Trigger warning for this chapter! It has some transphobia mentions.

In the two free days Class A had, Toru spent them training and keeping her body in an actual good condition and keeping updated about the news with Ingenium. She also tried to recall what she knew about Bakugo and recall what hobbies he had besides just being violent. What should she get into to try to befriend him? She didn't know.

She also did quite a bit of research on the hero agencies in Kamino and around the Kamino area in case Aizawa forced them into internships.

During the middle of the second day the news finally started reporting on Ingenium's condition. He had been attacked by Stain and would be retiring due to a career ending spinal cord injury. He could no longer run like the turbo heroes before him.

I bet support companies are frustrated about that. After all, Ingenium has engine arms and not engine legs. Shouldn't a well-designed wheelchair let him continue his hero work? She wondered if Mei had any takes on that. She'd have to ask. And maybe there was more to the story of his retirement besides his injury. Maybe he had grown weary of being a hero.

It doesn't actually bother me that he quit. After all less heroes in the world is good for the league. And more trauma in my classmates makes them easier to mold if All for One needs them. She reminded herself. She just thought the quitting and tears was a bit silly.

The two free days passed rather uneventfully.

It was raining the day school resumed. It was a dreary and ugly day.

Rainy days are such a hindrance. Toru thought as she walked under her umbrella. She wouldn't claim they put her in a bad mood, but they did make her feel useless. The rain always revealed her location because there would be a silhouette where no rain fell. It made it harder to do her spy work. She was always the most useless to All for One on rainy days.

Perhaps if she had known this secret years ago when she was homeless, she could have been found sooner. Now that she had given up her humanity though under the service of All for One rainy days were always the biggest detriment to her powers.

During her walk to school people took more notice of her than they usually did, likely due to the sports festival.

"It's the invisible girl from UA. Isn't it great how we'll have a naked superhero again? I mean how else will she use her quirk? It sucks how the government censored Midnight…"

"I wonder what she really looks like…"

"She's a bit of a slut for taking off her top in the sports festival, right?"

All of the comments about Toru were about her looks. As All for One warned her there were all sorts of freaks into people like her.

I'm probably getting less attention than my other classmates, because I've only noticed creepy dudes talking about me or looking at me, but it still sucks what they're saying. That was why Mineta made her so uncomfortable, because his comments fell right in line with these adults gawking at her.

She hoped their interest would fade over time. Creepy dudes were not the majority of people in the streets, but she sort of wished people were talking about anything to do with her that wasn't her looks.

I bet Yaoyorozu isn't yet experiencing the same thing…She hadn't revealed her hero costume yet publicly. But because Toru had removed her shirt publicly freaks were already taking notice of her.

She felt a little isolated, knowing that none of her classmates were experiencing the same thing since they had all been in their gym clothes. Still, some people cat called people even if they were fully covered up and clothed so perhaps some of them were experiencing her pain. The men were likely being congratulated on the sports festival saying they tried their best while the women risked having their appearance be the main focus of the conversation.

Toru could only hope creepy men like the ones who had spoken about her became casualties in a villain attack. All she could do was imagine their deaths.

The world is infested with Minetas. That's why he gets away with so much, because what he does is normalized.

Something she remembered someone complaining about on the street was that if a villain harassed a female and made her feel unsafe a hero would take them out and come to the rescue, but if a hero harassed a female and made her feel unsafe there was nothing anyone could do. Heroes didn't protect people from other heroes after all.

Harsh abuse tends to turn more people towards villainy than heroics. And sexual harassment is just a different sort of abuse. It would be beneficial for heroes to pay attention to these sorts of issues, but I don't think they do. It's not big and flashy like battles after all.

It wasn't up to Toru to point out the flaws in the system though. Her job was to just watch hero society and observe.

She continued on her way to class, walking with only her thoughts to bring her comfort from everyone's stares.

The classroom was abuzz with excitement. The rain didn't seem to dampen anyone's mood. From a brief scan of her female classmate's faces, Toru assumed that none of them had the same experience she had had on her way to school. She went over to chat with Mina and Tsuyu as was her normal morning ritual.

"So many people talked to me on the way here!" Mina was all smiles, and a hugely chipper attitude.

