Chapter 15: Eda's Requiem
Part 1
At Emperor Belos Castle.
The Legion of Five were summoned by Emperor Belos in his throne room. They stood in front of him and kneeled down as he sat on his throne with Kikimora, Dr Cushing and Hunter standing by his side.
Emperor Belos: Let me remind you five that you were summoned here to find the rebellion that's disrupting my rule. Yet you have not found any trace of them. How can that be? Shadam?
Shadam's eyes widened when he set his attentions to him.
Shadam: My Emperor, this something I have not encountered before. My oracle visions have always been able to find enemy bases yet they're somehow evading my power.
Emperor Belos: I can accept that they're using a spell to cloak their base, but what about finding the rebels themselves. Why have none of you captured at least one of them for interrigation.
Satarakura: Okay Magnificance check this out. I did come across one of them. I was arresting a wild witch and chased her down. Until one of those rebels stopped me with their bard magic. But I had em, I used my illusions to mess with them. I was winning, until those lugnuts of abomitons had to come along! And mess up my timing.
Emperor Belos didn't seem amused and faced the palm of his hand at Satarakura and an electricity shot out electricuting him.
Emperor Belos: An interesting tale Satarakura. But here is the thing. I'm already dealing a lot with the delays of Day of Unity and the Titan is growing restless. So, either find the rebels by the end of the week...
Emperor Belos eyes glowed blue.
Emperor Belos:...or be banished from this coven and be petrified. You're dismissed.
The five got up as they left the throne room and back to their lounge.
Voffa: He is growing desperate.
Mikela: I worked too hard to get here. I'm not going to die by being petrified. Than that would show that I wasn't good enough to please my Emperor.
Selene: This isn't just about you Mikela. We're all going to be petrified if we don't succeed.
Satarakura: For once, I can't even think of a joke to clear my mind.
They looked back at Shadam who was sitting by his fire, chanting and trying to find the rebels.
Mikela: Hey Shadam! We're in a meeting here and we need to think.
Shadam paid no attention to him as he kept chanting.
Voffa: You must not bother him, he's searching.
Mikela: Oh ho right, he's searching. And where is that gotten us nothing, just sitting there being lazy.
Suddenly Shadam stopped chanting and set his eyes to Mikela. His eyes glowed and shot out an eye beam at Mikela, barely missing him.
Shadam: Silence! This isn't as easy as you think. There really is something blocking my visions.
Selene: He might have a point. They're doing everything they can to not get caught. But the thing is, someone would have to know you're back to hide themselves.
Satarakura: Find people. You mean a...( gasps) spy? Which one of you is the imposter!?
Voffa: You fool! None of us are.
Mikela: So, you think one of the rebels is a spy here huh?
Selene: I'm going back to see the Emperor. You all go back outside to search?
Mikela: Wait just us. Selene!
Selene leaves the room.
Mikela: Whoa, whoa who made her the boss.
Voffa: She might be onto something brother. We must find these rebels or it's curtains for us.
Satarakura: Yeah let's listen to her. She our commrade. We are commrades. Right Shady.
Shadam: I don't like to agree anything for you, but for this one time yes. Let's head out.
Mikela: Alright hold on.
Mikela gets his staff and at high speed starts painting the walls with twelve dorodoros. They emerge out of the wall as they approach Mikela.
Mikela: Get out there to Bonesborough and start looking for the rebels. Do not comeback until you find them or get a clue.
The dorodoros nods as they leave with the four.
Meanwhile at the Owl House.
Luz: Alright guys now time for our stretch routine.
Luz was with Christa and King as they were outside training. They were on the floor with place mats on the ground, stretching their legs. Christa did the best she could while King struggled.
Luz: Remember go as far as you can. If you feel the pain, it's good. If you don't you're not doing it right. No pain no gain as they say back home.
King: Ugh, Luz why is this even necessary. This is a race on staffs not a marathon.
Luz: Stretching is important King. You got wake up your muscles.
King: I would if I had any muscles.
Christa: Come on King, just do your best. You want win don't you?
King: ( groans) Yeah.
Luz: Okay let's move on. Christa your staff please.
Christa: Right, come here Howl.
Christa's wolf palisman Howl approached her. He jumped up and turned into her staff. The three of them hung their legs on it as they began doing situps. As they kept excercing, Archimedes arrived at the house.
Archimedes: Oh morning everyone. Starting the day with some excericise.
Luz: Hey Archy, we're training for the Gland Prix this weekend.
Archimedes: Is it this weekend?
Christa: Yeah now that I got my new staff, we thought this would be a good chance to show off our skills.
Archimedes: I wish the three of you luck. Anyway is Eda here?
Luz: Yeah she's inside. Go right ahead.
Archimedes: Thank you.
Archimedes enters the house.
Archimedes: Hey E. You home?
No one seemed to be inside, but made his way up stairs and saw Eda's room, the door slightly opened and saw Eda sitting at her make up station with a to do list.
Eda: Okay, Luz needs a new coat. Chrissy needs to go get her hair done and King needs to be checked for fleas. Am I missing anything?
Archimedes: Yes, you're missing me.
Eda felt Archimedes wrap his arms around her neck. She smiled and held his arm.
Eda: I don't need a list to add you to anything.
Eda turned and kisses him.
Eda: You're always going to be on the top of my mind for now.
Archimedes: Same with you.
Eda: So what brings you here?
Archimedes: Just came to see my lovely E. Come on.
Archimedes tried pulling Eda off her chair as she playfully struggled.
Eda: Archy wait, I'm still haven't put make up or brushed my hair.
Archimedes: What? You look good the way you are. I want to see that beutiful face of yours.
Eda: Archy.
The two playfully struggle until they both fell on her bed nest.
Eda: Oh you want to play it that way huh? Come here!
Eda lunged at Archimedes, head locking him and nooging him.
Eda: How does it feel to be the prey Archy?
Archimedes: Eda! Ow! Eda stop! AAAAH!
Little later.
The two were downstairs as Eda was serving him a drink and then sat down next to him on the couch.
Eda: So have you found anything else about the pod or the symbol.
