"Seven!"
Fred shouted back to his siblings and Diana.
"So proud of you," Diana said in a relaxed tone. She was lying on her back. Resting from the friendly quidditch match they just had… Well, as friendly as playing quidditch with the Weasley's can be, that is.
"Oi Fred, watch this!" George yelled as he carried a much bigger rock over to the water.
"How do you expect to skip that?!" Ron questioned.
"Who said anything about skipping?" George said as he lifted the rock above his head. Then processed to throw it into the water as hard as he could.
"Merlin, NO," Ron shouted as he backed up.
"Nice one!" Fred said. Impressed by the large splash the rock made.
Diana and Ginny were watching the boys with mild amusement until Ginny turned to Diana.
Diana wished that the boys would let Ginny join in on their quidditch matches, but they insisted that she was too young and that she needed to 'referee'. Diana had tried to call them out on it, but Ginny always told her she had tried everything to convince them before.
"What food does he like?" Ginny asked suddenly.
Diana knew who Ginny was asking about. She had been asking about Harry all summer. Honestly, Diana loved Harry and considered him a good friend, but she had no idea how to answer these questions. Like she knew Harry… enjoyed food? What kind of food? Diana never paid attention to that.
"Um, I don't really know, Gin."
"I wonder if I can get an autograph." Ginny thinks out loud.
"Does Harry have a signature yet?" Diana thinks silently.
As Diana contemplated this, she reached her arms up to the sky. Giving them a stretch.
Once the lot of them were done messing around, they started heading back to the Burrow. Somewhat tried out from the day's events.
As they walked, Diana looked around her surroundings. The land where the Burrow reminded her of something you would see in a Peter Rabbit illustration. The soft greens and yellows of the grass were so different to the city.
That and smells. One hardly ever notices how different places can smell, but due to living in the city most of the time, Diana could definitely tell how different they really were. 'Fresh' felt like too easy of a word to describe it. Maybe clear? That's also too easy.
While Diana did like living in a city like Glasgow, she was glad that her pa and Mr and Mrs Weasley organised for Diana to spend this time at the Burrow. It felt refreshing to spend some time in a country area that wasn't school.
When they got back to the house, each of them gave various hellos to Mrs Weasley. Once Diana had given hers, Mrs Weasley smiled down at her and passed her a few envelopes.
Diana had grown to appreciate Mrs Weasley a lot lately. It had been her idea to have Diana at the Weasley home before school, and she was always very considerate of Diana. Like how she quickly picked up on Diana's desire to not eat fish or pork. Always provide an alternative for her during breakfast and dinner.
Once Diana took the letters from the older woman, she was quick to thank her and moved to the living room to give them each a read.
Diana sorted through the update from her pa and uncle, along with the regularly assigned non-magic homework. Then, her eyes landed on a letter from Tilly.
Hello Diana
How's you're time at the Weasleys' going? It's nice that you're dad let you go after everything that happened. I'm just about finished my time as a grounded child.
Are you going to Diagon Alley anytime soon? We're going in a day or two to pick up Winnie's stuff for school. Plus some new books for me.
Diana read on and noticed that a few lines had been crossed out.
Also, have you heard from Harry at all? I've written him a couple of times, but he hasn't sent anything back? I thought maybe his family went on holiday.
All the best, Tilly
That last question stood out to Diana. She, too, had been trying to contact Harry all summer, but due to not getting his house phone at the end of the school, her only way of contact was by owl. Which as much as Diana loved the majestic fowls, she had to admit the carrier pigeon form of communication was not suitable for her.
She assumed it had been the same for Harry due to not getting any letters from him either. That's definitely something she wanted an answer to when going back to school. Maybe Harry Harry had been grounded like the two of them but banning communication with long-distance friends seemed a bit extreme. In the end, Diana decided to mull it over a bit more before she wrote back to Tilly and tried writing to Harry again.
In the meantime, Diana sat down for dinner with the Weasleys' as she had done for the last few nights. Well, it was dinner for everyone but Mr Weasley. For him, it was more like his breakfast before heading to work.
During dinner, Mr Weasley talked adamantly about his previous day at the ministry. He went over the four raids that had been done the night before. However, it wasn't until about twenty minutes into dinner that Mr Weasley said something that truly shocked Diana.
"And you'll never believe what I heard from Trudy from the Improper Use of Magic Office," Mr Weasley said to his wife. "Harry Potter got a warning for using magic in front of some muggles."
Diana choked slightly on her drink when Mr Weasley said this. The other's all started asking their father questions as Diana coughed a couple of times to clear her throat.
"You're alright, dear?" Mrs Weasley asked in concern.
"Yeah, yeah. Just a little surprised, that's all." Diana nodded to the older woman.
"Could we go visit Harry?" Ron asked his mother suddenly.
"Why would we do that?" Mrs Weasley asked in a confused tone.
"I just figured Diana would want to see her best friend," Ron argued as Fred started patting Diana on the back to help her through the fit.
"Could we, mum?" Ginny added on.
"We're not going to Harry Potter's home uninvited." Mrs Weasley said sternly. "I'm sorry, Diana, but that would be very impolite of us."