Maybe I was making assumptions that weren't true. I guess it's good that strangers recognized Mina's abilities instead of her appearance. Toru thought to herself. All of the girls except for Yaoyorozu seemed in rather good moods.

Hers might not be from harassment though. She's probably trapped in her head over her quick loss in the sports festival. I knew all her confidence would come crashing down badly. I guess we're in the era of Momo insecurities now. Toru thought.

"Me too!" Kirishima agreed excitedly.

"People were staring at me, too. It was kind of embarrassing." Toru decided to speak up. I don't need to mention what actually happened. It doesn't win me any favors to be the only one who's different. I need to just go with the crowd and pretend to be a cute girl.

"Isn't that normal for you, Hagakure?" Ojiro asked, clearly stunned that Toru seemed to be so dense that she didn't realize being invisible was relatively rare.

"I had some elementary schoolers come up to me and say, "Don't worry about it!" Sero complained, referencing his quick loss against Todoroki that many people said was unavoidable.

"Don't worry about it!" Tsuyu responded trying to cheer him up.

Sero started screaming in gloom and frustration.

"After just one day we've really been thrust into the spotlight, huh?" Kaminari cheerfully said standing next to his bff Mineta.

"UA really is amazing!" Mineta agreed.

The chatter died down as Aizawa opened the door and came into the classroom. Everyone who had been standing around chatting quickly rushed to their seat.

Aizawa's bandages were missing. There was a large scar underneath his eye but that was all that remained of his injuries.

I bet because of the head beating he got that he probably can't keep his eyes open as long though. I hope some permanent damage remains. Hopefully USJ wasn't just pointless.

"Your bandages are finally gone, Mr. Aizawa. I'm glad!" Tsuyu immediately brightened up with the reminder of USJ gone.

She probably feels guilty about his injuries since he saved her life. Without the bandages she's not constantly reminded of her biggest trauma. Toru noted just how happy Tsuyu's voice was, happier and more relieved than she had ever heard her express before.

"The old lady went overboard with her treatment." He commented "More importantly we have an important hero information class today." There was a pause as everyone's anticipation built up.

Hero information…Something not important, I'm guessing. He doesn't have an evil glint in his eyes so it's not a quiz…

Aizawa played with his bangs. "We're choosing code names." He finished.

Oh. How boring. I think I'll think of something average and boring like Invisible girl since it's not important to me in the least bit. Toru thought to herself. She wasn't planning to ever use this name after all.

Everyone else looked super excited. After all hero names were a big deal in hero society. It was what would be their brand for life, or their name for the rest of time. They might even use their hero's name more than their real name. They were raising their arms in excitement and cheering.

Toru had read a few articles that some transgender heroes really liked this, since they could choose their own name for themselves and their brand would stick to it rather than their deadname.

There was a clear privilege that trans heroes had over other trans individuals though. Due to the amount of money heroes made they could secure the funds for transitioning or hormones. The news would refer to them by their chosen hero's name instead of their dead name, while for a non-hero transgender person they would continue referring to them by the dead name.

This had drawn many transgender youths to try out for hero schools under hope that they would have a better life.

People have to choose if they become heroes by the time, they enter high school though so people who realize they're trans later in life don't have those options. Toru recalled. There were more than a few trans villains who had turned to villainy just to get the money they required, or because they felt rejected by society.

Despite all this good hero names brought; Toru could only think of a single big name trans hero: Tiger from the Wild Wild Pussycats.

Heroes want all the praise lately for being trans friendly but don't want to put in the effort of recruiting more trans heroes. Heroes really couldn't do a single thing good, could they?

"Be quiet." Aizawa glared at all the excited students, his eyes glimmering red for a second as he canceled quirks. "This is related to the pro hero draft picks I mentioned the other day." Aizawa continued once things were quiet, "The drafts begin in earnest in the second and third years after students have gained more experience and can become immediate assets to the pros."

From my research UA has a death count. Most of their dead students die in their second year from interning. They hadn't had any deaths in the last few years, but Toru was still confused why they continued to let second years intern when their death count was more than 1. Had they not been sued or something?

"In other words, for them to extend offers for first years like you, shows that they are interested in your future potential. Those offers are often cancelled if their interest dies down by graduation."

Internships don't usually happen in their first year because of the danger…I wonder what happened? Toru thought. Her best guess was that pro hero kids like Todoroki, Iida, Yaoyorozu and Kaminari had brought up the desirability of the entire first years and had given everyone the chance to intern early. Yayyyyyyy.