Archimedes: Not really. Even with the update knowledge of History coven, I spoke around to some colleagues but they don't know either. But the weirdest thing, I get the feeling I might have seen it once or read about it before. A long time ago when I was very young.
Eda: Hey I know your doing your best. You did find out what the pod is. I definitly wouldn't have figured it out. Don't work yourself to death okay Archy? You'll figure it out soon.
Eda placed a kiss on his cheek.
Archimedes: Of course E. ( wraps his arm around her) You're so thoughtful. So how about you Eda? You doing okay?
Eda: I am. Just me and those goofs outside. Lily left the week to visit mom. Matti's been checking me to make sure I'm okay.
Archimedes: Are the Emperor's Coven giving you any trouble?
Eda: Now and then. Actually Luz and Chrissy told me how they saved those palisman from Shadam, but they had help from believe it or not the Golden Guard. They told me this to explain Chrissy's sudden new palisman.
Archimedes: The Golden Guard? But he works for the Emperor.
Eda: Eh they said he was mainly trying to save his own behind.
Archimedes: Was he has bad as they say he is?
Eda: Chrissy says he's not that bad and Luz tells me he's really more of a bad but sad boy.
Archimedes: Glad they're not hurt. But should be more careful.
Eda: I know, but I know what they're capable of, they can take care of themselves.
Meanwhile outside.
Luz: Okay Christa, because this is your staff I think you should be the one to lead the race.
Christa: Are you sure? I mean I haven't really flown with it yet.
Luz: Don't worry, this what training is for. I think this is perfect to improve your skills. Okay, I want you to fly around those trees and back. Give me three laps.
Christa: I think I can do that. Let's go Howl.
Howl turned into her staff as she got on.
Luz: Just three laps.
King: You can do it Christa.
Christa: Okay uh how does this work uh...fly?
Christa flew up. But she was going all over losing control.
Christa: AAAAH! Luz!
Luz: Keep it straight! Keep the staff straight!
Christa tried to do as she said. She kept the balance on the staff straight and flew bit more easily. Then she flew around the trees and back to Luz and King, making her first lap. She seemed to be doing alright and completed to other two laps.
Christa: I did it!
Luz: Yeah Christa!
King: Knew you were able to do it!
Luz: Okay come down.
Christa tried to but didn't know how.
Christa: Uh Luz. Where are the breaks?
Luz: There are no breaks!
Christa: How do you land this thing!?
Christa was freaking out and was losing balance the staff and flew around crazy again. She even almost hit Luz and King, which the two ducked before they could get hit.
Luz: Christa calm down!
King: Yeah and please don't try and kill us.
Luz: ( gasps) Watch out for that...
But it was too late as Christa crashed into a tree. The two watch as she falls off of each branch ( comedically), until she finally landed on the ground on her face.
Christa: Ow...my face.
King: Ooh, that's gonna leave a mark.
Back inside.
Eda and Archimedes were watching the news about the new head of the Bard Coven announced through the crystal ball.
Anchorwoman: And we're back live at the Emperor's castle. In light of Scooter Crane's retirement, today's ceramony confirms Raine Whisperers as the next head of the Bard Coven.
Archimedes: Hey, that's old Band geek. I don't believe it, they actually made it as Head Bard.
Eda: Yeah, I mean they were so determined on accomplishing this.
They saw the footage Raine on the stage and being handed the Bard Medallion from Abomination head Darius.
Raine: Do I have to be on camera?
Darius: For Titan's sake just say something and don't forget to smile. I have an image to keep up.
Raine: But isn't this about me?
Darius: Uh yes, that's what I meant to say. Now shut up, smile and just say something.
Raine: But you just told me to shut up.
Darius: Just face the camera!
Raine showed their face to the camera as they looked nervous.
Raine: Uh hi. I'm honored to work with Emperor Belos in preparation for the Day of Uniby. I mean Unily. I mean...oh this is going wrong I can't do this! Get me out of here!
Raine runs away with Darius looking disappointed.
Darius: Oh come on you had one job! Uh...get that camera out of my face.
Archimedes: Wow, that is...that is just sad.
Eda: I know. How are you supposed to be head Bard if you have stage fright?
Then the door opens as they saw Luz and King helping Christa inside, she was shown having a tissue over her face.
Luz: Okay that's it, we're almost there.
Eda: You okay Chrissy?
Christa just replies to her with a nod.
Luz: She got a bloody nose while training.
Christa: Am I gonna die Luz?
Luz: You'll be fine, everyone gets them.
Eda: You can stop for today if it's too hard.
Christa: But I need to master the basics today if we're gonna win the race.
Eda: Race?
King: Yeah this weekend is the Gland Prix.
Luz: Students from Hexside, Glandus and St. Epedern will be competing to win glory and honor...
King: And fame! Winners also get an interview with the Boiling Isles news. If we won this could be me and Christa's chance to send a message to our parents. I know my dad is out there somewhere and if he is. There's something I need to tell him.
Archimedes: That's gonna be quite an achievement. I hope for you to win.
Eda: Yeah...that's...that's great.
Eda looked a bit nervous hearing this. Was this implying they were leaving soon?
Luz: Anyway let's clean up Christa first before we move on.
The three of them went upstairs leaving the Eda and Archimedes behind.
Archimedes: You must be proud Eda. Having those three around. They really keep you company.
Eda: Yeah, yeah they do uh...excuse me I gotta use the bathroom.
Eda left the room and went upstairs. She was behind the bathroom door the trio were in and evesdropped, listenting to their conversation.
Luz: And your done.
Christa: Oh good, I thought it wouldn't stop leaking.
Luz: So what are you guys going to do the first thing you meet your parents?
Christa: Well, I thought having a happy reunion was enough. But definitly introduce my family to you guys so we can still see each other.
King: Well when we're done training I'm gonna move out of that closet that's for sure. Then I'm gonna ugly cry hard.
Luz: Have you told Eda about your decsion?
Eda's eyes widened on that part. What decision.
King: Well...no. I just don't know how to tell her or how to react.
Christa: I'm sure she'd understand and would be proud of it.
Eda stepped back on that part. She was hoping it wasn't what she thought but it was, King plans to move out and be with his dad.
Eda: ( in her mind) Everyone's leaving, even King.
