Agmundr is mid-fight with Agatha out on the archery course under Natasha's supervision. His sister takes her shot, set to nail the target dead center.
Agmundr takes the opportunity to twitch his head and rotates the target just enough so that his sister will miss completely.
Natasha's eyebrow lifts. Agmundr clearly has more tricks up his sleeve than just the occasional electric spark.
"Keep cheating with magic Agmundr. I'll tell your father where you learned that."
He glares, "My dead Grandma showed us magic and left us books so that we can learn!"
"Sure," Natasha crosses her arms.
"You're mean!"
"So mean."
"Skill training is boring!"
Agatha screams over a tap, "Ahhh! He pushed me!"
Natasha glares, "Agmundr! Hands to ourselves! Apologize to your sister."
Agatha throws her bow in a screaming hissy fit. She's loud enough for her fox to be concerned.
Natasha rolls her eyes, "Now what's wrong?"
Alex whimpers with a cry and hides his face under his paws once the rain starts, the sun quickly vanishing behind a few dark clouds.
Natasha's motherly side comes out when she chastises Agatha next, "Screaming won't get you your way. So dry your tears, stop with the storm clouds, and keep working. You still have textbooks to read and tests to take."
"No!" Agatha continues to throw her fit.
Thor comes strolling over to the field with a wide smile, "Do tell me who started that glorious storm."
Suddenly the tears stop and so does the light drizzle. Agatha smiles;
"Daddy!"
He scoops her up into his arms, "Yes! I knew that was my small princess. Well done!"
Agmundr's jaw shifts with jealousy and Natasha takes note.
"Agmundr,' Thor looks up, 'how are you my son? What have you been working on?"
The boy shrugs, staring at the ground, "Nothing."
"Nothing? Oh come now. I saw your arrows hit the target! You are practicing so well," Thor laughs and puts Agatha down, moving to tickle his fussy son.
Agmundr giggles despite the protests not to, scooped up next;
"Dad!"
"Me next! Me next!" Agatha jumps at his feet, wanting to be spun and tickled.
Natasha smiles next, backing up to the nearby tent area to leave the demigod playing with his children.
Natasha enters with a huff and a heavy sigh that follows. She tears the tie from the end of her braid and lets her strands fall, painfully running a hand through her hair to loosen the tension.
She tries to check her shoulder blade by turning her head as far as she can to the right and sighs again;
"Vrach? When you get a chance I need a patch job. I was sparring with the girls."
Bruce barely acknowledges her with a distant focus, preoccupied with finishing her meal. He finally turns to her and lets a disappointed sound at seeing her bloodied shoulder;
"Sif?"
"And Valkyrie."
He checks her gash, mind elsewhere, "Natasha? Where did you get the box on your side of the bed? Bottom drawer of your...nightstand- I guess-."
She forces a laugh, reaching to hold a towel against her injury, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"The green one. With the gold trim on the sides."
Natasha swallows and drops her hand, checking the blood on the towel. Bruce moves closer and nods to the chair for her to sit while he searches for his medical kit;
"I wish you'd stop trying to hide things from me. I always find out."
He's a little rougher with her than expected.
She grunts and pushes him away, "You're hurting me."
He immediately retracts his hands apologetically, "Sorry. I have to clean it."
"It's that bad?"
"You took on a bunch of Gods, again. What did you expect?"
She groans with a head rub, "You opened the box, didn't you?"
"Yeah, obviously. Everything was glowing which gave me Tesseract flashbacks, so I shut it," he shrugs casually.
"Why would you go through the box without asking me first?"
"…Okay. I'm sorry, I should've asked," he forces a quick laugh next.
Natasha tries to relax. She cringes, "I'll fill you one once you put that weapon away."
"You're worried I'm going to Hulk out."
"I'm not."
"Liar."
"I'm worried you'll tell Thor."
Banner's eyes widen, trying to stay gentle with her flesh;
"This just gets better, doesn't it?"
Natasha bites her lip over his last suture into her shoulder. She makes her remark with no emotion;
"Loki is plotting an escape by using old fashioned magic, Agmundr, and that box of Asgardian objects."
Bruce freezes, a hand over his medical box, "Uh huh."
"Norn stones,' she lifts her vest up and over, swapping out her top, 'I have a library run to make and a demigod to troll."
Banner chokes on his breath, "Is that all? And you're hiding all of this from Thor? ...Loki. What? Hang on. Rewind…"
She nods, "Agmundr has been disappearing to see Loki at the prison at least once a week."
