Chapter 60
A urgent call for help came to the 4077th as an orphanage was in the midst of a outbreak and needed medication ever so urgently. Father Malchay was tasked to deliver the medication along with the company clerk. The company Colonel stood by the jeep with Radar behind the wheel and the Father placing the box of medication in the back.
Colonel Potter warned, "Now be careful son." He spoke to the Corporal, "There are reports of snipers in the area of the orphanage. Keep your head down, son." he advised.
"I will." he assured him.
The Father climbed into the passenger's seat, "The good lord will guild us. May he also keep Colonel Burns at bay." he stated worried.
Sherman assured, "We will be fine, Padre."
"I'm praying for all of the camp and Dom and his crew." he added. "Lord have mercy if Colonel Burns sees that chopper."
"We won't let him anywhere near it." he confirmed. He looked once more to Radar, "Be careful out there, son."
"We will, Colonel." the boy assured and then placed the jeep in gear.
The Colonel could only watch as Radar and the Father rolled out of camp towards the orphanage. He had a sinking feeling come over him. "Godspeed son." he spoke more to himself praying that nothing happens to his clerk or the Father.
Meanwhile
Colonel Frank burns made his way to Margaret Houlihann's tent. He wasted no time in trying to woo her once more. He rapped on the door. Much to his surprised Hawkeye Pierce opened the door. His face was covered in red lipstick kisses. He grinned, "Frank! What you doing here?" He knew all too well why Frank had come to Margaret's door and he stood blocking his attempt.
"Pierce!" he growled. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm just consoling an old friend." he slyly replied.
He gasped, "You and Margaret!" He nearly broke out into tears. "She always did like you better than me." he sounded like a child.
He stepped out of the tent to guild Frank away from the Major. He spun a tale, "This can't be that much of a surprise to you, Frank. Hot Lips and I always did have this…thing…going." he reached to describe the love/hate relationship they endured.
"I knew it!" he stomped. "Now I have to go back to my wife." he complained. "Margaret was the only thing that kept me going when she threatened to divorce me." He then stammered, "Now she with you. How could this happen?" he demanded to know.
Hawkeye shrugged, "It just happened."
He shook his finger at him annoyed, "She's too good for you, Pierce."
He agreed, "She is! She too good for you too, Frank."
"She is not." he rebutted. "I'll win her back. You'll see." he huffed sounding even more like a spoiled child.
He asked, "Are you even listening to yourself? You can just come back to camp and claim her like she's a lost dog."
"Why not?" he argued.
He cocked his head wondering if Frank has completely lost it since his promotion. "Because she's a human being. Not a lost dog. You can just claim her and think she will come running to you."
"We will see about that, Pierce." he huffed and then marched off infuriated.
Margaret then emerged from the tent with Caitlin and Sam as the three women removed the lipstick from their lips as all had planted kisses on Hawkeye's cheeks and forehead for the appearance.
Hawkeye looked at the three who covered his face in lipstick kisses. He must admit that he enjoyed being the canvas in the art project.
Margaret handed him a towel, "You can wipe the lipstick off with this towel, Pierce."
He gathered the towel and suggested, "I don't know. Maybe I will walk around like this all day." He pointed to his lipstick covered face.
Sam jested, "Then you can say you were jumped by three women who mugged you."
Hawkeye wiped the lipstick off and admitted, "You stole my line. That was my joke."
Caitlin grinned, "You know, Captain Pierce…you and Sam do have similar taste. You two are actually a lot alike." She looked to Sam, "He does remind me of you a little."
"How does Captain Pierce remind you of me?" she wondered for she didn't see any similarities.
The Major spoke up, "Simple! It was your idea to cover him in kisses to make Frank jealous."
Hawkeye countered, "That was my idea."
Margaret informed, "She thought of it first." She then had to agree, "Sam does remind me of you, Pierce. Only, she doesn't make passes at me or the other nurses and is more clean than you."
Sam stood blinking, "Wait! I'm the female version him?" She pointed to Hawkeye.
Caitlin agreed, "Didn't you hear what he said to Colonel Burns? That he could not just come into camp and claim Major Houlihann like some lost dog. Didn't you say the same thing to your parents when Dom came to your time?"
"They wanted to keep him and not send him back home." she recalled.
"And?" Caitlin motioned towards Hawkeye. "You two are a lot alike. You both speak from the heart, are very chatty, have a similar sense of humor and are both pretty damn smart."
Margaret smiled at her, "Maybe someday you could be a medical doctor too."
Sam shook her head wide-eyed, "I really don't like blood."
"Neither do I." Hawkeye admitted.
"But you are a surgeon." she countered. "You are up to your elbows in blood."
