Chapter Five: Sleepovers Turn Into Love (REDUX)
The walk to Midoriya's house was quite awkward, the two remained in an awkward silence nearly the whole way to him and his mother's apartment complex. This was mainly due to the fact that Jirou realized she had no clothes to sleep in, which didn't leave her with any options other than borrowing some clothes.
"H-Hey, what am I going to do for clothes? I d-don't have anything to wear to sleep." She finally questioned as the duo reached the apartment complex. Jirou was becoming increasingly anxious about this whole thing, and understandably so since she was going to meet Midoriya's mom for the first time.
The setting for this meeting really wasn't ideal, she would probably be judged heavily is what she assumed. Some random girl showing up with your son and asking to stay the night? What kind of romcom movie shit was this?
Izuku pondered the question a bit, and realized he had one of two choices. And he definitely WAS NOT going to have her wear his mother's old clothes. His face reddened with the thought, but he definitely had a few spare shirts that she could wear. They'd definitely be too big on her, however.
"I-I'll have to lend you some clothes for y-you to sleep in." He stated, as they started their walk up the stairs of the complex. That intrigued Jirou, imagining wearing one of Midoriya's "shirt" shirts was pretty funny. She silently hoped she could get some hint as to where he bought all of them.
"Wh-What are you laughing at?" Midoriya questioned. How could she be laughing about this? She was gonna wear some of his clothes, isn't that at least a little weird? He definitely expected some sort of other reaction, getting laughed at definitely seemed a bit odd.
"Nothing." She started, "Just imagining you giving me one of those weird shirts that you own an abundance of. Seriously, where do you get them?" She teased, poking his side and causing him to jump in surprise.
'Oh no…' He froze. Jirou now held a very dangerous piece of information in her hands, and Midoriya feared with his life what she would do with it. She had just found one of his greatest secrets.
"You're ticklish?" She questioned, an evil grin present on her face. This was too good! THE Izuku Midoriya was ticklish. Jirou was gonna have a field day with that information, hell she might even have to use that against him in the future.
"WELL WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT WE'RE HERE!" He screamed, trying to dodge the question. He pulled out his key and swiftly opened the door, hoping to get away from the question. As the greenette opened the front door, a short green haired woman stepped out from the kitchen. She truly resembled Midoriya in nearly every way.
"Izuku Midoriya! Do you have any idea how late it is-" She questions before spotting the purple haired girl standing behind the boy, and her eyes widen significantly. "Izuku, is this the girl you were with?" She questioned.
Izuku nods, and turns to let his mother get a view of Jirou. She was definitely close to Inko in height, maybe even an inch or two taller, but she was… Cute. She was a petite girl, but she seemed nice. Definitely her son's type upon closer inspection.
"M-Mom, this is Kyouka Jirou. Her parents had left without telling her and she had nowhere to g-go for the night. C-Could she stay with us?" He asked, a tad nervous that his mother might freak out over having a girl stay the night.
Jirou waved, then bowed to the woman. "I-I would be very grateful if you could help me out, ."
"W-Well of course you can stay! And please, just call me Inko! No need to be so formal, dear." She said, a smile present on her face. Jirou visibly sighed in relief, thankful that the woman didn't outright reject the idea. "Though you'll have to stay in Izuku's room, no naughty business, okay? I don't need grandkids. Yet." She teased.
Both teens' faces erupted as Inko Midoriya laughed at their expressions. These two were going to be great company together, she could tell. Her son should really keep her around, she'd be a great addition to the family.
"M-M-M-MOM! I-I TOLD YOU IT W-WASN'T LIKE THAT!" Izuku stuttered out, as Jirou nearly fainted at the idea of them doing whatever it was his mother was implying. Oh, but it's a mother's job to embarrass her son, no?
Midoriya's mom could really be something else when she wanted to be. Though her husband was way worse when it came to embarrassing people, almost as if it were second nature.
After that fiasco Jirou joined the Midoriya's for dinner, and learned all about Izuku's juicy secrets from his mother. This was probably one of the worst days for Izuku as baby pictures with him in his All Might onesie were shown despite his protest.
"You guys are chaotic together." He complained to the two women. Jirou only laughed even harder, as his mother had to suppress a chuckle. This just had to be the way Jirou met his mother.
"Well Jirou, why don't you hop in the shower. I think he's had enough for now. I'll have Izuku set out some clothes for you, while I clean up dinner." Inko said, pointing to the door to the bathroom. Jirou nodded and got up, heading for the door. She heard Inko say something to the greenette warranting a quiet, "Mom!" from Izuku. She giggled and headed into the bathroom.
