AN: Another chapter.
I kind of want to show how crazy having seizures can be. They are unpredictable and can happen anywhere at any time and any day. There are a number of different types of seizures, grand mal, absence, partial tonic clonic, drop attacks. Every seizure is different. My sister experience 4 different kind of seizures in one day. I want to show that.
I also was to show some recovery with both JJ and Emily. Emily is going to be feeling guilty a lot, she feels it's her fault. JJ has been ignoring her own issues because she's had other stuff to focus on. We will discover more about the kidnapping later on. I haven't wrote the next chapter yet, but it's possible I might go into it then.
Disclaimer - I don't own criminal minds or its characters.
Trigger warning for kidnapping and attacking.
Arriving at the park Emily had set off ahead. The team along with their partners and children hadn't arrived much earlier so the kids were still getting sunscreen on and getting ready to play. Garcia was lathering up Luke in his sunscreen when Gracie shouted. Mommy. All 6 children saw Emily smiling and walking towards them. No one could stop them now; they ran at her. Their Mommy was back.
"Mommy we missed you." Lizzie exclaimed not wanting to let go of their mother.
Emily let a couple of tears fall. "I missed you all so so much. I'm sorry I wasn't here for a while."
"It's okay Mommy. You're back now." Henry too didn't want to let go. Being older he understood more that his mommy might never come back. He heard his momma crying at night, and he heard her talking to his aunts and uncles about his mommy not being home. He cried so glad his mom was back. He had missed her.
JJ stood at the car she smiled. She was so glad they all seemed to be okay with Emily back. The missing piece to their family was back and JJ was so grateful for it. Emily seemed happy she took the kids back over to the picnic blanket and let Garcia finish lathering them up. The sun was out so they needed it.
Morgan looked at JJ smiling. She was still waking up from her nap. "You not pissed with her?"
"Honestly?" She questioned looking to the darker skinned man who then nodded. "I am a little bit but I'm exhausted and I'm just so glad she's back. The kids need her, and I need her too. I can't rely on you guys forever and you go back on full duty next week. You all have families that you need to be with. I just wish she hadn't run in the first place because then maybe I wouldn't be wanting to disappear for a few days."
Morgan was taken a back for a second. "You want to leave too?" He asked unsure if he was listening correctly.
The smaller woman shook her head. "No, I just wish I could have a couple of days to myself to think and stuff. But I don't want to die from these stupid seizures so that's not gonna happen. I'll just try catch a couple of hours alone tomorrow when they're all back in school." She reached in the car and grabbed her bag and the two walked over to the others sitting down on the picnic blanket along with the others.
JJ had rested her head on Emily's shoulder and grabbed a book to read but it was only about 5 minutes before she again was fast asleep.
Hotch noticed and pointed it out. "Garcia mentioned she had a seizure before you came, is she okay?" He was concerned. If he was honest JJ was one of the best people he'd ever had to work with. She constantly when above and beyond. She always stayed late and would keep taking on chucks of cases which weren't even hers. She was the best shot, and she was one of his best friends. He wanted her to come back. But he knew in reality it would probably a while. Her seizures weren't well controlled, and after each seizure her 3-year restriction on driving started again.
Emily shrugged one shoulder. "I honestly don't really know. She seems okay but tired."
"How is she about your disappearing act. She cried every night from nightmares and asked for you. She sounded so young when she asked for you." Rossi said confirming what his boss had told them.
Emily nodded not really that surprised. "Whenever she's had a nightmare in the past she always gets the baby voice and calls for me. I'm sorry I made you guys look after her. I'm sorry I ran away. I don't really have an excuse other than I was a dick head who didn't know what or who I had in front of me. I'm sorry." She repeated again. She couldn't help but feel the guilt bubbling inside her. If only she would have stayed. She had to stay now. As much as her stomach was telling her to run far away, she couldn't her kids and wife were more important. She had to focus on that right now.
"Don't worry about it. We all do it sometimes. We all need to do it sometimes." Garcia said grabbing her best friends' hand. She could see she was getting slightly emotional about it. Something Emily rarely did in front of the others. Clearly there was a bit turmoil inside her. It was something which could hopefully be fixed with time.

A couple of hours later the group had fed all their kids. JJ had gotten up at the request of Spencer's 5-year-old Katherine. So, she was up playing with a group of kids. Morgan had most of the boys over at the monkey bars, all of them taking turn to be lifted a cross by the muscled man. Emily had sat back with Gracie. She was tired and grumpy, so she was rocking her in her arms lulling the toddler into a peaceful sleep. All in all, the day at the park was going well so far. JJ still wanted to chat with Emily but that was for when they were in bed not something for in front of the kids.
