Whoops forgot I had written up to the end of season 2 to give myself a chapter buffer and that all I needed to do was edit.
The rest of the week was rather uneventful, no sudden class elections and no more practical's. All Might wasn't seen much either.
Mina would chatter to Toru about "This being a totally normal and boring first week of school after that practical and fear of being expelled."
Aizawa seemed to elect to use the time to go over the standard syllabus handed out in a new school and going over UA's rules and regulations. It might not have been handed out the first day of class but Aizawa explained, "It's because I didn't know if all of you would make it through the first week. I see no reasons to waste time on people who were going to quit anyway."
Hero Class 1-A seemed to quickly adapt to the more normal part of school life. The chatter during class lulled when there were the more boring and normal parts going on in school. It was clear by the expressions of some students; Mina, Kaminari and Kirishima to name a few that they were growing bored and restless with hero class periods being used exclusively to go over rules and regulations.
Iida on the other hand listened very carefully, taking notes. Yaoyorozu and Midoriya also took notes in equal fervor.
Toru pretended to be as bored as some of the other students, although she took the occasional note during lecture as well to keep looking about average. She didn't need any attention on her. However she couldn't keep her arms from shaking a little in anticipation of what was to come.
Our first attack on destroying All Might's legacy…It was exciting to think about it. And she knew as each day passed during the first week they were closer and closer to Saturday, the end of the week when USJ would be sprung on the students.
It's important for me to still be making friends though and forming strong relationships. I doubt we'll kill All Might so quickly and I'll be pulled away from my mission.
An average and friendly female student made friends with everyone from Toru's literary research, and had a few very close companions. She acted as a groupie in those close bonds instead of a leader.
Luckily Toru had already found her 'group'. She was the third to Ashido and Asui's trio. And she was making some good strides in having a few close companions scattered around the class as well. Ojiro, Shoji and Tokoyami all thought very positively of her and winning Uraraka, Midoriya, Yaoyorozu, Jiro, Kaminari, Sero, Sato, Kirishima and Iida to her side didn't seem very hard. They were all very friendly after all. And all she needed them to think was that she was friendly too. They didn't need to think of her often, just that she was friendly.
Winning Koda and Aoyama over was a bit more puzzling just because they were currently outsiders in any group. But Toru thought it would only take a few morning greetings for them to associate her with just being cheerful.
The real problem was Todoroki, Mineta and Bakugo. An average, normal and possibly boring friendly girl had no enemies from Toru's research. Rivals seemed like a normal thing to have in the hero course but Toru didn't want too much attention drawn on her. She didn't need an enemy.
It was more a test of willpower not to purposefully ignore Mineta, and Todoroki didn't really talk to anyone so he was more a loner than being malicious, but Bakugo was the real problem. He was violent, got angry easily at very little things and Toru sat in front of him in class.
I believe he's yelled at everyone in class at least once for being in his way or 'making a mistake' or 'being an eyesore' and we haven't even been together that long. He had yelled at everyone at least except for her. She was beginning to wonder if Bakugo didn't have a problem with her sitting in front of him because she didn't block his view because she was invisible. Or alternatively if he hadn't noticed there was a student assigned to sit in front of him.
Oh well, if he doesn't ever think about me or doesn't know I exist it doesn't matter. He can't pick on me and draw attention to me if he never thinks about me. It suited her just fine and she'd like to avoid being blown up. It wasn't like she could get easy access to a doctor's care for getting burned from an explosion. Examining burns required sight and so Toru was the only one who could treat herself since she was the only one who could see herself.
The morning classes ended and lunch began, or as Toru thought of it 'social warfare'. Lunch was the period where people could develop the most bonds after all.
She sat in her usual group of Ashido and Asui.
"Buying lunch rush's food again, Mina?" Tsuyu asked as Mina joined them at the table.
Most students bought lunch. Lunch rush's cooking was something that magazines and articles praised even outside of UA. Toru didn't think much of it, but she liked to pretend she was enjoying the delicious food sometimes commenting on how sweet it was or how nice it smelled. Food was food after all and she wasn't picky. She had grown up eating quite literally trash.
