A/N: So, this is a rather rare crossover, and one night I thought, why not? Most Yu-Gi-Oh fics I've seen aren't that good from a gameplay perspective, as they usually focus more on the anime aspect, but the actual game takes a hit, which is fine, but as someone with a lot of experience with the real game, both competitive and casual, I feel like I could write a fic that actually uses the real rules of the card game. Don't get me wrong, characters won't be playing optimally, with every single best card, simply because I don't think having a fanfic about "who opened enough handtraps to stop their opponent from setting up their 14 negate board, but still have enough combo pieces to otk on their turn," to be very fun. But it also annoys me when I see characters summoning 1200 vanillas, and having that be an "amazing move", and when they write stuff about the game that's just flat out wrong or not how the game works. So I aim to write in that middle ground, and I hope I manage to do it. But that's all the Yu-Gi-Oh side of things, so why Miraculous. Its simple, I've been thinking about writing a Miraculous "fix-it fic" and decided to combine the two. Please note, not everything will transfer over 100% with between the source material and this fic. With that rather extensive AN out of the way, which I'm pretty sure most people will skip, I won't waste any more of your time

Tales of the Duel Spirits
Game 1: Let the Games Begin
Black, pitch black as far as the eye could see. Nothingness filled the void, completely absent of light, or any sign of life, with a deafening silence persisting amongst the darkness.
"This is the origin of the world: this void, a chasm of darkness and silence and emptiness." A voice pierced through the silence, the voice of a young boy, though sophisticated and soft spoken. "And what the world would remain until Them, until They intervened. The Gods, from Their realm above, granted this dark abyss the gift of light, and from that light came everything."
A small spark of white light could be seen, contrasting greatly against the nothingness surrounding it. That light grew, and grew, and continue to grew until not a speck of black remained, and was replaced by white. The light began shrinking in on itself, until it was once again a small speck of white amongst the sea of black. And once again it grew, exploding into light, now with multiple colors. This process of light fading and exploding forth continued, over and over and over again. Until, emerging from that light was land, and trees, and seas, and...
"And from that everything, life emerged, brought about in this world of light: Humans and animals and even, monsters."
Tribes of people can be seen roaming the land, animals hunting and being hunted, and monsters traversing treacherous landscapes.
"And yet, in this world of light, life was born in equal parts of darkness."
Villages torn apart by war between humans, animals hunted into extinction, monsters ambushing tribes and slaughtering every man and woman. A single child cries out amongst the sea of carnage, for a mother laying next to them, cold and unmoving.
"The Gods, horrified at Their creations, turned away Their light, leaving the world in darkness once again. And so, in this eclipse of light, monsters grew in strength, while humans and animals grew weaker."
A large monster could be seen terrorizing a village, its people powerless against the fiend. Several more could be seen laughing as they separated mother and child, sowing chaos and despair with their very footsteps. A group of monsters stumbled upon a battlefield, a war between two human nations, and used the confusion to run wild to their hearts content. One ran for a wounded soldier, who tried their hardest to crawl away. As the monster was about to strike the downed soldier, a blade came down and vanquished the monster. A hand reached down, and the soldier gazed upon their savior, a soldier from the other side. Taking the outstretched hand, the soldier looked around the battlefield, and saw the same thing: treaties forming in the heat of battle; enemies becoming brothers-in-arms; and soldiers once fighting against one another, now standing back to back, fending off the monstrous menace.
"In the absence of light, bonds were forged in fire and sealed in blood. Once feuding nations became allies as they fought back against their common enemy, even the animals joined the humans in their fight against the monsters. In this world of dark, life was born in equal parts of light."
Monsters could be seen fleeing from pursuers, no longer able to cause chaos amongst the humans and animals, now united in a common cause.
"You keep speaking of this, but what importance does it make? Why waste my time with this bedtime story?" A different voice interrupted. An older, colder voice, devoid of any semblance of emotion.
"Patience my friend, you will understand in due time. Now, where was I? Oh, yes."
A small group of humans were surrounded on all sides by monsters. Battered and bruised, they stood their ground, and prepared to charge, their final pursuit. As they advanced, perhaps the most unexpected event happened, a ray of light descended from the dark clouds above.
"For the first time in ages, this world of darkness was bathed in light. And yet, unlike before, the monsters cowered away from the light, fearing its bright radiance, clinging to the shades of darkness, and the power they drew from it. The Gods, who once abandoned this world, grew impressed with the efforts of the humans and animals, and gave only them the gift of light. But that wasn't enough for the Gods, and they split the world into different parts, separating the humans and animals from the monsters, and separated the monsters even further, secluding them into their own worlds."
The unfamiliar land was replaced with Earth in the modern day.
"This is your world, the Gods' gift to the humans and animals, free from the monsters, now long forgotten in the many worlds of darkness. But, the worlds could never be separated, not truly. And so monsters and humans alike found ways to cross into other worlds. This is how we are communicating like this."
"Fascinating, but I still don't see how this relates to me."
