"Wait, what?!" This surprises you. You hadn't really heard of Yang magic, or even seen it in action yet in the anime, so you had no idea about what it was.

I take back everything that I said about light novel readers. Sure, they may be pricks when it comes to spoilers, but I would give anything to know what they know right about now.

"Actually, those are really rare affinities," said Puck. "In addition to the four main categories, there are two bonus ones: Yin and Yang."

"With Yin, or shadow magic, you can obstruct an opponent's vision, block sound, slow people's movements, and do other things like that."

Subaru sulks. "So, I'm just that one weak guy that can't deal damage, but uses debuffs against his enemies..."

"And Yang, or light magic, is just the opposite. You can use it to create light and strengthen others."

This was kind of expected, since Yang is the opposite of Yin, but you still sigh. "Are there any good attack spells that I can use? I can't really fight as I am right now, so I should probably learn some magic."

Puck nervously chuckled. "About that... I don't know if anybody at this mansion can teach you Yang magic. Roswaal has an affinity for it, but I have never seen him use it. You'll just have to ask him."

You weren't looking forward to having this discussion with the clown man, but it was something that you had to do.

"On the other hand, I can show Subaru some Yin magic. This is an easy one called Shamac!"

"Puck-" Emilia wanted to say something, but it was cut off as Puck casted the spell.

Everything suddenly went dark, and you couldn't hear anything. You felt a sense of déjà vu, but you couldn't place when or where it was that you've experienced this before.

After a short time, the darkness cleared, and you regained your senses.

"So, what do you think?" Puck asked with a grin.

"That's so cool!" said Subaru.

"Are you alright?" Emilia came up to you and Subaru, making sure that you two weren't injured.

"Yeah, I'm totally fine!" he said to Emilia. "I like it. It's not too flashy, but it seems really effective!" he directed this to Puck, who seemed pleased.

"Do you want to try it out?" Puck asked Subaru.

He considered it, then accepted. "Yes! Please help me Master Puck!"

Puck waved you and Emilia away. "You two should stand back in case he blows up." You smile. Seeing Subaru blow up would make your day a lot better, and according to what he said to you earlier, he has already done so.

You back away, so you don't hear what Puck says to Subaru. All you see is Subaru close his eyes and concentrate. You see a little burst of black come out, and then Subaru slumped to the ground.

Seeing that no more spells would be cast, you walk back towards Subaru.

He looked exhausted, but he had a smile on his face.

"It seems like your gate is not well used, so you don't have good control over it. (Y/N), if you're like Subaru, you will probably end up losing control of a spell the first few times that you try to cast one." Puck went to you and patted your back.

"Don't despair. You'll get the hang of it." He looked back as Emilia gave Subaru a strange looking fruit. As soon as he ate it, he sat straight up, and looked energized.

"Wow. I feel like I just regained some of my energy!" commented Subaru.

"That's because this is a Bocco fruit, which helps you regain some mana when you eat it." explained Emilia. She handed you and Subaru a few of them.

"Well, I'm sorry for the trouble that we caused you," you say.

Emilia snapped her head towards you. "You know, it's a lot more satisfying to hear a 'thank you' than it is to hear a barrage of 'sorry' after 'sorry'. I help you because I want to, not because I was looking for an apology, okay?"

"O-okay." It wasn't often that Emilia got upset, so this surprised you a little bit.

"Barusu, (Y/N), I see you are enjoying your break time." Not expecting to hear this voice, you look up and see Ram coming towards you.

"Hey Ram-chi. What are you doing here?" asked Subaru.

"Since you two seemed to be having such a good time, I decided that I would give you a prize."

What the crap? This seems pretty out of character for Ram... I wonder what she means by prize?

She smirked. "You two get to go to town with my adorable little sister and help her get supplies. Now get going." She waved her hands at you, so you sigh and walk off.

"Bye Emilia! Let's talk again later!" shouted Subaru as he walked off with you.

You didn't say anything. You just waved goodbye.

When you reached the front of the mansion, you see Rem waiting.

Time Skip

You decide to stay with Subaru, who is playing with the kids, instead of shopping with Rem.

What kind of guy actually likes shopping?

Actually, the real reason that you stay with Subaru is to keep an eye on that dog. Of course, you know that the little blue haired girl is actually controlling it, but there isn't anything that you can think of that can resolve that issue without you becoming a very hated person.

While you were thinking this, you suddenly feel pain in your right hand. You see the dog bite you.

You have to be kidding me...

Oh wait, I can't die. This works just fine.

I can just die once from mana depletion, and then ask Beatrice or Puck to find the curse. Problem solved.

You hand healed, and that catches some attention.

"Woah, how did you do that? The bite is gone!" asked Petra, the only kid whose name you remember.

