A/N-The plot bunnies are holding me hostage. I really should call pest control.

If she closes her eyes right now, she can pretend that his hair is black and messy, and that he smells of wind and grass and things that shouldn't be. She can pretend she isn't kissing her boyfriend of two years, can pretend she isn't known as 'Amos's Girl'.
If she closes her eyes tomorrow, she can pretend that her life isn't so routine that she wants to scream long and loud, and she can pretend that someone would notice if she did. She can pretend that he isn't standing there staring at her with disappointment as Amos dishes out lamb for her dinner, a dish that she hates.
If she closes her eyes a month later, she can pretend that it isn't Amos down on one knee, that the diamond on her hand doesn't feel like a noose around her neck. She can pretend that she's crying tears of happiness instead of tears of broken dreams.
If she closes her eyes throughout the next year, she can pretend that she isn't picking out bridesmaids dresses for her friends, who look on worriedly and share knowing glances. She can pretend that she's getting married in her rose tinted sunglasses, on the beach, wearing jeans, instead of in a white organza dress in a chapel on the village green.
If she keeps her eyes closed, she can pretend that her stepfather isn't giving her away to be Lily Diggory, but instead Lily Potter. She can keep living her life the way she planned it years ago when the war was supposed to be over the next month: two kids, a house in a nice neighborhood, work as a Healer when she'd rather be an Auror.
If she closes her eyes, she can choose the life she has right now, instead of the one that could be; poor, with four children, a dangerous life as an Auror in a growing war, love that can ignite the stars.
If she closes her eyes, she will prove them all right, do most of them proud.
But living is easy with eyes closed.
So she opens her eyes, and walks away. Walks to where she knows he will be. And when he looks up and sees that there is no promise ring on her finger, he only smiles and says, "What took you so long?"
She's always hated easy things.