Famous hero kids like Todoroki were just making her job harder.

"So we'll have to prove ourselves once we get picked, huh?" Toru asked allowed, making sure she had the information clear on how to get interest to die down.

"That's right." Aizawa looked rather uninterested in answering questions. He moved on to the next portion.

"And here are the totals for those with offers."

A bar graph was projected onto the chalkboard.

Todoroki, Bakugo, Tokoyami and Iida in that order got the most offers. Todoroki got a total of 4,123 offers from different agencies even though he hadn't won the sports festival.

That is a lot of pro hero agencies…Toru's eyes bugged out a little bit at the sheer amount of heroes.

Bakugo had gotten 3,556 offers. Tokoyami only had 360. Iida despite being from a famous pro hero legacy only got 301. It was probably due to the recent articles about Ingenium's defeat.

Pro's probably aren't jumping all over Iida because they think his family is about to fall out of being famous due to injury.

Kaminari had 272 offers even though he had lost very quickly in his first round.

Kaminari's another pro hero kid. I think his mom is rather powerful or something. He probably received more offers due to that. Or people want to use him as a charger or something. Toru reminded herself.

Yaoyorozu had 108 offers. Kirishima, 68. Uraraka had 20, and Sero had a whole 14.

Mina did better than Uraraka, Yaoyorozu and Sero. I wonder why she didn't get any offers. Toru noticed.

Sure, enough when she glanced across the classroom, Mina was glaring daggers at the chalkboard as if glaring at it would make offers appear.

Midoriya hadn't gotten any offers either, probably because pro's were afraid of a 'bone exploding' quirk.

"In other years, it's been more spread out. But all eyes were on these two this year." Aizawa pointed to Todoroki and Bakugo's names.

"GAH! There's such a difference!" Kaminari complained.

"Those pro's don't know a good thing when they see one." Aoyama steamed.

"Todoroki's first and Bakugo's second?" Jiro said curiously.

"It's the opposite of their placement in the sports festival." Kirishima concluded.

"Some people are too scared to ask a guy who had to be restrained on the podium to train with them." Sero whispered to Kirishima.

"What are the pro's scared of!?" Bakugo turned around and yelled at Sero, looking like he would explode him.

The class had quickly erupted into gossip. Some people were complimenting Todoroki or complaining and some people were happy because they got offers.

"Keeping those results in mind, whether or not anyone asked for you, you will all be participating in internships with pros." Aizawa revealed.

I was expecting this thanks to Master. But I still don't like hearing it. Toru thought.

"At USJ you all got to experience combat against real villains, but it will still be meaningful training for you to see pros work firsthand." Aizawa answered.

"So that's how it loops back to the code names!" Sato realized. "The internships are important to them."

"Well, those hero names are only temporary currently. But if you're not serious about it…" Aizawa trailed off.

"There will be hell to pay later!" The door opened and Midnight walked in. "Because a lot of hero names that get used by students get recognized by society, they end up becoming their professional names."

"Well, that's how it is." Aizawa said simply as if he knew this lesson all too well.

So that's how he became Eraserhead. By being a student who just didn't take this seriously. Toru realized.

"Midnight will be making sure your hero names are okay. I can't do stuff like that." He grabbed his sleeping bag off the ground.

"When you give yourself a name you get a more concrete image of what you want to be like in the future and you can get closer to it. That is what they mean when they say, "Names and natures often agree." Like All Might for example." Aizawa finished before bolting for the floor to sleep.

Yeah, his name means he's strong. I get it. Toru rolled her eyes.

Midnight gave her a stack of whiteboards to pass back in her row.

"Okay, lets start presenting names starting with those who are ready." Midnight announced. They hadn't been given that long to think up their names, but it didn't require that long to name yourself.

People looked nervous at the realization that they'd have to present their names to the class. Toru wasn't too nervous about presenting invisible girl.

Why is Midnight here to judge us? It's our names. Does this imply there are names she simply won't like and reject? Toru thought. Was there a standard hero names needed to be held to?

Aoyama went up first to present his. "Here I go…Shining Hero: I CAN NOT STOP TWINKLING!" He stated proudly. "Which means, you can not stop my sparkles." He translated for his classmates who could not speak English well yet.