"M-Me and Jirou aren't like that mom. We're just friends." He expressed to his mother. She had started teasing him about dating Jirou and in all honesty he was getting fed up with hearing it. His face was red enough as is, plus she wouldn't even want to date someone like him… Someone who used to just be a worthless nobody.
"Oh you can't tell me you haven't thought about it! I'm your mom, I have to know these things. Besides she's a cute one, I think you two would be good together." She encouraged., nudging her son with her elbow playfully.
She wasn't exactly wrong either, Izuku had thought about the possibility of them getting together but there could be no way that she would actually want to date him. He's some plain-looking hero nerd, what girl would be attracted to that? Plus… She's seen what he had started out as. She's seen where he had come from in comparison to where he is now.
He shook his head at his mother, deciding to get Jirou that spare change of clothes just to get away from it. He loved his mom, quite a lot actually, but right now he felt the need to step away. He'd handle things at his own pace if he really wanted to be with Jirou, and he'd hope his mother would respect that.
Naturally Inko realizes that she doesn't need to push the boy, he'll grow as he progresses through life. Maybe he'll even make it into U.A. after taking the entrance exam, which he expressed a lot of determination to take.
'That son of mine…' She'd think to herself, continuing to do the dishes. She sighed in mindfulness; he really was growing up.
"Jirou! I've brought you some clothes-" He'd start, before silencing himself with the sight before him. His eyes widened in shock and his red face was only matched with the blood dripping out of his nose.
There in all her toweled glory was Kyouka Jirou herself. She had her back turned to Midoriya, and unfortunately the towel was a bit too small which left Midoriya with a view of her upper thigh, and part of her ass.
When Jirou heard his voice, she quickly swiveled on her heel and covered herself to the best of her ability, screaming loud enough to be heard all across Japan.
"MIDORIYA GET OUT!" She shouted as she threw countless items at the boy, successfully nailing him right in the eye. He quickly rushed out of the bathroom, leaving the clothes he had brought for her before being pelted with the heavier items found in the bathroom. The image of Jirou was burned into his memory, and Jirou felt nothing but embarrassment and shame.
Embarrassment because he saw her in one of her most vulnerable states, and shame because it was in his home with his mother present! Nevermind her fearing what he thought, just what would his mother think if she found out that Jirou had just been seen naked by her son of all people.
Jirou was really starting to feel insecure because he just saw her body in such an exposed state, what if he was grossed out and thought she was unnatractive? What if he didn't want to see her anymore after this, but most importantly how could she face him now!? How could she face him as his friend?
"God dammit Midoriya, why couldn't you have knocked…" She mumbled to herself. Seriously what was this, some kind of cliche? The universe just had to be so cruel! Oh, but poor Midoriya wasn't doing any better.
"S-Sorry Jirou, I-I was just trying to b-bring you some clothes and- I-I didn't s-see anything I-I swear!" He said, on the other side of the bathroom door. He had felt horrible after that, he knew better than to just burst into the bathroom like that, but perhaps it was the fact that he was at home that he was so comfortable just throwing open the door like that.
Izuku Midoriya was no pervert, but seeing the girl he was hardcore crushing on like that? His mind would never let him forget an image like that, it didn't help that he would probably pitch a tent which he would have to hide for the remainder of the night. Being realistic, he knew that it'd replay in his mind for the rest of the night, perhaps even longer.
Jirou just put her new pair of clothes on after drying off and put her old ones in the wash. She sighed and looked at herself in the mirror. She needed to prepare herself to go out there and face him, she couldn't hide in there forever.
'You have to come out of here, and act like everything's fine. You can't let an incident like that ruin you, Kyouka.' She thought, hyping herself up to leave the bathroom.
As she exited the bathroom she saw a lack of Inko, and Midoriya sitting stiffly on the couch, fidgeting occasionally. So he was just as embarrassed as she was. Of course he'd be just as embarrassed as she was, why did she think he would judge her?
That was probably the only time he'd ever seen anyone from the opposite sex like that, granted she didn't have much experience about all of that either., but it was Midoriya. He's just a flustered mess now.
She stared at the boy, thinking how cute he looked sitting there all shaken up. They needed an ice breaker, and teasing him was probably her best bet.
"You okay? You're looking kind of stiff." She spoke, startling the boy as she gently poked his side. He slowly turned to her, noticing her in his "tuxedo" shirt… She looked cute. Though maybe it was the sight of her without it that was making him think so.
"S-Sorry about earlier…" He said, turning away. There's no way he could look at her right now with that image still in his mind. The guilt that he felt couldn't truly go away, especially with her sitting in front of him like that with her bare legs sitting right there… Looking so damn nice.