"Yes."
"On his off days, he's searching for and stashing objects Loki wants him to find; that's what the box is for."
Bruce grunts, sitting back and scratches his forehead, "Why…?"
"Loki wants out and he's using Agmundr to do it," she repeats herself.
"And you won't tell Thor because…?"
"Technically, this is out of my jurisdiction, and I'm...sneaking around to get intel. So are my spies."
"You're the head of the spy program, can't you do it the right way?"
Natasha scoffs, "Yeah, sure! Let me put in a request to observe the most distrusted figure in all of Asgard."
"Agmundr could be in danger. You saw Clint after everything."
"It's different. Loki likes Agmundr. And I'm pretty sure Loki wants me to sound the alarms. I refuse to play his game."
"What's in the box? What are these stones you're talking about?"
"The box has,' she moves to her plate, 'think of mini tesseracts on steroids- where's your plate?"
"And you thought bringing some of the most dangerous magical objects into the home of the Hulk would be the safest option," he mumbles.
"I need time to study them- aren't you hungry?"
He pushes up against his hands to stand, "I thought the whole point of leaving Earth was to start over? Stay away from other people's problems, other people's kids...meddling gets us in trouble- that's what you said."
Natasha bites her food slowly, eyes distant, "I know believe me, and I should have told you but..I have to help. And this is how I can help."
"I thought you helped by joining their army thing. That's why you wanted to be a warrior-."
"The points are connected."
He sighs, a nervous grim over his face while he thinks out loud, "If you so badly want to get back in the field, if you want a mission-."
"No." She snaps sharply and turns around, taking her plate in with her to the other room. She knows what he's about to say and Natasha has no interest in hearing it.
"Tasha-."
"Don't do that."
"Do what…?"
"The 'Tasha' thing. With that voice…You're sad. Why are you sad?"
"Full transparency?" He grips the back of his neck, his eyes glossing over.
"Please, yes."
"I had a dream about the kids last night."
Natasha chews aggressively and wishes her noodles were hard enough to crunch. She nods stoically, standing with her plate;
"-Jen and the Avengers can handle anything that comes up just fine."
He's unimpressed, squirming uncomfortably, "Can they? I…feel like the hulk and I could do good-."
"Because you're getting used to Asgard,' She puts her plate down and circles back to him, 'this is my fault, isn't it? I brought up the kids and now you're worried about them. Missing your cousin?"
Natasha reaches to run her hands over his tense shoulders.
He mumbles, "It's just that my brain is feeling useless here. The lab's not the same. The science is more like..magic, which I hate and love at the same time."
"Midlife crisis already?" She smirks, trying to pull out his sarcasm.
"Watch it," he taps her nose with his finger, making her scrunch her face adorably, "Everyone finally loves the Hulk. He's calm for once and that's great. You and I have each other and there's a peace I haven't felt in...well forever. But my contributions are feeling...eh."
She drapes her arms around him, "No one in that Science Facility thinks that what you have to share is mediocre. I promise you. Jane is constantly singing your praises."
He shrugs, kissing her cheek.
She exhales heavily, mind racing, "Help me figure out what Loki has been hoarding and we'll figure out what to do with that insatiable brain of yours after."
"Okay. And I can't tell Thor?"
"No. Not yet."
Bruce hums, trying not to melt over her rubbing his neck, "You're still meddling."
She shrugs, giving his hair a tug, "This one is for family. Hopefully to stop our friends from falling apart. To maybe stop Agmundr from turning into a Loki 2.0? Save Asgard in the process."
"What's next?"
"I have to research the box contents."
"The stones."
"Yes."
Bruce rolls his eyes, stepping away to grab his jacket.
She rolls her own, "Where are you going?"
"You said we had a library trip to make?"
Natasha nods and grabs a hooded overcoat of her own, "Loki told me-."
"-Oh good! Recommendations by Loki," Bruce rubs his hands together sarcastically.
Natasha grins and heads for the heavy barricade, "Come on Vrach."
He reaches back to capture her hand, interlocking their fingers with a nod and one more sigh, "You're killing me."
"Don't tempt me."
Darcy and Brody traipse into the SHIELD jet with scraps in their hands and unreadable matching expressions.
"So," Darcy starts.
Brody sighs, "We have some good news; Darcy's tech isn't completely irreparable."
Darcy cringes, "The parts are out of stock, but we can create our own?"
Riley throws her first into the table, growing frustrated, "Izabella could suck it up and just warp us to Asgard."