Eda went back downstairs, but tried to keep her cool around Archimedes.
Archimedes: There's my lovely E.
Archimedes pulled her down to sit next to him as he placed a kiss on her cheek.
Archimedes: Hey where's my kiss?
Eda: Oh, uh sorry. Wasn't thinking for a moment.
Eda gave him a kiss on his cheek.
Eda: There you go. I'd never forget about you Archy.
Then the three came back downstairs.
Christa: Okay, let's try this again. This time I am not going to crash.
Luz: We're gonna head back outside guys.
Eda: Oh okay, uh good luck.
King: Oh um Eda, I have something to tell you. See I've been thinking, I think it's time for me to le...
Eda: Leave! Uh...leave the talking for later. If you want to win, there's no time for talk. You gotta go practice.
King: Oh uh okay, later then.
Luz: Alright let's go.
The three of them run outside.
Archimedes: You okay? What was that right there?
Eda: Uh nothing, I just, just want them to focus. Have them give it there all.
Archimedes: You sure?
Eda: Positive really.
Archimedes wasn't buying it and knew there was more to it. But before he could get Eda to be honest with him, he recieves a message from his scroll to come back to his work and got up.
Archimedes: I gotta go, work needs me. Hey um, are you free Saturday night, after the race? We haven't really gone on any dates yet and I really want to spend some time together.
Eda: Oh yeah, yeah! I'd like to do that too. Just you and me Archy.
Archimedes bent down and the two kissed goodbye and he went out. Once he was gone, Eda looked down with a frown.
Later at the Grimgrub's Pub.
Eda was there drowning her sorrows with apple blood.
Eda: I just...( groans)...don't want to hear him say it. I mean, I knew Luz wasn't going to stay here forever and she's looking for a way back. Chrissy as much as I like having her, is only staying with us until we can find her home, but now King? I was finally getting used to having people in the house and whoosh! Rugs ripped out right underneath me. You get me Kevin?
Kevin the Bartender: Right. It's like everytime you come in here I think, maybe she'll pay her tab this time.
But then she heard a commotion from behind and turned and saw coven guards Carl and Earl arresting a witch.
Witch: Hey back off!
Earl: Don't worry folks there is nothing to see here. We are just helping this wild witch find her place.
Carl: Please go back to your drinks.
Witch: I don't want to be in a coven. Let me go.
Carl: Look don't make this harder for yourself lady. It's either that or be petrified.
Carl and Earl dragged her out of the pub, but Eda couldn't stand it.
Eda: Put it on my tab Kevin.
Kevin the bartender: ( groans)
Eda goes outside and confronts the two.
Eda: Let her go.
Earl: Ugh, not you again. Back off Owl Lady.
Carl: Look we're just here to get her. You don't want any trouble, then scram. I mean no coven wants a powerless witch.
But then Eda, punches Carl in the face, turning his helmet backwards.
Carl: OW!
Eda: How's that for powerless?
Earl: Carl you okay?
Carl repositioned his helmet and glared at Eda.
Carl: Oh that is it.
Carl formed a spell circle about to attack her. But then it shattered. They looked confused and heard music playing. They turned and saw the four masked rebels, who were all bards playing as their musical magic, levitating the objects and Carl and Earl up in the air. They stopped playing as the two guards fell to the ground and their leader ( Raine) spoke.
Raine: Look at the Emperor's lackey's, trying to uh...uh...do I really have to say this?
Katya: We all agreed on the script.
Raine: ( sighs) Fine. Trying to uh...mute the music of our hearts? ( whispers)Oh this is so cheesy. ( outloud) Um and weaken magic by forcing witches into covens against their will.
Carl: Hey yo! Just who the heck do you think you are?
Raine: We are the Bards against the Throne, aka The Bats!
Earl: It's the rebels. Let's get em Carl.
Carl and Earl rushed towards Raine, but then they used their magical violin and pulled each string one at a time which then controlled Carl and Earl. Raine made them stop in place and then march away from them.
Earl: Hey what's going on? I can't control myself.
Carl: Me neither. You haven't seen the last of us you rebels we will...wait no, not towards the trash can!
But they ended up knocking down the trash can and walking through the trash and out of the scene.
Earl: Ew, that's nasty.
Carl: Oh Titan, theirs a diaper on my face!
Raine: That ought to even things out.
Mikela: I wouldn't count on it.
Mikela and Voffa arrived, with earmuffs and with them an army of dorodoros and coven scouts.
Mikela: Ha ha, oh we got you now. You're busted! Busted!
Voffa: There is no where else to run. You four are under arrest for crimes against the Emperor.
Eda: Pssst.
The rebels looked down and saw Eda peeking out a manhole and showing them a way to escape.
Mikela: Any last words before we turn you in and be executed. Or better yet interrigated and tortured. I like to have some fun with some new torture devices we got hold of.
Raine: Yeah, byyyyyye!
Raine throws down a smoke ball, creating a red smoke around the area for them to escape. The smoke cleared up and they were gone.
Mikela: What?! But how did? Just how?!
Voffa: You just had to jinx it with the torture devices didn't you?
Mikela: Hey is it wrong to be a bit optimistic?
As the two were arguing, another figure appeared from behind the crowd. He took off his hood and was revealed to be Thomas Harmony.
Thomas: So you're at it again aren't you Eda?
Then he grinned and gave a silent chuckle.
Thomas: But you're not getting away from me this time.
Meanwhile.
Eda lead the rebels through the sewer line and eventually made it outside.
Eda: End of the line folks. Word of advice, next time you put out a performance like that make sure you have an exit strategy.
Katya: Thank you. How can we ever repay you?
Eda: Well, you could let me in on your little team. I mean I may not have magic, but I am agent of chaos.
Raine: Sorry, we're not accepting new members.
Eda: Is that anyway to treat an old friend...
Eda unmasks the leader revealing to be Raine.
Eda: Raine Whispers?
Raine: Eda...
Eda: So, the head witch of the Bard Coven likes pretending to be a rebel. Too bad they're not very good at it.
Raine: ( blushes) Eda! You're embarrassing me in front of my crew.
Raine's crew looked confused.
Raine: It's alright everyone. The Owl Lady is an old friend.