"Of course! It has all the nutrition I need and it's delicious." Mina gave a thumbs up. "When are you going to start buying lunch like the rest of us, Tsuyu?"
Tsuyu shrugged and unfolded her packed lunch. "My father and mother were worried UA's food wouldn't have the nutrients I need as a frog. It's designed more for human stomachs after all. I'm sure I'll start eating it eventually but I appreciate my packed food."
Mina's face turned slightly pale as Tsuyu took her chopsticks to pick up some of her fried grasshoppers. Tsuyu looked like she was enjoying herself.
"Your's looks yummy, Tsuyu! I think if your mom and dad want to pack you lunch it's very sweet." Toru reassured her.
Mina's jaw dropped a little bit. She didn't say anything though because she didn't want to be rude.
Tsuyu seemed to realize what she was thinking. "Insects are very nutritious. And they're crisp. Have you ever tried one? Maybe it wouldn't be as bad as you think." It seemed like she had gotten bugged about eating bugs before.
Mina shook her head and covered her mouth as if nauseous.
"I'll try one." Toru offered knowing she'd win points with Tsuyu.
Tsuyu smiled and handed Toru a fried grasshopper on her plate. "There you are."
Toru quickly swallowed it down. "It's good!"
Mina shook her head. "Braver than me."
Tsuyu shot Toru a grateful glance. "Thank you. None of my humanoid friends have tried eating my diet before." It meant a lot to her and Toru knew she had made the right choice.
As Tsuyu lathered praise on her cuisine, Jiro and Yaoyorozu walked up to the group.
"Can we sit here?" Jiro asked. Yaoyorozu was distracted balancing her five lunch plates all over her arms.
"Sure. The more the merrier!" Mina gestured for them to both sit.
Good. Adding more allies to our lunch group will be good. Toru thought to herself. She wanted to cultivate a positive relationship with all the females in the class to bring her persona of 'friendly girl' up. She hadn't had many chances yet to bring Jiro and Yaoyorozu into the fold.
Yaoyorozu plopped herself down with all her meals.
"Thanks." Jiro said. "There wasn't room anywhere else for all of Yaomomo's meals."
Tsuyu looked at all the meals. "Big appetite?"
"A little bit." Yaoyorozu nodded. "My quirk requires I use the lipids in my body to create things. So I have to always eat a huge amount to generate my creation without injuring myself. Luckily because I'm always using the energy I always feel hungry so I'm not forcing myself to eat too much."
That's interesting. So, without access to food for even a day she'd be useless. Not only that but you can make her over use her creation. Toru noted.
"Well, we're happy to have you and all your meals! And just ask if you want a bite of any of our food." Toru offered. "I'm happy to share."
Yaoyorozu smiled. "Thank you, Hagakure. That's very kind of you. All the people in class A are very kind and I am grateful for that."
"You mean all the girls. I could do without some of the boys." Jiro corrected glancing over at the table Kaminari and Mineta were eating at. She laughed at her own joke.
This is too easy to settle into pretend pleasantries with them. It was easy to be social with Yaoyorozu and Jiro.
Yaoyorozu started talking about Lunch Rush's cooking to try to make light conversation. "It's really very good! I was surprised. I was wondering what cafeteria food would be like at UA but it's on the level of my personal chef. I'm very pleased with it."
"Uhhh…Your what?" Mina asked blinking. She couldn't relate to the richness of having a personal chef.
Well, I suppose although Yaoyorozu is nice she's still a little stuck up. Toru recalled Yaoyorozu lecturing everyone on what they had done wrong during the combat training. She clearly lives in a different world, but it should be easy enough to play nice.
Toru glanced over at the table Uraraka was at the last girl in class 1-A that she hadn't made much contact with. It would be nice if she started eating lunch with us too…. But that wasn't likely to happen.
