Chapter 19: Another Lead and Another Blight
At Hexside.
Luz and Christa were at potions class and they had an assignment to make their own brews. Luz seemed to be doing okay, but then she noticed Christa right next to her looking like she was having trouble. Her station was a mess and looked like she was mixing random potions together in test tubes and beakers.
Luz: Uh Christa you doing okay?
Christa: I-I got it Luz.
Luz: You sure? You need some help?
Christa: No, no. Teacher said we do this independently. I got it, really.
Christa took two test tubes one with a red liquid and one with green liquid and puts them in a beaker, making a yellow mixture and pours it into the pot in front of her. But the moment she did it started to shake and bubble.
Luz: Um is it supposed to do that?
Christa: Don't worry, it's just reacting to the mixer. It'll go down any second...
BOOM!
The potion mixture explodes, shattering the windows and the classroom as the yellow potion leaked out of the building and covering the entire classroom and everyone with it. No seemed hurt and all looked at Christa.
Christa: Uh ( nervouse laughs), oops.
Later at Principle Bump's.
Christa was sent to Principle Bumps office as Luz waited outside for her.
Principle Bump: ( groans) So let me get this straight. You used the wrong mixtures and caused an explosive chain reaction which resulted in destroying the classroom. This the third time this week you did this Ms Lightwing. And I'm still trying to cover the damages on detention and the auditorium.
Christa: I'm sorry Principle Bump. I'm just having trouble trying follow the potions track.
Principle Bump: So what you're saying is you need extra help?
Christa: Yes.
Principle Bump: Hmm, well I do want students to improve themselves. Very well, I reccomend you a tutor.
Principle Bump gives Christa a buisness card with a company hiring tutors and a number on it.
Principle Bump: Show this to your aunt and have get in contact with them. I hope this will help you improve.
Christa: Yes sir.
Principle Bump: You're dismissed.
Christa gets up and leaves the office.
Principle Bump: ( groans) This is definitely going to ruin my credit.
Later at lunch. Christa and Luz met up with Willow, Gus and Alex and sat together.
Alex: Wait, so that was you who caused that explosion in potions?
Christa: Yeah and because of my mistake, I got F on the class and Principle Bump isn't pleased with the mess. But he did recommend me a tutor.
Christa showed Luz the business card. It was company that assigned tutors and had a number to call for it.
Luz: Hmm, well hey this might help.
Christa: Yeah, but it doesn't change the fact I'm a loser.
Willow: So you messed up, it doesn't mean your a loser.
Christa: Yes it does.
Luz: Oye, no, no lo eres. You just need practice.
Gus: Yeah and if you told me my illusions were cool and useful, than I think you're a winner.
Christa: Thanks guys.
Amity: Hey guys.
Amity met up with the group and sat next to Luz as the two smiled and blushed a little seeing each other.
Amity: Hi Luz.
Luz: Hey Amity. How'd class go for you?
Amity: Went good, had a test today but I studied as usual. Think I aced it.
Luz: Great, that's my Ami.
Amity: ( chuckles) Oh stop. Hey Christa you okay?
Christa: If you call flunking potions and destroying the classroom okay than yeah.
Amity: That was you who caused that?
Christa: Yeah and Principle Bump said I should get a tutor if I want to improve. I'm just scared showing this to Matti.
Luz: Don't worry. Matti will understand and look, what if I went with you on this?
Christa: Really?
Luz: Sure. Any struggle you go through, I'm there to back you up hermana.
Christa: Thanks hermana.
Alex: Yeah I'm sure this will help. Definitely will keep you from destroying anymore classrooms.
Willow elbows his chest.
Alex: Ow, I was just kidding.
Later.
Luz and Christa were on their way to history class. The class was meant for all students who attended Hexside to learn some history, but students who chose this as their major would be taught more.
Soon the teacher arrived, Mr. Hirata. He was a tall man with a black suit, appeared to be in his late 60s to early 70s. He had an oval shaped head grey hair with a comb over hairstyle, thick eyebrows and appeared to be Japanese despite being a witch.