The other three unmasked themselves, the only other one who recognized her was Katya who she and Luz met back at the coformatorium. The other two were Derwin and Amber.
Katya: Nice to see you again.
Derwin: Is she going to join our group?
Amber: She doesn't seem like a good fit to me.
Raine: Actually she inspired me to make the group.
Eda looked at him a bit suprised that she inspired him to do this, but then they heard something.
Voffa: I think I heard something over here.
They looked up and saw Voffa's shadow coming near the cliff. The Bards against the Coven were about to run off.
Raine: Hey, if you really mean it. We could use the help.
Raine offered Eda their hand. Eda took it as they ran off to their base.
Later.
They snuck their way through Bonesborough and made it into an alleyway. At first it was a dead end, until Derwin pushed the brick panels on the walls in a specific order, opening a door. They quickly got in before anyone could see. They went down the stairs and soon made it to their base.
Raine: Here it is. Our super secret hideout.
Eda: Really. Love what did to the place it homey. In an old comic book superhero kinda way.
Raine: I know it looks old but no one knows a thing about it.
Eda: Uh huh right. Hey so, what made want to do this to begin with.
Raine: Well ever since I started teaching for the Bard Coven, read how the Emperor prioritized recruitment by force and anyone who refused to fall in line disappeared. But I never truly understood why and I couldn't stand that. So I carefully moved up the ranks and along the way I met people who thought he same thing. That's when we formed the Bards Against the Throne, or for short the Bats.
Eda: Heh clever. But you know the Legion of Five are here and one of them is an oracle. How has he not found you?
Raine: Shadam can't find us because of these.
Raine showed her glyphs with -*- symbol on it with a circle around it.
Riane: These are cloaking glyphs, we placed this all over the base. I've read in old history books that these were used for witches to hide from authorities and oracle visions. But they can only work if you used a special kind of ink to draw it. He can try and find us all he wants, but no luck.
Eda: Very clever. You really thought of every possibility didn't you?
Raine: You always got to know these things. I mean well be prepared.
Eda chuckles and lightly punches his arm.
Raine: Ow...Eda.
Eda: Heh, yup you maybe a rebel, but still the same awkward witch I knew.
Raine: I'm not awkward. Hey so, how's everyone else. Do you still see your sister, Matti or Egghead?
Eda: Yeah, well a lot lately. Well you heard about Lily I'm sure. But she and I have been making up for lost time. Matti checks me now and then. Archy well...we actually started talking to each other face to face again.
Raine: Really. And you guys are okay, despite what happened to him.
Eda: He made it perfectly clear he holds no resentment towards me. We still kept in touch over the years He helped in finding my elixer, he writes to me once in a while, warns me if the Emperor's Coven is coming for me. But we rarely saw each other face to face and... well you remember Thomas right?
Raine: That jerk from school?
Eda: Yeah, he put me under a spell to fall for him. But Archy helped me break free, we said somethings and...and we finally got together.
Raine looked up to her.
Raine: Did you really?
Eda: Yeah. I finally got to tell him how I felt and he told me how he really felt.
Eda realized what she was saying and saw Raine looked at her.
Eda: Sorry, did I say too much.
Raine: No it's fine. I'm happy for you really. I mean as far as I remembered you did have feelings for him back in school
Eda: I never told you that!
Raine: You didn't have to, it was kinda obvious.
Eda: Hm, yeah. Hey what about you. You ever found someone else.
Raine: Not really, but considering what I've been doing these past couple years you can see why.
Eda: So now what?
Raine: Well, we can't let Belos petrifiy more witches. We're planning a raid tomorrow night. We have to save the imprisoned witches that are being taken to the castle, but I need to get some supplies before the raid.
Eda: You do that, I got some maps I made all around Bonesborough.
Raine: You have that?
Eda: Hey when you're a wanted witch on the run, you gotta know every hiding spot and getaway.
Raine: Alright then, meet back here tomorrow night so we can go over the plan.
Eda: ( nods) I'll be here.
The next day.
Eda was at home, she was in her room gathering the maps she made of each section of Bonesborough. She made her way outside as she watched Luz, Christa and King training. Luz and King were on the groud guiding Christa on her staff.
Luz: That's it Christa, your doing good.
King: Just keep on going.
Christa: I'm getting it. I think I'm getting it.
Christa went through the obstacle course they made and she seemed to be doing good, until she hit the edge of one of the obstacles, causing her to lose balance and fall off, but Hooty reached to her and caught her, gently placing her.
Christa: Whoa that was close. ( hugs Hooty) Thanks Hoot Hoot. You're my hero.
Hooty: Oh your welcome CC. Don't worry, I'm not letting you get hurt again best buddy.
Luz: Despite that slip up at the end, you're improving a lot.
Christa: Alright, shall we try again. King why don't you come with me on this one.
King: Okay but go easy, I get a bit queasy flying sometimes.
Hooty: And don't worry. If anything your old pal Hooty will catch you and even sing you song to keep you calm.
King: I'll definitly won't need the latter.
Christa and King got onto her staff as they flew again. Then Luz saw Eda walking by.
Luz: Hey Eda, King's still waiting to talk to you.
Eda: Oh uh maybe later.
Eda walked a little faster to get away.
Luz: Oh okay. Maybe at the Gland Prix.
Eda: Oh yeah I'll be there. I promise.
Meanwhile.
Mathilda was at the market as she was standing in front of a stand.
Mathilda: Um let's see. I'll take two of those ginsent, four chamomile herbs, three feverfews and two valerian.
Merchant: Of course.
The merchant gathered the items Mathilda ordered and placed it all in a bag.
Merchant: 25 snails please.
Mathilda: Here you are thank you.
Merchant: No thank you miss.
As Mathilda walked away, she looked into the bag to make sure everything was there.
Mathilda: Is that everything. Wait is that four chamomiles or three? Wait no it's four.
But then she bumped into Raine, the two both dropped their bags and glasses.
Mathilda: Oh, I am so sorry. I didn't mean...
Raine: It's okay I wasn't looking. I dropped my glasses.
Mathilda: Me too.
Then they both found their glasses and placed it on, but it was actually each others.
Mathilda: Wait, I still can't see right.
