A/N: Chapter 5 here we go! Being on break has already been so good for my muse. The first part of this chapter is a soft M rating so beware of that. It's also my first time really going so far with writing these moments so bear with me.

Brennan laid in bed awake, her mind unable to shut down enough for her to sleep. She turned and looked at her husband who was sprawled out, lying on his stomach, one of his hands draped over her. It didn't matter how many times he shifted in his sleep, he always found a way to hold her. Brennan wasn't in the slightest irritated by it, instead, she felt loved, wanted and safe. She also knew that given everything she had been through, being kidnapped, buried alive, shot at, the nightmares that sometimes plagued her, and not to mention the things that happened to her in her youth that she confided in Booth about, it was his way of assuring himself that she was okay.

She raised the hand that was closer to him and softly threaded her fingers through his hair. Booth was naturally a light sleeper, so she kept her caress light to not wake him up. Given his time in the military and the nightmares he'd been riddled with, Booth barely slept soundly. He had once told her that the first time he ever felt safe enough to fully succumb to sleep had been that night she walked into his room at 4:47 am crying over Vincent Nigel Murray. She had pushed back and said that couldn't possibly be the case because of how much she had been crying but Booth insisted.

"Bones, I can't explain it which I know might confuse you because you like having facts and evidence but with you in my arms… I just. For the first time, I felt complete. You've always been my rock Bones; helped me stop gambling, pushed me to be a better man, you're the woman I've loved, will love for as long as I live so yeah, having you in my arms, makes me feel safe. Strong enough to go to sleep."

At that, she didn't need him to say anything else. She understood. Having struggled with nightmares her whole life, Brennan knew what he meant by 'being strong enough to sleep'. The things that replayed in her mind, the images and screams that echoed, it truly took all of her willpower to fall asleep some nights. Lying awake with him beside her now, she felt nothing but love for him. She shifted a little lower and turned on her side so she could look at him. She remembered all the times she would wonder why Booth liked looking at her while slept. Waking up to him gazing at her, not in a weird or awkward way, but with adoration on his face. His defense was that it was the only time she was ever still. Brennan smiled to herself, she could say that same thing about him. She continued lightly brushing her fingers through his hair.

She couldn't help but think about how handsome he looked, even in his sleep. His well-structured mandible, his prominent mental protuberance… Before she could stop herself, she began tracing her fingers over each bone in his body not covered by the duvet while mentally naming them.

"Hmmm… Bones?" Booth muttered groggily. His eyes blinked and opened.

"Hi," she whispered in response. "Go back to sleep, sorry I woke you."

"Hmm.. s'okay but why are you awake? Did you have a nightmare?" Booth looked at her, a little more alertly.

"No no. I didn't. I've just been thinking."

"About?"

"Us, you, me… a baby."

Booth shifted and propped up his head with one arm, the other pulling Brennan closer to him.

"You know Bones, I was serious when I said no pressure. If you're changing your mind-"

"I'm not. I'm just. I don't know Booth. I feel happy with the life we share, none of it I thought I'd ever get, and now, the thought of expanding this love…" she trailed off, a dreamy look in her eyes. Booth leaned over and rested his forehead against hers. He knew that the family they had was one she had been dreaming of for so many years. That their family meant the world to her, more than she could ever fathom which was something he knew his genius scientist didn't admit on many occasions but he could see it all in her eyes. God, he'd give her the world if it meant keeping that glow in her eyes. She leaned in and kissed him. Booth's hand that was wrapped around her trailed up her back and his fingers wound through her hair holding her head steady. Brennan sucked on his bottom lip and Booth moaned in response, opening his mouth to her.

"Oh…. Bones…. Hmmm….." He pulled her over towards him and Brennan swung her leg over him to straddle him. Brennan could feel Booth relinquishing control to her, letting her set the pace, the intensity, his arms wrapping around her to only keep her steady. The thought made her dizzy with need as she rocked against him. She broke the kiss and brought her hands up to cup his face. His eyes opened and she could see them dilating, not to mention the stirring she felt at her core from where she sat against him.

"Let's make a baby, Booth," she whispered. Booth pulled her closer to his chest, devouring her lips as his hands trailed up underneath her tank top. He ran his fingers down her spine, the sensation triggering goosebumps on her skin. Brennan took the time to run her fingers over his chest, her nails lightly scraping his bare skin. When she ran them over his nipples, he groaned and flipped them over. Her legs immediately fell open to accommodate him. His hips pressed against her and he buried his face in her neck. Kissing and nipping at her skin. Brennan leaned her head to the side giving him room and as he began sucking on the skin right behind her ear, she arched into him.

Booth could feel the heat radiating off her. Her breathing soon became little pants. He used one of his hands to trail across her side, from the side of her breast to the hem of her tank slowly pushing it up. He bunched it up, right under her breasts, and splayed his palm against her tummy. Brennan would dive into one of her anthropological lectures about alpha males and pregnancy but remembering what it was like to witness her body changing and growing their babies made him hungry for her. He slid down her body and began kissing her tummy. Lightly at first and then slowly building up a more sensual pace. Her fingers tangled in his hair holding him to her. He continued lavishing attention to her tummy for a bit longer and then slowly began pushing the tank she was wearing further up her body until she helped him throw it off.