Brody snaps with a hand on Izabella's shoulder and raises his voice to Riley, "Don't direct your rage toward my sister."
"HYDRA is coming for the Avengers in New York! I don't have time to wait for parts and mess with equipment we're not sure will work!"
"Even if I wanted to send us to Asgard, I can't," Izabella is triggered, her eyes wide.
Garrett is ready to hide and Darcy is suddenly cringing.
Lucy shrugs, "..technically, sounds easier than a dimension-."
"Asgard?! No, it's not,' she corrects her brother, 'It's- It's another world! It's a whole...city of demigods and it's just different- I can't."
"You warped to Planet Hulk-." Lucy laughs.
"That was an accident!"
"Your point is?' Lucy crosses her arms, 'I think you just don't want to help us. Not that I'm complaining, don't get me wrong. I think your powers are demonic."
"Do not start shluha vokzal'naja!"
Brody turns red over her choice of words to their friend, "Woah, easy."
Lucy shrugs, "It's fine, I have no idea what she said."
Izabella points to herself with a snap, "I'm right here, Lucy! Talk to me, not about me!"
"I'll talk to you," Riley shouts over the bickering team.
Garrett gracefully steps back and keeps Antonia back to stand clear of a visibly angry Riley.
"Waiting for Thor to get some signal is not working. We'll be stuck here for a month. And we still don't have volunteers, right Garrett?"
He stammers, "Amelia is out, Kat hung up on me, twice, your mom's friend, Agent May? She's out. I could try my dad again, but I wanna keep my head where it is; On my shoulders. Jessie Walker...well...she's not coming."
Garrett tucks his head. When Riley sets her mind to something, she needs it done immediately and there is no good way of trying to talk her down.
Darcy points timidly, subtly fearing for her life, "We can poke the pretty boy and see if he gets all big and green. Then at least you'd have a Hulk."
"I volunteer,' Lucy stands and shakes out her hands, 'Let's go Ricky, fight me!"
Rick scoffs without changing his blank expression, suddenly regretting coming along, "I'm not going to fight you."
"Why?! Worried you're gonna lose?"
He takes a few steps back, "I'm not going to fight you! Geez!"
Riley shouts again, "Linda is going to show back up in New York and we can't do a goddamn thing! I can't save my Mom if HYDRA tries anything because I'm stuck out here with you morons!"
Garrett braves the space in between them and holds his hand over shoulder, "We're all stressed out. You're not the only one with parents to worry about. My dad wears a target on his back. Literally."
"We could have Thor here, on Earth, already. We could have help from Asgard, if this one,' Riley points in the direction she believes Izabella to be in, off by a few feet, 'could suck it up and help!"
"A few inches on your left, Riley," Antonia corrects her, beaming at the older girl. Lucy snorts.
"I can't," Izabella protests, weakly.
Riley answers firmly, "You can! Lucy is right, you just don't want to. You're afraid. Scared. I feel it! You're too afraid to even try. Because you're worried about failing. Guess what Izzy?! If you don't try; You've already failed. If I stopped trying to get on with life when I went blind…"
"I do not want to hurt anyone, ever again."
"We've heard that excuse a million times before. But that's still what it is; an excuse," Riley gestures dramatically, "Do you remember when I first met you? That hell- in Blonsky's-frickin-basement. You were so scared, we all were, but we figured it out because we worked together. You trained with the Avengers and they saw something in you- in your abilities. Something powerful and good. Emphasis on the good. You were born with these weird abilities for a reason. But if you can't use your powers for good, if you really think they're a curse, somehow worse than Lucy's red zone-."
Jameson lifts a hand to defend herself but automatically retreats. Riley isn't wrong and she's not done talking;
"...then...I don't know, maybe you should cut off your hands and give them to someone else who is brave enough to use them."
"I would if I could!"
"Don't talk to Izabella like that," Rick scolds. Brody looks impressed.
Riley doesn't budge, "She's Russian, she can take it. Do it for Natasha, Izzy. I need you. Our parents need you so do it for them. HYDRA won't wait for us to assemble a team. They'll attack us while we're vulnerable."
Izabella swallows the lump in her throat, looking Riley directly in her eyes. Even if Riley can't look back, she can feel the attentive response, getting the reaction she wants out of her friend.
When Izzy and Riley both stay silent for more than five minutes, the team pivots.
With the wiggling of her fingers, Izabella takes a breath and tries to focus on an immediate bubble while everyone else is distracted. She tries to calm her heart and brushes her fingers against her palms. The bubble disappears and she drops her hands to her sides.
