Jinenji's Vigil
Alone, Jinenji goes
about his day
Working in the sunny,
sweaty fields,
And if the villagers
stay away
His heart produces less
than his crop's yield.
Women lower their eyes
as they pass him
And whisper low as
though he cannot hear them.
He clings to memories
that will never dim:
A girl with eyes that
sparkled like rare gems,
Who never showed him
disdain, distaste, distrust,
And for the first time
in his life he thought
He finally knew the
pain of love combust.
Since Kagome left, he's
been distraught,
But patiently he
endures his heart's burn,
Waiting for the day she
will return.
