Chapter 48
Sam refused to go to the hospital for she felt fine after regaining consciousness. She simply figured it would be a waste of time for whatever technology assaulted her would not leave much of a trace and thus any test would be useless.
Older Caitlin had left the show that evening and returned to Jo and Saint John's home to house sit for the couple while the rest remained in the camper for the remainder of the show.
The internet was filled with video recordings of the orbs harassing Airwolf at the show and it went viral as a UFO sighting. Older Ralph and Tony were invited to stay in the camper and did so to help assess Sam's health and keep an eye on her as well. No one had a good explanation for the sighting. Not even KITT and Ziggy could come up with a good theory.
Dr. Sam Beckett arrived with his wife, Donna that evening to check Sam over as she refused medical care otherwise. He stepped into the camper wearing jeans and a light blue flannel shirt, boots and carrying a doctor's bag. Donna stepped in after. She wore a white blouse and blue slacks with boots as the air show was in the middle of a field.
Sam Beckett greeted, "Hey everyone." His eyes settled on Sam Hawke who sat at the table nursing a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll. He came right to her, "You okay?" he looked directly at her face for any signs of a medical issue.
She smiled, "I'm alright. You didn't have run out to see me."
"Yes I did." he countered. "My wife and I are both medical doctors and since you refused to go to the hospital you get us instead." He looked to the crowd, "Who saw what happened?"
Jo stated, "I did! She was in the booth with me and older Cait when those orbs started buzzing Airwolf."
Donna mentioned, "Sam and I saw that on the internet. It's gone viral."
Jo continued, "I was watching those things swarming Airwolf. I then looked over to Sam and she was sitting motionless with one of the orbs right in front of her face. It's like she was in some kind of trance. I couldn't wake her. She didn't even blink. Older Cait tried to swat it away from her and it went right into her head. She still didn't move. Her nose started to bleed and then a few seconds later it left her, straight up out of the top of her head. It went right through the canopy of the booth. Tony looked at the canopy. There is no damage at all. Then after it left, Sam started coming around."
Dr. Beckett stated, "I would like to run some test on you, Dr. Hawke. How about a CAT scan?"
She shook her head, "Nope. It would be useless. It won't pick anything up. That orb left no damage to the canopy. It did something to me but it didn't damage me." She held up her hands and wiggled her fingers, "I still have motor control, I can walk and talk. I'm not having a stroke. Nothing will show up."
He agreed, "Nothing will probably show up but it would make of us feel better knowing there is no damage. You were assaulted by unknown entity. Ziggy has nothing."
She refused and shook her head, "I'm fine. I don't need a CAT scan."
Donna suggested, "We should get her to a neurologist."
Tony spoke up, "Call in Rhonda Black. She's a neurologist and she knows all about this. She contacted me the other night. She now remembers Mr. H and the red suit."
Sam Beckett agreed, "Let's call Dr. Blake."
String asked, "Is Sam stable for now though?"
Dr. Beckett took a few minutes and gave a quick exam and looked her over, "She appears stable. Of course it would be helpful if she cooperated." He then looked to Sam Hawke displeased.
She rolled her eyes, "I don't like being poked and prodded. I'm not an experiment."
Caitlin smoothed, "None of us do. We're just worried about you."
"I'm staying the night in a camper with all you guys. I'm sure if I get sick someone will know. It's not like there is a lot of privacy in here." she motioned around her for the area was crowded.
String spoke to Tony, "Have Rhonda meet us at the hangar tomorrow. Maybe she can talk some sense into my stubborn niece."
She looked him dead in the eye and declared, "Pot, kettle…black." She hinted to his own stubbornness.
He agreed, "I know! It's a Hawke thing."
Hangar
Rhonda Blake arrived at the old hangar driving a white Mercedes Benz sedan. She emerged from the vehicle sporting a set of blue scrubs. She reached into the car and retrieved her white lab coat and a doctor's bag. Her hair was places neatly up in a bun and she looked rather young for her age with makeup applied neatly. She then made her way to the side door of the closed hangar and rang the bell.
The door opened to a face she not seen in a long time, her old teacher, Ralph Hinkley. He was older, with white hair and bit heavier but she recognized him immediately. "Mr. H." she grinned.
He grinned back, "Rhonda!"
She wrapped her arms around him and held him tight. She whispered, "Thank you for believing me when I was a kid."
He returned the embrace, "You were always a smart kid." He urged, "Come in. Got some friends here who want to see you."
Rhonda followed older Ralph into the hangar. She spied Tony first and gave him a warm hug.
"It's good to see you again, Tony." she told him.
"Good to see you too." he assured her.