Uraraka seemed happy where she was, next to Midoriya and Iida. She seemed perfectly friendly and looked to be telling a joke to both of them which Midoriya forgot to laugh at and then laughed at too loud to try to fit in. By the way he moved and fumbled it was pretty clear he hadn't interacted with many girls before and was getting overwhelmed.
I suppose when I make light conversation with Midoriya I should take note of that and put some physical distance between us and try not to be too close. I want him to think of me too little not too much. Toru went back to her meal with that thought as Yaoyorozu continued talking about expensive ingredients and comparing the food to five-star restaurants. Mina always responded to her and it was like they had already settled into an easy lunch routine.
Things were going smoothly.
Class ended. USJ would be tomorrow. And none of Toru's classmates knew what was looming in front of them.
"That'll be all. You can go home now. Remember to do your homework." Aizawa said looking at the bell.
The students got up and gathered their things in their bags. Aizawa yawned as if he was ready to head home and sleep too. Then his eyes opened wider.
"Oh…Before I forget. Hagakure, talk to me for a second after class." Aizawa said as an after thought as if he had almost forgotten.
Mina shot Toru a worried glance but all the other students didn't pay much attention to Toru's name being called. It wasn't them that needed to stay longer after all and they mostly streamed past the door.
Toru pretended to look calm as she casually walked over to Aizawa's desk, but inside she was trying to figure out what Aizawa needed to speak to her about.
Is he suspicious of my absence during the reporters breaking in? Toru wondered. Did Mei reveal that I was outside during the lockdown? Or did Principal Nezu figure out I opened the door? No, if it was any of that Aizawa wouldn't have almost forgotten to speak to her. He wouldn't be yawning; he would have arrested her as soon as possible to eliminate.
Is it something less serious than like that I need a parent or guardian signature for something in UA? That would certainly cause me problems but I could deal with it. The league of villains could invent records of a fake person attached to a fake signature if need be.
She looked at Aizawa's still bored face as he yawned again, about to give her answers to what he had called on her for.
"Shoji explained to me what you two want to do. I usually am not in favor of two people becoming training partners or something. It creates too much of a dependence on working with one other hero instead of many…" Aizawa started straightening some papers as he rambled.
Ah. So it's about the Shoji thing. She had forgotten that Shoji wanted to train together on Sundays. "Usually?"
"But our school motto is Plus Ultra. We want our students to take the initiative and get better. So as long as you two don't partner up in optional training exercises it should be fine." Aizawa glanced at her. It wasn't clear if Toru was giving him a blank expression or confused expression so he continued. "Ah so for example, I'd discourage you two to partner up during the sports festival."
UA's Sports tournament happened a month after classes started usually. There were various levels of it to display the talents of the third, second and first years. The first years were the least polished and always got the most injures but were also what many people were most excited for.
Toru had watched it every year after turning 8. All for One told her it was important to learn how to examine and analyze the media and the weaknesses of heroes on screen. Unlike what normal children probably felt towards it she didn't have a hint of excitement about competing in it.
"Got it!" She smiled. "So you'll let us train together? Really Mr. Aizawa?"
Aizawa sighed. He then pulled out a drawer in his desk. "I've talked it over with the Principal and you two will be allowed on the grounds on Sundays." He handed her a key. "I already gave one to Shoji when he proposed this, but I wasn't sure how in the loop you were. I was going to give you this yesterday but I was too busy dealing with the police after yesterday's…incident." He groaned and rubbed his hand on his face. He was tired.
"What's this?" Toru played dumb, holding the sparkling key in her hand.
"Key to gym C. It's where you did the sit up exam." Aizawa explained. "You two should both have permission to go through the gate so you should have all the permissions you need to train together."
"AWW THANK YOU!" Toru fake almost hugged him, but stopped herself in midair. "I won't let you down, I'll train extra hard!"
Aizawa had a hint of a smile. "See that you do. After all it looks like you'll probably have a hard time in this class." He said it casually. Too casually.