"Mmm? I suppose I've beat around the bush for long enough. I am a creature of darkness, but I'm also a seeker of knowledge. Your world of light has fascinated me, and I wish to see more of it. Not only that, I wish to see the Realm of the Gods, to experience the divine power of our creators. As another seeker of knowledge, you should feel the same. After all, you've been seeking out the worlds of darkness long before I've contacted you."
"And look where that's gotten me. Had you contacted me a few years earlier, of even a few months, I might've accepted. But I no longer have any desire for the world of darkness, nor to experience the Gods' Realm. Leave me!" Footsteps could be heard as the older voice began walking away.
"And if I can grant you the Gods' power?"
The footsteps stopped, and the older voice said, "...I'm listening."
"With the power of the Gods, you could rewrite the very fabric of your reality, down to the laws binding your world together! You could invert gravity! Create matter from nothing! You could even rewrite the past! The Gods are limitless, everything bends to their whim." The younger voice, which once spoke in a calm and even manner, exploded into a flurry of emotions: joy, excitement, wonder, all mingling together.
"Hmmm, an interesting proposal. Unfortunately, I don't make deals with others without knowing their name, otherworldly or otherwise."
"Of course, my name is Aleister, and yours?"
"My name is-"

A piercing screech interrupted the peaceful dreams of a slumbering figure. A hand reached out from underneath covers towards the source of the noise, a phone resting on the bedside table.
"Annngh, stop making noise, I gotta get some sleep before school starts." The hand silenced the phone, before retreating back into the covers. A few moments past before, "I'm gonna be late for school!" The figure leapt from the bed, revealing a young girl with black hair, fair skin, and blue eyes, currently in a pair of plain, pink pajamas, who quickly grabbed a set of clothes laying on a dresser, and rushed into the bathroom. After a quick shower, the girl ran back into her room, and began collecting everything she needed into a backpack. She now wearing a grey blazer, a white shirt with a pink and black floral pattern near the collar, pink jeans, and pink shoes.
"Notebooks, pencils, sketchbook...Oops, can't forget my deck and duel disk!" She grabbed a small deck of black and brown cards sitting neatly on her desk, and a grey and red oval-shaped device sitting next to it. She carefully placed the device in her bag, and her cards into a small box, before putting it into the bag as well. With that, she rushed out of her room, and into a small bakery underneath.
"Bye Mom! Bye Dad! No time to chat. Gotta hurry to school! Love you!" The girl tried to run past her parents, but her mother grabbed her arm, pulling her back.
"Marinette~, I thought I told you no running in the bakery." The mother admonished before wrapping her daughter into a hug. The girl's mother has black hair like her daughter, but has grey eyes, and stood a few inches shorter than her. Despite the height difference, she still managed to overpower the younger girl. She was wearing a white, Asian inspired dress; with a red, black, and white floral pattern; light purple pants; and black and white shoes.
The girl, now known as Marinette, rolled her eyes, but returned the hug anyways. Once they separated, her father walked over to them. Her dad was a giant of a man, easily towering over both mother and daughter, and even most people in the city. He had brown hair, with thick sideburns and mustache, and green eyes, and was wearing a plain blue shirt with brown pants and dark brown shoes. In his hands was a small box of macarons and various other pastries. "Don't forget this! The best way to make a good impression, is to use sweets from the new year!"
"Thanks Dad, can't believe I almost forget those, and after all the effort I went through to make them." She hugged her dad, and grabbed the box of pastries, and walked out the front door.
"Alright Marinette, its the start of a new school year! Time to reinvent your image, and transform from the klutzy loser to everyone's dependable friend! Unless Chloé Bourgeois is in your class again, for the fourth year in a row. Argh! Why is she even in public school! She should be in some private school, far, far away from me!" Marinette muttered to herself, not paying attention to her surroundings. After bumping into several people on the street, she'd quickly mumble a small apology and continued walking to Collège Françoise Dupont, dreading the idea of Chloé being in her class. "Nope! Even if she's in my class, this is gonna be my year! Look out world, Marinette Dupain-Cheng is not backing down!" At her sudden outburst, several passersby turned toward her, eyeing her in confusion. She quickly shrunk down, embarrassed by her actions, and tried not to focus on their stares as she waited for the crosswalk to change. She shifted in her spot, trying to maneuver her box of pastries into a more comfortable position as she pulled out her phone, noting that she only has a few minutes before she'd be late.
Looking up from her phone for a split second, she noticed that an old man was walking across the street. He was a rather short, old man with greying hair, and wearing a red Hawaiian shirt, tan capri pants, and brown shoes. Looking back at the crosswalk signal, Marinette noticed the light was still red, and gazing down the street, she noticed a truck barreling down the road, heading right for the old man, and had no signs of stopping. Doing the first thing that came to her mind, she threw her box of treats to the ground, ran to the oblivious elder, and practically tackled him to the other side of the crosswalk.