Rhonda spied Airwolf right behind Tony. She mentioned, "Saw that UFO encounter last night. It went viral. Everyone was watching it in the E.R.."
"It buzzed Airwolf pretty good." Tony agreed.
Rhonda then looked at the audience. She found an older man with gray hair coming closer, eager to greet her.
Dr. Sam Beckett reached Rhonda and greeted, "Dr. Blake. Remember me?"
She grinned wide, "How could I ever forget that night in the hangar when everyone could see you. So glad you got back home, Dr. Beckett." She gave him a warm embrace. Her blue eyes then landed on Samantha Hawke next who was right behind Dr. Beckett. Behind her was String, Caitlin and Dom watching over her much like protective parents.
Rhonda shook her head as a grin crept across her face upon seeing the young scientist again. "I can't believe how silly I acted when I was in high school and you came to our class." She reached out and wrapped her arms around the young woman and held her tight for a minute.
Samantha returned the embrace, "Thanks for coming to see me. I know you are busy."
"Never too busy to see you, Sam." she assured. She asked, "Exactly what happened?"
"I guess one of those orbs that was buzzing Airwolf went into my head and I was not responding for a while." she explained releasing her friend.
Rhonda asked, "Have you had a CAT scan yet?"
Dr. Beckett stated, "She refused. She's not very cooperative."
Rhonda agreed, "I find most scientist and doctors make very poor patients." She asked her friend, "Would be willing to come to my office and let me run some basic test? No hospital. Just an office setting."
"I'll do that." she agreed.
"Any blood work been done?" Rhonda asked.
Dr. Beckett shook his head, "She won't let anyone touch her."
"That's figures." she smirked at her patient. "I'll have some blood work done at the office."
"I hate needles." Dr. Hawke miffed.
Rhonda agreed, "Don't we all?"
"I got an engine to tend too." Sam Hawke reached for an excuse to get out of the medial testing.
Dr. Beckett assured, "I can watch it while you are gone."
String added, "And we got KITT and Ziggy watching it."
Caitlin stated, "I know you feel fine but we would feel better knowing you are okay."
Dom added, "Just go and get checked out, kid."
"Fine!" she rolled her head back annoyed.
Rhonda stated, "I can drive you in my car."
Sam Hawke looked at the luxury car, "The Beamer?"
"I know you like cars." she nodded.
"Okay." she agreed for she would like a ride in the expensive car.
String figured, "One of us should go with them. For security and if one of those things come back." He glanced about to his friends and brother.
Sinjin figured, "I'm her father. I'm going with them."
Rhonda agreed, "Sounds good."
Short Time Later
Rhonda drove the car with Sam sitting in the passenger's seat and her father in the back seat. Sam stated, "Tony said you found a way to restore your memory of the red suit. How did you do that?"
"Frequency wave." she replied. "I knew about the red suit and Mr. H. but I just couldn't remember it. I found that if I listened to the music that was popular when I was in high school I could remember a little of it. Not all but enough to know, I was missing the memory. I figured it must have been the music jogging the memory. But I just could not remember it all. Music helps heal the brain along with sleep patterns. So, I took the music we listened to in school and I began to play it at night as I slept. I began to recall a bit more. Slowly, over time and many nights of sleeping with music going it managed to restore the memory of the red suit. I figure E.T. used a mass application of a frequency that is fine tuned to target certain memories to subdue that memory and the radio, the popular songs in combination with sleep and knowing about it was able to counter the affect of that frequency. I'm working on isolating that frequency now. I think they are still applying it to keep the population subdue."
Sam had to agree, "That's plausible."
Sinjin asked, "You think they could be blocking out other memories too? More than just the red suit and Ralph?"
Rhonda shrugged, "I suppose that is possible too."
They soon pulled into a small office building. Rhonda parked the car near the rear entrance. "My office is normally closed on Sundays so we got the whole place to ourselves."
Sinjin stated, "We need to keep low key so that's a good thing, Dr. Blake."
Sam figured she would ask, "You married, Rhonda?"
She nodded, "I am! To a wonderful man I met in med school. His name is Paul." She then squinted and looked over to Sam's pondering face, "What are you planning to do?"
"I was going to tell younger you about him." she confessed.
Rhonda shook her head and laughed, "Anyone else in your shoes would be using that wormhole to get rich. You…Miss Match Maker over here…"
Sam asked, "If you had a choice between all the money you could ever want or your husband, which would you choose?"
"My husband." she stated flatly.
Sam asked, "So money isn't everything then?"
She rolled her eyes, "Come on! We only got today to run these test." She opened the car door and then led Sinjin and Sam into the medical building.