Diana, who was still somewhat recovering from her drink incident, gave a thumbs up. Only half-listening to the conversation.
Ron tried convincing his mother for a little longer to no avail. And as much as she wanted to check on Harry, Diana knew Mrs Weasley was right.
Diana had briefly met Harry's family at the start of the holidays, and they didn't seem like the kind of people who liked surprise guests. In fact, they didn't seem to like people at all.
If Harry had, in fact, done magic in front of the lot of them. They probably weren't in the mood to have anyone magical over after getting a notice that someone in their family had technically broken the law.
By the time everyone was getting ready for bed, Diana was still contemplating what she heard from Mr Weasley. A small part of her hated to admit it, but Harry was known to be a bit brass and hot-headed. But, on the other hand, Diana knew that Harry would never risk not being allowed to go back to school. He loved it too much. Said so himself.
"Whatcha thinking about, Di?" George asked. Causing Diana to jump and let out a shout.
"How do people always manage to sneak up on me?" Diana asked rhetorically.
"I always thought it was because you're always caught up in your thoughts," George stated simply. "Maybe everyone else should wear bells?"
"You and Fed would never put yourselves at a disadvantage like that." Diana pointed out.
"This is true, but this isn't what I wanted to talk about," George explained. "You're thinking about Harry again, aren't you?"
Diana avoided looking George in the eyes when hearing that. "Am I that easy to read?"
"To me, yeah," George answered proudly.
Diana sighed in defeat. "I'll admit that I'm worried about him… but I'm allowed to be. He's one of my best friends."
"You're such a good older sibling." George smiled.
"Come on, man," Diana whined.
"Well, it's true. You do act like an older sister to a lot of people." George said in a tone that sounded very affectionate. "But you don't have to worry. I can assure you Harry will be perfectly fine."
"Wow, a Weasley guarantee. Now I can definitely sleep safe tonight."
George gave another smile as Diana let out a big yawn. They both wished each other good night. George headed back to the twins' room, and Diana went to her usual spot in Ginny's room.
Diana had made sure to write back to Tilly and write another letter to Harry before getting ready for bed but couldn't shake this weird feeling she had all evening.
"Night, Gin," Diana said to the younger girl as she lay down on a spare mattress.
"Good night, Diana," Ginny said back.
A few hours later, Diana opened her eyes to find herself utterly different from the Weasley home. Instead, it looked like a cave where a dragon decided to keep all his treasures and moved out said treasure hundreds of years ago.
"Another one of these dreams," Diana said to herself.
She walked down the dark halls of the caves. Looking for something interesting. After a few minutes of walking, Diana spotted what looked like some kind of door in the distance. She started moving towards it, only to hear something shifting above her. Before she could do anything, the roof of the cave began collapsing towards her.
She covered her face and shut her eyes in panic but didn't feel anything hit her in the end.
She felt someone pulling her up and opened her eyes to find herself back in the Burrow. All though it was pitch black, and Diana's mind still felt fuzzy. Even her eyes were only kind of half-open.
The one who pulled her up kept guiding her down the hall by the hand. She couldn't see who it was but definitely felt safe near them.
As they reached the bottom of the staircase, Diana let out a giant yawn. Causing the mystery person to give a quiet shhh.
"Whatever floats your boat, dream person." Diana thought to herself.
Once they got outside, Diana could see the back of the mystery person's head. Diana slowly recognised it has either Fred or George's head.
If Diana could get a good look at their faces, she could usually tell instantly. For example, using the scar on George's eyebrow from a fight injury and a bump on Fred's nose from when he broke it during a quidditch game.
One of the twins helped her sit down somewhere, and if she had realised this was a dream by now, she would have turned tail and gone right back to the house. But unfortunately, when waking up, Diana was not her usual well thinking self.
By the time Diana got comfortable, she had started drifting off to sleep again. She barely heard the distance bickering of three rowdy siblings.
Diana was later rudely awakened when someone bumped into her. She blinked her eyes open to Ron shuffling over to the left side of the car… wait, car?
Diana's eyes went wide as she looked to see that the previous events of the night had not just been a dream.
"Mothe-"
"Oh, look who's awake at last," George said from the driver's seat.
"Good to see you're alive," Fred added on.
"Turn around," Diana said. Not being in a very jokey mood at the moment.
"But we're almost there!" Ron wined.
"You're mum is going to kill us if-" Diana spotted. "Where exactly are we going?"
"To check on Harry." The twins said in unison.
"Ooohhh nooo," Diana moaned. Sounding a bit defeated. "I should have known you weren't joking back at the house."
"It's not a big deal, Diana. Mum won't even know we were gone." Fred explained.
"Plus, we're only like five minutes away from Harry's place," George continued.
Diana let out a huff as the twins continued explaining the 'flawless plan'.
Eventually, Diana was overhearing about it and placated them a bit. "Okay, okay, we'll check on Harry, but then we head straight back, got it?"
"Got it." The twins smiled, and Ron gave a nod.
As they got closer to the house, Diana tried to get a closer look at it. Immediately seeing something she didn't like. The house was pretty average, but what stood out to Diana was that one of the windows had bars drilled into it.
Alarms started going off in Diana's head. And she leaned up to talk to George.
"Change of plans."
