Chapter 69
Sam found the inside of the old water plant to be livable much to her surprise. She was led through the corridors to a briefing room where she could hear loud voices as she got to the door.
"All I know is she's got my son and everyone else on that ship and one way or another I'm going to get him back." the brown haired man proclaimed to the group. He wore jeans and a tan cotton button down shirt with a brown leather jacket. Mike Donovan made his case known.
"We all have loved ones aboard that ship." a blonde haired woman told him. She was dressed in jeans and a red and white flannel and looked tired to Sam's estimation. She also looked a lot like Rhonda Blake and could pass as a sister. She figured she was Rhonda's cousin.
Sam stated, "You must be Julie Perrish."
Julie looked past Mike and to the men and women standing in the doorway. She gave a slight smile upon seeing String, Sinjin and Jo. She didn't know who the new face belonged to but instantly figured she was related to Jo for she looked much like her. "You must be Sam." she stated.
Sam walked into the room with alternate versions of her parents and uncle. She offered a hand, "I'm Dr. Samantha Hawke."
Julie shook her hand, "Welcome to the resistance, Dr. Hawke. Funny, I assumed you were related to Jo. You looks so much like her. I thought you two were sisters."
Sam looked to Sinjin, "You didn't tell her, did you?"
"I figured you can explain that whole quantum, alternate reality, time travel, timeline shit." he rebutted.
She motioned, "What was that about my language?"
"Hey this is beyond me. I'm just a pilot." he excused. "You two scientist can go figure it all out."
String told him, "Actually…I do follow some if it, Sinjin."
"I know you do." he agreed.
Mike asked, "Any closer on that so called experimental attack helicopter you two have been wasting your time with?"
String told him, "There is a part we will need to manufacture ourselves but I need access to a more advanced machinery."
Sam stated, "Just tell what you need and I can get it for you."
"Right," he rolled his eyes unsure how she would get a part he could not even make himself.
Julie stated, "Sinjin said it was important to meet you and you could help us."
"Well," she confessed. "I'm still figuring the situation out. I know how this will sound but are you familiar with multi universe theory?"
"Can't say I am." she shook her head. "My specialty is human medicine. Not physics."
A man spoke up, "I'm familiar with it! A little bit anyways." He was a middle aged man with dark hair and a rounded face. He wore tan slacks and a red pull over shirt as he stepped forward and offered a hand, "I'm Dr. Robert Maxwell. I'm an anthropologist. When I was in college I did take some advanced physics course and was introduced to the theory."
A tall and lanky young black man asked, "What's this multi-uni-something theory?"
Robert tried to explain, "It's a theory that says you can have many different versions of Earth and the universe all layered on top of one another and all existing at the same time. Imagine a cake with layers, Elias. Say we are the top layer of the cake and underneath us is another layer of the same cake. That layer can be the same as us, same flavor, same texture…like chocolate or it can be very different…say a vanilla layer of cake. This cake is endless in size and has an infinite number of layers. If you were to go to another universe or reality you could find another version of Earth that could be just like ours or very different. You could find another version of yourself or you may not exist at all."
The black man asked confused, "It's cake?" He seemed rather bewildered.
Julie chuckled, "No Elisha. I think Robert is trying to say is you could go to another version of Earth and find an exact copy of our Earth or something entirely different…like dinosaurs still alive and walking about."
"Exactly Julie." he agreed. He looked to Sam, "You are a physicist?"
She nodded, "I am and I invented a warp drive engine."
He paused, "Um…" he blinked, "Earth has space travel?"
She confessed, "If we do they kept it a secret. My engine led me to an alien presence in my reality that led me to your reality. I crossed realities. I'm from another layer of the cake. Alien technology is what brought me here. I don't understand how it works yet. It's more advanced than anything we have in my reality or time."
Robert perked up, "Reality or time?"
"I'm from 2022 in my reality. I went to the past as a result of accident I had with my engine, discovered the aliens in my version of Earth which led me here to your version of Earth which is still in the past." she explained. "In my world I established a stable wormhole between the year 2022 and 1984. The reality sliding happened in 1984 which is why I'm still in 1984 but in another version of earth. We don't have an alien occupation in my reality. We have these orbs buzzing us. Our aliens seem to be more in the background. They gave a red suit infused with nanites technology to a high school teacher and he's out there fighting crime with it. The suit gave him superhuman qualities. I don't think that teacher, if he exist was ever given a red suit here."
