Hello! I'm here with my second ALTA one-shot. This takes place hours after Aang defeats the Fire Lord. I will be posting the second chapter to my other ALTA fanfiction, "The Dah Li/ Kyoshi Warrior Conflict." You can find it on my profile.
Destiny Rolls
"It was a great idea to get food."
After defeating Fire Lord Ozai and his army, Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Suki, Zuko, Mai, and Iroh decided to settle down a little and get food at a resturant. They found a table large enough for all of them to sit together.
Zuko dug in his pockets and found only a few coins. "Who's paying for everyone?"
"Everyone check your pockets!" Sokka said.
"I don't have pockets." Katara said.
Aang dug in his pockets and only found his bison whistle. Iroh searched through his own and only found a teabag.
Zuko went up to the waiter. "Sorry we don't have enough money to buy any food."
"Is that who I think it is?" Another waiter squealed.
"Oh, uh- yeah it is. I'm the new Fire Lord-" Zuko started to say.
"You're Lee from the tea shop!" the waiter exclaimed. The rest of team avatar except for Katara, and Iroh started at Zuko.
"Umm." Zuko said awkwardly.
"Since you have the Avatar with you, we'll give all of you a free meal!" The manager said.
"Really? Thanks!" Aang said. Soon they all ordered food and in a few minutes three waiters served large amounts of food for them. Sokka drooled as he looked at the egg rolls, noodles, beef, chicken and rice.
"Alright, lets eat!" Sokka exclaimed.
"Wait, I have to give an Avatar blessing." Aang said.
"Avatar blessing? Since when did you ever bless the food?" Toph questioned.
"Since now." Aang said. "I haven't sat with everyone at a table for dinner in a hundred years!"
"Are you sure?" Katara said. "I'm pretty sure at one point of time-" Katara counted her fingers silently.
"Well we have been on the run ever since Aang was defrosted and we didn't have much time to sit at a table and eat," Sokka answered. "But I don't care, I'm starving."
"Hold on, Sokka." Suki said. "Aang has to give a blessing."
"I'd like to thank Avatar Roku for giving me the advice that I needed," Aang started.
"Ugh!" Sokka groaned.
"And Avatar Kyoshi,"
"Hurry up!"
"Avatar Kuruk and Avatar Yangchen, and also Guru Pathik for helping me open my chakras, And I'd like to thank my teachers Sifu Katara and Sifu Pakku, Sifu Toph, Sifu Zuko, and Monk Gyasto,"
Everyone tuned out of what Aang was saying.
"Ok let's eat!" Iroh said, interrupting Aang. Everyone served their food and devoured it. Aang waited for everyone to serve before serving himself.
"This chicken is so good!" Zuko exclaimed. "Aang, you have to try the beef!"
"I don't eat meat." Aang replied as he started to eat rice with chopsticks.
"So how did you guys take down the entire airship fleet?" Mai asked.
Sokka didn't answer and continued chewing savagely.
"Toph?"
Toph was devouring her food twice as fast as Sokka.
"Suki?"
Suki swallowed a piece of beef whole and gobbled up her food.
"I don't think anyone wants to talk right now." Iroh said.
"What are these?" Katara asked, pointing to mini bread rolls in a small bowl.
"I don't believe it!" Aang exclaimed. "Those are destiny rolls!"
"Destiny Rolls?" Katara questioned.
"They used to serve these in fancy restaurants in the Earth Kingdom a hundred years ago." Aang explained. "I didn't know they still make these!"
Sokka grabbed one and stuffed it in his mouth. He spat it back out in a few seconds.
"Ugh!" Sokka cried. "They put paper in this!"
"It's not just paper, Sokka." Aang said. "When they make the bread rolls they put sheets of paper with writings in them. When you break it in half, the paper comes out and the words predict something that happens to you in the future or says something about you from the past.
"That sounds interesting!" Katara said as she pulled on in half. "It says that you lost a loved one when you were little." She touched her mother's necklace on her neck and nodded.
