September 5, 1939~Two Days After England Declared War on Germany

It was a quiet day in the States.

Despite the recent state of war that was now shrouding Europe in chaos, the American people went on with their lives.

But when evening came, the sound of static filled every American home as radio were tuned in to hear an important announcement.

One that was to be delivered from President Roosevelt himself.

One family in particular in Idaho would be greatly affected by the ripple affect the announcement would cause.

The Maverick Family, which consisted of Winston, his wife Eve, and there two daughters, Twenty-year-old Kate, and seventeen-year-old Lilly, the three females listening intently to the static as the Patriarch fiddled with the dial.

Soon, the static gave way to a voice.

"This just in from the NBC News Network in Washington D.C.

In just a few moments, the President will issue a statement regarding the recent declaration of war by England and her allies, against the Nazi Regime and other parties of the Axis Powers."

The family looked nervously at each other, wondering if the President would back down on his stance of neutrality.

Their contemplation was quickly brought to end as a new voice sounded over the radio.

"Live from Congress, President Roosevelt is preparing to address the nation."

Soon, the voice of Franklin Delano Roosevelt was heard throughout the country.

"Mr. Vice-President, Mr. Speaker, and members of the House and Congress. As we are all well aware, in the past four days, a terrible atrocity has been committed. Without a formal declaration of war, German troops under the direction of the Nazi High Command, launched a full incursion on the nation of Poland."

Distant mumbling could be heard through the radio speakers before being cut off by the President.

"Since then, a state of war has existed between our English Allies and the Axis Powers. Rest assured, despite promise to our allies that we will provide all necessary aid that is permitted, I shall reassert our stance of neutrality."

As cheers were heard through the radio, the Maverick family let out a sigh of relief at the news that their country would not be drawn into another war.

"However,"

This put their relief to a stop.

"That does not mean we must leave ourselves defenseless. Earlier this afternoon, I met with my top military advisors to discuss possible means by which to strengthen our security. With great deliberation, we have to come tot the conclusion that our armed forces will need all the help they can get."

This truly caught the family's attention, wondering what the president meant.

"With that, I hereby announce the establishment of the W.F.C.

The Women's Fighting Corps."

The eyes of the entire Maverick family grew to the size of hen's eggs, smiles slowly forming on their faces as the President's closing statements led to thunderous applause.

"This will allow women to enlist in combat positions, be they air, land, or sea, in the United States Armed Services...
