Hello! It's been a while since I've posted, I know. School and life really kicked me in the rear this past quarter and I was left with little to no time to write. But that didn't stop me from thinking of this story. Don't worry, it will be finished. I won't give up on it!
In case you need a little refresher, it's Booth's 50th birthday! And we're celebrating! This chapter does get a little steamy so I hope that makes up for my lack of updating hahaha but I do hope you enjoy it and that the scenes were written well. Without further ado, go on! Happy reading!
That night, it took Lily a little to get used to her room. Booth figured that she felt a little different now that she wasn't in the small bassinet but in a much larger bed. Her tiny whimpers filled the room every time Brennan tried to put her down. She rocked her, cooed to her, and sang to her but every time Lily felt herself being lowered into the crib, she cried.
"Maybe we should keep her with us?" Booth suggested from the sofa.
"But she needs to get used to her room Booth, she'll outgrow the bassinet at some point, and then what." Brennan kept swaying with Lily in arms. "Oh!"
"What?" Booth turned around and raised his eyebrows.
"Go get me the blanket that you had her in earlier today."
"You mean this morning?"
"Yes."
Booth wasn't sure what Brennan had planned but figured his genius wife came up with a solution. He came back with the baby blue elephant patterned blanket he had her wrapped in earlier and watched as Brennan swaddled Lily in it, keeping one arm out. He also watched as Lily snuggled into the blanket, instantly being soothed. When Brennan picked her up again, Lily's head dropped to her shoulder and her face snuggled into her neck. Booth smiled as his wife sang the gentle lullaby again and as she successfully got Lily down in the crib. She placed the baby's stuffed elephant nearby and slowly backed away.
"Well, how 'bout that?" Booth whispered.
Brennan nodded. "She's going to be okay right?" Brennan asked, now feeling a little worried about leaving her.
"Yes, Mom, she'll be fine. Now c'mon, let's leave her be." Booth gently tugged at his wife's hand and led her out of Lily's room, pulling the door slightly. They left one of the lamps that were near the sofa turned on so that there was still some light flooding the room. Brennan told him to go ahead and get himself a drink and she'd join him soon. But curiosity got the best of him and after pouring himself a glass of scotch, he wandered back down the hallway to find Brennan sneaking out of the laundry room holding a bundle of something silky in her arms.
"Bones?"
She gasped and jumped, clutching the things in her arms tighter and shoving them behind her back. "Booth, I told you to wait!" she chastised.
"What are you doing? What's that?" He peered around trying to find what was behind her back.
"You'll find out soon enough."
"Ah, c'mon Bones. What kind of secrets are you keeping from me?"
"You'll have to wait and see. Now, do you still want me to look at your back?"
"Ah, don't worry about it, Bones. I'm fine now."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm fine, baby," he reassured her. Moving around during the day had given him the chance to stretch out his back and ease the soreness in it.
Brennan raised her eyebrows. She'd worked giving Booth a massage into her plan but she could easily revert back to the original plan. But she still needed him out of the room for a bit. Squaring her shoulders, she looked up at him, "In any case, I need you to wait in the family room for me."
"Bones…" his voice held a questioning tone.
"No questions just… trust me."
Booth looked at his wife and he could see the glint of something in her eyes. He hadn't seen her sneak around all day but by process of elimination, he could only deduce that Bones was planning something for his birthday. The thought made his heart go soft. His eyes met hers and she could see that he knew. She gave him that crooked smile of hers and walked over to him, hands still behind her back.
She stood up on tiptoes, being barefoot highlighted their height difference, and gave him a soft kiss. "Go, I'll come and get you when I'm ready," she whispered, brushing her lips against his again.
"Oh Bones, I love you." Booth kissed her again and turned walking into the family room. He thought to himself that he should've known Brennan would not listen to him and plan things for his birthday. But, if he were honest, he was looking forward to what she was planning. Knowing his meticulous wife, she'd gone to great detail planning this for him. He wondered how much she'd done but knowing his wife, she'd gone all out especially since it was fiftieth.
Booth had spent much of the week thinking about his birthday. It wasn't often he let himself get caught in a train of memories but 50… that was a big one and he couldn't help but playback everything he'd been through in life thus far.
While Booth was outside nursing his scotch thinking, Brennan was doing pretty much the same. She was flitting around their bedroom getting everything ready for him. She'd taken a quick shower and dressed in the new lingerie set she bought. She'd spent hours on the boutique's website Angela sent her until she found something she loved and when she scrolled a little more and found the matching silk robe, she had to get it.