"Sokka, what does yours say?"
Sokka tried to read the slightly eaten piece of paper. "You will have no children. What?"
"Ha ha." Toph laughed.
"That can't be right." Sokka grunted. He pulled apart another roll. "Your first love passed away."
"Ok as we can see, the world is mean to Sokka." Toph said. "Let me see what this one says." Toph picked up a spring roll and ripped it in half and its contents fell into her plate. She picked up the stringy fillings inside.
"Is this a form of Braille? Do they have destiny rolls for blind people?" Toph asked.
"That's a spring roll." Mai said. Toph's gray eyes widened.
"Here." Katara handed Toph a destiny roll. Toph ripped it in half.
"What does it say?" Suki asked.
"I don't know. What's wrong with you people? I'm blind!"
Katara took a note from Toph and read it. "One of your friendships will extend into another lifetime."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Toph wondered.
Iroh cleared his throat. "I believe it means that a relationship you have with someone will continue into that person's next reincarnation. The only person here who reincarnates is Aang."
"Cool! I get to become friends with the next Avatar!" Toph said.
Suki opened a roll next. "You lead a group of powerful non-benders. That's right! The Kyoshi Warriors!"
Mai opened a destiny roll. "Most of the things you say are sarcastic." Mai shrugged. "Pretty much."
Zuko opened a roll. "You will overthrow the power of a family member." Zuko stared hard at the piece of paper. "I think I already did."
Iroh was next. "You are loved by many, even people not in this world." He stayed silent for a few seconds. "Anyone care to explain what this means?"
"I think it's your job to explain this stuff." Toph answered.
"Aang you haven't opened yours yet." Katara said.
Aang tore open a destiny roll. "You will be involved in a great battle between the forces of evil and good for the fate of the universe." Aang sighed and poked at his noodles. "I already knew and did that."
"There's still a few more left." Zuko said.
"Anyone want to trade?" Sokka asked.
Katara opened another one. "Your first grandchild will be named Jinora." Katara beamed. "Wow! These destiny rolls are cool!"
Toph opened another one. "Read this for me Katara."
"You will become one of the most powerful benders of your time." Katara read.
"Wow! You're right Katara! These destiny rolls are pretty accurate!" Toph said.
"One left, who wants it?" Aang asked.
"I think Sokka does." Katara said.
"No, it's just gonna spoil my horrible future," Sokka sobbed.
"C'mon Sokka." Suki said.
"Fine." Sokka took the last bread roll and tore it in half. He sighed and read the paper silently. He groaned and held his head in his hands. Suki took the paper for Sokka and read it out loud.
"Your life will have many hardships and struggles, mostly self-inflicted."
"I think I already know that."
Hours later, the Gaang went to the Earth Kingdom Palace where they were just hanging out. Sokka sat at a desk with a feather pen and a sheet of paper. Zuko made tea for everyone and walked around the room handing out cups of tea.
"Zuko stop moving! I'm trying to capture the moment!" Sokka said. "I wanted to do a painting, so we can remember all the good times we had together."
"That's very thoughtful of you Sokka." Katara said. She frowned. "Wait, Why did you give me Momo's ears?" She pointed at the painting.
"Those are your hair loopies!" Sokka protested.
"At least you don't look like a porcupine." Zuko said as he, Suki, and Mai joined Katara behind Sokka. "My hair's not that spiky."
"I look like a man." Mai added.
"Why did you paint me firebending?" Suki asked.
"I thought it looked more exciting that way!" Sokka said, defending his "masterpiece".
Momo flew onto the table and chirped at Sokka.
"Oh you think you can do a better job, Momo?" Sokka retorted.
Aang smiled at his friends as he went outside where Appa was snoring.
"Hey, my belly isn't that big anymore." Iroh protested. "I really trimmed down."
"Well I think you all look perfect!" Toph said. Everyone laughed at Toph except for Sokka. Katara noticed that Aang went outside and followed him. Aang was standing on the balcony looking at the orange horizon.
And you know what happens next ;).
