Chapter 4: The Storm
Disclaimer: I own nothin
The company of Fallen had gathered before Azazel and Baraqiel, all dressed in white combat suits that conformed to their bodies and provided a stark contrast to their black wings. Azazel looked them all over as they stood in formation silently, nodding to himself. "You're all to be placed at Denric Castle base, which borders our territory with the Devils. We've gotten word it's where they're going be mobilizing to attack us." The Fallen still had looked eager to fight, yet there was an anxiousness that was lingering in the air for them.
'I've been in live combat, sure but this is with supernatural entities. At least we won't be mortared or shot at-Shitfuck wait… magic.. That's right.. Who needs guns and bombs when magic can do the same damn thing but with more versatility.. I need to adapt then.' Kalawarner had thought, going over how combat was portrayed in the show with large scale battles, namely how Peerages fought. It was close enough.
Azazel continued with his briefing about what parts of the castle they'd be staying in until he got to the part where he decided who would be the company leader. To nobody's surprise, Unuriel was chosen as he walked to the front with a stoic expression that exhumed confidence. "Now for the lieutenant under your Squad leader, Unuriel here. After much deliberation, I've decided to state Kalawarner as the second-in-command over your group. Mainly due to her very interesting training methods I've observed. That is all, be ready to fly out within the hour. Dismissed" Azazel had ordered, rubbing his stubbled chin with his signature wry smirk.
'What? He was watching us? Shit.. was it that unusual? It was pretty standard for Marine PT tests' Kalawarner had thought with furrowed brows as her partner glanced over at her with confusion.
'I thought she said Azazel-sama taught her how to train like that..?' Raynare'd thought as the Fallen company got ready to leave.
-[Hours later, Denric Castle, close to Devil territory]-
After a lengthy flight, which had Kalawarner thankful she had done all that training in endurance with Raynare, Kalawarner was posted in the upper area of Denric Castle due to her status as second in command. There she stood, going over maps and gathered intel from the Fallen scouts Unuriel had sent out as soon as they arrived. Player that he was, Kalawarner had to admit he at least knew what he was doing. But then again, it's expected, they used to be soldiers of God after all, war was not entirely new to them. As Kalawarner went through the reports on the table, Unuriel walked in with a calm gait and approached her, putting his hand on her shoulder to get her attention.
"Kalawarner, right? I realize I probably made an ass of myself when we first met in the mess hall. I just wanted to apologize for that, it was unbecoming of me to try and come on to your partner. Maybe it's just my mortal sin that had caused me to fall influencing me but.. Well, still. Sorry, I still have to work on my desires. Can we start over?" He stated while rubbing the back of his head apologetically.
'Wait, mortal sin?'
"Right, no problem.. I think I'm a bit overprotective of Raynare. She's my first friend since I got here." Kalawarner said, still curious about the Mortal sin part of Unuriel's apology and thinking to herself. 'What did he mean by Mortal Sin? The seven sins of Man those famous Demons from lore were created after? I'll have to ask without sounding too ignorant about what could be common knowledge here'.
"So what's your Mortal sin? I want to get to know my Brethren I'll be working with after all." Kalawarner asked, looking at Unuriel looking out the window at the greyish-red sky of the underworld.
"Well you know.. Angels who succumb to the sins fall usually do so because of Lust or, the term Devils and us Fallen use, Luxuria. I had fallen in love with a woman from Rome.. She was beautiful, in an imperfect way. Freckles dotted her face and she had a mole under her eye. I'd say 'beauty in imperfection' suited her appearance. I loved her so much, we eventually had sex. It was….. the best thing I've ever experienced. Being intimate with her made me feel a bliss that was so damn difficult to let go of. I was eventually found out by Michael and had Fallen as a result. I didn't care as much as I should have though. The price was…. worth it.." He subtly clenched his fists as his arms lay over the window he was looking out of. His face had said it all, he remembers it very fondly. There was happiness, nostalgia and even despair and anger written across his face. Making his face pretty difficult to get a read on. It made Kalawarner think. Did she judge the playboy Fallen too harshly?
'Shit.. I have to remember, here these are real people with reasons to do what they do. Those antagonists and side characters in the show and novel all have stories and lives of their own.' Rubbing her forehead and sighing, Kalawarner walked beside Unuriel and pats his shoulder for reassurance. Perhaps she found a new friend in him. She felt how earnest he was in recounting a rather personal memory. "Sorry if that was a bit too personal, Unu. I feel like I know you a bit more now though. Guess I misjudged you huh?" Kalawarner stated while looking out the window with him. "Heh.. Unu.. Well maybe not. I am driven by Luxuria. I want to relive that first time.." That last part was said very quietly so Kalawarner wouldn't hear it.
"Hah. Yeah well just don't knock up a woman and leave her in the dust okay? Do that and oh boy… we're gonna have issues, son" She grinned and nudged his arm to get him out of his melancholic mood. It worked, as he started to laugh. "I think I'm starting to see who you really are past that stoic mask you wore when we first met, hahaha" He laughed while nudging her right back. They had started to break a few walls down and conversed as two comrades. Sadly, it was interrupted with a few screams and a Castle shaking blast. The two now adopting serious expressions as a Fallen man ran in quickly.
