ROOM WARD
OCTOBER 1ST
3:41 PM JST
Shinji stood there with disbelief in his eyes as he watched his mother sleep in the hospital bed. She wore a hospital gown
He saw in the next bed a familiar looking beard.
His father laid unconscious in the hospital bed with a cast on the right side. The right side of his face also had some stitches.
"M-mom?... F-f-father?..."
Shinji was in utter disbelief. He walked up to Naoko's bed and held her hand. It was cold. Her face had a few scratches and bruises.
"Mom?.."
Naoko stirred a bit before waking up.
"My body hurts…"
She said, turning to see what's around her. She was hooked up to a vitals monitor, IV drip and blood bag.
"W-where am I?"
Ritsuko got up from her chair and walked over to the bed, placing a hand on the guard rail.
"You're… In the hospital. You got in a car accident while Gendo was driving. It seems a lot of people got into accidents since Balthazar was shut down. She was in charge of the City."
Naoko slowly nodded before taking Shinji's hand and stoking it.
"Is Gendo ok?"
Kaji stepped up and pointed to Gendo's arm.
"He's fine, he only has a broken arm."
Naoko let out a sigh of relief as she relaxed.
"Mom, what were you doing with Gendo last night?"
Naoko slightly twitched and looked nervous, but she soon regained composure.
"I stayed the night at his place because we stayed up late doing paperwork."
Somehow this answer seemed to satisfy Shinji as he looked almost sad.
"Say Shinji, Why don't you go bring me some lunch with Asuka and Rei?"
She asked, to try and get his mind off of this. He nodded slowly and gestured for Asuka, who was sitting nearby to follow him, and Rei followed Suit.
"Don't worry Mother, we'll get you either transferred or out of here."