Julie asked, "Did you say nanites?"
She nodded, "Highly advanced ninites even for my time in 2022."
Elisha asked, "What are nanites, Julie?"
"It would be nano technology. Microscopic artificial intelligence or robots that are as small as a virus." she explained.
"Exactly!" Sam agreed. "Those nanites helped me slip here into your reality. It's alien in origin. Or so, I believe it is." She puckered in thought, "Unless our government has shit on a level of which we cannot imagine that they are hiding it from us…"
Mike balked, "Are you actually believing this, Julie?"
"I can't disprove it, Mike." she replied. "And it's possible it could be alien. We know life exist out there. We have proof of that with this invasion."
String stated, "Show them that phone of yours, Sam."
She retrieved the phone from her pocket and held it up. "This is 2022 technology. It's a cell phone and a computer in one. It has a camera in it too." She handed it to Julie, "Swipe it across the screen."
She used her finger and swiped the screen. It lit up, "This is advanced." She looked to Mike, "Look at this."
He took a look at the phone and then looked at Sam, "Okay…you have our attention, kid."
She then looked to her father, "He said the same thing you said to me. What is with you guys from the 80's anyways?"
Sinjin shrugged, "Maybe he's a relative of yours too?"
"I think I would know a Mike Donavon…" she then pondered, "Maybe I should get one of those DNA test and research the family tree?"
Julie stated, "This device is impressive but how can you help us, Dr. Hawke? You already said the aliens in your home reality are not present."
"If I can use the nanites to slide back and forth between realities I can get the parts needed for Airwolf along with fuel and support and maybe set up some kind of supply line. Also, there are a lot of talented people helping me with my engine. I can tell you who to recruit and assemble your own Avenger team. You got MacGyver already. You want to find a team called the A-Team. You need to find and recruit Michael Knight and KITT of Knight Industries if they exist here. You need Colonel Steve Austin. You will need Dr. Samuel Beckett. I'm going to slip back to my reality and get Ralph to come help with the suit." she figured.
Elias asked, "You have the Avengers too?"
Her eyes grew wide, "You mean Iron Man and Captain American really exist here?"
He shook his head, "Nah, the comic book."
She nodded, "Heck, we got movies. Your reality and mine and very similar. Just you guys have a slight alien invasion problem."
Mike cocked an eye, "Slight?"
She agreed, "Little bigger than slight."
Dr. Robert Maxwell stated, "If what you say is true and you can slip back and forth between two different realties and get supplies that would be a great help. But my question would be do our Visitors have the nanite technology too and can they do the same? It's logical to assume they could. They could follow you back to your reality and invade your world too."
Sam confessed, "I never thought of that. I suppose that is possible. Nanites can be detected with an energy signature and since your aliens have space ships and thus warp drive technology then they could detect the nanites and actually follow me back. That would be risky."
Julie suggested, "Unless you keep that energy signature so small they don't detect it. But I'm not sure what the Visitors have for sensors onboard that ship."
Sam asked, "What is aboard the ship?"
Mike stated, "Everyone! They have people, entire towns of people up there in stasis pods. They froze them for the trip back to their home world. There some will be made into troops and others will be dinner. They are sucking our fresh water lakes dry. They have total control of our governments and our military. Even if you could go to another version of Earth and come back…what will come back with kid? A bag of groceries! We need weapons on a military scale. Fuel, air support, fighter jets…" he motioned and looked towards String and Sinjin as they brothers were their only hope at having any sort of air support.
String stated, "She can get the parts Airwolf needs. She can supply us with fuel and ammunitions. Once we get Airwolf is not just an attack chopper, Donovan. It's also a jet. It's should be capable of mach one once we get her finished. She can take down those shuttles and out fly them."
"Those shuttles have laser cannons, String." he reminded him. "I flew one. They are very advanced."
"So is Airwolf." he promised.
Sam stated, "I wish I could get my hands on one of those shuttles. I would love to reverse engineer it." She then looked up above her head as if waiting for something to happen. She begged, "Come on nanites. Give me a shuttle." Nothing happened. "Least give me a rule book instead of the silent treatment." she stated frustrated.