"It will be easier to use if you take out the I and shorten the can not to can't." Midnight advised, trying to make the sentence more bearable.

His new name was, Can't Stop Twinkling.

I guess there are no standards if that sentenced passed….Toru decided.

Mina bounced up next. "Then I'll go next! Hero name Alien Queen."

It was a fine name. Not any worse than I can not stop twinkling.

"Are you trying for that scary thing with acidic blood?" Midnight shivered, personally creeped out by aliens. "I wouldn't if I were you!"

So basically, only Midnight's personal likes pass, and if she personally dislikes something you can't name yourself that. That's too bad…Alien Queen was a decent name. She hoped Mina kept it anyway.

Mina walked to the desk disappointed.

The rest of her classmates had rather normal sounding names. There was nothing out of the ordinary about them.

Tsuyu named herself Froppy. Sero named himself Cellophane. Jiro named herself Earphone Jack. Ojiro named himself Tailman. Sato named himself Sugarman. Kaminari named himself Chargebolt. Yaoyorozu went with Creati. Shoji named himself Tentacole.

Kirishima named himself Red Riot, taking inspiration from his favorite hero Crimson Riot.

Mina eventually got the name Pinky approved, a much more boring name that Midnight loved a lot more.

"I'll be the stealth hero: Invisible Girl!" Toru announced trying to sound perky. Her class gave her blank and bored looks, just like how they had given Ojiro.

They're probably thinking that it just explains my powers and is boring. That was fine by her. Ojiro shot her a sympathetic look.

"That's great!" Midnight didn't seem to mind that it was boring. She just continued on with the presentations.

Uraraka became Uravity. Todoroki became Shoto, which was just his first name. Tokoyami took the name Tsukuyomi. Mineta chose the name Grape Juice.

Well, now I won't be able to drink grape juice…Toru thought distastefully.

Koda chose the name Anima. Bakugo chose the name King Explosion Murder, but it was rejected.

Bakugo's name in fact got rejected over and over again for being too violent.

Yeah. He really does seem like a villain. Toru thought to herself. Wanting to murder just seemed rather villainous.

Iida took the name Tenya, which was just his first name.

Inspired by Todoroki, I see….Toru made a mental note of that. Before the sports festival she had never seen Iida and Todoroki spend any time together, but they had worked together in the cavalry battle. Perhaps they had formed a close bond during the competition based on their shared hero legacies. I better keep an eye out to see if they form any strong bonds of comradery since they're both fairly powerful…

Finally, Midoriya took the name Deku, inspired by Uraraka and how she had changed the meaning of it for him and how the name made him happy now.

With that the hero names were chosen. Everyone looked rather satisfied except Bakugo who had never ended up picking his and was annoyed and frustrated. Iida also didn't look happy, he looked like he was staring at the wall dissociating a little.

"Now that you've finished talking about your hero names, we'll continue discussing the internships." Aizawa told the class after he woke up. "They will last a week." He had a stack of papers.

"As for where you'll have them those who had offers from pros will be given your own lists. So you can choose from those yourselves. Those who didn't have offers will choose from among 40 agencies from across the country that will be accepting our interns. They all work in different places and have different specialties." Aizawa held up a piece of paper.

40 agencies across the country…So there's a good chance I'll find one near or in Kamino but not a good chance I'll end up in it alone. There were 20 Class A and Class B students. Only 9 students in Class A had gotten offers, and less than that probably got offers from Class B.

If there are multiple agencies in the Kamino area I should choose the worst. She had time to research things more extensively.

"For example, Thirteen would be focused on rescue and disasters more than fighting villains." Midnight added.

I don't care what kind of work the hero I end up with does, just that nobody else ends up there. I don't need another student monitoring me. All she could do was try to deter other students from interning where she did. She couldn't be too obvious about her dislike of working with someone else. So if she did end up working with someone from Class A or B it was just bad luck and she'd have to work on ditching them.

The papers were passed out quickly.

"Think carefully before you choose and turn in your choices before the weekend." Aizawa said. And with that the bell rang signaling lunch and Aizawa walked out, sleeping bag in toe.

"We've only got two days to choose?" Sero sounded startled.