"Ritsuko dear, I can't feel my leg…"
MATERNAL PROGRAMMING
EPISODE 14
"As the World caves in."
CAFETERIA
"Hey Shinji, are you ok?..."
Asuka asked, walking up to him and placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Y-Yeah… Just worried for her."
Shinji sounded shaky, and Asuka noticed this. She held onto his arm and patted him on the back.
"Ms Akagi is strong, she'll be ok…"
Rei wrapped her arm around Shinji and gave him a quick hug.
"She is alive and stable, she knows who you are, so there is no brain injury. She is ok."
. . .
Shinji smiled a small bit.
"You two are the best…"
They smiled and shared a giggle.
A trio of friends, inseparable by even the sharpest knife. After all the things that happened. They all have each other. Could he just choose one?...
This isn't important right now. Right now he needs to find something his mother will like.
The cafeteria was smaller than the one back at NERV'S hospital. Just a simple buffet for the guests and patients admitted. He grabbed a tray of White Rice and chicken, and got a cup of coffee. It wasn't made by him so it wouldn't be as good, but it will have to suffice.
HOSPITAL ROOM
Fuyutsuki and Kaji sat beside Gendo as he awoke to the sounds around him.
"Gendo… You're up…"
Fuyutsuki's voice was soft, obviously worried for his former pupil. Gendo's glasses sat on the bedside, all crumpled and broken.
"Gendo, Do you know who we are?"
Kaji asked.
Gendo slowly nodded before coughing.
"I do… Where is Naoko?..."
He looked around as he sat up, wincing at his injuries. His body was beaten from the wreck of the car accident.
He looked to his right and saw her laying down in bed crying. Misato and Ritsuko stood by her trying to comfort her.
Something was off.
The blanket was on the floor.
She only had half a left leg…
His eyes widened at the sight of this.
He tried to get up but was stopped by Kaji and Fuyutsuki.
"Gendo just calm down!"
"Please Ikari!'
"No! Let me go to her!"
He thrashed about trying to get out of bed. He fought against the pain to try and get out. Naoko took wind of this and turned to face him.
Her face was scratched and full of tears.
When she looked at him.
There was no anger.
Only sadness.
A singular tear fell from Gendo's unshielded eyes as nurses came in to sedate him. He soon fell back asleep staring at Naoko's saddened expression.
"I'm sorry Naoko…"
HALLWAY
"Hey Shinji… Do you have anyone you like?"
This question was somewhat sudden from Asuka. Shinji quickly turned his head to face her and tried to formulate a sentence.
"W-Why do you ask?..."
He managed to stammer out.
"Just curious…"
She said with a hint of mischief in her voice.
"I think I know Asuka!~"
Said Rei with a malicious tone of voice.
"Don't you dare tell her!"
"Hehe, It's obvious, He has a thing for exotic hair!"
"Shush!"
"Is it the Kirishima girl?"
"No!"
"You're hopeless Asuka."
"Shush Rei!"
. . .
"I'm guessing it's not you either…"
"Nope!"
". . ."
. . .
"Shinji, you idiot, if you liked me, you should've just asked me out already!"
Shinji was beet red.
"W-Well I-I-I-"
"Of course I'll go out with you! Together we'll be unstoppable!"
By this point Shinji was stammering out nonsensical words out of pure embarrassment. His mouth could not say anything coherent at this point.
Gee Thanks Rei. You and your big mouth.
By that point they had already reached the room again. He knocked on the door and pushed down the handle with one hand, the other hand holding the tray.
"Hey Mom, I brought back some food!"
The tray fell onto the floor.
Naoko sat in a wheelchair with her stump leg clearly visible to all.
"S-Shinji… We are just about to get transferred to NERV'S hospital…"
Naoko tried to calmly say.
Shinji's eyes widened beyond all belief. His heart was racing fast. He began to shake.
"M-mom?..."
Thud.
Shinji fell over onto the ground only being caught by Rei and Asuka.
"S-Shinji!"
Naoko began to cry again at the sight of her son in such distress.
"Can someone take them home please? I don't want him to be here for this."
Misato stood up but was cut off by Fuyutsuki.
"I'll take them home, The Captain's driving is not very good for this situation."
Fuyutsuki walked over to the trio and helped pick up Shinji.
"Let's go you two, one of you flag down a nurse and get him a wheelchair and we can take him to my car."
AKAGI RESIDENCE
SAME DAY
4:32 PM JST
Shinji's eyes fluttered open as he tried to get up. He was laying on something both hard and soft.
"ngh?"
He turned to the side and saw that Asuka was asleep next to him.
He got up and accidentally bumped his head onto hers.
Thunk
"Ow!"
. . .
"Oh, you're up. You had us worried there for a moment, Shinji. You fainted back there…"
. . .
"So it wasn't a dream?..."
. . .
"No… It wasn't…"
. . .
The soft sounds of Shinji crying could be heard throughout the house.
Mamo the cat came up onto the couch they sat on and tried to sit with him.
"N-Not now Mamo…" Shinji said, trying to shoo away the persistent cat.
The cat simply swatted away the shooing hand and laid next to the weeping boy.
"He just wants to comfort you Shinji…"
Asuka said, petting the orange tabby, which gave an appreciative purr.
A toilet flush could be heard, followed by the sounds of the sink being used. It turned off and the bathroom door opened. Footsteps came down the hall to reveal Fuyutsuki in his casual clothing.
He looks like a grandpa. He was even wearing socks and sandals.
"Ah, you two are awake already. I've already ordered some Chinese for dinner."
There was a moment of silence.
"Shinji, she will be fine. Naoko is a very resourceful woman, she will figure out what to do very quickly. Who knows, she might just make a whole new one!"

Fuyutsuki walked over and laid a hand on his shoulder.
"I'll be alright son…"
SECURE SEELE CALL
"Keel your plan has backfired greatly. Ikari and Akagi are in the hospital because of the MAGI Balthazar being offline!"
. . .
"And how does this deal with Balthazar being offline?"
. . .
"Balthazar controls the traffic system…"
. . .
"Well then that is their fault for not getting it fixed sooner. As long as this doesn't affect the scenario, it is none of my concern."
"KEEL! She lost her leg!"
. . .
"I see…"
. . .
"I must go now Jacques. I have an Important meeting."

Well this chapter is short, but I have my reasons. My writing style has kinda changed from descriptive to dialog based.
I will be posting more and more chapters soon!