"Are you okay?" She asked him, looking back as the other pedestrians walked all over her macarons, only looking up from their phones to notice the changing light, none the wiser to the potential accident that could've happened.
"Oh yes, I'm quite alright, thanks to you. At my age, it's hard to notice such things, so it's nice that there are still heroes in the younger generation." He replied, giving Marinette a small smile.
"I wouldn't say 'hero', I was just doing what anyone would do."
"But no one else did anything. You were the only one to help an old man in need."
"Um, listen this is a really interesting conversation, it really is, but I gotta hurry to school. Sorry, bye!" Stopping the conversation before it could get out of hand, Marinette waved to the old man, and began rushing back to school, determined not to be late.
As the old man watched her retreating figure, he pulls out a small playing card, before picking up his cane, walking in the direction Marinette had come from.
At Collège Françoise Dupont, Marinette could be seen running into a classroom, "Yes! Made it before the bell! I'm safe!" Looking around the room, Marinette noticed that only a few people were in the room: a pale girl sitting in the back of the class ,with black hair and black clothes, with the only bit of color being the purple streak in her hair; a dark skinned man with glasses and a green shirt in the middle of the classroom; a pale boy with red hair and grey jacket, messing around in a notebook, also in the back of the class; and another dark skinned boy, wearing a red baseball cap, a blue shirt, and orange headphones hanging around his neck also sitting towards the back of the class. Marinette vaguely recognized them as Juleka, Max, Nathaniel, and Nino respectively, from previous years where they were in the same class.
"Nino, Nathaniel, why don't you try sitting near the front of class this year?" A warm and kind voice called out from the front of the room. Marinette turned and looked at her teacher, a rather young woman with orange hair tied up into a bun, blue eyes, and was wearing a light blue jacket and pants, cyan dress shirt, and white heels. She was Caline Bustier, and according to rumors, she was the nicest teacher at the school. Both boys groaned, but obeyed the teacher as the boy in blue moved to the deck in the front row, and the redhead sat in the desk behind him.
Quickly looking around the classroom, Marinette decided to sit at the other desk in the front row, and waited for the other students to arrive, desperately hoping a certain blonde isn't among them.
First to arrive was Mylène Haprèle, a short girl with dreadlocks dyed green, blue, and pink, along with her natural blonde hair. She was wearing a pink bandana, blue T-shirt with a white pigeon design, a lime green jacket with a bunch of pins attached everywhere, dark brown jean shorts, brown leggings, and purple sneakers. She decided to sit behind Marinette, offering a meek hello, which Marinette returned, happy to see a friendly face.
After her came Rose Lavillant, a short, blonde girl wearing what could only be described as pink: pink dress, pink mini skirt, and pink sandals, with the only other colors being the brown soles of her shoes and the occasional placement of white breaking up the overwhelming monotony of her outfit. Without hesitation, she sat herself down by Juleka, and began engaging the other girl in rapid conversation.
"I'm gonna beat ya!"
"Dream on! I'm getting there first!" A male and female voice could be heard arguing down the hall. After a few seconds the door opened, and two figures ran through. First was a short girl with tanned skin, pinkish hair, and blue eyes. She was wearing a black baseball cap, a black, long-sleeved shirt with a bright green snake design on each sleeve, a dark green tank top, black jean shorts, and black sneakers. She also had a band-aid right below one of her knees.
Coming in right after her was a muscular boy with olive skin and black hair with the front tips dyed gold. He wore a red, short-sleeved hoodie, navy blue sweatpants, and red and black shoes. These two were Alix Kubdel and Lê Chiến Kim respectively, the two most athletic and competitive students in their year.
"Haha! Victory! Better luck next time Kim!"
"Yeah, yeah. I'll beat you next time, and that's a promise!"
As the two of them were about to pick seats, Ms. Bustier called out to the two of them. "Pardon me, but Alix, Kim, I was told to not allow you two to sit around each other. So I'm afraid I'll have to decided your seats for you. Kim, you may sit next to Max, and Alix, your seat is next to Nathaniel. I hope this doesn't disappoint you too much." She gave a kind smile to the two rivals, who obeyed with a groan. Kim gave Max a small fist bump, and Alix gave Nathaniel a small nod, who responded in kind.
Next walked in a student Marinette had never seen before, unlike the other students that she's interacted with or heard about from previous years. The new student had a tanned complexion, and long red-brown hair that reached just below her shoulders. She was wearing an orange and white plaid shirt, blue jeans, black glasses, and white sneakers with a black zigzag design. She looked around for a bit, before choosing an empty desk at the back of the class.
'So far so good. Mostly friendly faces, and a new one. But no Chloé in sight. Maybe this year won't be so bad?' Feeling confident that Chloé wasn't in her class, she decided to mess around on her phone, not paying attention to the world around her.