"Commander! A contingency of Devils are attacking the East wall! " The man reported with urgency.
"How many?" Unuriel asked
"Just over three hundred, sir!" The Fallen replied.
"Okay, bring a contingency of-"
"Wait. Are they all low-class? Do they have any equipment with them? What about crests? Which family do they belong to?" Kalawarner asked with an authoritative tone as Unuriel nodded to the Fallen foot soldier.
"There seems to be one middle-class among the others, taking the role as Commander of their group. They're in possession of a Mazoku cannon too. Standard anti-Castle weaponry for breaking down walls. The family crest looked like Saleos family. The barrier won't hold up very long and they're split evenly on both sides about two hundred meters away, ma'am" The Fallen recounted the information.
"Unuriel, you know the Fallen here well, right? I have an idea" Kalawarner had asked as she looked back out the window, seeing the three hundred Devils outside with the magic cannon in the back.
"I'm pretty familiar with everyone here, yes. What's the idea, Kala?" He asked, ready to relay orders.
"We need to take that fucking cannon out fast, the walls won't hold up with that thing blasting our asses and ruining our Base. I'd line up about 30 of our best long range soldiers up on the Castle towers and walls and have them throw their holy spears at the very front of the Devil attack group, they won't be able to hit the cannon from all the way here. The Devils will get confident and think us low on soldiers or incompetent we only put thirty of us up on the walls. I can lead an attack force of fifty coming to their right side and Raynare can lead the other fifty, coming to their left. Finally, you'll send out a hundred at the very front to engage the attack group. We'll cut their attacking force off and take out the cannon after a part of us deal with the attacking group. Sound good?"
Unuriel and the Fallen man's jaws had dropped. Kalawarner had forgot, the pincer tactic wasn't even a thing yet. What she did worry about, however, was the middle-class Devil that was surely stronger than her. Two winged Fallen were basically the equivalent of low to lower middle-class Devils, four to six winged being the equal to middle-class, six equal from middle to high, Eight being upper high-class, ten being ultimate-class and twelve being about Azazel's-class. She'd need to put her training and imagination to use to stand toe-to-toe with the middle-class. Devils were weak to holy magic, yes but Angels are also weak to the corruptive power of demonic magic Devils possessed. Though Fallen had an edge over them both, in that they weren't as affected as their purer brethren and still used holy magic.
"Damn Kala… Yes, go with that. I'll be holding this barrier up with a few others while you attack. Hurry, go get Raynare and take the help you need" Unuriel replied as he ran off to where the barrier seal was located. Kalawarner running off to get Raynare while summoning her Holy magic spear, elongating it to fit the appearance of a longer spear, resembling a certain cursed spear from a series she loved in her past life.
'If only I could rewrite causality like the original could… Eh, still looks cool though' She thought as she put her plan in motion.
-[Outside Denric Castle, on the Devils side]-
Devrin Saleos was a rising star in the Saleos Pillar. Lord Saleos himself was planning to make him his successor after the Great War's end. Him, a middle-class Devil had been treated like lesser than his peers of the other Pillars, being at the age of eighteen and still a middle-class in power was not rare, per se but the more successful and powerful Pillar heirs were all high class and thus looked down on the others not at their level of power. He was granted this chance to prove himself worthy of being promoted by the council of Devils run by the seventy two Pillars. All he had to do was wipe out this Castle and kill the disgusting Fallen inside. Though, to him, the Fallen had their good points. At least their women did. All being beautiful in their own right, after falling, they gained a certain seductive and bewitching appearance befitting a race of former angels created by the father of Heaven. He was encouraged by his fellow Heirs to bring back a few. He himself had promised his men a few turns with the least attractive ones. Him getting first pick. To him, he thought they should feel lucky, being picked as a fuck toy for a Pillar Heir. His thoughts were interrupted though, after he ordered a hundred of his men to advance while the measly thirty Fallen on top had started throwing holy spears, while he waited back with the cannon, ordering the low-class to continue fire to break the barrier. He spotted two groups of Fallen from both sides, circling and cutting off his attacking force and starting to kill them from behind as soon as they started to attack the hundred Fallen in front of the Castle. His face paling as he tried to recall his attacking force to no avail. They had just killed off his attacking force quickly, now coming straight for his leftover two hundred as a blue haired Fallen lead the charge and engaged his men with her ominous looking holy spear that cut, pierced and shredded Devils apart into a bloody pulp. Gritting his teeth, he unleashed his wings, brandished his blade, readied his magic and flew off to his enemy.
-[Kalawarner and Raynare's side, engaging the Devils]-
It was going pretty good so far for her. She circled around with Raynare, who had a particularly sexy sadistic smile while killing the low-class Devils. Normally, that would be kind of an issue but Kalawarner had heard the blatant threats of rape should they lay their weapons down and surrender to Saleos. So such expressions were justified when Raynare had cracked a Devil's skull open with the business end of her holy spear.