"And it's driving me insane." he agreed. "Frank doesn't mind the blood. He could careless. A patient died and he just goes to the next. Some surgeons are like that. Disconnected! Me…I'm good at it but I really don't like it." he confessed. "I would rather go back to private practice and just take vitals and prescribe medication. I like helping people, not operating on them."
Sam admitted, "I like helping people too. I see blood…" she shivered.
Margaret assured, "You are doing fine as a nurse. I think you can handle it."
She countered, "I can bandage someone up and get them to a doctor. There is no way I could ever do what Captain Pierce can do." She looked up to his face, "You sir…are amazing. I misjudged you a little when we first came to camp. I kind of thought you were this crazy clown. Then I saw the operating room and how you manage to keep your shit together in that room. That's amazing. You saved countless lives. I'm impressed."
Caitlin stated, "You are the only man I ever heard her say that she was impressed to, Captain." She patted his shoulder. "Most millennials are not impressed with anything. That's a huge compliment."
Hawkeye looked upon the young inventor, "I thank you. Maybe someday in the distant future you can come see me in the nursing home if I'm still alive."
"You bet." she laughed.
Catlin stated, "I'm surprised you just didn't offer him a ride to the future in Airwolf."
"If I can figure out how to get back, I will." she assured.
The four started towards the mess tent for some coffee and a bite to eat.
Hawke pondered, "Ride to the future in that chopper? Sounds like a tourist business."
Sam laughed, "Sure…we can sell tickets are air shows for time travel rides."
Caitlin shook her head, "I can see you doing that too! The government gets time travel and turns it into a weapon. Sam gets it and turns it into a carnival ride."
Hawkeye stated, "I would rather that kind of technology be in the hands of someone who would make into a carnival ride than someone who would make it into a weapon."
Major Houlihann had to agree, "The only thing to counter a time travel program in government hands would be if it was in private hands. It would balance out the power."
Sam pondered as the reached the tent, "Huh! Maybe the reason the aliens left my engine alone was because the government already has the technology and they want it in civilian hands?"
Hawkeye asked holding the door open for the women, "Aliens! We have aliens?"
Caitlin replied, "We have UFO's. Not sure what they are yet." She followed Sam into the tent and stood in line. "Ya know, Sam. That could be a possibility. Maybe E.T. wants you to have that engine."
"Maybe," she shrugged. She looked about, "Anyone seen Radar or the Father?" She found String sitting with Dom at a table with Sherman but no sign of her favorite clerk.
Major Houlihann stated, "They left this morning to an orphanage to deliver medication. They should be back tomorrow."
Hawkeye became alarmed, "Isn't there a sniper running around that area?"
She nodded, "There is! Been taking shots at the nuns in the orphanage. So, far no one had been hurt."
Caitlin stated, "That's kind of scary."
Sam asked, "Didn't the Colonel send an armed guard with them?"
The Major stated, "Radar is the armed guard. The Father delivering the medication."
She asked, "Is Radar able to fend off a sniper?" The boy didn't seem much like military material to her.
"They will be fine." Margaret stated a bit worried herself.
Caitlin stated, "If that crazy Colonel wasn't here then we could have delivered the medication in Airwolf."
Sam agreed, "We could have been there and back and found the sniper too. Uncle String and Dom would neutralized him."
They made their way to the line and same to the table where the camp's Colonel sat with Dom and String. They all sat down.
Hawkeye asked, "You sent Radar and the Father to the orphanage?"
"They are suffering from a spree of Whopping Cough. I sent them medications." Colonel Potter informed.
"There is a sniper running around up there." he reminded him.
"I'm aware of that, Pierce." he gave a nod. "I was just discussing the sniper with Dom and String here. Major Hawke is working on getting the his chopper fixed. He's keeping Rizzo away from Airwolf." he told them.
Dom stated, "If Frank wasn't here we would take Airwolf up there and drop off the medication and find the sniper."
Major Houlihann stated, "Sam just mentioned that."
String suggested, "Maybe we can do a night mission to clear the way for Radar and the Father? We can fly her at night. Frank won't see her, only hear her. We can go stealth mode." He looked to his crew. "The Colonel is giving us fuel. We can even load the guns."
Dom stated, "Airwolf can see in the dark, Margaret. We can use her to find the sniper before he takes out any kids at the orphanage." He warned, "We just can't let Frank see her."
Sam suggested, "How about you doctors give Frank something to knock him out and then we go find the sniper?"
Hawkeye looked at her, "You want me to give Frank something that will knock him out so he doesn't see that bird come or go?"
She nodded, "Yes."
He looked to Margaret, "That's unethical."
She agreed, "It is! Very unethical and if Frank figures out he was drugged…"
Dom suggested, "Get him drunk and slip him a Mickey."
Hawkeye looked at her and suggested, "Maybe you could invite him to your tent to smooth things out. Get something in him."
She warned, "That is so unethical." She paused as a slight grin came across her face, "The weasel deserves it though."
