I sat between Nat and Unc in the back of a ridiculously expensive car. Nat was telling me about how she helped decorate my room with Pepper, and how Wanda was excited to meet me. I couldn't help but wonder why the rest of them didn't come to pick us up as well, but it was none of my business. At least I get to have some female interaction living here. Living with dad, well, it was nonexistent and I wasn't really close with any girls back in Forks.
Unc was on his phone, texting someone every now and then. He finally interrupted mine and Nat's conversation and turned his body to face me.
"Bells," he said. "We are going to put your bags in your room, then have some lunch. After lunch I want to take you to the training room."
I sat up a little straighter, and Steve piped up.
"Training room? Tony you didn't mention anything about that," he said. I bristled. Please do not tell me he's going to make comments about how I shouldn't be in the training room. Especially with Nat, otherwise known as Black Widow, a trained combat female, sitting right next to me.
"Well, yeah. You see her? She needs to build muscle and I want her to get familiar with some things. And if she's enrolling in school I want her to protect herself from the teenage boys," he said with a one shoulder shrug.
"Well, don't you think she should get the chance to settle in? I mean she just got here off the plane," Steve protested. Okay.
"Hey guys, I'm right here. Unc, can I at least take a nap before we hit the training room? I'm exhausted and need one," I said. He grunted and gave a quick nod, turning back to his phone. I gave a small sigh of relief.
"We're almost there," Nat told me. I looked out the window to see the tall tower getting closer as we drove to it. Excitement started building in my body.
As we unpacked the car of my few bags, a kid a little younger than me came out the double doors. He was a little taller than me, with a lanky lean build, short brown hair, and dressed in jeans and a worn out t-shirt with a jacket. One ear bud was resting in his ear, the other hanging from the string.
"Hey Mr.Stark!" He yelled. Unc let out a sigh and turned to me.
"This is Peter. He's the kid of the team," he explained. I look at him astonished. This...this scrawny kid is a part of the team?
"Kid, this is my niece, Bella. She's gonna be living here from now on," Unc said, putting a single arm over my shoulders again. I reached out my hand and Peter grasped it.
"Oh!" I gasped. "You have a strong grip there," I joked.
"Oops," he quickly retracted his hand. "Sorry, I forget my own strength sometimes," he explained. I gave him a quick smile to show there was no harm done.
"Uh, Mr. Stark? You have a visitor and Pepper said to get you as soon as you got home. I think it's someone from S.H.I.E.L.D." He said, his voice high and nervous. Unc gave a weird sound from the back of his throat. He turned to Nat.
"Take her to her room will you? I'm gonna go see what the big guy wants."
"Sure Tony. Come on Bella, follow me," she said, leading me inside. "You boys can bring Bella's bags, can't you?" She called over her shoulder. I heard a mumble behind us but heard the ruffle of my bags. I couldn't help but giggle a little bit. She was a force of nature.
After what seemed like forever, we reached a large mahogany door.
"This is your room, Bella," she said, turning the knob and opening the door.
I stood in the doorway for a minute, just taking it in.
It was beautiful.
My room consisted of deep colors, blue, purple, and silver. My king sized bed sat in the center of the room against the wall, adorned with what seemed like 10 pillows. I walked into the room slightly, looking around. My eyes zeroed in on a bookshelf that was already mostly stocked. I walked over and trailed my fingers along the books.
Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights, Percy Jackson. The collections were a mix of both old and new, most of which I have already read, but all of my favorites were in the collection. Unc had done his research on me and my reading materials. I turned to the large drawer chest that sat at the foot of my bed, covered with intricate designs.
I walked to the chest and opened it, revealing a few essential items inside, a few blankets, spare sheets, and a book sat on top. I grabbed the book and opened it. It was a journal from Unc.
Bella, the messy scrawl on the first page read. Here's something for you to get all of your thoughts out to. Your mom said you used to love writing, I'm hoping you'll get back into it with this. I'm glad you're here, kid.
Uncle Tony(Iron Man)
I chuckled. He just couldn't help but remind me of his superhero name. I gently placed the journal back in the chest, and walked over to the closet doors. Opening them, my jaw slightly dropped.