'At least she's having fun. I thought I'd be having difficulties in the moral department in this war.. But it's pretty fuckin' clear this is a war of extermination.. One, thankfully.. Nobody wins! As for these shitheads..' Kalawarner cut her thought off as she ducked a poorly telegraphed sword swing by a panicking Devil and thrusts her spear through his torso before flying up twenty meters and dive-bombing the closest group of Devils, cutting them through with her imitation Gae Bolg holy spear via the bladed side as Raynare kept up with her and threw holy spears into the closest Devils to her partner. 'Threaten to defile me? Psh.. Whatever. Threaten to defile my partner..? My friend? My Raynare…? I'll fucking mount your heads in the men's washrooms, YOU FUCKS…' She thought, while rolling back and swinging her spear in an arc, bisecting three Devils charging her with a furious expression in her gold eyes. She hadn't yet realized the possessive thoughts stirring in her mind regarding her partner, triggering strange signals inside her brain as she continued.
Raynare, behind Kalawarner had noticed the cold fury Kalawarner exuded when killing her way towards the cannon. Licking her lips with a seductive smile as she bore witness to her friend's brutality.
'Keep focused, me! Don't think how sexy Kala looks while crushing the demoralized Devils.. The way her breasts wobble when she..' "AHHH! NOnononono…What's wrong with me.." Raynare's thoughts drifted in a particular way, enjoying the sight of her friend's sadism. It had turned out, still unknown to Kalawarner, that Raynare was a switch. Normally sadistic to her enemies and people she hated but quite masochistic towards people she holds affection for. Her legs rubbing together as her partner eviscerated Devils with her brutal spear.
Kalawarner had advanced further, reaching the range of the cannon, throwing her spear into it and killing the operator and four more Devils in a magic explosion. Sweating as she exerted herself. 'Got ya, bitch! Now where is-' Cut off yet again, Kalawarner raised a quickly created Gae-Bolg imitation, blocking the overwhelming strength of the Saleos Heir and sliding back against the black soil of the Underworld. Feeling her hands and arms go numb from the strength of the middle-class Devil who looked none too pleased about being on the losing end of this battle. Scratch that, he looked livid.
"You Fallen stain… my PROMOTION was riding on this!" Gritting his teeth, the Heir spat out while the veins in his forehead bulged out at his wrath.
"Oh sorry we didn't let you win! From way back in the Castle all I heard was 'Oh PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE kill us oh Fallen Masters.. We just can't LIVE with our tiny ass dicks any longer! Please kill us!' Was that.. not what you said?" Kalawarner'd asked, putting her best confused expression on.
If he was livid before, he was beyond it now. Quickly using his demonic energy, he fires magic blasts at Kalawarner. Luckily for her and all Fallen, they had wings, making her options for dodging far more open than they had been when she was a human Marine. Kalawarner took flight and dodged the dangerous magic blasts. Though they did throw her off course a bit due to the explosive force itself, she successfully evaded and flew closer to him, swinging her spear fervently but the Devil was competent in his swordplay. He was also far stronger, a trait the Saleos had as a perk of being the descendant of a Pillar. Kalawarner was fighting a downhill battle and she knew it.
Dodging up in the air again, before he could throw more explosions at the Fallen, Kalawarner had focused on making smaller, knife shaped holy constructs. Costing much less magic due to their size, she conjured up a dozen and sent them flying at the Devil with greater speed than simple thrown spears. The Heir was not expecting this and thus suffered multiple piercing knives to his legs, arms and torso. Though he managed to block his head, it was still agonizing being pierced by so many small holy knives the size of butter knives. Still in his shock and agony of so many holy knives inside his body, he hadn't expected a devastating swing by the Gae-Bolg imitation spear slashing his chest open and sending him flying back into the dirt with an agonized scream. Kalawarner flying down to him fast with sweat covering her face and body, stabbing him in the chest to quickly end the fight, killing the Heir, who hadn't even had the time to counter or say anything to the Fallen.
"Fuuuuuck…. I'm tired…. My arms are sore.. Think he tore the webbing in my hand with that one attack too.." Turning back to the battle, she found it ending as the Fallen soldiers kill off the remaining stragglers and started to cheer as Raynare ran over to Kalawarner and lifted her up in a hug.
"Kala we won! The strategy worked! We beat their asses so bad their grandkids will feel the beating!" Raynare had started to rant as she bounced around with her tired partner, bodies pressed close together. Squeezing Kalawarner tightly into herself due to the excitement of winning the battle and witnessing her friend rip into Devils like a fat kid into oreos.
'Ohhhhh YEAH that's what I'm TALKIN about! Ohh.. yup.. they're sweaty too.. The feeling of her chest smooshed up into mine… Heaven. This is what Heaven truly is..' Kalawarner had gone red as a cherry while slightly laughing while thankful she didn't have her dick anymore as it would definitely be prodding Raynare right about now. Aside from the wondrous feeling only men of culture could envy, she felt pride and reassurance from the battle's outcome, hoping they'd all be going like this.
Though deep inside she had a feeling it would get complicated really soon.