Brennan had never been self-conscious about what she wore around her husband. Booth had always loved everything she was in, even a modest black cotton bra and panty set. She'd asked him about one night after a very satisfying round of lovemaking and his response still rang out clearly in her mind: "Baby, really I don't want you to feel pressured to dress up for me. Yeah, I do love it when you do but that's never the point. When we make love, you could be wearing a garbage bag before for all I care. It's all about the connection we renew and the moments we share, the moments I spend loving your body that drives me wild. It's all you Bones, nothing more nothing less. Just you."
His reactions when she did though, was what fueled this purchase. It was also a splurge for her and in her eyes, it was a win-win. She'd grabbed the bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne they'd been saving and set it in the wine bucket chiller on his bedside table. Brennan took one last look at the setup and decided everything was perfect. She quickly grabbed the gift she wanted him to open tonight, adding it to the table by the wine glasses.
She smoothed her hands over the robe and peaked her head out the door. The TV was off and the house was rather quiet so she knew Booth would hear her. "Booth!" she whispered/yelled.
"Yeah Bones?" he called out gently. Brennan held herself back from giggling and dashed back to situate herself.
When she didn't answer him, Booth furrowed his brows and called out again. But not hearing anything that time, he got up to go check on her. He knocked quietly on the door but when she didn't open it, he pushed it open gently. His eyes all but dropped out of his head.
There was his wife, sitting propped up on their bed in nothing but silk. The bedside lamps were turned on but dimmed to the lowest setting creating a cozy and romantic feeling in the room. On his bedside table sat their wine bucket chiller, an envelope he could see was addressed to him. On Brennan's dresser, he saw a rectangular box all wrapped complete with a dark green bow on top.
Booth blinked a couple of times, almost trying to reassure himself that this was real, and walked into the room, closing the door behind him.
"Bones - I… What?"
Brennan chuckled softly at Booth's loss of words. It wasn't easy to surprise her husband so she was very proud and happy that she was able to do so this time around.
"Happy Birthday Booth," she told him softly, holding her hand out to him. Booth breathed out and walked over to his wife. His breath caught again when he caught a glimpse of the satin negligee that Brennan was wearing under the robe she had loosely tied around her waist.
"Jesus Bones…" Booth trailed off as he sat down by the edge of the bed. "Did… did you do this all for me?"
"Yes, of course, Booth. It is your birthday and I know that as much as you didn't want to make a huge fuss over it, it is your 50th birthday. Which is, by all means, a milestone. Especially given everything you've been through, I just wanted to make sure you celebrated." Brennan smiled up at him. Her hand holding his with her thumb running softly over the back of his palm. "I'm sorry it couldn't be a big celebration with all of our family and friends -"
"Oh Bones," Booth cut her off and leaned towards her, capturing her lips in a gentle yet passionate kiss. He pulled away and cradled her jaw in one hand, "This is absolutely perfect. Thank you." He leaned in and kissed her again groaning as she sat up and pressed closer to him. Wrapping her hand around his neck, Brennan pulled him even closer as she ran her other hand up to his chest. When oxygen became paramount, they pulled away from each other, resting their foreheads against the others.
"I figured we could enjoy a glass of wine before progressing to other fun activities." she raised her eyebrows playfully at him. Booth chuckled. He always loved her playful and impish side, she'd brought it out more often over the past years and it was one of the more endearing qualities he loved. Well, if he was being honest, he loved everything about her, but something about her playfulness just got to him.
He peered over her to get a better look at the wine she'd picked out. Personally, Booth was more of a scotch man but he couldn't resist the finer wines that Brennan had stocked in their little home-bar. 'Is that the-"
"Yes, it's the bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne we've been saving. I figured tonight would be a good night to open it." Brennan answered, scooting back and reaching for it and the two wine glasses. She'd kneeled up on the bed to reach it and turned her head when she heard Booth's sharp intake of his breath and groan.
She tried to hide the smirk on her face, seeing him eye her up and down hungrily. His eyes traced her body. The robe she'd purchased was body length, made of the same dark green satin as the negligee she wore but had black lace trimmings on the edges. The barely-there knot she tied had come apart and the robe draped back enough that she figured Booth could see just how short the piece underneath was.
"All in due time, now, why don't you make yourself comfortable," she told him, motioning to the bed.
Without having to be told twice, Booth reached behind him, taking off his t-shirt, leaving him in his black sweatpants. The heat was on throughout the house where he didn't have to worry about catching a draft or being too cold. Besides, the emotions he was feeling and the sight of his wife before him had him feeling a bit too heated.
"Do you wanna pop the cork Booth?" Brennan had loosened the cork just enough that it could now be popped off. Booth knew that they'd be enjoying a little too much to drink tonight.
"Not that I don't wanna indulge Bones, but the kids?"
