Caelum Potest Expectare

Just a quick story that came to me and inspired reading a couple of other stories on here. Hope you enjoy.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters. They belong to the estate of ESG. I just adore them.

Perry Mason looked at his watch again and sighed impatiently. Next to him Paul Drake flicked the end of his cigarette away and grinned.

"Relax Pal she won't be too much longer," he offered.

"I know Paul, but she's been far too long for my liking." Perry mumbled grumpily.

"Well, you left her to it. All on her own to deal with what was left behind."

"I know but it was hardly my fault. It wasn't up to me to get out of there. It just happened."

"True. But you know as well as I do, she manages all things like a trooper. What time was she due?"

"Last I checked, they said at a little after 9am." He glanced at his watch again, this time far more nervously as he saw the dial on his watch showing 09:01.

Paul patted him on the shoulder.

"You sure have the jitters."

"I've just missed her that's all."

"Yeah I know," Paul smirked. "You've been bending my ear about it for what seems like forever."

"What the hell's keeping her!" Perry was openly losing patience.

"Temper, temper Counsellor." The roll of thunder made Paul turn the collar of his jacket up and give a little shiver.

The slight figure came towards them. Perry's face split into a huge grin, his eyes turning to the color of the ocean and twinkling in happiness.

"Well, well, well Counsellor, fancy seeing you here." The smooth voice purred as they reached out and joined hands.

"I thought for a horrible minute you'd gone the wrong way Miss Street!" Della threw back her head and laughed.

"I've missed you too." Their lips met in a blistering kiss. When they showed no signs of breaking the smooch, Paul coughed. Reluctantly they parted.

"You kids now have plenty of time for that now."

"Okay folks," the Angel interrupted their reunion. "Time to get back inside the gate. She's here now and you need to come back in. You know how He gets cranky if it's open too long."

Della arched a perfect eyebrow. "Burger?" she asked in amusement.

"No God. He says it gets too draughty."

"So there really is a Heaven and I'm here?"

"Yeah. Come on Baby we'll give you the guided tour." Perry slipped an arm about Della's waist and pulled her close. "And, we have almost 25 years to make up for."

Fin

(I didn't want to give it away and yes I'm sure you know the title is Heaven Can Wait)