Mr Hirata: Ah, good afternoon students. Take your seats now and no more talking. Thank you. Now then, turn in your homework in the bin here.
Students got up and turned in their homework.
Mr Hirata: Excellent. Now open your text books to chapter 3.
He then wrote on the chalk board on today's lesson.
Mr Hirata: The formation of islands. As you all know, the Boiling Isles itself was formed by the decomposing corpse of the Titan. Now I'm not sure if any of you have traveled before, but you ever noticed other islands far from here. Those are from the body parts of titans. According to the History Coven's research, they speculate that there may have been more titans millions of years ago. But how did they all die you ask? From the looks of different body parts all around, we believe they all battled to the death for dominance and to become the alpha lead. It's something we called the Titan Wars.
He turned off the lights and used his magic to make a small slideshow of the islands in the demon realm and some on the Boiling Isles
Mr Hirata: We have reason to believe that because visiting these islands and seeing the wound of the limb, it looks like it was torn from the roots or bitten off, as well as scrapes and bite marks on some. The same with our Titan. Take note in the chest area, where the Emperor's castle resides, there appears to be a large scrape or hole, implying to be wound. We have reason to believe that our Titan fought in that war but was killed in battle. But was there a definitive winner? That is still unknown since the Titans are extinct. While it's theorized Titans were ageless beings, they could still be killed and it's likely whoever was the alpha soon met it's end from another Titan or died of it's wounds. But while there are some islands here and there, as of this day there is no known major archipelago like Boiling Isles or corpse of another Titan. At least not officially.
Christa: ( whispers) Luz I just realized something. Mr Hirata seems very knowledgeable about this stuff. What if he knows something about the Unknown Isles?
Luz: ( whispers) Hey maybe he does. History teachers know a lot of things. Although I hope. I remember back in my school I asked my teacher where the lost city of Atlantis was, but she said it was fake. I hope he doesn't say the same thing.
Mr Hirata: Christa Lightwing and Luz Noceda. Do you have something you wish to share with the class?
Christa: Uh, no sorry Mr Hirata.
Luz: We'll stop talking.
Mr Hirata: Alright then, so...
Luz: ( whispers) You could have asked him.
Christa: ( whispers) I'll ask him later. After class.
Later.
The last bell rang and class was dismissed.
Mr Hirata: Don't forget your homework, due at the end of the week.
The whole class left except for Luz and Christa who approached him.
Christa: Mr Hirata.
Mr Hirata: Ah, yes.
Luz: There was something we've been meaning to ask, but is there really no other archipelago here in the demon realm.
Mr Hirata: Well, as I said earlier not officially or there is no proof.
Christa: So then, do you know anything about the Unknown Isles?
Mr Hirata looked up at her hearing that.
Mr Hirata: Why yes that's, that's something not many people of heard of. Where did you hear that?
Christa: Oh um, some guy I met not long ago made mention of it but won't say anything else about it.
Mr Hirata: Well then from what I read and heard, it's another archipelago in the demon realm. Like here, it's supposed to be formed from another dead Titan and the witches their are supposed to be more advanced, however no one as ever gone there before and those that have discovered it are no longer alive to prove it.
Christa: Why has no one gone there before?
Mr Hirata: Because the only way to get there is through Maguma's fog, North from the Isles but no one as ever gotten through it. No matter what you do, you always end up where you started. Even if you go straight, you somehow end up where you started. You heard about Phillip Whittebane right?
Luz: Yes, I've been doing some research on him.
Mr Hirata: Legend has it that he found it somehow and he somehow found a specific route that lead him there. I don't remember the rest of the details and I'd show you more, but unfortunately I don't have my book of myths and legends anymore.
Christa: You don't?
Mr Hirata: No, you weren't the first students to ask me about these kind of things. I remember my top student several years ago asked me as well and because he was my best I gave the book to him. Oh young Archimedes Blackwell. Wonder how he's doing?
Luz: Wait hold on, Archimedes the historian? You were his teacher?
Christa: His last name is Blackwell?