"Hank and Christine sleep through the night and Lily's just been put down and won't wake for another five hours if she does." Brennan reached over a bit more and pulled the baby monitor from behind the bedside lamp. "If she needs us, we'll hear." She showed it to Booth as she turned slightly sitting on her heels.
Booth smiled before nodding. The thought of a night, even just a few hours alone with his wife, egging him on. "Okay, then hell yeah. Lemme pop it."
Brennan chuckled at his eagerness and passed the bottle of champagne and brought the glasses with her. Booth sat up a little higher and laughed softly as he popped open the bottle and quickly poured him and Brennan a glass. Brennan handed him his and took the bottle from him, putting it back in the chiller.
The two settled close together, both turned towards each other. Booth pulled one of her legs over his and rested an open palm on the back of her thigh. Brennan was leaning up, one hand bent on top of the pillows so she could look at him.
"Happy Birthday Booth." She raised her glass to him and in her own endearing way, she went into a small toast for him. "You know that when I first met you, I didn't believe in love or put much stock in feelings. I also thought you were very arrogant and bull-headed."
Booth laughed, his eyes completely soft, enjoying his wife's toast to him.
"But, you fascinated me in a way no one had ever done before. I felt drawn to you, to learn from you and experience things from your point of view. Then, when we became partners, I don't know if I've ever told you Booth, but it was the best thing to ever happen to me." Brennan smiled softly, reminiscing about their old days.
"You taught me that love is real, even when I didn't believe it. Even when I almost lost a chance at it." She felt Booth's hand affectionately squeeze her thigh and knew he knew what moment of their history she was referring to. "When we finally made love that first night, though the circumstances were not ideal, I wouldn't want it any other way. I knew then that I'd never find another man who I'd want in my life the way I wanted you."
Her eyes had been roaming over him and their room but she met his eyes now and saw the unshed tears welling up in them. "The life we've made together Booth, it hasn't been perfect by definition. We've had a lot of dark and hard moments. Moments where we almost lost everything. But, if I am, to be honest, I know that it has been our love for each other that has kept us going. And now, here we are, Booth." Her voice trailed off into a softer tone at that.
"Here we are… living our version of the 30, 40, or 50 years you promised we'd have. Together, happily married, with, now, four children who love us and who we love." Brennan couldn't help the small tear that rolled down her face. Booth lifted his hand briefly and wiped it from her face before returning his hand back to her leg to hold her.
Brennan took a breath before finishing her toast, "I love you, Seeley Booth, with all my metaphorical heart. More than I ever thought possible and here's to many more birthdays with you."
Unable to hold himself back anymore, Booth closed the distance between them and captured her lips in a deep kiss. It wasn't rushed or heated in the way some of their more passionate kisses started. It was honest and consuming. It was him wanting to let her know how she made him feel, how whole and complete she made him. It was soft in the way his love for her had always been but still steady and sure. It was the kind of kiss that left Brennan reeling, her toes curling. And when he pulled away, sucking on her bottom lip, she whimpered and brought her palm up from his neck where had rested it, to his jaw.
His forehead rested against hers before he pulled away slightly, "I love you Bones, with everything in me, I love you so much. Thank you." Brennan smiled and nodded her head, happy that she could have moved him with her little speech.
The two settled in, and began drinking their champagne, refilling it when necessary. For the most part, they talked quietly among themselves, recounting previous birthdays, moments from their past, sharing jokes, and planning for their future. All the while, their free hands kept roaming.
With Booth's shirt off, his perfectly sculpted chest was left bare to the touch and Brennan took full liberty in running her fingers across his acromion, down to his sternum, following his toned stomach to the top of his sweatpants and back. Booth also took liberty in running his hand down her silky smooth thigh, to the back of her knee and back up where each time he came, he inched his hands a little further up beneath her negligee.
All of their soft touches and caresses paired with one too many glasses of champagne had Booth and Brennan wired up. Deciding he'd waited enough, Booth grabbed Brennan's wine glass and his before they could refill it again, and placed them on her bedside table. He moved in closer and moved a hand to hold her jaw while the other hand on her thigh inched up palming just below her bottom. What he couldn't tell yet was that she had forgone panties and was completely bare under the negligee.
This time when he kissed her, he kissed her heatedly, swallowing her soft mewls. His tongue pushed in and when she accepted him instantly, he let out what could only be described as a growl.
Brennan's mind was foggy with desire, her body humming at her husband's possessive ministrations. But there was a small voice in her head reminding her that she had an initial plan. Hooking her leg higher up Booth's hips, Brennan managed to turn them so she was straddling him and he was laid out beneath her. She pulled away from their kiss panting and tried to catch her breath and slow down her heart rate. Booth's eyes rolled in the back of his head at the sight of his wife on top of him. Her hair was mused, and she looked plain hot.
