There are things that make absolutely no sense in Harry Potter. Some are serious plotholes. Some are not plotholes per se, but more like events that are supposed to be impossible. Some are more along the lines of hypocrisy, self-contradiction and not using an obvious spell at a time of need. This story resolves the ones in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. COMPLETE!

"I see . . . ," said Professor McGonagall. "Well, I'm afraid I will have to take this, Potter."

"W-what?" said Harry, scrambling to his feet. "Why?"

"It will need to be checked for jinxes," said Professor McGonagall. "Of course, I'm no expert, but I daresay Madam Hooch and Professor Flitwick will strip it down —"

"Strip it down?" repeated Ron, as though McGonagall was mad.

"It shouldn't take more than a few weeks," said Professor McGonagall. "You will have it back if we are sure it is jinx free."

"Are you kidding me? Who would send me a world-class broom and jinx it?" said Harry incredulously.

"Sirius Black, Potter. Sirius Black! He was You-Know-Who's right hand, and he escaped from prison to hunt you!"

"And of course the first thing he thought was — 'let me just walk into Quality Quidditch Supplies and buy this very expensive broom for the one who killed my master,'" said Harry sarcastically.

"It might be a trick, Potter," said Professor McGonagall impatiently.

"If he can jinx a broom, then he could just jinx a letter and send it! He would put a familiar name on the envelope, like Minister Fudge, or Hagrid or maybe just 'A Big Fan'. I would open it to see what the letter is, and bam! Mission accomplished! Why would he send a broom when he knows it would be checked?"

All three were looking at him, thoughtful.

"Maybe he is gone insane from all those years near the Dementors? That's why he made up a plan like this?" tried Professor McGonagall.

"Yeah, right. He is sane enough to escape the highest security prison in the Wizarding World, but he isn't sane enough to make a semi-coherent plan? Honestly, Professor!"

So she didn't take his Firebolt away!

AN: There are over a 100K fics where Dumbledore is bashed because he doesn't activate the wards of Hogwarts to keep out Dark or cursed objects like Horcruxes or the necklace that Draco gives to Katie.

1) No such thing as wards. Seriously, just read the books.

2) Dumbledore might be controlling but he is not incompetent. So if there was such a thing, he would definitely activate it.