Toru paused. "What do you mean by that?" She asked tilting her head to the side. Is he mocking me? Saying I'm not good enough or something for the hero course?
Aizawa blinked for a moment and a look of mortification came upon his face as if he was realizing something hadn't occurred to Toru. He looked like he was thinking as if trying to figure out how to explain this. "Listen…Quirks…Have you...…" He was trying to figure out how to choose his words carefully. "In the entrance exam did you struggle at all? Beating those robots? I wasn't able to look up your score. Principal Nezu opted not to give it to me."
Ah. He means I'll struggle because I don't have a combat-oriented quirk. She had wondered why Aizawa had chosen to do such a discriminatory quirk exam on their first day when he didn't have a combat quirk himself. She smiled. "Well, it was hard of course, but I managed to sneak up on the robots and tear their wiring out. I was lucky enough that they had an off switch in visible range from the ground."
Aizawa nodded. "Principal Nezu must have designed it that way to give quirkless students an avenue to gain points. That wasn't the way things were back in my day. How many points did you end up scoring?"
"I defeated 15 level 2 robots…But nobody could see me on the cameras so I wasn't given a score." Toru admitted.
Aizawa frowned. He rubbed his forehead. "Okay….So you are aware somewhat that quirks like yours have a harder time in this kind of school."
"Invisible quirks?" Toru questioned, playing dumb.
"NO! I meant…" Aizawa frowned. "Non-combat oriented ones. We actually haven't ever had any other invisible students." He paused trying to gauge from Toru's body language how disappointed she was from hearing that non-combat quirk students had a harder time.
Toru slumped her shoulders visibly to give Aizawa the reaction he wanted.
He sighed. "Listen, you can't delude yourself or anything about this sort of thing. Non-combat quirk students are going to have a harder time in the hero course. These are the facts. I had to deal with it when I was a student so—"
"So I have to deal with it too—" Toru pretended to sniffle. Seems mean to take your anger out on your students.
"We just don't have the tools yet to know how to accurately judge students with quirks like ours to see if they're hero material. The robots are the best thing we have now to limit injuries of normal kids." Aizawa tried to explain. He looked frantic as Toru continued to sniffle. He got out several tissues and handed them to her.
He had a deep sigh his eyes were saying he had stepped onto a land mind over what he had accidentally said.
She dabbed her eyes. By the tone of his voice and how he's trying to relate to me it sounds a little bit like he disapproves of the current system but hasn't been allowed to change it. I'm guessing the teachers with more authority than him are happy with the current test so they haven't changed it in anyway.
"Now I'm not…I'm not saying quit or anything like that. I'm just saying that it's a reality you're going to have to face that you'll have a harder path forward than the rest of our students. So naturally, I'm in favor of you getting some extra training in." Aizawa looked like he was trying very much to lower his voice so he didn't make a student cry. "I know it's tough. I've been there too, but I want to help you. I'm your teacher after all."
Toru stopped fake sniffling. She then looked directly at Aizawa. "If you were so concerned with my future why did you have a quirk exam that held the same discriminatory tactics that you dislike so much on the first day of class? Why did you threaten me with expulsion if I didn't perform at a higher level than the students with flashy quirks? You must have known I was at a disadvantage." She tried to muffle her voice a little as if she was asking out of emotional frustration, instead of having the cold hard truth she had been wondering about since starting at this so called 'hero school.' She was genuinely just curious about his answer and how heroes justified themselves over their discrimination.
Aizawa looked like he had been slapped for a moment and thought about that one. "I…I was never going to expel any of the students, as Yaoyorozu said it was a ruse to get all the students to do their best."
"That's a lie." Toru replied. "I heard in the hallways some second years talking about how you had expelled all of last year's class. And even if there's more to the story than that it still felt harsh to have that exam. After all I was at a clear disadvantage compared to my classmates. If I had come in last place instead of Midoriya, you'd have expelled me, wouldn't you have?"
