Naoko shifted uncomfortably at the dinner table, and Ritsuko barely giving any notice.
"So... That job you have at the Artificial Evolution Laboratories... How is it?"
Tanaka asked, as he reached for his drink.
"It's going good, I can expect my project to be fully operational in a year and a half..."
She picked at her food, anxiety rose throughout her as she yearned to go back and complete her work faster.
"Surely Tanaka would understand... Right?"
"I see, Well, you've been spending quite a bit of time at the labs. You've also missed Ritsuko's birthday, and I do certainly hope you don't miss the graduation ceremony."
Ritsuko side eyed Naoko, fully expecting her to make an empty promise and not show up again.

Ritsuko really didn't know how an all-around computer expert could aid in saving mankind from extinction. There are more important jobs that could save this planet, like Doctors, Infrastructure engineers, or even Good Leaders just to get countries out of this 2nd Impact mess.