Raine: This isn't mine.
Then they swapped glasses and once regained vision they immediatly recognized each other.
Raine: Mathilda?
Mathilda: Raine? Oh my gosh, Raine Whispers. Long time no see.
Mathilda hugged Raine, which he did also.
Raine: It has been forever. It's funny bumping into you here.
Mathilda: I know. I was just getting herbs to experiment with tonight. Trying to come up with new or improved remedies.
Raine: I see I was just gathering supplies for uh...um...let's say work.
Mathilda: Oh right I heard. Congratulations on becoming the new head of the Bard Coven.
Raine: Thank you. I mean it is quite an accomplishemnt.
The two looked away, blushing and not knowing what else to say.
Raine: So I guess I should get going.
Mathilda: Wait, um you want to talk a bit. I know a good place for tea. Let me treat you to celebrate your success.
Raine: Well...
Raine looked at his watch, but did see he still had some time.
Raine: Perhaps I have some time to kill.
Later.
The two were at a tea house as they drank some tea and had some pastries as they talked.
Mathilda: Well, how does it feel to be head of the Bard Coven?
Raine: Well... scary actually. I mean I worked hard to get it, but you know this is all new and you saw how I flaked out during the ceramony.
Mathilda: Knowing you, you always had stage fright.
Raine: Very funny. So Mathilda...
Mathilda: Please, call me Matti.
Raine: Matti, I'm sorry I haven't talked to you much lately. It's just...
Mathilda: Hey it's fine. I get it, you've been busy. But I have missed you.
Raine: Yeah, I've missed you as well. So how's things been with you?
Mathilda: Everything's fine with me. I've been working with Eda's mom still, hoping to find a cure to her curse. Speaking of which, have you ever spoken to Eda again ever since...well you know broke up?
Raine: Well, not too often. Actually I did just see her uh...yesterday.
Mathilda: Really? Anything happen?
Raine: Uh no. No, no nothing too crazy. I mean nothing crazy at all! Just talked a bit and caught up. She congratulated me for making it as a coven head. In her own way.
Mathilda: ( giggles) Yeah I can imagine it.
Raine: Hey so I didn't get to ask her, but has anything else happened to her regarding her curse?
Mathilda: Well she's just been keeping it stabalized still. Though she's not really powerful anymore, she still got skills and wit. But she has been happy ever since she and Archimedes got together.
Raine: Right, she told me.
Mathilda: Oh so you know. You're not upset?
Raine: Hey, we had our moments together, but I've moved on. We're just friends now . If she's happy with her new relationship then I'm happy for her.
Mathilda: Glad your taking it well.
Raine: Trust me I'm fine. Hey so what about you? You found someone for you yet.
Mathilda: No. I mean, I haven't really tried to look for a suiter lately since I'm always searching for a cure or learning to remedies. But I don't know if I'll ever find that special someone. I'm an old lady.
Raine: Old? Have you looked in a mirror, you're one of the most beautiful witches I've seen.
Mathilda: ( blushes) Oh ho stop.
Raine: I mean it. I know you'll find someone soon. And one who will treat you well.
Raine and Mathilda looked at each other for a moment, but then they looked down seeing that Raine's hand was on hers. He got his hand off her and the two looked away blushing. When Raine looked away, he looked at his watch and saw it was almost.
Raine: Oh geez, listen I gotta go.
Mathilda: Did I make it...
Raine: No, no it's not you it's me. I mean it's not me it's... uh work. I got important work to do now as a coven head. Here.
Raine got out their wallet and paid the bill.
Mathilda: Wait no this was my treat.
Raine: A lady never has to pay when I'm around. It was really nice seeing you Matti. Hope we can talk again soon, bye.
Raine quickly walked away leaving Matti alone.
Mathilda: Okay...bye.
Mathilda just slowly waved at Raine leaving. She kept her eye on them until they were completely out her sight. She smiled as she enjoyed the time with them, thinking they were kinda cute, as always.
Later at the base.
Eda, Raine and their crew gathered together as Eda showed them the maps she had.
Eda: Well there you have it. Homemade maps of every nook and cranny in the city.
Raine: Okay, here's the situation. Emperor Belos wants every witch in a coven before the Day of Unity.
Derwin: He's trying to steal as much magic as possible. But we don't know why.
Raine: Right now we're only focused on rescuing those he's captured. And the next raids take place here, here and here.
Katya: At the same time? What do we do?
Eda: Don't worry kids. Mama's got a plan?
Amber: You're not our mom!
Later that night.
On Hexson road, coven scouts and dorodoros in the area as they were rounding up wild witches in a paddy wagon.
Carl: Alright you wild witches get in there!
Earl: Don't stop keep going! In there now!
Steve: Great job guys. With these wild witches arrested, the Emperor will surly be pleased. He might reward me with a shoulder pad. Let's get going.
The three got onto the front of the wagon and before they could leave, they then heard music. Music played by the flute. Amber was hididng playing a melody that would put them to sleep.
Steve: Hey why do I...( yawns) feel so tired?
Carl: ( yawns) Yeah me too.
Earl: I'm going to bed. Night, night.
The three of them fell asleep as did all the dorodoros. Once they were gone, Amber freed the trapped witches.
In Skinford Avenue.
The second team were arresting their part of the wild witches. Then they heard music playing and saw Katya and Derwin playing. A group of dorodoros chased after them. The only one there guarding was the captain, however he was easily taken out by Raine who used their magic to control is cape and wrap the captain up. Eda went to the second paddy wagon and freed the prisoners.
Raine: So far so good.
Eda: Only one more.
Later.
The group made it to third and final spot where the wild witches were being taken. They were on top of a building and looked down and saw coven scouts and dorodoros again in the area.
Eda: Okay, remember the plan. Amber, Katya and Derwin, you guys lead the dorodoros and scouts away from the area. Raine and I will take out the captain, free the prisoners and get out.
Katya: We got this.
Derwin: Piece of pie.
Katya: It's cake.
Derwin: Whatever.
Amber: Okay Mama Eda.
Raine: Let's finish this.