Aizawa looked stunned and then frowned momentarily regaining his air of authority. It was as if he had to shake back into his head the fact that he was debating this with a student instead of a co-worker. "I would not have. That test…Wasn't for you." He admitted reluctantly.
"It was for Midoriya. I do not like to have students that can injure themselves or others. They're not hero material. It was never about your physical abilities. Just about how you used your quirks." He rubbed his head again. "I should have called you aside and had this conversation with you the first day but I was too busy dealing with Midoriya's problems…" He looked at Toru again. "I'm…Sorry if you felt you were being unfairly judged."
Toru wasn't expecting that. Do…Heroes really apologize when they do wrong? Or is he using this to escape his wrongdoing? Apologizing could be a manipulation tactic after all. She had learned that quite well from her year in middle school hanging out with other girls.
"O-okay." Toru was genuinely caught off guard.
Aizawa looked pained. "I will try to come up with something for you. A training regimen or something. I usually do that for my non-combat quirk students…Although all of my suggestions have involved the use of weaponry and you rely on your stealth…" He frowned thinking again. "And you can't make other things invisible?"
"Nope." Toru shook her head. "If I could my costume wouldn't be pretty much nothing."
Aizawa looked uncomfortable at the realization that he was sending a student into battle naked, repeatedly. He put that out of his head. "I'll think up something. In the meantime, train with Shoji. And know…That although a lot of my time is spent on students who injure themselves and others, I am thinking about all my students. And I'll figure out something for you."
Toru slowly nodded. She wasn't expecting any of this honestly.
And with that Aizawa let her out of the room.
When Toru got home, she checked her cell phone for messages from All for One before getting a head start on any homework.
For once there was a message saying one call missed. She quickly called her Master hurriedly.
"Ah, Toru." All for One picked up the phone after a few minutes. "I was just checking in for a report on getting information on any field trips."
Toru nodded. "I assumed Shigaraki had already told you. All Might will be teaching a class tomorrow at USJ. I believe the plan is for Shigaraki to attack then?"
"Yes, yes. I have shared with him the details of the plan, although I suppose I can share them with you as well, so you aren't particularly surprised. He will be taking 66 villains from our league, Kurogiri, and a Nomu I have allotted him to USJ to attack your class and All Might."
Toru listened closely.
"I hope you haven't gotten particularly attached to any of the students." All for One said.
"If they die, they die. It just means they were that weak." Toru replied. She tried not to think of Mina or Tsuyu. Or Tokoyami. They were all fake friends anyway. She didn't really care for them. They were tools to further her image as a normal girl.
All for One laughed at the casual attitude. "Although I can't scold your desire for blood, I do have to tell you it's likely they won't die."
Toru blinked. "But…A Nomu, 66 villains and Shigaraki should be an ample force."
"Yes, yes. It could be possible for them to die and Shigaraki to triumph of course, but you have to remember, Toru that All Might beat me once. He'll be joined this time with Eraserhead and Thirteen. Do you really think Shigaraki stands a chance?"
Toru shook her head. "N-no…Then…Why are we attacking if there's no chance for success?"
All for One laughed again as if he was seeing a child ask why the sky was blue. "You must think of the long term, Toru. It's for Shigaraki's sake. To train him as a worthy successor."
Toru didn't reply and was just silent.
"This is a test for Shigaraki to see how well he does with the forces provided. How much damage he does, how well he uses the Nomu." All for One explained. "If he does well perhaps one of your classmates will die—"
I hope it's Mineta. Toru couldn't help but hope. She was sure if she said that out loud though her Master would scold her for having personal grudges.
"But likely not. That's where you come in." All for One told her.
Toru stood firm waiting for instruction. "Do you want me to stab All Might in the back while he's not looking?"
"No, no. An injury like that through all of All Might's muscle would do barely anything." All for One scolded, "I want you to go invisible and watch Shigaraki the entire time. He'll of course tell me what he did but he could be rather biased or not detailed enough. I want you to spy on Shigaraki and compile an exact recounting of what happened so that I can know what he did wrong."