"I-It's fine, just forget about it." She said, plopping down next to Midoriya. "Besides, seeing you fumble around while trying to leave was pretty funny." Chuckling, she turned to see him pouting with his face still as red as before.
"Y-You were throwing stuff at me, what was I supposed to do?" He said, turning to face her with a bit of an annoyed look. It was then that she noticed the red mark around his eye from the shampoo bottle she hit him with. "You totally nailed me in the eye! That hurt!" He exclaimed, half annoyed and half relieved things weren't so awkward.
"Well you should've knocked, idiot! It's entirely your fault." She said, crossing her arms and pouting playfully. The two looked at each other and just laughed, they laughed at this awkward situation they put themselves into and were more than content with just laughing it off instead of letting it ruin the atmosphere between them.
Although they are still worried about one another to some extent, it's overshadowed by the fact that they are still here as friends and not much has changed. They would get past this and enjoy their night together to the fullest… Probably.
"S-So," Midoriya starts, after their laughing fit, "Y-You wanna watch a movie? I-I've got a few that I think you might like if you wanna look at what we have?" Midoriya noticed that Jirou perked up at the mention of a movie.
"Oh, yeah! Can I make a suggestion? It's from the pre-quirk era so I think you'll like it." She mentioned rushing over to the Midoriya's movie collection before pulling out a certain movie. Midoriya nods, not knowing what he was gonna be in for.
Unfortunately for Midoriya, Jirou had chosen a horror movie. Now it's not unfortunate because Midoriya doesn't get scared by silly horror movies, but Jirou however, was clinging onto the boy for dear life. And that was scarier than any special effects could muster. How could she cling onto him like this when his heart was beating out of his chest?
Unluckily for Izuku his mother had seemingly fallen asleep, and he had to sit there, let Jirou cling onto him, and not scream due to embarrassment. Life really was cruel wasn't it? Though in another light this could be seen as a blessing in disguise.
"U-Um, J-Jirou? Y-You okay?" He asked, as her face was hidden in his shoulder. She looked up at him and glared, though she couldn't stop the shaky grip she had on a balled up portion of his shirt.
"I-I'm fine! J-Just not good with scary movies. I like them, but they can be a bit…" She trailed off, looking away from the movie for a moment before getting invested in it once again, only to nearly be scared once more.
Midoriya nodded in understanding, truth be told the movies he had seen were made from people with special quirks, but things like this were purely just from people naturally looking creepy. That was pretty scary by itself, though there would always be special effects that made these worse than they actually were.
"Y-Yeah, I understand." He said, blushing as he thought of an idea to help the girl get through this a little better. Maybe it could provide the girl some comfort. Izuku lifted his arm, and before she could question why he was taking away her hiding spot, he wrapped his arm around her, embracing her so that she could hide a tad more comfortably and be able to get closer to him if need be.
'WHAT AM I DOING!?' He screamed internally. Truthfully he wanted to comfort her as some kind of heroic act, but this could totally be taken wrong as something else! She might be thinking he's trying to make a move on her… But she could actually want that.
'WHAT IS HE DOING!?' Jirou questioned as her face became tinted with red. Her face, which used to be hiding on his shoulder, was now nestled on his chest. She wondered if this was God's way of blessing her, or making her suffer. Though listening to his heartbeat was oddly calming in a way, despite how nervous she could tell he was.
She couldn't help but breathe in whatever cologne he was wearing, she noted that he smelled like maple syrup? She'd have to figure out what he was using.
She realizes that she was literally sitting here sniffing him, and decided to stop before he noticed. Instead she continued to listen to his heartbeat, it seemed to be going a mile a minute and she couldn't help but giggle at how nervous he was at his own actions.
'It isn't too bad being held by him…' She noted. 'Maybe I'll just enjoy this while I can, he won't try anything.' She smiled, and while it was against her better judgement, she nestled closer to the boy, sighing in relief as she began to space out to the rhythm of the greenettes heart.
She felt him stiffen, and he looked down to see her staring blankly at the tv, he wasn't even sure if she was watching it as a pretty scary part of the movie was playing, but she was smiling. Maybe she appreciated what he was doing for her… He smiled and relaxed, this was really nice.
The duo had ended up sitting together like that for the remainder of the movie, and as it came to its end, Izuku checked on Jirou and noticed her sleeping soundly. Seems that lying on the cinnamon roll had calmed her enough to put her into a gentle slumber.
Smiling, he picked her up as gently as he could and took her to his room, laying her on the bed and tucking her in so that she could be cozy. He'd be taking the couch tonight seeing as he wouldn't want her to be uncomfortable.