The plan so far went like they expected. Katya, Amber and Derwin lead most of the scouts away from the scene. Though a small number still stayed along with the captain, it wasn't much of a challenge for Raine and Eda. Raine used their violin and levitated the scouts and captain in the air. Then they dropped them on the ground and once they did, Eda placed an ice glyph on the ground and froze the group.
Raine: That's it.
Eda opened the paddy wagon door.
Eda: It's alright, you guys are free, let's go.
The wild witches emerged out of the wagon, as they did the rest of the Bat members returned.
Derwin: We lost them for now.
Eda: Good let's get out of here.
Mikela: Oh I don't think so.
Suddenly Mikela and Voffa warped in front of them.
Mikela: Hellooooo. It's me. Oh I just couldn't help but notice your little raid and I'm here to mess it up!
Voffa: There is no escape for you. We have you now!
Eda: You mooks won't be taking no one alive.
Eda took out an light glyph and tossed it at Mikela and Voffa. She took a rock on the ground and threw it at the light ball, causing it to burst and momentarly blinding them.
Raine: Remember the escape route. You guys take the hostages out of here. We'll hold them off.
The group did as he said and lead the hostages away from Mikela and Voffa.
Mikela: Damn you!
Mikela's staff lit up and fired an energy beam all around, but missing everyone.
Voffa: Stop it Mikela! Stop! You're going to kill me with that.
Mikela: I will not be humiliated like this.
They regained their vision and saw Eda and Raine.
Voffa: You rebels will regret this. But I will be happy to lead you all to Hell.
Voffa's crown of horns glowed and shot the ground forming his mini organ. He began to play as musical notes emerged and shot at Eda and Raine. They kept dodging the attacks. Raine got his violin and did the same. He formed his own musical note projectiles and fired at Voffa. He managed to deflect some his notes and hit Voffa. Voffa's crown of horns glowed and fired a ray of lightning at Raine who barely missed it.
Eda faced off Mikela. He first painted the wall fast and made three dorodoros. They ran up at her and tried to slash her with their daggers. However Eda dodged them all fast and took a plant glyph and fire glyph combo and whipped the three with a fire whip, the three fell to the ground and melted into paint. Mikela waved his staff, firing an energy projectile at Eda. She dodged one of them and took one of her potion bombs and threw it at him.
Meanwhile.
Archimedes was walking out of a building that was the History Club.
Archimedes: Same time next week guys?
Historian club member: Yeah, see you Archimedes.
Archimedes nodded at his clubmember and left. He walked through the dark city home, until he saw a group of people running through one of the streets. It was the Bats and the hostages. Archimedes looked confused as he quickly made his way to where they were running from he peeked and saw the battle between Mikela, Voffa and Raine and Eda. But because they were masked, he didn't recognize them. He stood there and watched to see what would happen.
Eda: Is that all you can do? And you call yourself a member of the Legion of Five.
Mikela: Is that all I can do? Ha, not even close.
Mikela's staff glew and a red lasso emerged from his staff and grabbed Eda. Then the lasso began to shock her. Eda yelled as Mikela began spinning her around, still shocking her until he lets go sent her flying to the ground. She landed near Archimedes. He saw her mask in front of him. Eda got up, rubbing her head. Archimedes eye's widened shocked to see her.
Archimedes: Eda?!
Eda turned to him, as she was shocked to see him.
Eda: Archimedes.
Archimedes: Eda what are you...
Mikela: Set your attentions back to me rebel!
Mikela was about to attack her again, until Raine appeared in front of him and let out a wave of magic at Mikela from their violin, knocking him down. They met back with Eda and took her arm.
Raine: There's nothing else we can do. Let's...
Raine stopped what they were saying when they saw Eda and Archimedes looking at each other and then at them.
Archimedes: Raine?
Raine: Let's go.
Raine threw down a smoke ball as the area started to smoke up as the two escaped. Archimedes looked around for a moment for them, but then left the scene when Mikela and Voffa tried looking for them.
Voffa: They got away.
Mikela: Again! Damn them!
Later.
After leading the hostages to safety, the Eda and the Bats made it back to their hideout.
Derwin: Oh man, that was. That was tiring.
Amber: I'm not tired yet.
Katya: Amber, you've gotta calm down.
Amber: But we did it.
Katya: Yeah I can't believe we actually saved people this time.
Raine laid down on the couch in the room.
Eda: Hey Raine storm.
Raine: ( chuckle) Haven't heard that one in a while. This was honestly the biggest accomplishment. Thanks for your help.
Eda: Eh no prob. I've always hated people bullying others.
Raine: Hey um, do you still know any bard spells?
Eda: Oh well, you remember the curse. Messes with my magic.
Raine forms a lute and hands it to Eda.
Raine: Come on, do it for old times sake.
Eda: Alright, you asked for it.
Eda began to play a musical tune. A song that Raine taught her a long time ago when they used to date, Raine's Raphsody. As she played a magic aura formed around the room levitating the objects around, but as she played it began to turn black as the objects started to turn black and crumble to dust. Their stuff was starting to crumble and she stopped playing.
Raine: Whoa.
Eda: Yeah, whoa. Raine's Raphsody, more like Eda's Requium. Anyway I'll let bard magic to the professionals. I gotta get going though.
Raine: Wait before you go, just one thing. Something I haven't told you yet. Regarding with what we may have found out.
Eda: What is it?
Raine lead her to another room for a private discussion.
Raine: Several months ago, we might have discovered something about Emperor Belos, but we're not sure.
Eda: What?
Raine: We had another member named Egon. He acted as a spy at the Emperor's castle disguised as a scout. His mission was to spy on the Emperor and find out more about the Day of Unity or why he is so desperate on executing wild witches. That was until he sent me this letter.
Raine showed Eda the letter.
Raine: He said he discovered that the Day of Unity is not what it seems and Belos is probaby getting outside help from this, thing. He discovered something in the castle. Something horrifying.
Eda: What was it?
Raine: It was vague but he said he saw with Belos some kind of...some kind of demon or monster talking to him. At first he thought it was the Titan, but he thought otherwise judging by their conversation. The one thing he was able to tell us for sure was that this thing with Belos was purely and simply, evil. He said to meet him at the docks to find out more about it and what else he learned. But then we were ambushed. Shadam appeared from behind and stabbed him through the back to his chest. We tried to save him, but his last words before dying was " Find the Eye. Find the Eye and prevent the Day of Unity." After those last words, he died in my arms. I've tried looking up what this Eye he is referring to, but so far couldn't find any results or what it is. But I won't let his death be in vain.
