Second Chance
Prologue
It was a quiet night. The star lit up in the sky, the new moon shone on the shadows of the two tightly embraced lovers. Seldom, a cool breeze would pass by their faces; the fireflies would fly around them. Inuyasha held Kagome tightly to himself as she sneezed.
"Inuyasha? Can I ask you something?" it was a soft voice, like music, but with a tinge of fear.
"What?"
"Do you believe in red snow?"
"Stupid, there is no such thing as red now." Inuyasha said, not minding throwing insults everywhere.
"But…what if there really is?"
Inuyasha fell in silence. Really, he did not know the answer. He had not seen red snow falling with his own eyes, but he had heard rumors about it: when it last fell was thousands of years ago, and how a majority of demons died. For one thing though, he did not like red snow, because he knew the deaths of the demons are connected with it, and he, Inuyasha, did not want to die.
Remembering the past, Inuyasha tries to laugh at his own ignorance, but he cannot. He is experiencing with red snow and he knows he was right; he does not like it. He will never like it. It is even more frightening than he thought it was.
Kagome lies in Inuyasha's arms. Her face is as pale as death itself and blood flows down from her mouth, staining her purple lips. A wound is cut deep on Kagome's left wrist, which makes her once white uniform blood red.
The sky is getting dark, red clouds are coming together. RED clouds.
"Haha, Inuyasha you can never beat me! Die!" with Naraku's evil laugh, his roots strike down straight towards Inuyasha and Kagome.
"Shit!" Inuyasha curses under his breaths, and jumps out of the way just in time. He looks down at the pale Kagome, and makes a choice. He flees into an empty space nearby with Naraku still laughing at him from behind.
After Inuyasha finds a safe place, he sets Kagome down. He looks at her tear-filled face, not knowing if it is from the pain of losing too much blood, or the fear of losing her life.
"Please, Kagome, don't die on me."
Kagome's lips move, which gives Inuyasha some hope that she might actually live through this.
"Inuyasha…I'm sorry." She manages to choke all the words out, but painfully.
"Stupid, sorry for what? You can live through this."
Kagome laughs lightly. Even now he still can't stop insulting her.
The red clouds are beginning to condense; the sky is getting darker and redder by every second.
"Red snow…" Inuyasha mutters, thoughtfully, regretfully.
"My time is up…Inuyasha…Please take care of…Shippo and the others…"
"No, Kagome, you can stop this, you don't have to die, you are the blood angel."
She laughs lightly again, at his ignorance.
"No, this…is the only way…of stopping Naraku…and bring peace…"
"At the price of sacrificing your own life? No, I can't let you do that!"
"Inuyasha…I love you…remember…"
She tries to raise her hand to Inuyasha's face, to feel the warmth of a living person again, to once more touch the person she loved for all those years.
But her hand falls before she can make contact. Her eyes close peacefully, and her body falls limp.
Red snow is falling.
Inuyasha feels the snowflakes melt down on his back, his hair. From that moment, he knows, that it is over. Over for Naraku, and…Kagome.
Inuyasha watches helplessly as the woman he loves leaves him forever. Once again, he feels the unbearable pain of losing a loved one. He watches Naraku dissipates into thin air from afar. Inuyasha does not feel as triumph and victorious as he thought he would be after Naraku is dead, only for one reason…
Kagome is dead.