Luz looked at her in confusion.
Christa: Uh and he has the book?
Mr Hirata: Ah, I take it you know him. You might want to see him. I'm sure he knows more.
Christa: We will.
Mr Hirata: Of course this is just a myth. You know that right?
Luz: Eh yeah we do. Anyway, later Mr Hirata.
Christa: Yeah and thank you.
Mr Hirata: Of course. Don't forget this weeks homework.
Later at the Owl House.
They made it home and Matti was there visiting and were told of their day.
Matti: You did what now?
Christa: It was accident. It's just been hard trying to follow.
Eda: Ha, I remember when I wrecked the potions track back in school. Remember guys?
Lilith: It's not something to be proud of Edalyn, your crazy experiment trashed the classroom.
Matti: Yeah and then it went and rampaged through the whole school.
Eda: What it was funny. That was until recently Principle Bump had me get rid of it inside he school vents. Can't believe it was still their the whole time.
Matti: Anyway can we focus back here?
Christa: Are you mad?
Matti sighs and places her hand on her head.
Matti: No I'm not mad, but I do want you to improve.
Eda: Hey I'm proud you finding your inner bad girl.
Lilith elbows Eda.
Eda: Ow. I'm just kidding Lily, geez.
Luz: Well Principle Bump said she should get a tutor and gave her a card.
Matti: Let me see it.
Christa hands her the business card.
Matti: Alright, I call and make a session for you and we'll see how it goes.
Luz: Oh is it fine if I went with her. I think I could use some extra help too.
Matti: Sure, I'll see what I can do.
Eda: So wait, you guys really think Archimedes has this book about the Unknown Isles.
Luz: That's what our history teacher said.
Eda: If that's true why hasen't he made mention of it yet? But I'll contact Archy and see if he knows. Don't worry Chrissy I'll keep you updated.
Later
Luz and Christa overheard Matti making a phone call for the tutor.
Matti: Uh huh. Yes she's my niece. How much for two? I get a discount for first session? Okay yeah that's good. Thank you bye, bye.
Matti hangs up and approaches the girls.
Matti: Alright girls, I made a session for the both of you. Your tutor will meet you at the library tomorrow at 4:00 for three hours.
Christa: Alright.
Luz: Awesome.
Matti: Yes when you get there and be on the look out for someone named Alice Blight.
Christa: Okay we'll...
But then Christa and Luz's cheerful looks turned into frightened ones.
Christa: Wait, did you say Blight?
Matti: Uh yes that's what they said who's available now.
Luz: Yeah, but as in Amity's family name Blight?
Matti: I believe so. I mean it's not a common last name.
The two of them looked at each other scared.
Christa: You know what, maybe we should call it off.
Matti: Hey, hey come on. Don't be like that. I already made the session.
Christa: But Aunt Matti we're gonna be tutored by a Blight. Have you seen what they're like?
Luz: I was used as a guinea pig for their presentation. I almost died!
Matti: Okay I understand that. Yes I will admit, I'm not too fond of Odalia and Alador because of how snobbish they are, but aren't you friends with their kids? They're not so bad. Luz you told me you and that Amity girl are dating.
Luz: Well, I mean yeah. Amity is just cool and she only acted mean before because of her parents.
Christa: And Edric and Emira are fun to hang out with. ( blushes) Especially Edric.
Matti: Okay so maybe this one won't be so bad. Just promise me to behave yourselves and be respectful. But if she does give you trouble, you let me know okay?
Luz and Christa: ( sighs) Yes Aunt Matti.
Matti: Good.
Matti leaned down and hugged them both.
Matti: I gotta go now, but she sure to let me know how it goes.
Matti leaves the house, leaving the two of them alone but still looked nervous.
The next day.
The two of them arrived at the front of the Bonesborough Library.
Luz: Well, this is it.
Christa: I don't think I can do this.
Luz: Come on Christa. Just remember what Aunt Matti said.
Christa: Yeah I know. So where are we supposed to meet her?