"Ahem! I don't know what planet you think you're on, but that's my seat." A familiar, annoying voice called out to Marinette, who reluctantly looked up from her phone. Standing before her was Chloé Bourgeois in all her 'glory.' Her fair skin free from any blemish, honey blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail, an extraordinary amount of makeup, and blue eyes glaring at her in annoyance. She was wearing her 'favorite' clothes, all brand name as she constantly reminds everyone who so much as glances at them: a bright yellow over shirt, a black and white striped shirt, white jeans, white shoes adorned with bows, and resting atop her head was her signature white sunglasses.
Standing behind Chloé was her only friend, Sabrina Raincomprix, a fair-skinned girl with chin-length orange hair. She was wearing a white headband, brown glasses, a purple and blue sweater vest, a long-sleeved white shirt, a black bow around the collar, bright blue shorts, black leggings, and white shoes. A meek look over her face.
"Didn't you hear me Dupain-Cheng? I said get lost! That's my seat, and you're getting your poor person germs all over it. Why don't you sit next to the new girl? You can be losers together." Chloé demanded, motioning Marinette away, not bothering to hide her contempt and annoyance.
Marinette bit her tongue...hard, she could even taste a little blood. She wanted to talk back to Chloé, to put her in her place, to show she wasn't going to be pushed around anymore, but she was scared. It wasn't a secret that Chloé had power over the school, and she could make a person's life miserable just because they looked at her wrong, she's done it before. So, with only a second of hesitation, Marinette grabbed her stuff, and looked around at the others, only to notice that most of were looking away, pretending not to notice the argument. She moved to the back of the class, walking towards the new girl.
"Hope you don't mind me sitting here." Marinette said, looking down in embarrassment.
"No problem girl, but I gotta ask. Why'd you do what she said? Frankly, I don't appreciate being called a loser." She replied, gesturing to Chloé, waiting impatiently as Sabrina wiped down the desk and chair, getting rid of the 'poor people germs.'
"T-That's Chloé Bourgeois, you don't just stand up to her! That's crazy!" She answered, looking at the new girl like she grew a second head, who only raised an eyebrow in response. "She's the mayor's daughter."
"And? Last I checked, she's still a student here."
"Her dad gives the school a lot of money. At her word, he will pull all his funding. She's done it before..."
"Ah...I think I get it now." The new girl nodded her head, finally understanding Marinette's situation. "I guess this means we just gotta be losers together. Friends?" She extended her hand, giving Marinette a small smile.
"Heh, thanks." She takes the outstretched hand, shaking it gratefully. "My name's Marinette Dupain-Cheng, what's yours? I can't keep calling you 'new girl' forever."
"I'm Alya, Alya Césaire. And I think we're gonna be great friends." The two finished their handshake, and looked back at the door as one other person rushed through, just as the bell rang.
Marinette recognized him as Ivan Bruel. A large, stocky boy with pale skin, grey eyes, and very short, black hair save for a small tuft of gold above his forehead. He wore a black T-shirt with crossbones, black shorts, and light orange boots. "I'm not late, am I?" He asked, out of breathe.
"Nope, just pick a seat, and class will begin." Replied Ms. Bustier, as cheerful as ever.
Ivan looked around, staring a bit at Mylène, before walking to the empty desk in front of Marinette and Alya.
'Okay Marinette, Chloé's in your class...again...but its not all bad. You made a new friend! That's a net positive, right? Oh, who am I kidding? Could this day get any worse?"
Adrenaline was pumping through his veins, he was so close. Just a little more and he'd be at the school.
'I think I lost them. I can't believe I'm almost there. Just gotta round this corner and...' Whatever the boy was thinking to himself stopped as he turned around the corner. Standing in front of the school was a familiar face: the large, imposing figure stood at attention, muscles straining against the dark blue suit he somehow got on as his blue eyes scanning the crowd. Suddenly, their eyes meet, and the large man began running towards him. Turning on his heel, the boy ran in a random direction, making sure his hat and sunglasses stayed on despite the wind.
The boy tried his hardest to lose his pursuer, but he was unsuccessful, and the man was slowly getting closer. The boy kept running, searching for any escape route, but he wasn't paying attention to what's in front of him, and ended up running into someone, both of them falling to the ground. The boy got up quickly, and looked at who he ran into, an old man in a Hawaiian shirt.
"I'm so sorry sir. I wasn't looking where I was going, and I ran into you." He helped the older man up, looking back at his pursuer, noticing that he's gotten even closer than before. He looked down, and noticed that his hat had fallen to the ground, his blonde hair free for anyone to see. Quickly scooped it up, the boy tried to resume running. "I'm really sorry, but I need to run. I hope you aren't too hurt!" As he was about to run, he noticed that a girl was struggling to retrieve her cat, who appeared to be stuck in a tree. Checking his pursuer, who was now dangerously close, the boy only gave a sigh, before running up to the girl.
"My cat! He's stuck!" She said, pointing towards a rather chubby looking cat, struggling to hang onto a branch.
