(A/N) We check in with Hitoshi and see an Iida, and then maybe we can do the Sports Festival. Maybe. We'll see.
Momo didn't particularly want to go to school when she did wake up the next morning, but she didn't really have a choice. It felt like that was a lot of her life at the moment. She didn't like the feeling.
She went to school anyway. That at least she could tell her friends. Unlike the whole OFA thing. When it was only her secret to tell, she would tell them. Not until then.
"Hey Momo!" Toru greeted her cheerily, a tired Hitoshi leaning heavily on her. "Hitoshi's not awake yet, we're trying out some meds to help him sleep and it kind of knocks him out and doesn't like letting him wake up apparently."
Momo giggled softly, watching Hitoshi quietly doze off on Toru's shoulder, looking utterly at peace in a way that made her happy. He seemed a lot better now and that was good.
"Hey guys," Mashirao said, wandering up. "How've you been?"
Momo must've made a face or something because both of the awake teens looked expectantly at her. "It's a long story," Momo deflected. "I'll tell it at lunch." She hoped to corner Iida about it beforehand and see if he knew about it.
"Yaoyorozu!" Ah, there was Iida. "May I speak to you for a moment?"
"I'll explain later, I'm sorry." Momo told them, then turned to Iida. "Of course. It'll need to be quick before school starts however."
"It will not take long!" Iida confirmed, turning and walking away briskly.
Momo shot a mildly exasperated look over her shoulder then followed him.
"Were you informed last night?" Iida asked as soon as they were standing in an abandoned part of the hallways.
"Of the arrangement? Yes," Momo replied calmly, sighing and slumping against the wall slightly.
"I sincerely apologize for my parents, I was similarly only informed yesterday," Iida bowed harshly, at a nearly 90 degree angle.
"It's alright," Momo was quick to reassure him. "This is a better option then some others I know my parents would've considered. I'm just going to be glad it's you and not someone three times my age."
"I will admit to believing my parents would be above an arranged marriage, considering they didn't do any such thing with Tensei," Iida made an odd face Momo couldn't interpret, then continued. "Perhaps that is why they accepted. I will ask them as soon as I reach home. Might we be able to exchange phone numbers?"
Momo quickly rattled off her own after Iida pulled his phone out, and then her phone buzzed as Iida sent her a text.
"I sincerely apologize for my parents once again," Iida said, bowing once more. "We should get back however, it would not be good for the President and the vice president to be late for class."
Momo nodded, and they headed back to class, only barely making it in time.
Lunch came with interesting results. Hitoshi was significantly more awake, and eating a home packed lunch with a fair amount of enthusiasm. It made Momo happy to see him so energetic.
Iida also joined them at their table, although he sat next to Mashirao, diagonal to Hitoshi and across from Momo, who was next to Toru, who was next to Hitoshi.
"So, what'cha doing here, Iida?" Toru started off, interrogating poor Iida.
Iida looked extremely uncomfortable like he wasn't sure how to explain that he was probably here to try and get to know Momo slightly better.
"Our parents thought it'd be a great idea to engage us." Biting the bullet it was. It was better to get it all out immediately anyway.
"Er, yes, that is correct! I came over to attempt to get to know Yaoyorozu a bit better and perhaps know all of you as well." Iida swung his arm once and Mashirao ducked with all the practice he had said once came from having multiple small siblings.
"Momo?"
"Yes Toru?"
"Spill."
"Right. My parents have been looking to ensure I have an arranged marriage lined up for when I am of age, and the Iida's were the only ones they could really find that would accept my hand in marriage. Honestly I'm lucky it wasn't Iida's elder brother I was arranged to marry."
"My parents would not have allowed that!" Iida swung his arm again, and Mashirao ducked it again. "The age gap is far too wide!"
"Not the widest it could've been," Momo said, shrugging. She knew she'd gotten lucky that the Iida's had accepted with Iida, it could've been far worse. "This is the most favorable outcome. The Iida's are a heroing family, they rely less on looks."
"That's stupid," Toru huffed, leaning back and folding her arms. Hitoshi stole her apple when he finished his, and Toru squawked. Momo grinned, proud of him for doing that. And for him biting into the apple while holding eye contact with Toru. Today seemed like it was a good day for him and she was glad.