Toru gulped. "So…I'm grading and going up against Shigaraki." She didn't know if she liked the idea of giving Shigaraki another reason to hate her.
"You can of course give Shigaraki a sign that you're there. It should be no surprise that I've sent you to watch and aid him. If he is surprised, why that's another flaw that he's encountered then. But I want you to stay around Shigaraki and watch him. Be careful though not to get knocked out or seriously injured. If you need to escape, I give you permission to do that since it would give you away if one of All Might's long range attacks hit you." All for One instructed.
Toru nodded. "I'll do my best, sir." She had gotten quite a lot of surprises today. The USJ incident wouldn't actually be as serious as she was picturing, and she was placed in an authority role to grade Shigaraki of all people.
It was a lot to process and with that the call ended so she could prepare for the next very big day.
The next day came. It was 12:50 when the news arrived about USJ.
"Today's basic hero training has turned into a course with three instructors. All Might, me and one other." Aizawa read off his clipboard, keeping thirteen's identity a fun little surprise.
A lot of people in the class looked surprised by the number of teachers that would be present. Some look excited.
"What will we be doing?" Sero raised his hand asking.
"Rescue training. Shipwrecks, floods, fires, and everything in between." Aizawa looked pleased with himself.
Mina grinned. Tsuyu looked ecstatic. Jiro was shocked. "So early?" She asked.
A lot of the students knew this was what they would primarily be doing once they became heroes. So, it was exciting to start training with it.
Lots of chatter started among the students.
"I don't even want to learn stupid rescue stuff. I want to beat up villains." Bakugo huffed from behind Toru.
"Hey, I'm not done!" Aizawa quieted down the class. "You can choose whether or not you'll be wearing your costumes or not." He glanced briefly at Toru, and then Momo. Both of who he was now aware had to wear revealing costumes.
Since it was just training, he probably assumed Toru didn't need her costume.
I have to be invisible though. Because I know what's going to happen. She appreciated the gesture but unfortunately it couldn't be used.
Aizawa pressed a button to bring the costumes out from their drawers in the wall. "We'll be taking a bus because the training will take place off campus."
"A field trip! So exciting!" Mina raised her arms and grinned.
"That is all." Aizawa frowned. "Start getting ready." And he left to leave people to change into their costumes.
So I just have to endure one naked bus ride and then the heroes will be attacked and I'll see if any of them die. Toru got up. Goody.
She had ridden the bus invisible before. But it had always been on the roof of the bus to avoid anyone possibly tripping on her. Sometimes she climbed into a window during long bus rides with minimal stops to get an empty seat but very rarely.
It was something she could do when nobody even knew she was there, but it was sure to be horrendous when they did know.
Just let a girl sit next to me. Please let a girl sit next to me. She begged. She knew she hadn't cared if any of them had died a second ago, but she really didn't want to sit with Mineta. That would be the worst-case scenario.
If I have to sit by Mineta I might murder him before the villains come and screw the whole thing up. She clenched her hands together and continuously prayed.
"You chose to wear your costume?" Mina asked stunned as Toru came outside. "Isn't…That going to be awkward sitting on a bus with no underwear?" She whispered under her breath.
"Aizawa didn't really give us an option to change once we got there." Toru laughed nervously trying to pretend she wasn't incredibly uncomfortable too. "And my quirk really only works if I'm fully invisible. If I'm not I'm just a normal person trying to help people out of shipwrecks."
"Maybe for rescue being a normal person is exactly what you need to do?" Mina suggested. "I'm not quite sure how invisibility benefits natural disasters…"
"Ah shoot! I thought maybe I'd be able to hide from the rain or fires or something but you're totally right!" Toru wildly shook her hands like she had accidentally been incredibly dumb.
"It's all right." Mina smiled. "It's probably a good idea to get some training in your costume anyway since you'll have to save people on the job in that costume."
Toru frowned at that bit of information. Glad I'm not actually going to be a hero. I'd hate having to carry people naked. The skin-to-skin contact would just feel so gross.
