Sweet Fields of Green
by Chibimono Akuno

Luffy sat in a field of lush grass, humming to himself as he watched the clouds above. Though he loved the sea, he was just as content on dry land when the scenery was as beautiful as it was around him now. Birds quietly chirped in nearby trees, butterflies and bees fluttered about the wild flowers blossoming around him, and a gentle breeze drifted along to ruffle the grass and Luffy's dark hair as Hat hung about his neck.

Plucking a blade of grass from the ground around him, Luffy placed it between his thumbs as he pressed them together. He blew between them to cause the grass to vibrate and make a funny sound. Luffy laughed out loud, enjoying the new sound he created. He took a deep breath and blew again and again.

When Zoro found his captain, the boy was steadily blowing between peels of laughter.

"Listen, Zoro! Listen!" Luffy smiled up at his first mate. "It's a mystery sound!"

Zoro sat beside Luffy in the grass, smiling. "It sounds kinda like a duck quacking," he supplied.

Luffy laughed. "It does! It's so funny!"

Luffy blew a little tune, whatever he had been humming earlier. He even paused in his blowing to add lyrics, being mostly about meat, his nakama, or becoming the King of Pirates.

Zoro leaned back on his elbows in the grass and let his captain sing as he watched the clouds float by. It was the perfect time for a nap, but the swordsman was not quite ready to sleep yet.

"Oi, Luffy," Zoro said calmly, interrupting the rubber boy's cheerful song.

As Luffy turned to look, he was pulled down to Zoro and their lips smashed momentarily in an awkward kiss. With a chuckle, the swordsman drew back just enough to change the angle, and the clumsiness of the kiss eased into long, slow movements of sweet lips and questing tongues.

Very gently, Zoro let go of the hold he had on Luffy's shirt and lips, and laid back on the grass with his arms behind his head. Luffy just sat there dazed, with his eyes still closed, as he to make himself function. The swordsman was smiling rather smugly at the length of time it took for Luffy to get his brain to process words.

"What... was that for?" Luffy asked finally, his eyes opening just enough to look down at his first mate.

"Because," Zoro said, smiling, as the you're so damn cute went unvoiced.

After all, if he had said it out loud, Luffy would have just pouted, instead of following him down to the grass for more.