Brennan slowly slid the robe off her shoulders and discarded it over the side of the bed.
"Jesus Christ," he muttered as he saw just how tightly the top of the dark green negligee fit Brennan. She reached up and ran her fingers through her hair as she ground herself into his center; her hot core pressed snuggled into his through his sweatpants. Booth cursed when he realized that Brennan wasn't wearing anything underneath the negligee.
Even at 45, his wife was still the hottest woman he'd ever known and Booth was beyond grateful that they still had a very active and healthy sex life. Yeah, there were nights where the two of them would fall into bed together preferring to spend the night cuddling and simply holding each other closely. But, on nights when they were both in the mood, they still followed each other's leads, oftentimes trying to win out the other through testing their stamina. Through it all though, it was the connection they shared while making love that iced the cake for the both of them.
That feeling of knowing that despite the years they had been together, they were still just as in love and in tune with each other was everything.
Brennan leaned down and captured his lips in another brief yet passionate kiss and Booth's hands tightened on her hips. Pulling away, she nipped at his bottom lip before running her lips to his ears where she huskily whispered, "Let me make love to you tonight Booth. Will you let me show you how much you mean to me and how much I love you?" She nipped at his earlobe and began trailing hot kisses down his throat, sucking lightly as she went.
Booth had to blink a couple of times to try and clear his mind but found it almost impossible at the feeling of his wife's soft lips trailing over his body. When they reached the hollow of his throat, he couldn't help but thrust hips up into her center, gripping his hands on her hips and then sliding them around to rest on the upper swell of her bottom.
"So, what's it gonna be Booth?" Brennan whispered, lifting up ever so slightly to catch his eyes. When their eyes met and Booth saw the desire in his wife's eyes, he could do nothing except give over control to her. Booth typically loved being the one on top, mostly the dominant one when they made love but he'd given control to Brennan enough times to know that the same way he left her breathless, unable to form coherent sentences or thoughts after having his way with her, she'd do the same for him.
Brennan smiled decadently, knowing that her typical alpha-male husband had relinquished control to her. She reached up and cupped his jaw kissing him tenderly, unable to stop the rush of emotions that came at her. "Thank you...I love you, Booth."
Booth trailed a hand up between her shoulder blades and pushed her into him some more. "I love you too baby," he whispered back and for the next hour and a half, there were no words uttered between the two. Brennan was completely lost in the sensations and heat of the moment making love to her husband. Booth's grunts and moans spurred her on as she went. She'd done an amazing job at keeping him on the edge, not pushing him over but winding up his body and mind until Booth couldn't take anymore.
"Ugh, Bones… baby," he groaned, pushing his back into the pillow, his hand tightening in her hair. Brennan lifted up from where she was kissing or rather sucking on him and grinned. She could see in the tightened cords in his neck and knew that her husband wouldn't be able to take much more and if she were honest, neither could she. All the while she'd been going at him, her hips twisted and she'd been squirming, bringing herself closer to the edge through loving, watching, and listening to him.
She sat up and threw off the negligee she was still wearing before going back down to sit on him, resting just above her core. Booth cursed at the feeling of her wet core resting on his stomach.
"God, Bones, I need you," he groaned out. Trying his best to not give in to his primal instincts of flipping her over and sending them both over the edge. Brennan whimpered at the feel of his toned stomach underneath her. The friction she was getting from squirming on top of him was sending her further into oblivion. Deciding to pass the reigns to him, Brennan leaned down, pressing her torso into his.
Booth's hand immediately rested on her back and brought her closer. He opened his eyes and saw just how far along his wife was too and that made him impossibly harder, knowing that while she had been taking care of him, she'd been teetering closer and closer to the edge also.
Brennan kissed along his jaw and captured his lips in a hungry kiss. "Then, take me, Booth. Right now," she panted out. Booth needed no more encouragement. He flipped them over and rested on his elbows above Brennan. Knowing her husband needed that one piece of connection before he slid into her, she opened her eyes and brought her hands up to his face. One going around his neck and the other resting on his jaw.
"Make me yours, Booth," she whispered.
"Always, baby, you're mine, always." Booth lined himself up and as he kissed her, he pressed home. Brennan threw her head back at the completeness that washed over her and Booth took the opportunity to attach his lips to her neck and reciprocate the way she'd gone at him. He kept a steady pace but as he felt the tell-tale signs of her impending orgasm, he palmed her left thigh bringing it up a bit, and set about an even deeper, harder pace bringing them both to the edge.
I hope that was okay and was a nice chapter to come back to! Currently working on the next part of the night and chapter of Booth's birthday. As always, please leave me a review, let me know what you thought of it! And thank you so much for reading!