Aizawa didn't deny this "Make your decisions efficiently. Dismissed." Midnight waved goodbye. Aizawa closed the door behind him.

Toru quickly started scanning her list for heroes near the Kamino region or in Kamino. She found several heroes near the Kamino region, like X Crust, or X Ray Specs, but only one with UA in Kamino.

Well, that makes sense. Kamino's crime rate has been lowering quickly. Toru knew the heroes assumed it was because of All Might's existence. He had fought a big battle there before which heroes assumed frightened criminals away. But really it was because the league of villain's base was there, along with one of their Nomu factories. To keep heroes from poking around too much All for One had issued a decree to the league of villains that no crime should happen in Kamino. Villains in fact took down villains more often than heroes did there. Not that the heroes would know anything about it.

The crime rate was very low and the most crimes hero agencies did get was tax evasion. There used to be many more agencies in that area, but they had started to relocate because of the lack of crime.

So one agency on the list. Some guy named His Purple Highness. Toru was honestly glad she had found an agency. The name of the hero seemed rather flashy though. She hoped it wouldn't draw her classmates attention. It required more research.

I feel like I've read that hero name before somewhere…Where did I read it? Something recent I saw…Toru tried to recall but it wasn't coming to her. There were so many hero names and it was sometimes hard to remember the not especially famous ones.

All she knew from that name though was that His Purple Highness was not in the top 1000 hero ranking. She memorized the list every year. This meant he wasn't very popular which was exactly what she was looking for.

"Hey guys…Have you decided what pro hero agencies you're going to yet?" Mina sounded absolutely energy less. She was clearly extremely disappointed about the fact that she didn't have a single offer.

"I'm going to Mt. Lady's!" Mineta declared.

Toru could guess as to why.

"Augh! I have so many heroes going after me!" Kaminari complained.

"Isn't that a good thing?" Sero asked, confused why Kaminari looked distressed.

"Normally yes! But my Mom put in an offer too and she told me this morning if I didn't choose her agency she'd kick my butt!" Kaminari had tears in his eyes. "I wish I could afford to choose like you guys…" He complained.

"Hahaha." Sero laughed. "Have fun with your Mom then!"

Midoriya was starting to loudly mutter and dissect every hero agency. It was useful information, but he tended to spin circles around himself and build up indecision.

Toru was noticing people cluster around Mina to give her encouragement, but Midoriya's loud muttering had gotten their attention and the group of Ojiro, Mina, Tsuyu and Uraraka had migrated to Midoriya's desk. Because Midoriya was close to her she didn't have to move.

"Have you already picked an agency, Hagakure?" Shoji asked, sitting next to her and looking over the list himself.

I hope he doesn't suggest going together…Toru thought to herself. She knew Shoji was fond of her, as he was fond of Koda and Tokoyami the other visibly mutant types, but she hoped he wasn't going to suggest going together.

"Nope!" Toru said. "There's….just so many choices."

Shoji nodded. "I'll probably stay after school to ask the librarian to google some of these agencies for me. I don't know which ones are pro mutant types."

"Why do you need to ask the librarian to google it for you?" Toru asked.

"Ah. I don't have internet at home. I never learned how to use it. All our projects I have to write by hand, so I don't know how to do a google." Shoji admitted.

Most people our age know how to use the internet. Maybe he has a more old fashioned family? He could have a home in the mountains.

"I haven't decided either!" Aoyama flung himself into their conversation, despite not being invited. "I considered His Purple Highness's Agency, but I don't want to be upstaged by someone who sparkles greater than moi."

Of course, he was considering His Purple Highness's Agency. That fits with Aoyama. Toru was glad he turned it down. "Is that hero really amazing or something?" Toru asked, trying not to be visibly interested.

Aoyama blinked and Toru was surprised an immediate answer didn't come out. "You know, Mademoiselle I don't actually know!" He admitted, "My parents used to play reruns of his fights when I was a young child. They were fans, but I don't think I caught any of his fights on air."

So he's an older hero if Aoyama's parents were into him. Toru thought.

"They were always really flashy. And I want an agency that can be brought up by my flashiness. I don't need to be taught how to be flashy." Aoyama insisted.

Shoji nodded in agreement. "That is true…You don't need anymore of…That."

"What was his quirk?" Toru asked, "He must be really strong if his fights were so famous with your parents!"