Jirou had actually woken up when Midoriya picked her up, but she didn't really know what to say. When he placed her down she realized he was gonna leave her there in his room, and she knew she needed to say something. Anything to get him to stay.
"M-Midoriya?" She called, barely above a whisper. She watched as he froze right before he reached the doorknob and turned to her. "Thank you…"
"O-Oh? Did I wake you up? I'm sorry." He said gently, walking back over to her, and sitting beside her on the edge of his bed. Jirou would sit up to be eye-level with him. "B-But why are you thanking me?"
Jirou didn't really know why she thanked him, but she looked back on the events of today and realized how nice he had been, and how he had saved her. His hospitality mixed with his generosity… He really was just an all around nice guy, and she couldn't help but thank him for doing what he sees as the bare minimum to friendship.
Izuku himself had considered doing these acts only as the bare minimum to being friends with someone, while others would only ever see friendship as a tool for their own benefit. But not him, no, he would go above and beyond for his friends. It was just… In his nature.
"No it's fine, just… Thanks for today. For saving me, and helping me out. But I feel bad that you're giving up your bed for me." She mumbled, looking down as a light blush dusted her cheeks. Izuku would give a small smile and shrug nonchalantly.
"You don't have to thank me. I'm just happy to help. Like I said, I'm glad we're friends. I wanna make sure you're happy, a-and truthfully... I-I don't want you to regret being my friend. I don't want you to end up like the others." Midoriya admitted, looking away in shame as he took a deep breath. Admitting that was definitely tougher than he thought it would be as thoughts of certain friends from back in the day had begun to haunt him.
He always had a bit of insecurity when it came to actually having a friend again. He felt like he had to be a bit careful because the fear of Jirou regretting their friendship made him fearful. He didn't want to lose her, nor did he want to lose that feeling of friendship ever again. He was afraid because the feeling of abandonment was always worse than the physical pain of being bullied for years.
Jirou looked at him, and frowned. She could tell exactly who he was talking about when he said "The others". "There's no way I would regret it. You've quickly become one of my favorite people, and there's no way in the world that I'd give that up." She said, placing a hand over his own.
Midoriya looked to her hand, and lifted her hand up with his own. He rubbed his thumb on the back of her hand and looked her in the eyes. It seemed like his emerald orbs were glistening in the moonlight. She had breathed life back into him once again… She truly was a great friend.
"You're one of my favorite people too… Probably more than you know." He said, causing Jirou's face to heat up. What exactly could he have meant by that? Neither of them knew, all Izuku knew was that he was speaking on impulse now. Overthinking like he usually did just… Didn't happen when they were alone like this.
He was seriously too sweet, and Jirou made a mental note to start calling him something relating to a honeydew. Or maybe just some sort of sweet green thing..? She'd have to work on the teasing nicknames.
"More than your mom?" She asked, jokingly. He laughed and shook his head. There was no way she could compete with his mom, he was a mama's boy. "Worth a shot."
"Yeah, there's no way you're gonna beat her." He admitted, chuckling lightly. He sighed and stood up, heading for the door as it was getting real late. "I'll see you, Jirou. Goodnight."
He was going to sleep on the couch and give her his bed, and although she would probably freak out over this, she couldn't really sit there and let him sleep out there. It was his room… Plus, after falling asleep on his chest on the couch, she was dying to do it again.
"You don't have to sleep on the couch…" She said, grabbing his attention. He turned to let her continue with his face a beet red. "Y-You could stay here with me. I know you'd probably be weirded out, but it's your room, man. Just don't try anything, alright?"
He seemed shocked that she'd even suggest that. He didn't think that she'd be comfortable with that sort of thing, though I guess everyone's full of surprises. I mean the suggestion alone left them both red faced, and she was yet to backout.
"A-Are you sure? I-I don't r-really mind sleeping on the couch…" He trailed off, mumbling. Jirou became increasingly aggravated due to her embarrassment and just yanked him onto the bed with her. Hearing him debate about it with himself audibly was just too much. Less thinking, more doing.
"Shut up and sleep." She commanded, snuggling closer to the greenette. Her face would grow hot, but laying with the greenette like this really soothed her anxiety. The two looked at each other and Midoriya had a fearful gaze. He exhaled, and closed his eyes trying his best to soothe his beating heart. Unfortunately Midoriya had a small bed so the two were gonna be forced into close proximity one way or another.
The two couldn't help but lay up against each other, Jirou was probably enjoying it more than Midoriya. He had to try and sleep with Jirou in such close proximity. However maybe the shared space left them with shared thoughts, or maybe they were just more alike than they had thought.
'Maybe I do want more…'
