(A/N) Battle Trials! I really did not want to write the battle trials honestly. I hate writing fights I'm so bad at them.
Two days after his somewhat disastrous first day, disaster struck once again, in the form of All Might and their heroics class.
His hero suit was simple, taking after Eraserhead's costume in that regard. An indigo so dark it was nearly black for the jumpsuit, black for the scarf, which was currently just a scarf, although one day he really hoped to learn to use a capture scarf like Eraserhead, and replace it with that.
Black combat boots protected his feet, with black fingerless gloves on his hands. A good section of the class had gone without any sort of mask or facial protection, Hitoshi opting for what he knew was called a happuri, along with a visor to protect his eyes.
Simple perhaps, but he intended to be an underground hero anyway. He didn't need to have a flashy costume.
"I like your costume, Shinso," Ojiro offered, smiling.
Hitoshi blinked at Ojiro's costume, which looked like a basic martial arts uniform. "Thanks. Yours is cool too." Always return a comment with a compliment. It'd keep the other person in a good mood.
They exited the changing rooms, assembling outside in front of All Might.
"We'll be picking the teams randomly!" He boomed. Hitoshi flinched and moved subtly behind Ojiro and Shoji. Ojiro scooted closer to Shoji when Hitoshi moved, which confused Hitoshi.
"Shouldn't we have a more organized way of pairing people up?" Iida protested loudly.
"Well, team ups aren't always organized," Midoriya offered.
"And we don't know each other's abilities yet," Yaoyorozu added quickly. "It would be pointless to try and pair up based on abilities since we haven't yet shown the class what we can do besides those tests Aizawa-sensei made us do."
"Both Young Midoriya and Young Yaoyorozu are correct! Let us get on with the drawing!" All Might boomed quickly.
Hitoshi was paired with Yaoyorozu, and she smiled at him before focusing on All Might, who was explaining the exercise. Not hard, protect the bomb if you're the 'villains', touch the bomb or restrain the 'villains' if you're the 'heroes'.
Hitoshi knew vaguely what Yaoyorozu's quirk was, although outside of that, he didn't know much. About her or her quirk.
She made her way over to him, smiling politely. "Shinso, right?"
Hitoshi nodded cautiously, unwilling to speak and risk anything.
"I'm afraid I don't know your quirk, but my quirk is called creation, I can make things from my lipids as long as I know the atomical structure." Yaoyorozu shifted, looking somewhat uncomfortable. "Is there something I could make you? A weapon or something?"
Hitoshi didn't know how to use any weapons, which was probably an oversight on his part, and as such, shook his head.
"Alright," she said, turning slightly to watch the screens that had the first of the fights on them.
Hitoshi half paid attention to the fights as they passed, choosing instead to keep a closer eye on All Might, not fully trusting the man. He knew he was the number one hero, knew that with a certainty, but that didn't mean he trusted him. He didn't know him, not personally. And he was an adult, with a powerful and, more importantly, heroic quirk. There was no telling how he'd react to Hitoshi's villainous quirk.
He and Yaoyorozu were finally going, up against a girl with dark hair and odd earlobes, and a guy with yellow hair with a black zap through it. Hitoshi assumed he had an electricity based quirk. He and Yayorozu were designated the villains, and boy if that didn't hurt. Logically he knew it was random, and it was also just an exercise, but it kind of felt the universe was laughing at him and he didn't like it.
They got to the room with the bomb, and Yaoyorozu eyed the doorway. "I can probably block it up. Close us off in here."
Hitoshi shook his head quickly. "I'll try and cut them off and capture them." He was not staying in here without an exit. He'd rather try and take out the other team one on two rather than be locked up in here.
"I guess I'll stay to protect the bomb?" Yaoyorozu said hesitantly. "Or I guess we should close off the bomb here and keep them from getting in at all. Either they'll get captured or we will."
Hitoshi just nodded his agreement. Anything to keep from being shut in here.
Once both of them were out of the room, Yaoyorozu began producing metal beams to block the doorway. Hitoshi stood a little ways down the hallway, intending to buy what time he could when they inevitably found them. It could probably be anywhere from in the next twenty minutes to the next two.
It was on the shorter end, of course, but at least Yaoyorozu was done shoring up the door, so both of them were ready and waiting when the other two appeared around the corner.
