Part 6 - Family in Town
Around 7 am next morning, Bella woke up and saw the sight of her husband and their two boys in a chair and holding onto Mary's hand, and she smiled softly at the sight, then went to the bathroom in the room to relive herself, and get more ready for today, as the rest of the family would be soon here too to join them.
A nurse came in while she came out of the bathroom, and she said softly to the nurse;
"How is she doing today?"
"Oh Mrs Spears, well so far she has slept on during the night, we had to give her few hours ago a pain relief, as even in an induced coma, they can show signs of being in pain so we gave her some around 3 am. Since then every hour she has been ok enough to sleep on at least."
Bella nodded her head, as she said
"My paternal grandfather had one years before his passing, and it was hard on my dad and my grandma, but they made it through together, then grandma also got sick with alzheimer around the same time that granddad was getting worse again. So it took a tool on my dad rather badly."
"I am so sorry to hear that."
"Thank you, so I know what kind of things to look out for, as I remember helping him to remember few things here and there, and also to help him how to brush his hair and how he should spread the butter on his sandwich for breakfast. He was doing really well for good year or two, then he got a snap of the lung illness, and it took him after few days of struggling to breath and get help at the hospital, but he got to come home and die at home at least."
Making the nurse smile abit of this, and nodded her head, as she said
"Is that what you all may want for Mary too, or has she spoken to you if it gets that bad?"
"I think so, you should ask Michael and his siblings about it. For me, it is too hard topic to deal and talk about." Making the nurse nod her head, as Michael said
"Oh good morning. How is she doing?" The nurse repeated what she had told Bella and he nodded, then he said
"My mother and us children of hers and dad's, we did speak about it for abit, and I know if things gets bad, she wants to be at a hospice where she can get the care and need taken care of, and we found the place together for her to go if things don't go better or that she feels like she wont hold on anymore."
The nurse nodded, as she said
"I will let the doctor who has her case about this, so he knows all the details, but he would have to know about the place if he decides she could go there after re-assessments has been done after slowly waking her up again from the induced coma state she is right now in."
The two nodded, then the nurse left them, and Bella said
"Oh Mike."
He let the boys go by laying them on the couch together and held her then in his arms, and just let her cry in them for a little while. After an hour or so more, the boys were awake, and after getting some money to buy food for all of them in the cafeteria down on first floor they went off to do so, and when they came back, they had the rest of the siblings with them, and all hugs were given out around themselves.
"How is she doing?" Ryan said in worried tone, as his wife held his hand in hers, and she was clearly showing to have been in tears earlier in their drive here.
Michael repeated everything he knew so far and they all were shocked but pleased of how fast the treatments were done on their mother, and they sat around talking amongst themselves, and eating the breakfast too together, as the boys had gotten money from the others and gotten them also breakfast. After eating the breakfast, there was a knock on the door, and in came the same doctor that had been there that previous evening they came.
He did some more bloodworks, then also to see how her strength was like and she was doing alittle better, and he turned to them, and said
"In few days, we will let her get off the comatose state and wake up on her own, and see how she is doing then. But the medicines we have been given her, has helped alot more than we thought this early on at least. So it is good signs so far."
"Oh thank you, lord Jesus." Lesley said in relieved tone, as the doctor then said
"Your wife, Michael, told one of the nurses you children of Mary's had spoken about her wishes, and I want to know the place you want her to go to after she is released but still need help with her everyday things to do."
Michael nodded, then he told the doctor of the place that Mary had told him and his siblings even before their dad passed away back 2012, and he was pleased with that, and would call the place up and let them know what has happened and who it is to come to their facility.
Meanwhile the siblings and the boys of Bella and Michael went off to nearby hotel to sleep in and just rest for a while, while Bella and Michael decided to stay back and sleep here instead. Which was ok too.
Michael also called his other two children of the news, as they didnt know what had happened even, and they were shocked and sadden to hear what had happened to their grandma, and their mother also was shocked, and told both of them that she was more than happy to help out whatever way she could for them.
That made them rather pleased, and Bella also spoke to Jasmine and Noah to not only thank them for their thoughtful gifts but also hear their voices. And after hanging up, the doctor and same nurse as before came in and they took another look and exam of Mary, then the doctor said
"Tomorrow will be the day to take her off the medication to be sedated, and see as time goes on when or if she wakes up, and see how she is doing in awake state too."
Both nodded, and shared a hopeful look to each other. Bella texted the others of the news, and knew they would see it later when awake again. Meanwhile they got lunch in the cafeteria and ate it heartly, then took another nap together on the couch in the room, despite how cramped and uncomfortable it was, they did so for now. Would get to the hotel later and let the others sit too.
