Chapter Eleven: In Which Maps Are Given

"D'you reckon we should tell someone?" Harry asked Ron.

"We know he's not coming in through Honeydukes," said Ron dismissively. "We'd've heard if the shop had been broken into."

"Didn't Black break out of a prison that's supposed to be inescapable? He can definitely get in to a sweet shop!"

"Er — right. I reckon we should go to Dumbledore then," suggested Ron.

"What are waiting for? Let's go!"

Half an hour later, they were both sitting in the Headmaster's office.

"Professor, we have something to tell you," said Harry urgently.

"It's important," added Ron.

Dumbledore gave his usual serene smile and waved his wand. All external noise stopped. Some sort of soundproofing spell, Harry concluded.

Harry wasn't sure his voice would work; but once he started, he didn't stop.

"While I am disappointed that you didn't tell me this earlier, I am proud that you found the courage to admit your mistake. I presume you brought the map, then?"

"How did you — never mind," said Harry, handing it over.

Dumbledore peered at the map through his spectacles.

"I must get it to detect Black when he appears, because it would be impossible to keep check on all parts of the castle at once. Excellent spellwork, but the enchantments are not quite what I —"

Dumbledore suddenly pointed his wand at the map, and it squeaked and turned into a chicken. He poked it, and it started to scream the word 'Snivellus' over and over again.

"It might take some time to get working, boys. I suggest you get going."

They gave him a reassuring smile and left.

The next day, Dumbledore watched as the dot labelled 'Sirius Black' moved in seemingly random directions. He increased his pace and practically ran all the way to the Quidditch Pitch. He found a big, black dog playing fetch with himself. It seemed Black had somehow become an Animagus.

A wave of his wand later Black was bound with ropes and forced into human form.

"It has been a long time since we last talked, Mr Black," said Dumbledore frighteningly.

"I can explain. I'm innocent. You have to listen to me —"

"You will indeed have a chance to explain yourself. I would especially like to know what would motivate you to break in to the Gryffindor dormitories at night with a knife, Black."

AN: Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban. Why does Ron seem to think breaking into Honeydukes undetected is impossible?
