Tale of a Hat Snake

Seth, high priest of Khemet, found himself outside in the gardens one day, thinking about an unlikely topic.
It all started when Mana had made a comment on his hat. Or, more specifically, the cobra that decorated it. Now, cobra ornamentation was very common in the country, but Mana felt the need to point it out. Because, as she put it, the snake would stare at you. And not just stare blankly, or with the designed look, but would actually change it's expression.
Seth found this all to be entirely silly, but still, here he was, with his hat in his hands and he glared down at the cobra. It looked normal to him; slightly serious eyes, but with something of a happy smile. He'd never bothered to actually try to read the expression of the gold decoration before, and the more he thought about it, the more pathetic the whole thing seemed to be. Of course the snake wouldn't change it's expression, unless someone had cast a charm on it. Mahaado wouldn't have done so, and something probably would have exploded if Mana had. The girl had a rather active imagination, so it wasn't unexpected for, of all people, it to be her that pointed it out.
The high priest gave the hat another look, somewhat annoyed, and blinked in surprise as the snake's grin looked a little less... Grin-like. He stared at it a moment before scoffing; he'd thought about this topic far too long and was letting his imagination run off on him. There was no way that stupid snake was smirking at him. And even less plausible that it was LAUGHING at him.
With a small eye-twitch, Seth deftly turned the hat around and shoved it back onto his head. That was more than enough of that. He could be doing something important; helping the Pharaoh, directing some guards, finding fault with something one of the other priests said... Anything but looking at a hunk of gold formed into an expressionate snake. He got up and stormed off into the palace, ignoring the weird look he got from Shaadah, and made his way towards the throne room where he was sure he could busy himself doing something worthwhile.
Meanwhile, the snake cackled mentally and contemplated it's plan of world domination. Which, of course, culminated with the eating of the planet itself. Because that's just what golden hat-snakes do.
A/N: X3; If you haven't noticed this before, go look at some screen caps of Seth. The snake's expressions DO change, damnit! XD And uh... Don't ask about the world-eating thing. XD