You smile. "You see, this is magic! I, the invincible (Y/N), can heal all of my wounds as soon as I get them!"

You mentally curse yourself. You just let one of your future enemies know about your ability.

Oh well. She was going to find out one way or another, so who cares.

Subaru, who was doing stretches with the kids, did not appreciate the attention you were getting. "No fair! (Y/N), stop taking the spotlight. Sure, I may not have some cool ability that I carelessly show off, but at least let me have my fun!"

You let a small laugh escape your lips, and it was contagious. All of the kids started giggling, and even Subaru chuckled.

The laughing ended when Rem appeared, bags full of whatever it was that she got.

"Rem-rin, Rem-rin, play with us!" exclaimed the children.

This caught her off guard. "Are you having them call me this Subaru?"

He chuckled and put his hands on the back of his head. "Guilty as charged. I just wanted to spread some friendliness around, so please don't be mad." He made a pleading expression.

Rem's face remained neutral. "If that is all, we should be getting back to the mansion." She started walking back to the mansion.

"Sorry kids, but we have to go now. I promise that I'll come back for another round of Radio Calisthenics!" Subaru waved the kids goodbye, and ran to catch up with Rem.

"Bye, I'll also come back, so take care!" After saying this, you caught up with Rem and Subaru.

Subaru offered to take one of the bags, so you offered to take the other.

Rem gave you and Subaru the bags, but asked, "Subaru, why do you try so hard at everything? Unlike (Y/N), you're useless at just about everything, so why push yourself to do something that you will fail at?"

Well dang... she finally called him out.

After a brief silence, Subaru answered. "It's because I'm so useless that I have to try so hard. I have to push myself to be able to help others. I guess that you can say that I'm fanatical like a demon!"

This stopped Rem dead in her tracks. "A... demon...?"

Subaru chuckled. "Yeah. Gods are boring. They just sit and watch as things happen. Demons, on the other hand, take matters into their own hands and achieve their goals. That's why I'd rather be like a demon."

You grin softly. The sight before your eyes was one that you have been waiting for.

Rem was finally smiling.

Time skip

When you got to the mansion, you were met with the sight of Roswaal in formal attire.

"There you are. Rem, I'm going to have to leave for some busineeess. Please take of the mansion while I'm gone." Without even acknowledging you or Subaru, Roswaal flew away.

Subaru pulled you to the side. "(Y/N), this hasn't happened before. What does that mean?"

You grin. This meant that this loop was the one where Subaru fights the Mabeasts.

"It means that crap is about about to go down."

Subaru didn't seem to understand what that meant, but you left him anyway. You have to get ready to die in a place where someone would notice pretty fast.

Oh wait. I can stay with Subaru. He can report my death when it happens.

You turn around and reproach Subaru.

"Hey, is it okay if I crash at your room tonight? I think that we need to discuss some things so that we can understand what is happening."

"Sure. That seems like a good idea." Subaru said.

"(Y/N), haven't you forgotten something?" You turn around and once again find Ram standing right behind you.

Crap. What did I forget? Um... I'm drawing a blank. Did she ask me to do something?

She sighed. "Have you already forgotten about your lessons that I am generously providing you? Maybe I shouldn't waste my time if you are going to forget them so easily."

"She has a point." goaded Subaru.

"Shut up!" you playfully punch him in the shoulder.

He snickered. "Well, I guess I won't be seeing you tonight." He walked off, leaving you with Ram.

"Sorry about that. I really appreciate your lessons, so please don't stop them." you apologize, hoping that it will work.

Ram smirked. "Of course I'm still going to teach you. What good are you if you can't read instructions?" She also walked off, leaving you alone.

Actually, this works out. I can just die while Ram's teaching me. She isn't the ideal person to die in front of, but it'll do.

Time skip

You're in your room, trying to remember how to write the alphabet.

Ram leaned over you shoulder. "No, that's wrong. This is how you write it." She took your hand, and she helped you write the letter correctly.

She's so close! She's touching my hand! What's happening!?

You start panicking, but it ended when Ram backed away. "Now, try writing that again."

You had zoned out while she helped you write, so you scan the page, finding where you had already written it.

Before your pen could touch the page, a sudden wave of nausea hit you.

You felt weak, and your body went limp.

"(Y/N), this is no time to play games. Get back to studying." said an unconcerned Ram.

You wanted to listen to her, but you couldn't move anything. You fell to the floor, and everything started to turn black.

You felt like you were paralyzed. You couldn't move, but this was a sign that the curse that the dog put on you was working.

Wait a second.

Does my ability include regenerating mana? If it doesn't...

I might actually die.

Hey guys, I hoped you enjoyed this chapter!

If you have any suggestions, let me know!

With this said, see you next time!