She looked around to make sure Mineta wasn't staring at her. Luckily but unluckily for Uraraka he was dreamily gazing at Uraraka's skintight suit. Yaoyorozu seemed to notice and was grappling with herself whether to scold him or not.
A few of the other boys seemed to be noticing Toru though. Some like Ojiro were making specific motions to not look at her, others like Kaminari seemed to be grappling with the fact that there was quite literally nothing to see.
Iida got them all into a line meaning she couldn't stand and chat with Mina anymore.
Ah oh no…I missed my chance to ask Mina or Tsuyu to sit by me. Well, I'm sure I can sit by one of them. Mina wouldn't leave me alone. She was sure Mina had picked up on the fact that she was uncomfortable. After all Mina was her self-proclaimed friend. And a friend wouldn't let her naked friend sit alone, right?
She let her naked friend sit alone.
Toru frowned. Mina and Tsuyu had decided to sit in the big horizontal seats in the middle with Midoriya and Aoyama of all people. Perhaps it was Mina's guilt at burning Aoyama's cape before. Kirishima, Sato, Iida and Midoriya sat with them.
Jiro had decided to sit next to Bakugo for some reason and listen to her ipod.
Was I somehow less sociable than Bakugo of all people? Why didn't she sit next to me? Toru felt frustration and anger at being left alone naked to fend for herself on a bus.
Yaoyorozu had sat next to Uraraka, likely because she had spied Mineta looking leerily at Uraraka the entire trip onto the bus. Yaoyorozu got a small pass in Toru's mind for abandoning her since she was clearly trying to protect another girl.
As Toru frantically tried to look for a seat that was empty and wasn't by Mineta she eventually realized she'd have to sit next to a boy. Because of the amount of time she had spent frantically looking for a seat she had to just dart into the first one available that wasn't by Mineta.
It was by Todoroki of all people. He was somehow already drifting off to sleep. She sat down and put her hands on her lap freezing as much as he could so nobody would even notice her on the bus.
It seemed to be successful since Todoroki didn't even open his eyes or realize that someone was sitting by him.
Maybe this is for the best. I think I can get through this if nobody even realizes I'm here. Toru decided. And nobody seemed to.
It was a twenty-minute bus ride. Toru spent that entire time frozen solid to her seat, metaphorically despite the fact that she was sitting next to someone with an ice quirk.
She was as quiet as possible and as still as possible cradling herself away from the panic attack. Every time the bus bumped, she frantically looked around as if worried someone like Mineta had noticed she was there and had decided to take advantage of that fact. But nobody seemed to notice.
In fact, when the bus stopped and Aizawa woke up from his nap as well he looked around momentarily and looked briefly horrified at the fact that he counted only 19 students. He then spotted Toru's gloves by Todoroki and breathed a sigh of relief.
Todoroki woke up and stood up.
"Oh, wait a moment, Todoroki. Let me get out first. I don't want you to trip on me after all." Toru told him before he could dart out of the bus.
Todoroki's eyes widened. He hadn't been aware that Toru was even sitting by him. He didn't comment at all on the nakedness, it apparently didn't occur to him that she was naked. "Oh. Okay. Sorry I was a boring bus partner."
"Not at all! It was fine! I liked listening to Midoriya and Tsuyu talk to one another!" Toru waved her hand and lied.
She hadn't been listening. She had mostly been keeping away her own panic attack.
Todoroki gave a stiff nod and waited for her to go first.
Once they got out of the bus, Thirteen was waiting for them.
They opened their arms. "I've been waiting for you."
Uraraka got really excited. "It's the space hero, thirteen!" She must have been a fan.
Toru got into place with the rest of class. She hastily side stepped away from Mineta before he noticed her and followed Thirteen into USJ.
The students gasped as they entered USJ seeing the huge area. It looked like a theme park designed specifically for heroes.