That's when they heard a roar ( stock Gomora roar). They looked up and saw a black dragon like creature flying down near them. It was about the size of a rhinosaurus and had the wings of an eagle, feet of a tiger and the head had facial features of a wolf. Getting off the creature was a woman about 5'11 and in her mid 40s. She wore a simple purple dress with black boots. Her skin was a golden tan and eyes were gold. She had purple lipstick and cresent moon earings. She had long lavender hair like Amity except it was more darker and natural and went down to her shoulders. She got off the dragon, holding a bag and briefcase and fed it a treat and pet it's head.
Alice: Thank you Strinax. Go on now, I'll call you when it's time to go.
Strinax responds with a soft growl and flies off
Luz and Christa: Whoa...
Alice: Hi there, are you Luz Noceda and Christa Lightwing?
Christa: Yes we are.
Alice: It's nice to meet you. My name is Alice Jinx Blight and I will be your tutor. Follow me to our study room.
The two while still nervous followed her to another room in a library. It was a small lab which had a long desk for them to sit around and a chalk board and the two took a seat.
Alice: Alright then, now as I was informed we'll be going over potions. Though technically I'm part of the Abomination coven, but as tutor and part time substitue teacher I am skilled with some other tracks under certain limits due to our law. Now then let's begin, gather the equipment necessary for the lesson.
Luz and Christa did as she said.
Alice: Alright then lets begin. We'll start with making a healing brew.
Alice wrote down the instructions on the board with what ingredients and amounts. Luz and Christa followed it. It was a simple brew that anyone can get. Alice monitored them to make sure they got it right, which they did.
Alice: Alright next we'll make an energizer potion to restore stamina. Now, you'll be using these herbs to do so.
Alice showed them the herbs needed for this. Both of them looked very similar as they were green with white stripes.
Alice: Okay now can you tell me what these are?
Luz raised her hand.
Luz: Uh bara leaves?
Alice: You're half right. Some of these are bara leaves, some of them are ogo leaves. They look similar but there is a difference. Look at the tip of the leaves. Bara leaves have a green tip while ogo has a white tip They're very easy to mix up and over look. Follow the instruction on the board exactly.
Luz and Christa did as she said. But during the mixture, Christa was about to add the wrong amount of ogo leaves to the mixture.
Alice: Christa stop what you're doing.
Christa's eyes widened and let out a small gasp as she saw Alice coming towards her. Was she about to flip out that she was doing it wrong and berate her.
Alice: Look at the leaves you have.
Christa looked and saw she had two bara leaves and one ogo leaf.
Alice: I saw you already add the ogo leaves and were about to put one more. Had you done that, it would have made the potion too unstable.
Christa: I'm so sorry. Please forgive me.
Alice: Whoa easy. It's alright, just pay more attention next time okay.
Christa's scared look faded away. She got off easy. She thought she was going to scream at her.
Christa: Yeah, okay.
Alice: And Luz...
Now Luz looked nervous as she was in the middle pestling the herbs. Alice took a look at her work.
Alice: Make sure it's fully grounded up.
Luz: Oh, yes ma'me.
The two of them were kinda surprised of Alice. They thought she'd be scary or mean but was shown to be calm and kinda nice.
A few hours later.
The three of them exited the lab.
Alice: That'll be it for today. Good job you two.
Christa: Thank you Ms Blight.
Luz: Yeah, you know we won't lie, we thought you'd be uh...
Alice: What scary?
Luz: I wasn't gonna say that! I was gonna say uh...er intense.
Alice: Hmph, I guess you've heard of the Blight's here. You can relax, I'm nothing like Odalia or Alador. Especially Odalia. Don't get me started on her.
Christa: So you're related to them.
Alice: I'm Alador's big sister.
Luz: So then you are Amity's aunt.
Alice: You know my niece?
That's when they heard Amity saying bye to the kids she was reading to.
Kids: Bye Amity. Thank you.
Amity: You all be safe. Be good and see you tomorrow.
Alice: Amity?
Amity turned and saw them and smiled.
Amity: Aunt Alice.