Hitoshi headed to intercept the electricity boy, having been proved correct when lightning sparked along the other teen's fingers. This was probably going to hurt.
"You did really good fighting Kaminari!" Hagakure chirped, grinning cheerfully at him. Hitoshi offered a weak smile in return. He hurt all over, although primarily on his back and forearms where Kaminari had nearly zapped him, but succeeded only in leaving burns.
"Shouldn't you be dropping by the nurse's office? I know Kaminari got you pretty good a few times, and I can see the burn peeking out from your sleeve," Ojiro said, gesturing with his tail to where he meant.
"I am not in need of the nurse," Hitoshi said quietly, pulling his sleeve down to cover the burn. "It's not bad."
Doubtful looks came from both teens, but they didn't protest.
"At least get it bandaged," Ojiro said, turning back to face the screens with the next matchup.
"I will," Hitoshi muttered. If he could find enough bandages. He knew he was running low at the moment, but wasn't quite sure how low. He hoped he had enough to at least wrap one of the burns on his forearm in an attempt to have the two teens think all of the wounds were bandaged. It would have to do.
"I can't believe class went by so quickly!" Hagakure exclaimed, throwing her arms in the air. "It felt like it disappeared like that!" She snapped her fingers, startling Hitoshi, who flinched before recovering. "Oh! Sorry Hitoshi! I'll warn you in the future!"
Hitoshi nodded stiffly. It was pointless trying to tell her that really it was no problem and she didn't have to go out of her way to do something that was pointless in the long run.
He couldn't get attached anyway, they didn't know his quirk yet, and when they did, they'd leave. It would hurt less if he didn't get attached. And there was always the possibility of him not even getting to go to UA after this. Maybe he'd manage to not have to tell anyone about his quirk until that inevitably happened.
His hope was inevitably crushed the next day when Yaoyorozu cornered him while everyone headed to lunch.
"I'll walk him down," she promised Hagakure and Ojiro. "This won't be long, I just wanted to ask about something."
Hitoshi remained in his seat, desperately hoping this wasn't about his quirk. They had been paired for the activity yesterday, maybe she wanted to know why he hadn't used his quirk. He'd tried, he really had, but he hadn't been able too, was too weak.
"Shinso?" Yaoyorozu asked when the classroom had emptied. "Is there a particular reason you're wearing makeup?"
Hitoshi froze, muscles locking up.
"I don't mean to pry that much, and just wanted to give this to you," she set a thick container on his desk. "I can tell you've had some training at it, but you clearly don't have quite the right materials. This is a thicker foundation than what I think you're wearing now, and should be closer to your skin tone. I-I memorized the make-up of the foundation itself, so if you need me to refill that at any point, I'd be happy to. I made the container compact and it should fit into either your pocket or a bag." She seemed nervous, shifting slightly. Was she waiting for something?
"Th-thank you," Hitoshi managed to force himself to say.
"I-I know I'm not close or anything," Yaoyorozu said, tripping over her own words slightly. "But if you need someone to talk to, I'd be happy to listen, and if you don't want me to, I won't say anything to anyone."
Hitoshi couldn't quite manage a nod, so he agreed verbally. "Alright. I'll keep that in mind." He'd remember it. He probably wouldn't take her up on it though. He wouldn't burden anyone else with his problems.
So as not to be rude, he forced his locked muscles to move and slip the container into his pocket. Honestly, he was relieved he'd managed that. It probably looked forced, but he couldn't care, he'd forced himself to move.
"I should probably walk you to lunch now," Yaoyorozu said, laughing sheepishly. "I'd rather not be gutted by Hagakure and Ojiro for making you miss lunch!"
"I'll come in a moment," Hitoshi murmured, trying to relax and unlock his muscles.
"I'll wait outside the door," Yaoyorozu said quickly, disappearing outside.
A moment longer, and his muscles unlocked. He quickly grabbed his bag, debating whether to actually use the foundation she'd given him. To his mild surprise, she was actually standing in front of the door when he exited.
"Let's go, shall we?" She asked, smiling.
Hitoshi gave a short nod. He probably should use it, she would notice otherwise. After all, she had noticed the makeup he was currently wearing. He resisted the urge to scratch at it, it was in the wound, and it hurt, but he was used to it.
(A/N) And here is the introduction of Momo! And a bit of foreshadowing for a later problem.