"A shipwreck, a landslide, a fire, a windstorm, etc. I designed all of these as a training ground for heroes featuring different accidents and disasters." Thirteen opened their arms proudly. "It is called the Unforeseen Simulation Joint."
Toru noticed that All Might wasn't waiting inside with Thirteen. As the students looked at the large area excitedly, she watched Aizawa go up to Thirteen.
"Where's All Might?" He asked. "He was supposed to meet us here."
Thirteen got closer as if to whisper to Aizawa. Toru listened close.
"About that…He did too much hero work on his way here and will be running late." They held up three of their fingers.
Oh…Oh Shigaraki's chances of murdering all of them just went up extremely. Toru frowned. Clearly the heroes didn't know they were about to be attacked but they really didn't have good security to protect the students in case of villain attacks.
Their hubris would be the end of them.
"He's resting in the lounge." Thirteen said vaguely.
"That's the height of irrationality." Aizawa sighed. "It can't be helped though, shall we begin?"
We shall. Toru frowned, knowing the attack was happening any second based on the timing she had given.
"Before we begin, I should say a few things, one, two or five things…" Thirteen said, unaware that any second villains would attack "I'm sure you are aware of my quirk black hole. I can suck up anything and turn it to dust."
Yes, I've researched it. It can easily kill. Perhaps thirteen would still have a fighting chance against Shigaraki. Perhaps.
"You've used that quirk to suck up various natural disasters!" Midoriya explained, excitedly knowing about all sorts of things.
"Yes, but it's also a quirk that can easily kill. Some of you also have quirks like that, right?"
Some of the students looked stunned. Bakugo didn't seem fazed.
"In a superhuman society certain quirks have been highly regulated so that doesn't seem to be a problem at first glance. But please do not forget there are many quirks that can easily kill with one wrong step." Thirteen lectured.
Just because they're highly regulated doesn't mean that it makes the dangerous quirks go away. I've seen Shigaraki destroy many forks, glasses and other things on sheer accident. Toru thought to herself.
"With Aizawa's physical test you found out about the hidden aspects of your powers. And with All Might's combat test you found out about the danger of using those powers against others. This class is a fresh start. You will use your quirks to save people. You do not have powers to harm others. You have them to save lives." A very classic hero lecture. "That is all, thank you for listening." Thirteen bowed.
People cheered. Bakugo, who Toru was standing next to just huffed.
"All right, first-" Aizawa was about to point to where they would go.
Kurogiri's warp gate appeared at the fountain. Toru decided to make the lights flicker for extra affect, turning them off briefly.
Aizawa spun around as soon as danger appeared.
Shigaraki entered through the warp gate. An image of Kurogiri's body in a suit stood next to him, even though part of Kurogiri's body was being used as the warp gate. To outsiders the two images didn't look connected.
"Gather together and don't move!" Aizawa screamed. "Thirteen protect the students."
Some of the students seemed puzzled.
"Is this a surprise exam?" Kaminari sighed.
Midoriya almost moved to look.
"Don't move! This isn't an exam!" Aizawa screeched. "Those are real villains!"
Villain after villain left Kurogiri's body.
Aizawa put his goggles on to show the students how serious it was.
Everybody froze, expressions of horror on each of their faces, except Toru's that was.
I suppose I should play the part of a horrified schoolgirl correctly until the time for us to separate, huh? Good luck classmates of mine. She smiled and screamed with the rest of them.
It was time to see how much the heroes could stand.
This whole fic is me being like "why does Toru have to be naked constantly."
Some notes about this chapter! I had to watch the bus scene in the anime several times to get people's seating placements. I still do not know where Toru was but I decided to place her next to Todoroki considering what happens in USJ and how she says she was with Todoroki the whole time despite him thinking to herself that he didn't notice her. I considered putting her next to Tokoyami instead for no reason except that I want more Tokoyami in this story because he's my fave but Todoroki won out.
At this point in the fic when I was writing it Aizawa wasn't going to be particularly important to the fic, now he's become a major character in my outlines due to multiple reasons.
Anyway please review!
