Darling In The Franxx Fan-Fic
Chapter 1: The Solution
Zero Two watched as the Nines left, a strong hatred towards the very ones she trained with in the beginning. It had been the next morning since the Nines had left.
"Darling..."
Hiro turned towards her, hearing the distress in her voice.
"Zero Two, is everything okay?"
She shook her head. "No... The Nines...
"The Nines are gone Zero Two."
She glared at me, concern all over her features.
"I know for sure that they will tell Papa."
"They will tell him what?"
"About the book... about Kokoro's confession... everything. I also have no doubt that should he find them a threat to the society he created..." She paused, sighing. "They will either have their memories altered or they will never be seen again."
Hiro's eyes widened. "How... How do you know that?"
"Darling... I have seen it before. There was couples in other squads when I trained with the Nines... Papa wiped their memories of one another. They felt for one another just as Kokoro and Mitsuru do."
The look of concern only deepened on Hiro's face.
Zero Two watched the man she loved. "I know that the plan for their wedding is still in action. We just need to figure out a plan, like a way we could either save their memories from being wiped or to be able to replenish them, should Papa choose to erase them."
Later that night, Hiro and Zero Two sat, going over ideas.
Grabbing at books in the study, she and Hiro quietly, but quickly sifted through all the materials... until they came across a scrap of paper behind the dictionaries.
"Huh?" Hiro asked, showing it to Zero Two.
"What is that?" She asked, grabbing the paper and sniffing it before reading the text.
To future squads, within this home, in the west wing infirmary there lies memory loss serum. Please, don't let PAPA find it. - Code 842
"There any Serums?" Zero Two wondered. "We... we have a chance?!"
"Serums?"
"Yeah... I know that once before there was a guy and a girl who created a serum that would keep their memories in tact, despite Papa wiping them out... Unfortunately they were killed in a klaxosaur battle before anything could be wiped from their memories."
Getting up in haste, Zero Two hopped up, running... or rather quickly sneaking into the in house west wing infirmary.
Looking around, she searched for any security cameras in the room before entering.
"I'm sure there has to be one vial at least."
As quietly as she could, she rummaged through the cabinets. Even though Papa had planned to destroy every vial in existence once he found about the secret creation there had to be... Surely he had missed some. Anything to save Mitsuru and Kokoro's love that she knew she wanted to save.
Almost as if answering Zero Two's prayers, in the very far back of one of the cabinets she found them! 11 lime green vials, hidden behind a false back wall.
"W-who put these here?" She whispered to herself.
"Zero Two?"
In a panic she closed her robe pockets hiding the vials. Luckily for her it was Hiro.
"Oh..." she breathed, "we will talk about it in my room."
As Zero Two left, Hiro spotted a note under the vial holder, with haste he grabbed it, pushing it into his pocket.
As they walked up the stairs, Zero Two suddenly thought about the old squad 13... Though they were told that they had died, maybe it had been for other reasons. Who else made these files and hid them? And who would have left the exact amount needed for those in this squad? Did 842 hide them in the house around the same time when all the vials had been supposedly eradicated.
Suddenly Zero Two turned around towards him, "Darling! This is important, can you please get Kokoro and Mitsuru and bring them to my room immediately?"
"Zero two?"
"Now! Please my Darling, we don't have long." She placed a kiss on my lips, "We must protect our friends."
"You're right! I'll be right back."
Running down the stairs, I looked around, seeing the place no longer being inhabited by the Nines. Sneaking, I caught Mitsuru heading to the restroom.
"Mitsuru!" I whisper, waving him over.
Confused he came over, "What's wrong, Hiro?"
"Shhh!" Hiro hushed, "We need to get Kokoro, Zero Two wants to see you two."
"What? But-"
Shaking my head, "Trust me, this is detrimental."
Without any arguing, Mitsuru nodded, "Okay, I'll get her.
Walking towards the room we secretly shared, I slowly opened it, popping my head in to see her brushing her hair.
Smiling, I placed a gentle kiss on her cheek. "Kokoro, Zero Two wants to see both of us."
"Huh? Why? Is everything okay?"
I shrugged, "I'm not sure honestly. Hiro said something about it being... detrimental. So, with that said, I'm assuming it is obviously very important."
Nodding, Kokoro smiled at me as well, placing a gentle kiss on my lips. Moaning into her lips, I wanted to take her like we had been joined together like last night.
I had never been one to think or even gesture at unusual human interaction, but Kokoro was different.
She eased something within me. She looked at me with total trust and... love.
As Hiro and I had said, this was what it was to love another. I knew I loved her, but given my nature I definitely had a hard time expressing those emotions.
Ever since the first day we piloted together and she nearly killed herself in the franxx, I knew she was strong and loyal. She was a one in a life time partner.
Taking her hand in mine, I led her out of the room, locking the door as I stuffed the key in my pocket.
"Let's go see Zero Two."
"Right."
Walking hand in hand, we made it to the very top floor, knocking gently on the oak door.
Slowly the door creaked open, Zero Two peering through the crack in the doorway.