"I think they just liked his fashion." Aoyama laughed, "He was the essence of manliness, battling with his quirk Chest Hair! I believe it made him stronger based on his chest hair and he could control it."

Okay…Toru thought to herself.

"I don't think I need to learn flashiness so I think I'll avoid that one. Thanks for the insight." Shoji thanked Aoyama.

"No problem!" Aoyama agreed.

Toru hurried home quickly so she could start researching about His Purple Highness and the other agencies near Kamino.

She rather quickly found information as to why His Purple Highness hadn't been around in any television that Aoyama had seen that wasn't reruns. His Purple Highness had fallen out of popularity 14 years ago. If Aoyama had done any research, he would have realized that the hero he liked had stopped sparkling.

This guy doesn't have any big hits for recent hero work either….Toru realized. She wondered briefly why UA had approved his agency, but she put that quickly out of mind.

It was easy enough to find the article that broke His Purple Highness's career too. When she opened it her eyes widened.

UA STUDENT DIES UNDER HIS PURPLE HIGHNESS'S INTERNSHIP The article read. There weren't very many specific details of names or images of the students who had interned under him but there was images of rubble and some photographed blood.

Oh. Oh. So he's one of the guys a UA student died under? It wasn't completely out there. A few UA students had died under their internships, so it wasn't completely bizarre, but she would have assumed UA would blacklist the agencies their students died in.

Maybe it's been so long that they don't remember? Still, it's lucky for me that this guy is riddled in controversy. Anyone who googled him would decide that because of the low crime rate in the area his agency was in, it wouldn't be interesting to intern with him. Toru had really lucked out.

Toru continued digging around for information.

News sources in the area say that his head isn't fully in the game anymore. There's a few magazine articles criticizing him. Although there were a few positive articles too. He had apparently moved his agency to Kamino 3 years ago and because of the low crime rate he had earned some praise with the locals for saving cats stuck in tall buildings and dealing with rowdy drunkards, or litter complaints. Basically, things that didn't have to do with big villain attacks.

Although he hasn't had any interns with UA in 14 years I can find information about other schools interning with him. Some former interns had spoken about him on forums.

"Didn't learn anything under him. He didn't pay much attention to me and told me to 'take this as a tourist opportunity and have fun!' 0/10 stars. Would not do again."

"I give him 10/10 stars because I was given 0 supervision and was able to joke around! It was great! Free vacation for me!" Another wrote.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. No supervision so I can meet with the league and someone who isn't popular so other students likely won't choose him and in Kamino. She had found the perfect candidate.

All she needed to do now had a shallow enough excuse to make it believable, and ensure a different agency wasn't a better fit.

She researched the rest of the night to make sure she really had the perfect candidate for her needs.

Once she was satisfied, she circled His Purple Highness's name and went to bed.

About the transphobia mentioned in this chapter! I wanted to start laying the groundwork for Magne when she joins the league of villains. From what we see of Magne it seems like the league was really the only ones who respects her gender? Like I remember us hearing her deadname in her introduction episode, and I'd like to give her more of a reason to be a villain besides 'she's just awful' since she's the only canon trans woman character in bnha. I'm not a trans woman though so if any trans women have any tips/suggestions/criticisms please feel free to point it out and comment!

About the agency I chose for Toru to go too: (His Purple Highness is not in Kamino canonly by the way I have no clue what agencies are in Kamino although I tried to figure out before writing the chapter I was unsuccessful. In canon His Purple Highness is probably long retired)
For those who do not know, His Purple Highness is the hero Aizawa and Oboro interned under during their second year of internship. During my initial notes Toru was not going to intern with him, originally she was either going to intern with X Crust who was seen during the Kamino raid in season 3, and I sort of assumed he might be stationed in Kamino, or I was going to make up some random hero OC. After trying to make the perfect hero OC I eventually gave up ran to the wiki and looked at all the heroes I could choose from and decided that His Purple Highness was the best fit due to how much I had written about Kurogiri, and due to this choice Aizawa eventually got a much bigger role in my notes and became a more major character in this story.
Anyway just thought I'd talk about the thought process that went into that!

EDIT: I edited out the part where someone mentioned that no female interns interned under him! That was my bad, I had forgotten Midnight interned with him and it was a wrong assumption I made that he primarily taught manliness.
