chapter 4
As Luffy walked with Coby and the brown-haired girl (whose name was Rika), the straw-hated boy could not help but grin as he starts to think about an old promise he gave his gramps a year or so before he left dawn island and how he was now starting to fulfill the first part of it.
/ flashback /
Luffy was in the middle of the woods and was just about to start eating his latest hunt next to a campfire when out of nowhere, Luffy's grampa, the marine hero Garp, came out of the woods. "Luffy, it is time you became a marine. I let slip into the world of piracy but I will not let you!"
"Wait, gramps," Luffy stated in a panic. "I can't be a marine!" Garp sneered at his grandson and yelled/asked "Oh and why is that?!" Luffy looked at his gramps with a really dark, yet somewhat sad look. "Because that would mean I have to work for those world nobles, right?" Garp looked stunned that Luffy would have come up with such a good point. Thinking for a moment, Garp said "Fine, you can become a pirate, but you must keep one promise to me and do it before you have your first bounty. Got it?!" Luffy was stunned that gramps was letting him be a pirate and was curious about what kind of promise he would need to keep.
"You need to find three corrupted marines and beat them. And Second, you must find some men to train in your place. Got it?" Garp explained, and all the straw-hated teen could do was nod.
Luffy then asked if there were any tricks he could learn to help him. Garp was against it at first, but then figured it would be a good excuse to train Luffy without him running away.
/flashback end/
Shaking out of his remembering, he, Coby, and rika had reached the tavern that rika's mom-owned. She started telling them about how Zoro had killed Helmempo's pet wolf after it had tried to attack her. The mood quickly changed, however, as the town brat, Helmempo himself, was in the bar laughing about how he was going to kill Zoro, only for him to pass out. For some odd reason, the only ones to notice that Luffy was glaring at the brat were Coby and an orange hair girl. The straw-hated boy then started to walk over to Hellmempo. He kicked the brat right through a window in the bar' and then said with determination, "Today Zoro joins my crew!" Luffy began to walk outside of the tavern when Coby came behind him. Coby began yelling at him to not raid the base, only for Luffy to turn and look at him and say, "Are these the kind of people you wish to join Coby,? If not then follow me!", before turning around and starting to walk to the Marine base, leaving a stunned pink-haired boy behind.