"Don't worry, I got it." The boy replied, preparing to scale the large tree. He jumped up, climbing from branch to branch, until he reached the top. Grabbing the cat by the underside, he carefully made his way down, before reuniting pet and owner. After which, he felt a large hand grab his shoulder. He looked back as saw his pursuer, and another familiar face: a slender woman with blue eyes and black hair with a large red streak, wearing red glasses, a black suit over a red turtleneck sweater, and black heels.
"Hehehehe...Guess you caught me." The boy gave a weak laugh, flinching under woman's stern glare. "Sorry, Nathalie."
"Adrien, we'll talk about this with your father. For know, please return to the limo."
"Wait, did you say Adrien? Are you Adrien Agreste?! You are! Adrien Agreste saved my cat!" The little girl still beside them shouted out, drawing the attention of everyone around them.
"Did you say Adrien Agreste?"
"He goes to this park?"
"Think he'll take a picture with me?"
"My daughter wants his autograph!" Suddenly, a large mob rushed up to them. Trying their hardest to make it past the boy's previous pursuer, who in turn blocked their advance.
"Limo, now." Nathalie demanded, pushing Adrien away from the crazed crowed. As the trio managed to get away from the sudden mob, no one noticed the old man pulling out a small playing card with a small smile on his face.
"Alright everyone, I believe that's a great place to stop class for now. You're free to leave, see you all tomorrow." Ms. Bustier said, dismissing the class as she gathered her things. Almost instantly, the class buzzed as the students talked amongst each other. Ivan, who had no one to talk to, was staring at Mylène, a fact that only Kim took notice of, and a small smirk graced the athletic boy's face as he got up from his desk, and bent down to whisper into Ivan's ear, so as to stop others from hearing.
"Y'know, I bet if you could knock Chloé down a few pegs, she might consider dating you."
The sudden noise startled Ivan, and he looked back at Kim, red with embarrassment. "W-W-What do you mean?"
"Uhh, Mylène, dude. Y'know, the girl you've been staring at all class." Ivan grew even more red, and tried to deny it, but Kim interrupted him. "I'm not making fun of you or somethin'. I'm just saying, she hates Chloé just as much as everyone else. If you show Chloé her place, then not only will everyone in class love you, she might consider going out with you."
"H-How'd I even do that?"
Kim only rolled his eyes, "How else? With a duel! Duel Chloé, and win! You duel right?" Ivan only nodded his head. "Great, I believe in you. You can totally do it." And with that, Kim went right back to his desk, and started talking with Max.
Ivan stared at Chloé, and then to Mylène, and then to the rest of the class, deep in thought.
Marinette and Alya were currently talking to each other, not really paying attention to anything else. That's when they heard Ivan loudly stand up from his deck, stomp down to the front row, dramatically point at Chloé and practically shout, "Chloé, I'm sick of you always bossing everyone around! It's time that someone finally stood up to you! I challenge you to a duel! Right here, right now!"
The classroom went silent, no one dared to say anything. Despite feeling like an eternity, the silence only lasted a few seconds, and was quickly broken by Chloé laughing. "Is this some poor person joke I'm too rich to understand? Isaac, or Isaiah, or whatever your name was, I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that, and let you crawl back to whatever dumpster you got those clothes from." She waved him off, glancing down at her nails.
"Its Ivan, and I'm serious. Someone's gotta do it, and that's me! So duel me! If I win, you can't boss us around any more!" His face was red, whether it was from anger or embarrassment, Marinette couldn't tell.
"Huh? Really? You think that some loser like you even stands a chance against moi? I'm insulted the thought even crossed your mind." She looked at her nails again, and threw her books at Sabrina, before standing up. "But, like, you're on. I could use a good laugh."
Ivan and Chloé walked to opposite ends of the classroom, and everyone else moved to the sides, some were already cheering Ivan on.
"Last chance Ian, surrender now and save yourself the embarrassment." Chloé held out her arm as Sabrina attached a gold colored disk to her arm, and put a deck of cards into a slot on the center of the disk. Once the deck was secured, a blade shot out from the disk.
"Its Ivan! And not a chance, I'm gonna beat you!" Ivan clumsily strapped a black disk to his own arm, and placed his deck, a similar blade shooting out.
"'Duel!'" Both players shouted, drawing 5 cards from their deck.
Turn: 1
Chloé: 4000 LP
Hand: 5
Ivan: 4000 LP
Hand: 5
"I'll be taking the first move! Beauty before ugly and all that!" Chloé said, looking at her cards, an evil smirk appearing on her face. "And I think I'll start by using the spell card, Confiscation! By paying 1000 life points, I can look at your hand, and send one of your cards to the graveyard! Let's see your garbage hand!" A hologram of a cyan card depicting a soldier taking a treasure chest while a woman begs on her knees. Then, holograms of Ivan's cards appeared before the whole class: the first was a beige card depicting a man-like fish holding a spear; the second was a purple card with an image of lighting sticking multiple targets; the next was another beige card with an image of a cybernetic, white orb; the fourth was a cyan card depicting a man standing amidst a raging fire; and the last one was a beige card showing a brown skeleton with a dark green cloak.