"Perhaps, but it could've been worse," Iida offered. "There are worse families to marry into, especially among the upper class families. I suspect, if Endeavor wasn't going to be so picky about who his son married to ensure the next generation of quirks was powerful, Todoroki would be on the table as well."
"At least he's also my age," Momo sighed, patting Toru on the back as she huffed and relinquished the apple to Hitoshi. "I suppose I'll need to thank that villain at USJ for one thing."
"Huh?" Mashirao asked, blinking in confusion at her. "I think I missed something."
"The massive scar I have, remember?" Momo reminded him, putting a hand on her stomach. "Recovery Girl did note there were no internal organs damaged, which is good, but it's still a pretty bad scar. With my looks, if I didn't have the scar I would've been arranged to marry someone who would have me as either eye candy that hangs off his arm to make him look good, or worse."
Toru shuddered, as did Iida. Hitoshi cheerfully ignored them all and continued eating his apple. He was listening though, evidenced by the way his eyes flicked to Momo every once in a while, keeping an eye on her.
"All I'm saying, is this is a pretty good ending. Because of the scar, the Iida's were the only ones to accept my mother's proposals, since they're a heroing family."
"Indeed!" Iida nearly shouted. "We have no care of scars, my mother has many from when she was an active hero before Tensei was born! Now she mostly does the office work along with my father. They're not often in the field anymore."
"They are on the older end for heroes," Mashirao agreed. "Momo, your family does what again?"
"Some marketing thing I think," Momo admitted. "I don't pay much attention to them. We haven't been on great terms since I decided to become a hero."
"Well that was a cheery discussion," Toru commented. "Onto a new one! Hitoshi did the funniest thing earlier-" Hitoshi covered her mouth, looking a bit frantic. He shook his head, making a negative sign with his other hand.
Toru did something, probably licked Hitoshi's hand, since he gave her an annoyed look, but didn't let go. She did something else, and Hitoshi made an aborted yelping noise, pulling his hand back quickly.
"Toru did you just bite him?" Mashirao asked, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"He wouldn't let go," Toru huffed. "I gotta tell this story though! So we have this bird feeder in the backyard right?"
Hitoshi slumped in his seat, glaring at Toru lightly and wiping his hand on his shirt.
"So, there's this one fat squirrel we think is pregnant or possibly just really fat that likes trying to eat from said bird feeder." Toru waved her hands around to illustrate her point, although helpfully avoided hitting anyone in the face. "And so this fat squirrel is trying to get some birdseed. So Hitoshi sees it trying so hard to get into this supposedly squirrel proof feeder, and just grabs the feed bag and some carrots, and goes out to feed the squirrel."
"Oh boy," Mashirao sighed. Momo agreed.
"So this supremely fat squirrel, wanders over to inspect him, seated on the grass with the birdseed and the carrots, and apparently deems him worthy of its presence, and plops down in his lap, just draped out across his lap like the most dramatic bastard ever." Toru starts laughing, and Hitoshi is quietly turning very red. "So Hitoshi's stuck with this very fat squirrel in his lap, at which point we were able to sex it so we do know it's female, which means it's pregnant."
"Congratulations Hitoshi that squirrel family is never going to leave you alone ever," Mashiro told him. "The squirrels will remember. Forever."
"I agree!" Iida said, waving an arm, thankfully the one not next to Mashirao's head. "Squirrels near our house remember that I fed them as a kid because I was not all that smart and didn't listen to my mother and now they do not leave me alone."
Hitoshi just puts his head down on the table, face very very red.
"Anyway, this squirrel just sits there for a while, then starts demanding treats, at which point he does feed her, because he's apparently a sucker for small pregnant and fat as all get out." Toru laughed even harder as she apparently finished her story and Hitoshi groaned semi-loudly.
Mashirao started snickering as well, and Momo joined in, so happy to have her friends all here, even if it had been an extremely stressful yesterday. It would get better. It had to.
(A/N) You know how I said we might be able to do the Sports Festival next? I lied. One more chapter after this apparently. Then the sports festival. Probably. Hopefully.
