Wait... how would that work? If he's a fictional character, and he's from another world that's not mine... am I from a parallel Earth?

Well, I don't know so I'm going to save myself a headache and stop trying to wrap this around my head.

After some internal dialogue, you walk up to Subaru, who is also disappointed in his lack of magic.

Just wait until he unlocks his ability. He'll wish that he couldn't use magic after he dies a few times.

"Hey, this may sound weird, but do you happen to come from Japan? I can see that you have a tracksuit on, and it doesn't look like people from this place wear those."

You decide not to tell him about everything that you already know. He doesn't need to know that he is a fictional character because it would just make his mental state even worse later on.

I can't even imagine what I would do if someone just came up to me and told me that I was a fictional character, and that all of my actions have already been thought out.

Subaru looked up, eyes wide in shock. "Wait. You know about Japan? I'm not the only one that got summoned to this fantasy world?"

"Nope. I also come from Japan." Well, this was true, but you didn't mention that your Japan and his Japan were two completely different things.

"Cool. Now let's go explore town. The cute girl that summoned us awaits!"

That's it?! He just learned that there is another person like him, but all he cares about is finding some girl that may or may not have summoned him?

Well, I can't judge him. If I didn't know about this world, I would've searched for some hot girl and make her fall for me, since that always happens to an isekai MC.

"Okay, let's go!" You reply.

"Oh wait, what's your name?" Subaru asks this, and doesn't even to introduce himself first. How rude.

"My name is (Y/N) (L/N). What's yours?" Of course, you already know his name, but Subaru doesn't know that you know.

He does his weird pose thing, and says, "My name is Natsuki Subaru, but you can call me Subaru!"

"Okay, just stop doing that weird pose. People are staring." And indeed, Subaru's antics have caused several people, including the knights, to stare at the two of you.

"Jeez. I'm just trying to get a good first impression. Let me have my fun!" Subaru whined, but I'd rather not be the center of public attention in the first few minutes of arriving here.

"Ok, fine. Lets go already. The faster we get going, the faster we find that lady!" This was partially meant to urge Subaru to get going, but you also want to meet Emilia.

"Yeah, you're right. Let's go that way!" Subaru just started running in a random direction.

You sigh, and follow him.

The first place that you go to is the Appa stand.

"Hey boys, those are some weird looking clothes that you're wearing. You're not from around here, are ya?"

Hey, its Mr. Save Point Guy! I'm looking forward to seeing him again, if we follow the Re:Zero plot.

Anyway, I look down at my clothes, which was a (F/C) sweatshirt, (F/C) sweatpants, and (F/C) shoes. Sure, these aren't normal around here, but at least I don't stand out as much as Subaru, whose white and orange tracksuit stuck out from the crowd.

"Hey! They speak the same language!" Subaru whispered to me, before replying, "So are these...?"

"These are Appas, the freshest you'll find."

Pfft. The place I worked at served "The best milkshakes in the country" but we all knew that we just put a crap ton of sugar in them, so I doubt that these are really the freshest we'll ever find. Well, I'll play along.

Subaru, being the idiot that he is, tried paying with yen, but of course this world has different currency that ours.

We then got chewed out by the vender, and we left, feeling down.

Time skip

The two of you are sitting down in an alleyway. You and Subaru have wandered all across the city, but nothing good has happened.

To be honest, you could've helped a little bit, but it was funny to see Subaru being slapped after going into the girl's bathroom, so all of his pleasure was something that you were willing to sacrifice for your own.

"What happened to my MC status? What about yours, (Y/N)? Aren't we supposed to be OP characters from another world? This doesn't make sense." He turned to you. "Hey, why don't you use Excalibur or something?"

I sighed. "That's not how it works. We just have to keep on trying to discover our powers."

You already know what Subaru's power is, but you are also curious to see what abilities you have now.

Do I also have Return by Death, or do I have some other OP power that will make it easy to survive this harsh world? I can't wait to find out.

Actually, maybe I can. I better not get something like Subaru and end up mentally unstable as soon as I use it.

You and Subaru look through your current inventory. Subaru has some snacks and a flip phone.

How cute.

You have a Samsung Galaxy S20. Of course, your parents bought this for you since you're broke.

Your thoughts were cut off as three thugs suddenly approached you.

Subaru didn't look up, and went ahead and assumed that his cute girl was here for him.

Not yet Subaru, just wait a few more minutes.

"What are you talking about? If you don't want to get hurt, give us all your stuff!" One of the thugs commanded us to do this, so you had to think quick.

Do I call for the guards and get Rienhard? No, if I do that, we won't meet Emilia right now. In that case, do I fight? I know that Subaru will, but they have knives.

I kinda don't feel like dying, so I guess I should give up my phone. That, or I can stall for time...

While you were thinking, a certain yellow haired girl came running by.

"Move it! Outta my way!" Felt came in faster than what should be humanly possible, and we all just stared at her.

"You're a bit young, but who cares? You'll do!" said Subaru.

You facepalm.

Oh my goodness Subaru. Just how desperate are you?!

Felt gave him a disgusted look. Her lips moved, probably forming words that were on the lines of "pervert."

She ran away, and things just got awkward.

"So... did seeing this make you feel any less hostile?" Subaru said this, but you all knew the answer.

"Nope. If anything, things just worse." The big guy paused. "By the way, you're going to get jumped now."

All three thugs suddenly lunged at you.

Oh shoot! What should I do? Well, Emilia should show up soon, so I can either get injured on purpose or stay unscathed.

You dodge a strike from the short guy, and continue your thinking.

On the other hand, I can get a better start with Emilia if Subaru isn't the only injured one.

You look over to him and see him getting kicked.

Yeah... I should probably help him. That should be the best thing to do.

After dodging another strike from the short guy, you rush over to Subaru and shove the big guy. "Get up Subaru, or you'll be kicked even more!"

Subaru stayed on the ground, ignoring your words. "But he has a knife..."

Oh my goodness. I don't remember this man being such a wimp. Sure, knives can kill you, but can't he at least stand up to some street thugs?

"You should listen to your friend, punk. This knife doesn't care if you scared or not. You'll still get cut." He grinned evilly, but a voice suddenly came from behind him.

"That's enough!"

They turned around, and a smile came to my face.

So, you finally decided to show up.