"Wow, I expected them to be bad, but not this bad. Like, The Wandering Doomed, Digitron, Heart of the Underdog? Get your ugly cards away from me. I guess I'll get rid of Digitron."
Chloé: 3000 LP
Ivan sends his card to the graveyard slot in his duel disk, not looking too happy. Hearing his classmates whisper only deepened his scowl.
"But don't get too attached, because I activate Delinquent Duo!" Chloé placed another card down on her duel disk, and another cyan hologram appeared, this time depicting two jeering imps, one purple and the other blue. "By paying another 1000 life points, this card randomly discards a card from your hand, and then you gotta discard another one. I'm sending your cards were they belong, out of my sight!" Popping out of the card, the two imps flew over to Ivan, ripped a card out of his hand, and slide it into the graveyard. Ivan begrudgingly selected another to discard.
Chloé: 2000 LP
"Wait, those are two of the rarest cards in the game! How'd Chloé get her hand on those?" Alya asked, shocked that Chloé had such powerful cards.
"It's called being rich, I can afford any card I want." Chloé said, flipping her ponytail back behind her shoulder. "And my turn isn't over yet! I'll summon Gem-Knight Garnet, and set a card face down to finish my turn. Hurry up and play, I got better things to do than waste it here." A hologram of man in red knight armor appeared on Chloé's field, and black and brown card behind him. Next to Chloé's monster was a text box, "1900 ATK. Level 4."
"My turn, I draw." Ivan said, practically ripping the top card out from his deck.
Turn: 2
Chloé: 2000 LP
Hand: 1
Ivan: 4000 LP
Hand: 3
He looked at his cards, and frowned even harder than before. "I'll play Atlantean Pikeman in attack mode!" A bipedal fish-man holding a long spear appeared on Ivan's field with a text box, "1400 ATK. Level 2." "I-I'll set a facedown of my own, and end my turn." Ivan growled out, his own black and brown card appearing on his field. He had sweat dripping from his brow.
"Like, draw." Chloé said, calmly drawing her card.
Turn: 3
Chloé: 2000 LP
Hand: 2
Ivan: 4000 LP
Hand: 1
She didn't bother looking at the card she drew, and instead played the other card in her hand. "I summon Gem-Knight Tourmaline. And I'll proceed to battle." A hologram of a man in yellow knight armor joined her other monster, his text box read, "1600 ATK. Level 4."
"Gem-Knight Garnet, attack his ugly monster!" The man in red ran forward, his fist igniting in flames. He leapt into the air, and headed right for Atlantean Pikeman, fist cocked back.
"Not so fast! I activate the trap card, Attack of the Cornered Rat!" Ivan's facedown card flipped itself up, revealing a purple card depicting a group of zombie rats. "When my level 3 or lower normal monster battles, this card lets me pay life points by the hundreds to decrease your monster's attack by the same amount! And it's not once per turn." Ivan smirked, confident that he's beaten Chloé.
"Not so fast! I activate the counter trap Solemn Judgement! Pay paying half my life points, I can negate your grody trap card, and destroy it!" The face down on Chloé's field flipped up, revealing a purple card with an old man raising his hand while surrounded by angels.
Chloé: 1000 LP
Lightning struck down from the heavens, striking Ivan's trap, and blowing it up. Ivan didn't have any time to react, as Gem-Knight Garnet slammed his fist into Atlantean Pikeman, shattering the monster into pieces, the shards blowing past Ivan.
Ivan: 3500 LP
"Now Tourmaline, attack him directly or whatever, Plasma Bolt!" The yellow knight slammed his fists together and pulled them apart, a ball of electricity forming between them. Aiming carefully, Tourmaline threw the ball, striking Ivan directly in the chest.
Ivan: 1900 LP
"And with that, I end my turn." Chloé said, putting her hand on her hips, looking bored. "Is this seriously all you can do? Like, my expectations were low, but this is worse than trash. You should feel bad for wasting my time."
"Shut up!" Ivan growled, growing angrier with every word she speaks. "It's not over yet! Draw!" Once again, he roughly drew from his deck.
Turn: 4
Chloé: 1000 LP

Ivan: 1900 LP

Looking at the card he drew, he played it immediately, "I play Enchanting Fitting Room." Spawning onto Ivan's field was something straight out of a horror movie: some sort of eldritch machine with red curtains. "By paying 800 LP, I get to excavate the top 4 cards of my deck, and summon all level 3 or lower normal monsters from among them to my field! The others are shuffled into my deck."
Ivan: 1100 LP
Ivan drew the top 4 cards, and the curtains on the 'fitting room' opened, revealing holograms for all 4 cards: 3 spells and 1 trap. Ivan went silent as he placed the 4 cards back into his deck, which then shuffled itself. "I set a monster facedown, and end my turn." He said with no emotion, as a sideways black and brown card appeared on his field. The whole class went silent, fearing the outcome of this duel.
"What happened to before? Did you realize that, next to me, everyone here is just trash? Draw!"