Booth sat back and took time to bathe in her beauty. They'd been sexually involved for some years now and even though they made love frequently, he was still blown away by her beauty. He still looked at her like it was their first time. Brennan shuddered under his stare and stretched her hands out to pull him down.

"Booth… don't just look please just… oh god…" Kiss after kiss, he picked up where he had left off until he was kissing the underside of her breasts, his stubble creating the most enticing friction against her. She had once asked him if it would always be like this between them. If making love would always be so beautiful, so passionate, she wondered if she would always feel the drop in her stomach when he touched her or when they came together, that completeness she felt. She had been worried it would fade but Booth had told her their love, their history, their friendship would always make their bond strong. That it would always be like that because of the depth of their love. And as they continued to undress each other, kissing, touching, whispering their love to each other, Brennan could feel it just as strongly as she did that first time. When they came together, she gasped and held him still. Before he could ask what was wrong, she simply shook her head and whispered, "I just want to feel you for a moment."

He nodded and dropped his head against hers, their breaths mixing and soon turning into pants until being still wasn't an option anymore. They moved together in the way they had done so many times prior but the sweet tenderness of it, the magnitude of their connection still felt new. Overpowering and beautiful. Booth could feel the familiar tightening in his groin, and from the short pants from Brennan and her fingernails clutching his shoulders, he knew she was close too.

"Baby, look at me. Keep your eyes open." Booth rasped. She opened her eyes and those beautiful blue eyes, now a shade darker, stared back at him. During the first few times they'd made love, Brennan learned that Booth loved looking into her eyes when they fell and came apart. He had told her it felt like they were renewing an even stronger part of their connection every time. She agreed. Looking into his warm reassuring brown eyes, she felt grounded even as her body shook with waves of pleasure. It didn't take much longer and soon they were falling together, the intensity of their shared pleasure shaking them both as they held onto each other. He rolled over bringing her with him. Her head rested on his chest, rising with each breath he took. Her hand rested gently on his chest, legs tangled with his. Booth kissed her forehead and reached down, pulling the duvet back over them.

"You okay, Bones?"

"Hmm… perfect Booth… just perfect…" she mumbled, sleep and satisfaction evident from her tone. He chuckled and turned to look at the digital clock beside the bed.

"Well, it's early enough that we can get some sleep before the kids are up." His hand smoothed over the soft skin of her back gently, the other cradling her head as placed another kiss on her forehead and together they fell asleep for the rest of the night.

Morning came slowly at the Brennan-Booth household. Booth woke up before Brennan and spent a few minutes cuddling her before slipping out of bed to go make coffee and breakfast. He knew that prior to their late-night lovemaking, she had been up for some time. So he let her sleep a bit longer. While making breakfast, he realized that there were some things they were running low on. Normally he'd be the one to go to the grocery store but since he was trying to stay away from public spaces while waiting on his test results, Brennan would have to make this trip. He pulled out the notepad Brennan kept in one of the kitchen drawers and began writing down the things they'd need to stock up on.

Pretty soon, two little hands wrapped around his leg.

"Hey tiger, you sleep good?"

"Mmhmm." Hank nodded against Booth's leg. He put down the spatula, turned down the stove to a low setting and picked up his son. Hank was still at the age where he still wanted to be coddled and held right after he woke up. His little head rested against Booth's chest and his arms wrapped around his neck. Booth ruffled his hair lightly and kissed his forehead. It was moments like this with the kids he loved. The simple things, morning kisses, and hugs, talking to them, doing the most mundane things with them brought Booth so much happiness. He figured it was because he knew how close he had come to missing out on them over the years. After all he had done, the mistakes he had made, the wrongs he righted, it all led him to these moments.

He thought specifically about his gambling relapse and how close he had come to not being there when his son was born. Missing that moment with Parker when Rebecca was in labor was one thing and he shuddered knowing that if he hadn't stayed the course, he would have probably not been there for Brennan when she went into labor. Very early in her pregnancy with Hank, she let him point blank she was not budging on home birth. She would have the baby at home with the help of her midwife. After the barn/inn scenario with Christine, Booth didn't want them doing it a second time so he agreed. While he didn't deliver Hank, he was right there by Brennan's side. It had all been a whirlwind since her water broke at three in the morning on a Sunday but being by her side, witnessing her strength and the moment his second son was brought into this world was something he would always cherish.

Holding his son now, there was nowhere Booth would rather be.

"Christine still asleep?"

Hank nodded, "Uh-huh. I went to go see but she and mommy are still sleeping."

"Well, how about we make breakfast for them?" Hank lifted his head and nodded, a wide grin on his face. Booth and Hank set out to finish up breakfast for the girls. Hank helped pour in the chocolate chips for the pancakes and put the fruit in the big bowl for a family-sized fruit salad. Booth cooked cheesy eggs for everyone and made Brennan some of her favorite oatmeal so she could have it on the side. Hank was very proud to have been given the task of setting the table.

"Look, daddy! I did it!"

"Yeah, little tiger I see! Good job. Here, can you take the box of orange juice and set it on the table too?"