Eda: I'm sorry to here that. I never trusted that tyrant when my sister told me he had a cure. But now I know he really is up to something. I don't who Belos is conspiring with, but it's bad then I won't let him do it. I don't know what this Eye is either, but I'll look into it. I'll do what I can to help.
Eda placed her hand on their shoulder.
Eda: You got my support Raine Storm.
Raine: ( nods) Thanks Eda. We'll need it.
The next day.
Eda was making her way back to the house. She didn't see Luz, Christa or King around. She entered inside and saw Archimedes sitting on the couch giving her stern look.
Eda: Archy. You here to give me a surprise?
Archimedes: Eda we need to talk.
Eda: Uh oh.
Eda approached him sat next to him.
Eda: Okay what's the matter?
Archimedes: What were you doing last night?
Eda: Eh, just out with some friends saving the innocent.
Archimedes: And facing the Legion of Five?
Eda: Yeah.
Archimedes: What were you and Raine doing? Was that Raine there?
Eda: Yeah, they've been onto Belos and his plans and is trying to save the wild witches being captured and find out what he's up to. I helped them escape and I joined in their group.
Archimedes: They're the leader of the rebellion against the Emperor?
Eda: Yeah and last night as you saw, we were saving the arrested wild witches, but then we got tangled with Mikela and Voffa.
Archimedes: Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?
Eda: Hey this isn't something new. I've had history with the Emperor's Coven for years. You know that, you've been helping me with that.
Archimedes: That's different. I was helping you get away from them. Facing them head on is suicide. Especially now that your powerless.
Eda: I maybe powerless, but I can take care of myself. I'm not a weakling.
Archimedes: Eda, you're not just putting your life in danger, but you're worrying your friends. Does Luz, Christa or King know?
Eda: No, they don't.
Archimedes: You're doing all this behind our backs?
Eda: I'm sorry but I'm doing this to help an old friend. After what we had before I just wanted too...
Archimedes: Wait had?
Eda covered her mouth
Archimedes: What are you talking about.
Eda: ( sighs) Okay Archy, before you and I well...during my run and I stayed away from you, the only ones I stayed contact with were Matti and Raine. Next to you, I also spent some time with them and, we played some songs and well...
Archimedes: You mean, you two had a thing?
Eda replies with a nod as he turned his back covering his face.
Eda: Archy please understand, things were different for us at the time.
Archimedes: I don't believe this.
Eda: Come on don't be that way. ( smirks) You're not jelly are you?
Archimedes: No that's not it. Eda what you're doing is extremely dangerous and stupid.
Eda was now getting upset and defensive.
Eda: Are you saying I do stupid things in general?
Archimedes: I'm asking you how dangerous it is. You do know you don't have your powers anymore. You nearly got petrified and you got easily got hypnotized by your crazed ex boyfriend stalker!
Eda: Something like that could have happened to anybody. He followed us.
Archimedes: What will happen to the girls if they find out you were killed? Or King, Hooty or me?
Eda: I'm not easy to kill and they don't need me! They're not going to be with me forever. Luz and Christa are trying to find their families and King plans on leaving. I heard him say it.
Archimedes: Even if they are, they still need you as of now and what about me?! Am I not worth living for?!
Eda: I'm doing this for us!
Archimedes: No you're not. You're doing this for your own enjoyment. Eda I know you've always been the adventurous type, but for once think of the consequences.
Eda: You know what, I see what's going on here. You're just jealous because I'm hanging out with my ex.
Archimedes: Jealous!? I'm trying to reason with you!
Eda: This is who I am Archimedes. I never leave friends alone and always back them up. You know that and you can't change that!
Archimedes: You know what, fine.
Archimedes got up and went towards the door. He spoke but didn't look at her.
Archimedes: If this is how you feel Eda then fine. Do whatever you want. You are the Owl Lady after all, but just know this, I will not be there to back you up. Not this time.
Eda let out a small gasp. Her eyes began to water, but she got up and looked away from him.
Eda: I was never a damsel in distress. I can take care of myself.
Without another word, Archimedes exits the house. When he was gone Eda quickly got to her room and shuts the door. She leaned against the door and slid to the ground. She covered her eyes and sobbed. She was hurt of everything just happened, the argument and how it ended. The words Archimedes said to her really hurt her. Eda was known to be tough and could withstand pain, but words hurt her worst. She felt that, not only was her short lived relationship over, but she probably lost her best friend also. One she always loved being with. Maybe she thought what she was doing was dangerous and suicidal, but she couldn't leave Raine either. She doesn't leave any friends behind. But she couldn't truly tell what she was doing was right or wrong. Helping a friend and worrying others or leaving that friend and be there for the others. All she could think of was now officially being alone. Not just of those kids living with her who will one day leave, but now losing Archimedes.
Archimedes got his staff ready and was about to fly. But then he looked back at the house and frowns. He tried to look away and flew off. But he didn't stay up flying for long. He soon landed in the woods and placed his head on a tree and slammed his fist on it. He was upset, but it wasn't really about Eda, it was at himself. He was only looking out for her, but maybe he was too hard on her. He shouldn't have said that he would not be there for her. How could he say that when she's always been there for him. Maybe he overreacted, but he was scared of losing Eda. Maybe he was jealous and he shouldn't be mad at Raine. They were friends as kids. After everything that's happened to them, he finally told her how he felt and they got together. But it was probably over now. He did think about if anything happens to Eda, he will look after the Luz, Christa and King. It's the least he could do if anything happens, but it doesn't make him feel any now felt like after how he acted, he can never look at her again.
Meanwhile at Emperor Belos Castle.
The Legion of Five gathered in their room.
Mikela: AAAAAAH! I can't take it anymore. The pressure is getting to me guys. We almost had them and then whoosh! They get away. Not to mention we lost a large quantity of wild witches. There's only one more day and we are so going to die! Why?!
Selene: Voffa slap him.
