so?" The voice spoke. That voice, that woman's voice. I hear it over and over again for the past few days now ever since I had that moment the first time I was leaving Otsu with Caroline, Noel and Hunter. It has been playing on repeat over and over again and I just want to punch her now for just repeating the same thing over and over again.

I could feel the so called chains around me begin to loosen as I felt my jaw open up. "Sacrifice? Haven't I already sacrificed enough already in my life?" I questioned as I felt the chain that was around the stump of my right arm begin to loosen as well. "I formed this contract with the intention of reaching to the truth. I will sacrifice everything I got to get to the person I love but I refuse to come to him a husk of the person I am." I said with a firm voice, feeling even more of the chains begin to loosen more as I felt my control over my own body return to me.

"Then tell me what you sacrifice for?" The voice asked. A brand new question to me and something that caught me slight off guard but a new question regardless that had the most obvious answer to me. "To be in a world with the person I love. To never have anything try to pull us apart. Whether that may be ourselves or the whole world fighting against us." I said as more chains began to loosen and more control of my body was slowly returned to me.

"Even if it meant getting erased from the world?" The voice questioned as if to make me pause and doubt myself as I felt the chains tighten briefly to try and inflict self doubt into me. "I may not speak for every single timeline version of me that ever lived. I don't even pretend to know what the master unit may want from me. But all I want is just to be happy and to be with the person I call my love. And if it means being erased by the world then I will gladly take that and shove it up to the god of this world's ass!"

The literal yell I made at the end felt like a liberating moment from me as the chains all came loose at that moment, releasing me from the binds that tied me down as I felt free. My eyes were able to open as I saw where I was finally and simply gasped at the area around me. It was nothing but pure white, the ground, the sky, everything. The only things that had color was my naked body and the slight white mist that surrounded me as I processed everything I was seeing but did not say a word, wanting to let the gravity of the situation I was in sink with me first before I said anything unnecessary.

I allowed my body to move a little, breathe around the area it was in as I slowly walked forward. I didn't know where I was trying to go but I needed to move forward regardless to my final destination. Then I heard the breathing once again, almost as if it was right next to me as I focused on trying to find the source of that voice. Maybe if I find the voice, I can find out where on Earth I am and maybe finally get the answers that I have been looking for such as who this mysterious voice was and why they were after me.

"Not...Not yet…" The voice muttered as I could start to see something at the distance. Even though the person was so far, they seemed so close, as if I could touch them that was how close I felt I was to this mystery person. "Not...after I have come this far…" The voice continued as I tried to get closer to get a better look at this person. But try as I might, no matter how much I tried to get closer, I couldn't close the gap for some reason. It truly felt like a struggle to get closer, like a massive gust of wind blowing at me.

"I must...get back to her...back to her…" The voice continued as I had a feeling I knew who this person was. If only I could just reach out, just touch them. "HEY! OVER HERE!" I screamed, hoping to grab their attention as the figure continued to march on towards the white space. I cannot see their face but the way their body was slumped forward, exhausted beyond belief and fighting what seemed to be an impossible situation. Most normal people would have been broken at this point… most except for one idiot I know very well from the bottom of my heart.

"SORA!" I yelled out, hoping to make the figure stop moving and face my direction. The figure stopped but instead of turning my way, I could see the figure pant heavily, their breathing hard as if they had not stopped walking for the longest time. But the fact that the figure stopped gave me hope. Hope that I am seeing what I want to see. "Am...Am I hallucinating? is...Is this...some cruel joke?" The voice questioned further, slowly becoming more and more clear I wanted to control my emotions but couldn't feeling something swell up inside of me as I took a deep breath.

"No! It's not! I am right here!" I yelled out, hoping that idiot had some sort of cognitive reasoning left in his head as I waited with bated breath for him to realize that it was me screaming towards him and not whatever may have been torturing him. "...I want to turn back… but I can't. I won't be swayed...not by you...or this shitty world you are trying to create without me in the picture." Sora said, the mental anguish clear on his face as I wanted to scream over and over again that I was here. That whatever was causing him pain and anguish was not there and that he finally stop his long journey.

"She's waiting for me… She's waiting and fighting I know it. If there's one thing I know about Makoto Nanaya. She's never going to stop moving. So I won't stop moving myself. I must get back to her...no matter...no matter what." Sora muttered as he slogged on forward. I held back my tongue from speaking further as I watched him simply move forward. It was at that moment I realize that Sora must have been trying to move forward. He like me must have been facing his own kind of battle. A battle not too different from my own fight to get him back.

How much of the world has tried to batter him, break him, make him give up? Judging from the way he slung his back and how tired his voice sounded, it sounds like he has simply been fighting through hell and back to do something, anything that would make him reach his goal. I cannot help but wonder if the world had tried to do cruel things to him like make him relieve through traumatic experiences or even make him hear voices that sound like those that are important to him… The older adopted sister he lost, the team that he lost… me that he's trying not to let go past his fingertips.