Hank nodded and did as asked. Booth dished out the food, putting the pan and dishes he used for the eggs and pancakes in the dishwasher.

"Okay tiger, go wake up Chrissy and tell her breakfast is ready but no jumping on her okay?"

"Okie Dokie!" Hank ran down the hall to get his sister. Booth only hoped he would listen and not jump on Christine like he had a habit of doing sometimes. Making sure everything was set, he went into his and Brennan's room to wake her. Walking in, he smiled. She had turned over and snuggled her face into his pillow, the duvet rising up at the end revealing one of her legs. He sat in the dip by her hips and brushed the hair from her face.

"Hey Bones," he called.

She groaned and mumbled, bringing a hand up rubbing sleep from her eyes.

"Hey beautiful," he smiled when her eyes opened.

"Hmmm, morning. What time is it?"

"Just past seven baby." Brennan stretched out and nodded, her eyes shut again for a brief moment.

"There's a surprise for you in the kitchen," Booth teased, leaning over to give her an eskimo kiss. Her eyes popped open, her eyebrow quirked up.

"I suppose you won't tell me what it is."

"Nope, which means, you gotta get up and out of bed to come and see." Booth sat up, pulling the duvet off gasping as he did. He forgot that she never put any clothes on after they made love. Brennan laughed at his blatant staring.

"See anything you like," she teased.

"Ohhh you. C'mon, we can't afford to be distracted now." He got up and walked into the bathroom grabbing her robe and plopped it on her laughing at its disgraceful fall on her. Brennan huffed and chuckled while sitting up. She swung her legs over the edge of the bed and slipped her robe on as she padded into the bathroom to wash her face and go through her morning routine. Meanwhile, in Christine's room, Hank pushed open the door and padded over to the other side of Christine's bed. He pulled himself up and poked his sister in her shoulder.

"Chrissyyy… Chrissssyyy… wakey wakey. Daddy and I made breakfast," he sang out.

Mumbling, Christine opened her eyes and squealed. Hank had put his face right up in front of hers. He smiled a toothy grin and poked her again. "Come on Chrissyyyy it's cheesy eggies and pancakes!"

"Okay, okay Hank," Christine shook her head at her brother's antics. She sat up, rubbed the sleep from her eyes and did a double-take.

"You helped Daddy with breakfast?"

"Uh-huh! I set the table and did a salad and put the juice out." Hank said proudly, toothy grin still in place. Christine seemed impressed with her brother and slid from the bed. Hank did the same and trailed behind her frog-marching her into the kitchen.

"Oooo Haaaankkk!" Christine squealed, laughing. Booth and Brennan were coming out of their room at the same moment the two of them rounded the corner. Brennan chuckled at her kids, their antics amusing her and Booth smiled seeing them joshing around. At the sight of breakfast, Brennan stood still. She turned and looked at Booth while her kids rushed to the table eager to dig into the food. She lifted a hand and placed her palm against his cheek, a silent thank you. He nodded in response and led her to her seat.

Breakfast was spent in easy conversation. Booth and Brennan running through the things she needed to pick up at the store, Christine and Hank talking about the movie they had watched the other night. After breakfast, Brennan went to get ready while Booth set Hank up in the living room with things to entertain him. He then got Christine's stuff ready for logging into school. Hank had the day off from online school today but he'd be guiding Christine through what she needed to do while Brennan went to the store.

Brennan walked out of the room twenty minutes later, casually dressed in a lilac halter top and jeans and sandals. The barest hint of makeup on, her hair down and still short. A couple of weeks into quarantine, she had trimmed her own hair since her hairdresser had been closed. Booth had then done the grocery shopping and when he came home and found her in the bathroom, scissors and haircomb at work, he'd gaped at her. It wasn't as short as she'd had at one point. Instead, it was about the same length as it was when he first met her fifteen years ago and he loved it.

"Mommy you look pretty!" Christine exclaimed looking up from the dining table.

"Aww. Thank you, sweetie."

"She's right, Bones, you look beautiful." Booth agreed. Brennan smiled and grabbed the shopping list from the kitchen counter and a mask from the box they kept there. She walked over to Hank kissing him goodbye first and then over to Booth and Christine.

"Be careful, Bones."

"Always Booth. Good luck with zoom school," she said, wrinkling her nose. Booth laughed pretty sure she was glad she wasn't the one behind the computer with Christine today. Grabbing her keys and bag, she walked towards the front door.

"If you think of anything else we may need while I'm out, call me Booth," she called out.

"Okay! Love you!"

"I love you all too. Be back soon." Brennan unlocked her car and got in. It'd been a while since she'd driven anywhere. She'd made a few trips to the Jeffersonian to pick things up and drop things off for the interns as well as Angela's. The two of them had started a monthly cake baking tradition where they'd each bake a whole cake, each did a different recipe, and then would cut half and give it to the other. They'd end up with a whole cake, just two different halves. Realizing it was now October, Brennan made a mental note to pick up some baking ingredients while she was out. There was pumpkin molasses cake she wanted to try out this month. She punched in the store's address in her car's GPS and backed out of the driveway.