With cautious haste, she pulled us both in quickly.
"It is just you two, right?" She asked, her gaze serious.
I nodded, gazing in the room at the claw tears in the room, witnessing her true power.
"Good, this is extremely important. This is about you two and about the nines."
Kokoro sighed, her head falling.
Remembering the things they said to her, it made my blood boil. I wanted to protect her, but at that moment, I was frozen in place. I was ashamed of myself, not being able to say anything as the Nines berated her.
"I'm sorry Kokoro." I mumbled, gripping my knees as we all sat on the floor.
"No, don't be. You've helped me in so many ways."
"You two, are so much like my darling and I, so in love." Zero Two giggled, suddenly going serious. "This... why I asked Hiro to find you two, it is hugely important."
"Of course, what is it?" Kokoro asked, looking intently at two different vials and two syringes.
"So, with the Nines... their reaction just proves to me that Papa will find out about you two. Most likely he will recognize you two as dangerous individuals, danger to the society."
"What?! All because of what I-"
"Yes. Exactly." Hiro said, looking back at Zero Two.
"So, remember the old squad 13? They had a couple in their ranks as well that got along like you two. But... but they were killed in a klaxosaur battle? Papa had arranged for their memories to be erased after the battle. But, one of the members in the group, she had created vials of a concoction that would be injected into an individual and it would stop their memories from being wiped. It would be undetectable by papa's machines. That means, they would assume they'd wiped your memories."
"Really?" I gasped, "I will be injected if that means it will save my thoughts and memories with Kokoro."
"Why not tell the others?" Kokoro asked.
"Well, I want to tell them of course, but we must wait until later, to not tip off the guard. If they don't know, the guards won't either. I'll let you two talk about it."
Zero Two and Hiro sat on her bed while Kokoro and I were looking at one another.
"Kokoro, are you okay with this? I will definitely do this."
I smiled as Kokoro gently a hand on my cheek as she looked at me, her gaze holding mine.
"Trust me Mitsuru, I love you too much to just want to forget all of this. I will get the injection. I love you, Mitsuru!"
"Kokoro..." I sighed, happy as he pulled her to him, hugging her tightly as he fell back.
Without thinking about it, I pressed my lips to hers.
Zero Two glanced to the side, smirking at her blushing Darling.
Quick to sneak a chance, she pressed her lips hard to Hiro's.
"Oh!" Kokoro blushed darkly, pulling back she sat again, facing Zero Two.
I bit my lip, trying to not show them how I felt about her in full. The rest of their romantic intimacy could only be performed alone.
"Oh such a steamy romance! It is so pure, so sweet." Pausing, Zero Two spoke again, "Now, we will have to hide this injection... somewhere the doctors there wouldn't think to look... "
"What about in the under part of the arm?" A voice came from the doorway, Ikuno standing there, her gaze distant as always.
"I-Ikuno, what are you?"
Shaking her head, she sat down with them, "Don't worry. I can keep this quiet, but that is going to be the best place to hide it... only other place you could put is if the solution could be swallowed.
"Swallowed huh?" Hiro asked himself as he reached into his pocket to pull out the scrap paper he found.
"What is that? Another note?"
"Yes, it says, 'Vial contents for memory loss recovery serum can be given as an ingestable solution"
Both Hiro and I cringed at the idea of a needle going behind the conch of their ear.
Kokoro let out a huge sigh, "That's a relief!"
She smiled as she gripped my hand.
"Let's do this Kokoro."
"Yes!" She gripped my hand harder. "I love you, Mitsuru."
"And I.. you." I murmured as we were handed the two now open vials
Hiro watched the two lovers as they held the very thing that would save their thoughts in their hands. "It does say that the first reaction of this solution can be a headache, but it said it should not last more than an hours time."
"Are you two ready?"
"Yes!" Kokoro and I said, looking towards one another again before quickly throwing back the liquid into their mouths to quickly take it down in our systems.
Their expressions were disgusted at the taste, but both knew that it would indeed protect something they most valued, their memories.
Kokoro almost immediately began to feel the effects of the serum, a headache causing her to feel fatigued.
"Are you alright Kokoro?" I asked.
Nodding, she got up slowly. "Yes, I think I'm just going to take a nap so this can wear off. You'd care to join me?"
Ikuno watched the two descend down the stairs together before turning towards her two other squad members.
"So, I must ask, why do you keep this a secret from the other squad members?" Ikuno asked.
Hiro sighed. "You know as much as I do, Zorome or Miku know how to keep quiet about this sort of thing. So I figure that as long as we get to a point where we feel safe, whether papa or the adults have taken action or not, we can still have these vials ready for the other squad members after heat comes off of Mitsuru and Kokoro."
"That is smart thinking Hiro." Smiling, she walks out the door.
"You'll keep quiet about the vials?" Zero Two asked, thankful.
"What vials?" Ikuno asked, winking before walking down the stairs.
Hiro turned to look at Zero Two as she kissed him again.
"I think we may actually have a chance Darling!"
