Postcard

"Clarissa, love, we've got a postcard. From Jack and Nikki."

Clarissa looked up as Max entered the room, frowning slightly. Her husband had sounded a little off, a little shocked, and was staring down at the postcard as though he didn't have it in himself to look away. "Well?"

"Here." Max handed it over to her, writing side up. Clarissa rolled her eyes at his odd behaviour and instead chose to read the missive from her friends. Jack's writing, for she recalled his scrawl all too clearly.

Clarissa! (And Max)

Hey babes, hope you're having a great time without us; we certainly are. Kidding, you know we love you really. Anyway, Nikki said sending this to you like this was mean, but Simone (new girl) agreed with me, so it was two against one and I (Jack, obviously) won. I know, I know, there's a first time for everything. Please, just don't kill us, okay? We don't have your mortgage to think about anymore.

Lots of love,

Jack and Nikki x

Clarissa's frown deepened. It was true that Jack rarely made any sense in the first place, but the message was odd even for him. Why did Nikki think it was mean to send her the postcard? And why would she want to kill Jack and Nikki in the first place? Actually, what did her mortgage have to do with anything?

Max must have sensed her confusion as he ambled over. "Look at the front," he promoted softly, motioning for her to flip the card over. Clarissa shook her head but did as he advised, her jaw dropping open in shock immediately.

The background was clearly the Lyell's office area, unchanged from when she'd last been in there. However, in the space between her former desk and Jack and Nikki's desks were the pair who had sent her the postcard in the first place. Jack was holding Nikki round the waist and thighs, her feet dangling a good few inches off the ground. Her arms were round his neck and shoulders, and their lips were pressed firmly together, mid passionate embrace. The picture had obviously been taken without their knowledge, otherwise they'd probably not look quite so lost to the world around them.

"They… they sent that they're together on a postcard?" Clarissa choked out. "Where's my phone? I'm going to kill the pair of them."