Izabella circles the space one more time, looks up at the ceiling and takes a deeper inhale, back to lifting her fingers.
Antonia is the first one aware of the misty green energy that starts to surround her friend, "That's so cool!"
"Oh, shit," Rick gently pushes Lucy away from blocking his view, fixating on Izabella."
The Jameson girl is immediately disturbed once she realizes what has been going on behind her back and Riley tilts her head over the energy change she can suddenly feel in the room and around her.
Izabella exhales and focuses hard, lifting her palms to contain and expand the circle of energy she hasn't dared to use in years.
The one brave enough to step forward is Brody, "What are you doin'?"
She can't respond, far too busy concentrating, the green reflecting off of her face. Her mouth quirks up to a half smile, growing her energy steadily. It feels far too good to free a small part of herself to stop when the phone starts to ring.
Garrett lifts the device and looks up with fear. Riley immediately reads his mind and reaches to try and find his hand;
"Don't answer that!"
Izabella is panting heavily when she expands her fingers, studying her energy intently, amusing herself with a somewhat new ability, "...voakh."
"What?! What's going on?" Riley asks greedily, too hesitant to breach Izabella's mind at the moment should it throw her friend off.
"Guys?" Garrett lifts the device again, lowering the volume over a second call.
Izabella smiles, her eyes light up over her visual she shares through a soft voice, "I think, I can see a city...A colorful path…like a bridge."
"Izabella Natalia Mikhailov!"
Tony Stark's pure rage comes through the jet's visual communication system, his voice loud enough to rattle all of the kids.
"That's not my middle name." Izabella murmurs halfheartedly, her gaze breaking from her hands as the energy stops and she holds them behind her back.
Riley blames Garrett, "Why would you answer that?"
The Barton boy shakes his head, "I didn't! Breach my mind!"
"You know, I'd like to not have to?! It would be really nice if I could just trust everyone to always be honest, seriously."
"Same here Miss Riley Park-Proctor-Hill! What were you thinking, Izabella?! You broke our deal!" Tony's angry face shows up on the front monitor.
Darcy whines. Based on Antonia Stark's reaction Lewis has a right to be scared.
Brody looks down accidentally, his eyes fixating on how Izabella has a hand behind her back, fingers twitching slightly. He hasn't the faintest idea what is about to happen, only an odd feeling that it can't be good;
"You're interrupting the mission Mr. Stark."
Tony only yells louder, "Using your powers was never a part of the plan, Izabella! You know what I have on that ship and they're locked and loaded on you!"
"Bombs?!" Darcy panics, looking around frantically.
"I have NO problem sending out the Iron Legion to handcuff those pretty hands."
"Dad! Izzy can do magic with her hands, it's really cool! Why are you mad at her?!" Antonia suddenly pops up, standing on her tiptoes to be face to face with her father.
Brody tries his best to explain, "We're so sorry, Mr. Stark, it won't happen again, I promise. Things got a little intense over here since Darcy's machine broke down and Izzy was just trying to-."
"Well stop trying!" Tony yells, "I mean it! We need backup but not at the expense of my daughter-."
"You're right, Tony, my powers are dangerous," Izabella starts.
"Yes! Exactly."
"And if I use them it should be alone."
"Precisely."
"Izzy…" Brody glares suspicious over his sister's verbiage.
"I'm sorry," Izabella mumbles apologetically.
"No-!"
Brody is smacked down by a gust of wind when Izabella whips her hand forward to encapsulate herself into a bright green bubble, pushing through despite the pain in her fingers and the blood spilling from her ears.
The power goes off and thus removes Tony from the screen. The sudden absence of light turns world green.
"Oh no, you don't," Riley, having already breached Izzy's mind, manages to force her way into Izabella's green misty bubble, grabbing at her arm.
Garrett tries to stop her, pushed by Antonia, who breaks from Darcy's hold.
"Anna!" Lucy runs in a panic after her.
Darcy falls backward against the jet, watching the green completely evaporate half of their team.
"Shit," she whispers, too shocked to get up.
Garrett looks up with a pain in his stare, "Where the hell are they? Brody?! What did she just do? Riley! Bring her back-!"
"Easy!" Rick tries to restrain Garrett in his panic.
"Damn you, Izzy!" Brody mumbles, rattled and concerned for his sister. With his temper flaring he focuses towards a nearby wall and lets the lasers burst from his eyes to tear apart his side of the jet.