The closet was mostly full with new clothes, and against the far wall was a collection of shoes, next to the shoes, purses and bags. What was the point of bringing my things if he was giving me all of this?! It was too much, I couldn't accept this.
I turned to Nat and saw she had a small smile on her face.
"He was really excited to have you here you know," she said. "He doesn't like us to know, but he's a big softie. He wanted to make sure you had everything you needed here."
"It's too much," I said softly. "He shouldn't have wasted so much money."
She can up to me and put a hand on my shoulder.
"He wanted to Bella," she stated. I looked around the room again, and couldn't help but feel like this was home. Yeah, it was extravagant, but it felt like I was meant to be here.
Steve and Clint helped put my bags down by my bed.
"I'm going to go see what's up with the assholes," Clint said, and strolled out of the room. Nat smiled at me before turning as well to leave. I looked at Steve and felt the familiar blush creeping up again. Damn human hormones.
He smiled at me and I kid you not my heart about fucking melted.
"Do you need anything Bella?" He asked. My mind flashed to...places it shouldn't when he asked me that. I cleared my throat. Yeah the hormones are definitely raging. Cut it out Bella.
"No, no, thank you Steve," I replied softly. "Thank you so much for helping, I really appreciate it."
"It was no problem," he smiled again. His eyes kind of twinkled, almost as if he knew what was on my mind. "Would you like some lunch?" He asked, taking a step towards the door. I perked up as my stomach let out a small growl at the mention of food.
Yeah. Definitely hungry.
"I could do with some food," I smirked back. He let out a short laugh and gestured to the door, letting me walk out first, even though I have no clue where we are going.
He placed his hand on the small of my back, leading me down the hallways to the kitchen. His hand sparked a feeling of warmth in my body.
We reached the kitchen rather quickly, and I sat down at the bar stool.
"So what on the menu, Chef Steve?" I asked jokingly. He snickered.
"Please never call me that again," he joked back. "How do you feel about grilled cheese and tomato soup?"
"Sounds perfect," my mouth watered slightly at the sound of that.
As Steve and I were joking in the kitchen, I heard heavy footsteps heading towards the kitchen. I turned as a tall, brawny man entered. He wore...interesting clothes.
"Captain," he bellowed. "Who is this?" His voice was loud, and startled me.
Steve looked at the man. "This is Bella, Tony's niece. She's living with us now, remember?" He said. "Bella, this is Thor."
I quickly stood.
"Thor? As in, God of Thunder Thor?" I asked. Thor laughed.
"Yes, Bella, God of Thunder Thor," Thor said. He reached out for a handshake and I slowly took it. I'm literally shaking hands with a God. What has my life turned into.
"It's so nice to meet you," I said. His hair was long and fell below his shoulders, his eyes a crystal blue. I couldn't help but mentally note that I liked Steve's blue eyes more.
"Likewise, dear Bella," he said in his loud voice. My heart ached slightly. He reminded me of Emmett with how loud and forward he is, and his brawny physique. My smile dropped slightly, but I forced it to stay on my face.
Suddenly, there was the sound of a plate being placed on the table. I looked to see Steve had already finished making the grilled cheese and soup for me, and went to sit. I took a bite and moaned.
"Steve," I said around the sandwich. "This? This is pure heaven." He smiled, but there was something different in this smile, and his eyes were slightly darker. What happened there?
"I'm glad you like it Bella," his voice was slightly deeper, and rougher. He cleared his throat and sat down with me. Thor sat down as well, taking the seat to my left.
"Where is the Man of Iron, Captain?" Thor asked. Steve flashed his eyes over to him.
"Tony apparently got a surprise visit from S.H.I.E.L.D. So I'm keeping Bella company while the matter is dealt with," he explained.
"What do those miscreants want?" Thor's voice rang throughout the kitchen. Steve sighed, and flashed a quick glance to me.
"I assume it would be about Miss Bella joining our team in the near future," he stated. My heart dropped slightly. Was Unc in trouble because of me?
Those clapped me on the back and my entire body jolted forward from the impact.
"Glad to hear little one! You'll love it," he said with a pearly white smile. My nerves calming slightly, I looked at Steve under my eye lashes and noticed his eyes on me as well.
Yes. I think I already do love it here.