Turn: 5
Chloé: 1000 LP
Hand: 2
Ivan: 1100 LP

"Tourmaline, attack his monster!" As Tourmaline walked over to Ivan's monster, it flipped up, revealing a brown skeleton wearing a dark green cloak. The knight raised both his hands, and slammed them down on the skeleton, shattering it.
"Garnet, end this waste of time now! Flaming Iron Fist!" Garnet bent low to the ground, his hands to his side. One of his fists suddenly caught on fire, and he leapt forward, making it to Ivan in a single bound. Once he was within range, Garnet threw his fist forward, plunging it right into Ivan, sending him crashing to floor behind him.
Ivan: 0 LP
His duel disk let out a buzzing alarm, signaling his defeat, and the holograms disappeared.
"That's what you get! And let that be a lesson to everyone here. I'm richer, prettier, and better than all of you, and don't any of you forget it. Now come along Sabrina, I need to leave before their poor person stench clings to me." Chloé walked out of the classroom, Sabrina not far behind.
After a few seconds, Nino walked over to Ivan and said, "Hey, don't worry about it man. It was a close match, you had her down to a sliver."
"Most of it was self inflicted though." Alix spoke up.
"Chloé only won 'cause she had those rare cards! Without them, she would've lost." Rose argued, trying to defend Ivan's performance.
"Actually, if Ivan's cards were any indication, he had about a 4.7% chance of winning, and even if we assume he would've top decked some of the best cards in the game, they would only bump up his chances to 10%." Max rebutted.
"Oh man, I did not see that coming." Kim exclaimed, jumping off the desk he was sitting on. "Man, that was a crazy duel. Chloé had you in the palm of her hand the entire game!"
Ivan just glared at him, about to say something, but just turned away.
"Hey, are you okay?" Mylène asked, crouching down to help Ivan up. He looked up at her before swatting her hand away, quickly getting to his feet, and running off.
"Now that was uncalled for! Geez, talk about being a sore loser. You okay girl?" Alya asked Mylène.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine."
"Should someone go after him?" Marinette asked.
"Why bother, he clearly doesn't want to talk. He challenged her, so he shouldn't be so upset. That's like common decency, or something." Alix said, rolling her eyes, before walking out of the classroom. One by one, the others followed suit
Ivan ran, and ran, and ran, not caring where he went, just so long as he was away from them. Looking at him in pity, taunting him, judging him. When he finally came to a stop, he didn't know how much time had passed, nor did he care. Finding an isolated corner, he crouched into a ball, and resisted the tears threatening to fall.
"Stupid Chloé, always acting like you're better than us, better than me. Stupid cards, making me look bad in front of everyone, in front of her. And stupid Kim, telling me he believed in me, that I had a chance! It's his fault! All his fault! I'll get him, I swear I'll get him! Then no one will look down on me!" He ranted to himself, tears falling against his will. As he was talking to himself, he noticed a card falling down next to him. The card had the same back as a Duel Monsters card, but the front was completely black. But Ivan couldn't stop looking at it, he felt drawn to it, he wanted it, he needed it. Slowly reaching out, he grabbed the card, and almost instantly, his head exploded in pain. He brought his other hand to his head, refusing to let the card go.
"Poor lost soul, seeking retribution for those who've wronged you." A voice spoke in his head, a cruel voice devoid of warmth, malice dripping from every word. "I shall give you power, the strength to take your revenge! And all I ask in return is for you to cause chaos! Create disorder! Break the shackles holding you down! Disregard your heart, turn it to stone, and reject the world that cruelly rejected you. Will you accept this power, and swear loyalty to me?"
Ivan stood up, tears no longer running down his face. He looks down at the black card, "I accept! I don't care about anything else, just help me hurt Kim!"
"Then let the darkness wash over you and be reborn, Stonebreaker!"
Ivan felt pain rocket through his whole body, and he stumbled over, falling to the floor. He could feel his limbs grow, his skin stretching against the growing mass. But then the pain disappeared, and he felt good, he felt better than good, he felt powerful. Ivan stood up, wait, was that his name? No, he was Stonebreaker now, that's what he wanted.
'Why did I want this again? Kim! Kim? Who's Kim? Why does his name make me so angry? It's all Kim's fault! What did he do? Must get my revenge! But why? Kim! Kim? Kim! Kim!'
"KIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMM!" He bellowed, voice shaking everything around him.
"Now, what are the major factors that ultimately led to the Revolution of 1789?" Nathalie asked a bored looking Adrien, who blankly stared at an open textbook.
"There was the inequality between the classes, unfair taxes, and the American Revolution, just to name a few." He replied, rolling a pencil up and down the table he was seated at.
"Good, and what government replaced the failing monarchy, and what was this period called?"
The sound of the door opening interrupted the two, and out walked a man with light blonde hair, and greyish blue eyes. He was wearing black glasses, a white dress shirt, a grey vest, a pale yellow dress jacket, a red-and-white striped ascot, red dress pants, and white shoes. This man was Gabriel Agreste, Adrien's father. "Nathalie, please leave us." He said, his voice even and flat, without a hint of emotion. The woman nodded before turning to Adrien, "I suppose we may be finished with your lessons for today." And she promptly left the room, leaving the two alone.