String asked, "Don't you guys have a prisoner? Some alien you guys caught."
"Willie!" Julie nodded. "He's a technician. He very cooperative."
"Bring him in. Let Sam ask him some questions." he suggested. "And I got a few questions myself to ask him too."
An older black man with a mustache wearing a maintenance uniform stood up from his seat, "I'll get him."
She warned, "Easy Caleb. Willie is not responsible for what happened to Ben."
He reminded her, "He's a Visitor. They are all responsible. But I won't hurt him." He wandered out of the room to fetch the prisoner.
Sinjin asked, "How were you able to capture one of them?"
Julie stated, "He was out on a date with a girl named Harmony and we were able to capture him."
"Does she know their true nature?" he asked concerned.
"She does now." she nodded.
Sam could hear a female voice in the hallway coming closer. "Willie did nothing. I'm not going to let you torture him." she huffed.
Caleb then led a tall male dressed in civilian clothing into the room. He had curly blonde hair and what appeared to be white skin. He wore a glove on one hand. A red hair woman was behind him and Caleb demanding Willie not be harmed. She too was dressed in civilian clothing of jeans and a red and white stripped blouse.
"Willie wouldn't hurt a fly." she deemed.
Julie spoke up, "We're not going to hurt Willie, Harmony. We just want to ask him some questions." She turned to Sam, "This is Willie. He's a Visitor. Willie, this is Dr. Samantha Hawke and she wants to ask you some questions."
He spoke with a slight vibration to his voice, "Okay." He looked to Sam.
Sam started, "Your motherships. What kind of engine do you use to go through space?"
He replied, "The engine can move space around the ship so it's pushed through space."
"A warp drive engine." she concluded.
"I don't know the details of it. My job was to maintain the pipes for the water." he reported.
She asked, "Tell me about your planet."
He stated, "It's not as nice as your planet is. It's desert now. We need the water to bring back forest. Our leader promised to fix everything. He told us your planet didn't have a civilization. That you were like…monkeys. Just animals." He glanced to Harmony, "I found out after I arrived here that was a lie."
Sam took a small paper notebook and a pen from her pocket and started to draw, "Can you tell me what symbol this is, Willie?" She drew the symbol she saw on Ralph's red suit. She held it before the Visitor.
He blinked surprised, "The Peacekeeper."
She squinted, "The Peacekeeper?"
He nodded, "That's the symbol of the Peacekeepers. They are neutral in the war. They will place a Peacekeeper on certain planets with civilizations to signify they are neutral and are under Peacekeeper protection. If your planet had a Peacekeeper our leaders never would have led us here."
Sam then realized, "They gave Ralph the suit in my reality to stop an invasion. I wonder why they didn't give Ralph the suit here?"
Willie asked hopeful, "You know of a Peacekeeper?"
She nodded, "I do!"
He gushed, "How I wished I could be one when I was a youth. I used to dream of being one when I was older."
Julie asked, "What are these Peacekeepers, Willie?"
"They are chosen from your population. They are given a special red suit to wear and they keep the peace on the chosen world. The Peacekeepers are like…" he reached for a comparison, "Police officers but for the galaxy."
A young black man named Elias spoke up, "You mean like a Jedi Knight?"
Willie stated, "I do not know what that is. Peacekeepers have a red suit that is very advanced. The suit makes them special. They are a very rare and very special peace keeping force."
Sam asked, "Is the suit red with a black cape?"
"Yes!" he gushed like a small boy in a day dream. "I had every figure of every peacekeeper from every known world as a youth." Willie described his toy action figure collection.
"Are the Peacekeepers super heroes?" Sam asked.
He beamed, "They are heroes! But they are fading. As the older Peacekeepers die, few are being chosen to replace them. I fear that someday there will be none and then…" he grew sad, "more invasions and more wars."
Sam asked, "Can your ships detect nano technology?"
He shrugged, "I don't know what that is and I don't have the security clearance to get that information."
Mike stated, "I know someone who does."
All eyes fell on the man.
"Martin." he stated firmly.
"Martian?" Sam asked.
"Inside man." he gave a firm nod.