Voffa slaps Mikela across the face.
Mikela: Ow!
Voffa: This truly our darkest hour yet. Yes.
Satarakura: Ooh, I got idea. We'll fake our deaths, the castle's morgue has some dead bodies we can borrow and we'll take new names. I'll be Rusty Shakleford. Mikela you're Carl. Voffa, Bubbles.
Voffa: I am not calling myself that.
Satarakura: Selene you're Kagura and Shadam, Mefilas Seijin. Now lets hide. There are head hunters everywhere, a giant spider and a guy who doesn't know when WWll is over.
Mikela: What?!
Selene: You're not making any sense.
Shadam: Enough nonsense! We are not going to hide or fake our deaths. We'll be labled as wild witches and executed.
Mikela: We're gonna be executed either way! You're the oracle do something. Or Selene, you haven't done nothing since we got this news!
Selene: That's because I had an idea.
Satarakura: Oh, about the spy?
Selene: I did speak with the Emperor and he did agree with the idea of a possible spy. If I have proof, then bring this traitor in.
Voffa: So have you found the possible spy?
Selene: Waiting for my scout to return. Ah, there he is.
They heard a hissing noise and saw Kaa slithering back to her. She holds him up as he wraps around her neck gently and spoke to her.
Selene: Is that right? You're sure about this?
Kaa hissed at her in response and received a pet on his head from her.
Selene: I knew I can count on you Kaa.
Voffa: What is it?
Selene: Kaa has spent the last couple days spying on each member even the Coven heads who came by. Believe or not, he caught Bard head Raine Whispers eavesdropping on plans of arresting wild witches.
Satarakura: What?! You mean new head Raine is a rebel?
Shadam: Your sure about this?
Selene: Kaa is never wrong. He's the perfect spy. Isn't that right my lovely?
Selene pets Kaa much to his liking.
Mikela: Okay, okay this is good. We got a lead. Oh ho we're gonna live!
Voffa: But we still need to round up the rest of his rebels and we might need more proof. We're talking about accusing a coven head.
Thomas: You got your proof.
Then they heard another voice enter the room and it was Thomas.
Thomas: Nice place you got here?
Satarakura: Who the heck is that?
Voffa: Thomas Harmony! How did you get in here?
Thomas: The back door. You guys really need to keep that shut.
Voffa: I thought I told Steve to keep it locked!
Shadam: You are trespassing inside the Emperor's castle. Get out or else.
Thomas: Whoa, whoa easy. I want to help.
Mikela: You want to help us?
Thomas: Yeah, I've seen those guys pop up now and then and they never really bothered me, but I noticed Eda is with them.
Selene: The Owl Lady is on this too?
Thomas: Yes and I saw how lousy a performance Mikela and even you Master Voffa did last night.
Voffa: Guards!
Two coven scouts entered and grabbed hold of Thomas.
Voffa: Get him out of here. And make sure he's banned.
Thomas: Wait, wait just here me out. I can help you.
Voffa: Why would I ask for your help? Especially after last time
Thomas: Come on your still mad for the whole spell thing?
Voffa: That was a one of a kind spell and you used it just to make the Owl Lady fall for you.
Thomas: Okay look I'm sorry, but I'm here to make it up to you Master. I can help you gather those rebels under one condition.
Shadam: That is?
Thomas: I want Eda.
Shadam: Unacceptable! If the Owl Lady is involved in this she is to be taken back and will be petrified.
Thomas: Oh yeah sure, were you not here last time Emperor Belos tried that? Her human apprentice busted her out.
Voffa: Our Emperor allowed it.
Thomas: Look, just let me try to get her myself to be with me. I'll put a leash on her and make her do as I say. I'll even pay off the charges and take responsibility. If not than you can do whatever you want with her.
Voffa: Why are you even still pursuing her after she uh...broke your heart last time?
Thomas: Well despite her giving me an atomic wedgie that was so bad I had to go to the hospital to have them surgically remove the underwear...
Satarakura: PFFFFAHAHAHAHAH! OH HO HO! Oh that is just sad. BAHAHAHAHAHA!
Thomas: Shut up! It's not funny, it was actually painful. This happened twice to me and see these two teeth in front.
Thomas removes two fake teeth from his mouth, showing them the gap.
Thomas: These are fake.
Satarakura: Ahha! BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Thomas: ENOUGH! As I was saying, despite she doing those things, that's what I always liked about her. She was always hard to get and she's the perfect woman for me. I don't know what it is but there is something about her that just makes her irresistable to me. I want her, you want the rebels if you want to live. So how about a truce for now. Come on Master Voffa. For old times sake.
Voffa groaned and looked at his teamates.
Shadam: We don't have many options left.
Mikela: Hey I'll do anything if it means we live and the Emperor praising me, I mean us.
Satarakura: Come on, it'll be fun.
Selene: I guess we're all in.
Voffa: Alright fine you're in. What exactly did you have in mind?
Thomas: Well first I need some guys.
He looked behind the coven scouts and dorodoros behind him.
Thomas: Not these guys, they're kinda on the weak side. You got something more uh... big and strong?
Satarakura: Well there are the Abomitons but Emperor Belos says they're for castle use only and Kikimora won't give us hers.
Mikela: Don't need em! I got something better.
Mikela's staff glowed and he began painting the wall at fast speed. When he was done he showed them paintings of two beast demons. They were two bipedal reptilian monsters with gold teeth and claws. They had four fingers and three toes and stood 8 feet tall. They had long fangs sticking out from their upper jaws, a small horn on their snout and a another long horn on their head. Their back was spiked up like a crocodile, but did have one long dorsal spike in the middle and a row of spikes on their tails. They both had red eyes and their looks were the same except one was red and the other black.
Mikela: King Brothers! Arise! Do as I command!
The paintings of King Brothers began to move, then their eyes glowed and the red monster reached its hand out, becoming three dimensional and roaring ( stock Ultraman Black King roar).

Author's Note: That's it for this chapter. Sorry this one took a little longer, I was meeting with some family the past week and and had a lot to say in this one. At last I bring Raine to the story and I did have some plans for him. And yeah I decided to split this into two just to pace it better and I had a lot to say here.