My words may be heard by him right now but I understand that speaking any further would leave him drained. He would stop moving forward, stop progressing. As much as it pains me to just let him go past me now… I don't think I can make him suffer through any more than I want to make him suffer. The simple fact that he is alive right now is simply relief to my heart, relief that is all I could ask for and if this contract I am making helps me get back to him, then I don't care what it is, I will take it.

"So you know what you want… and are willing to go through hell to get it...I ask you once more, are you ready to walk into the fires of hell to get your way?" The voice questioned as I turned to the direction of the voice and immediately in front of me was the girl that I saw in my dream. The girl that spoke to Nine the phantom. Her face was blurry but it felt familiar at the same time as I looked at her for a bit before I turned back to face Sora and where he was heading towards.

"Yeah...I am ready to open the fires of hel…" Before I could finish my sentence, I was blasted in the face by heat that felt like it was scalding my skin. I tried to scream but the sudden blast of heat was enough to drown out my voice as I instinctively tried to shield my naked body with my arms, failing in the process as the heat got gradually hotter and hotter until it felt unbearably hot and was threatening to burn me alive in the process.

Okay… Hell was something I was expecting to experience in a metaphorical way… not the actual fires of hell that burn sinners kind of hell that most religions depict hell as. All I could do was simply grit my teeth as it wasn't just flames being thrown my way. Ash and dust created by said flames began to coat themselves all over my body, making it feel like I was being bathed in the dirt. I can only hope that this body of mine right now is truly an astral one and not a real body because I really do not want to clean off this ash and dust that is right on my damn crotch right now, especially near my pussy and anus.

"YOU DARE STAND IN MY WAY?!" A voice cried out as I opened my eyes when I heard the sound of something unholy screaming my way. What could possibly cause such a voice? If you say a man completely engulfed in flames holding what seems to be a staff that resembled the tail of a dragon then I would like to know how you could accurately guess that. Regardless, The fact that I was seeing something in front of me that seemed similar yet different was an understatement.

"Yes! YES I DO!" another person screamed as I turned my back towards where I heard the sound to see another person. At first I could barely see a thing with the whole area being caught in a massive dust storm but my eyes soon adjusted and I realized what I was looking at. It was that person that I saw in my dreams, the girl who spent time with the Great Sage Nine. The only difference was her now white hair and yellow eyes… features that Sora would have as I felt a blast of heat hit my back as the man on fire must have not like what she said.

"WHY!? YOU HAVE SEEN THE TRUTH OF THE WORLD!? WHAT IT IS TRYING TO DO! YOU HAVE SEEN THE SAME THINGS I HAVE SEEN AND HAVE SEEN THAT HUMANITY IS BEYOND SAVING! SO WHY DO YOU INSIST ON CONTINUING THIS POINTLESS FIGHT!" The man shouted, his words having more power behind them as for some reason I could sort of get what he could be possibly be talking about. The way he worded his sentence to her, it implies that the both of them have seen the truth of the world… aka the Azure itself

"It's simple really. Because I want to." The woman from my dreams spoke as that simple desire was surprising enough to catch the man off guard as I felt a sense of familiarity from that sentence. The being in question stared at her confused as the woman softly smiled. "I don't care about what this world truly means. I don't try to make sense of things that don't make sense to me. All I care about is protecting the things that I truly care for." The woman continued as I placed a hand on my chest, feeling touched by what she said as if she meant those words to me

"That's why I fight you. Not for some truth that I don't understand. But for the people that I love and care for!" The woman shouted as a rush of air came blasting towards me, blowing away all the dust and the vivid imaginary around me as she flew past me, holding what looked like a small katana. Compared to the massive staff that could also double as a blade that the flaming being was holding, her blade seemed to be a lot smaller and brittle.

"THEN YOU CAN DIE! ALONG WITH THIS FALSE WORLD IN FLAMES!" The flaming being shouted as I turned to see the man unleash a wave of flames like the which nobody has ever seen before. The battle in front of me felt like I was watching something out of a religious book happen in front of my eyes. The woman did not say a word as a light brightly shone in my face, blinding me once again as I tried to cover my eyes to block the light to no avail.

"For my own wish, I shall overwrite the destiny the world has laid out for me, and create a new path ahead!" The woman said as I felt something pierce me at that moment right at my chest. A painful sensation would normally come over you at that moment but I simply felt nothing as I ended up face to face with the woman right at my face as I could feel her breathing right at my face. "You formed the contract. You made the same decision I made all those centuries ago. Now it's up to you to make us whole." The woman said to me as once again, her words fly by my head as I felt her hand touch my forehead.

As soon as she did that, I felt a lightness hit my head as I struggled to maintain my consciousness. I tried to look at her right at in her eyes as I had so many questions to ask her at that moment. Like what would I need to do, where do I go? Who was she and most important of all, why did she choose me of all people to do this? "You know...when I look at you, I look at myself a bit. It's good to see that people like you still exist even after all this time." The woman said to me as she smiled to me warmly. Her words to me meant something for some reason as I couldn't help but tear up as my consciousness went away from me.

...as for once in my currently shitty life, I finally have a direction I can go to…