"Adrien, I'm told you ran away to school again." The man said, looking the boy in the eye, every word laced with disappointment.
Adrien looked down, "Yes Father. I'm sorry." He tried his best to keep a straight face and even voice.
The man sighed, clearly not surprised by the turn of events. "Adrien, we've been over this. With Nathalie, you couldn't find a better tutor. What could a school offer you that she can't?" The man got closer to his son, but still kept a distance from him.
"I can't have friends my own age if I'm stuck in here." Adrien bitterly mumbled before looking up at his father in shock, not intending to say that out loud.
Gabriel sighed, "Adrien, we've talked about this."
"I know Father, but still." Adrien tried to argue, but his words fell on deaf ears. Sensing that his father wont listen to him, he got up and ran to his room.
"Adrien, wait!" Gabriel cried out, but it was too late, Adrien had already left, leaving him alone.
As Adrien ran into his room, he slammed the door behind him, and threw himself facedown onto his bed. He tried to wipe away the tears streaming down his face, but they just kept coming. He turned to face the celling, and looked around at his room. His room was large, and filled to the brim with everything: arcade machines, a rock-climbing wall, a foosball table, more books than he could possibly read, and everything else he could ever need. So why? Why was he so unhappy here? He looked at the foosball table, worthless without someone to play with; he thought of all the books, shows, and movies lining his shelves, having no one to talk about them with; and how he wished he could challenge someone to race on the rock-climbing course.
"Please Father! Why can't you see? I need friends, more than just the occasional visit from Chloé! You won't even let Felix visit, even after his father died! I miss him, and Aunt Amelie. I just wish...I just wish I wasn't so lonely." He tried once again to wipe away the tears, this time succeeding. Sitting up, he decided to browse the internet using one of his alternate accounts, given to him by Nathalie, and monitored for his 'safety'. That's when he noticed to faint sounds of gunfire coming from beyond his window. Quickly rushing to his feet, he rushed to the window, and threw it open. He could make out the familiar red-and-blue lights of the police racing in the direction of Chloé's school, followed by sounds of explosions. He grabbed the TV remote, fumbling with it for a second, before switching the TV to every news station he could.
"Breaking news! A-A-A rock monster has been sighted on the campus of Collège Françoise Dupont!" A reporter said, standing behind a police barricade. Sounds of gunfire erupting from the background, followed by a deep roar. "That's right, a rock monster! And any effort made by the police to subdue the beast seems to be ineffective. Please, stay away from the Collège Françoise Dupont ar-" The reporter was interrupted as a car was thrown through the barricade, landing just inches from the reporter.
"KIIIIIIIIIIIIMM!"
"-This is Nadja Chamack signing out! Cut the feed! Cut th-" The reporter walked forward, motioning for the cameraman to stop recording when the broadcast suddenly cuts out.
Adrien felt his arm go limp, the remote slipping from his grip and crashing to the floor. A monster? In Paris? He couldn't believe it, "There are...monsters among us?" He started to leave his room, aiming to go and help, but stopped when he got to his door. 'What can I do? If the police can't stop him, then what can a normal person hope to accomplish? The school isn't that far, I can go and help people run away! But what if I get hurt? Father already lost Mother, can he lose me too?' His hand rested a hair's breadth from the door handle, frozen as conflicting thoughts fought in his head. But one side had to win, and his hand fell back to his side.
He walked back to his bed, sitting on the edge, trying to ignore the gunfire, and the explosions, and the screams. He went to go close the window, and that's when he noticed it, a small playing card sitting on his table. Taking a closer look, the card looked like a Duel Monsters card, a game he played with his cousin when they were younger, but his father forbade him from playing. Unlike the cards from his childhood, the front of the card was completely white, and looking closer, it was slightly glowing. Picking up the card, he felt a jolt of pain pass through his body as the card glowed brighter, blinding him. Once the light died down, the card looked completely different: no longer white, the card had a dark brown border, and an image of a ghost-like beast being restrained by chains. Adrien couldn't help but read the card's name aloud, "Unchained Soul of Disaster."
"You called?" A deep voiced growled out, and Adrien snapped his head to it. Standing before him was the beast depicted on the card. "Are you my new master?"
A/N: And that's a wrap. Bit of a weird place to end the chapter, but I need to make it 2 parts, otherwise it'll be over 10k words long, and that's just too much for a single chapter. Let me be upfront, this fic will alternate with my other fic, as to avoid burnout. So let me know what you think about the chapter. Bet you didn't see some of these decks coming, like Chloé playing Gem-Knight, which honestly surprised me that it hasn't been done before. So let me know what decks you think other characters will play. But regardless, please tell me the good, the bad, and what can improve. I'm always looking to improve my writing ability, so that I can write better stories for all of you.