Amity ran up and hugged her and Alice kneeled down hugging her.
Alice: Amity I barely recognized you.
Amity: Is it because of my hair?
Alice: ( chuckles) You look nice. You trying to copy someone?
Amity: Let's just say a special someone.
Luz and Christa then notice now how Amity's hair color is similar to her Aunt's and she must have dyed it to look like hers.
Amity: Luz, Christa you didn't tell me Aunt Alice was going to tutor you.
Alice: Oh so these are friends of yours.
Amity: Yes they are and Luz is actually my girlfriend.
Alice: Is she really?
Luz: Just recently but yeah I am.
Alice: ( serious look) I hope you're treating her well. Cause if you don't, I will curse you.
Luz then had a scared look on her face. But Alice's serious look broke into a smile and laughed a little.
Alice: I'm kidding. Lighten up.
Luz: Oh, ha ha. Very funny.
Alice: Anyway I hope to see you two again soon.
Christa: Thank you Ms Blight. You were very helpful.
Luz: And cool. I'll see you tomorrow at school Amity.
Luz placed a kiss on Amity's cheek, making her blush as she watched Luz and Christa.
Alice: Amity are you free? I'd like to catch up with you.
Amity: My shift ends in 15. I will soon.
Alice: I'll wait for you. Meet me outside.
Later.
Alice and Amity were sitting together at a bench with some ice cream.
Amity: Thank you again for the ice cream Aunt Alice.
Alice: Oh don't mention it Amity. So it's been months since I last saw you. How have you been?
Amity: Well, things have been changing. Like a lot.
Alice: Well I can tell you've changed. For better I say. Is it because of Luz?
Amity: Well yeah. Things changed ever I met her. She helped me get out of a bad crowd, help me be friends with Willow again and just made me a better person.
Alice: Oh so you are friends with Willow again, I remember the times you had with her. You two used to do so much together.
Amity: Yeah, well I'm trying to make up for lost time.
Alice: So how's Edric and Emira?
Amity: They're doing fine. Been getting along better with them than before. Actually funny thing, Ed was going on a date once, but he sent a poem to his date's mom by accident.
Alice: ( chuckles) Yes that sounds like Edric.
Amity: Oh here's one new thing. I recently got a new palisman. Her name's Ghost.
Alice: Wow, that is a major achievement. Did you adopt her from the Bat Queen?
Amity: Well, no. My parents paid big for some palistrom wood since they preferred I'd have a fresh and new palisman rather than an old beat up one.
Alice's expression turned into a serious one as she gazed at her neice.
Alice: I see. Tell me, are you doing okay at home right now?
Amity: I am.
Alice: Are you sure? I know how your parents are.
Amity: I am, really. Okay they did get my friends expelled once as a lesson to have me focus more on school.
Alice: ( groans) Of course they'd do that. ( mumbles) Odalia what's wrong with you? And you too Alador?
Amity: But Luz, Christa and I were able to get everyone back in and I'm not letting them harass my friends or control me again.
Alice: ( sighs) I believe you. You are a strong girl after all. But listen if they do hurt you, you tell me. Because I will do something and you know I'm here for you whenever. You're my favorite niece after all. Oh and don't tell Emira I said that.
Amity: I won't. Thank you Aunt Alice.
Alice: Of course, come here.
Alice pulled Amity into a hug. Amity hugged her Aunt tight. She never hugged her mom before, but hugged Alice like she was her mom. Back home she never really felt comfortable or safe, but out here with her she did and cherished the moment.

Author's Note: That's it for this chapter. Sorry it took a bit long, but was again just dealing with work a lot and also just didn't know how to tell the story on this one and a did a lot of thinking as this was an attempt to add more of my own lore. Also my best guess was that Amtiy's palisman Ghost was carved since people have pointed out she doesn't appear to have any cracks or damage since the show didn't explain where she came from. But I'm excited for the next chapter and you probably know what it is. I want to thank Lady Shadow92 for help on this and for Amity's Aunt, Alice Jinx Blight who will return.