JJ knew it was coming. She had told the kids that she would go and get Aunt Penny to come play with them while she had a break, but this was coming on a lot quicker than the one she had earlier. She felt a sob escape. Just the one as she lowered herself to the group. She hoped one of the team had seen her before she blacked out.
"Hotch what's she doing?" Emily asked seeing JJ stumble away from the kids.
"I don't…" He paused as he watched her go down to the ground. He ran grabbing her, he didn't want to scare kids and he didn't want to leave JJ fitting in the sand.
"Hotch what the fuck." Emily exclaimed putting Gracie down in her buggy and strapping her in. "Why is she having another one?"
Hotch shrugged. "I don't know the full details, but she got her bashed in too many times. Don't you remember the doctors telling you she had a Traumatic Brain Injury. It's something to do with that. If you find Reid, he can tell you the statistics."
Emily stood back watching as she wife shook. There was nothing she could do. She wanted to cry. She wanted to bring Ian back and bash his head in like he repeatedly did to JJ while they were in captivity. She tried to shake the image she had in her head out. But it wasn't going.
Flashback
"JJ wake up I can hear them coming back." JJ stirred from her position on the floor her head was on Emily's legs. She already knew she had a concussion, after everything else she had been through she was exhausted, so Emily had agreed to let her sleep for an hour before waking her. Clearly, she was not getting that hour sleep.
"I wish he would leave us alone. As if what he's done already has been enough to ruin our lives." The blonde grumbled angrily.
The door swung open and Ian stood looking at both JJ and Emily sitting leaning against the wall. His men had still left them bound. There was no way they could stand up. "I'm okay. Before you ask." He laughed looking at Emily.
"You and Pat deserved what you got. Don't you dare touch my wife again." Emily growled.
Ian walked over and crouched close to them. "Pat died on his way to hospital you bitch. So, it's time for pay back." Pat was his right-hand man. Almost like a brother to the evil man. He grabbed hold of JJ yanking her up and pulling her away from Emily.
"No." Emily screamed. "Leave her alone she didn't do anything. It was me." She begged. JJ was in much worse a condition and if Ian was to hurt her, Emily feared JJ wouldn't make it home. She fought against her binds trying anything she could to pull her arms or legs apart in order to help JJ. She fell onto her side and tried hard to worm her way across the room
He laughed. "You hurt someone I care about so I'm going to return the favour." He pushed JJ headfirst into the wall. Her forehead taking the brunt of it because of the way she stood. He didn't stop there. He picked her up each time knocking her down to the ground making sure the blonde would whack her head.
"Please Doyle." Emily shouted over JJ's grunts and screams, it seemed to be no use he wasn't listening to her. But she still continued to fight, as she got closer a man she hadn't seen before came pulling her back, holding her still so she could watch what Ian was doing. She had to watch as he tried to destroy the woman she loved.
After JJ had hit the floor a few times he kicked her around, forcing her to lay on her back and straddled her. He grabbed the front of the young woman's face picking it up and bashing it down even when she was unconscious. Even when she had convulsed for the first time. She hadn't woken up after that until the team had found them a few hours later and she was in hospital.
End Flashback
Emily ignored the images of JJ playing in her head. The images of her head constantly being hit off the floor. She sat by her side as she convulsed. A few parents had walked past, a couple had come up to the group asking if they needed anything. But Emily tried to focus on JJ. She wondered if JJ knew what was happening, if she knew she was sat next to her wanting this to go away. The closer they got to the 5-minute mark the more Emily's heart pounded out of her chest. Time was going pain stakingly slow. Morgan had walked over with Reid and told Emily they would keep the kids busy until it had passed.
Each member looked over as time got closer and closer. Hotch grabbed JJ's purse from the back of Gracie's pram and rummaged through for her rescue medication. He pulled the tube out and popped it open. He watched JJ on one of the first couple of weeks home. He had used this medication a lot. He'd figured in his own way how to do this with ease.
The unit chief got on his knees and pushed the tube into the fitting agents' cheeks before massaging either side. He looked to Emily, who he noticed was watching everything he was doing. "Come on JJ." He mumbled as he sat back. Everyone let out a big release of breath as she stopped falling into a sleep, her brain needing to rest from what had just happened.
"What now?" Emily wondered.
"We do what we gotta do. She sleeps for a good couple of hours after having the rescue meds. She should be okay." Hotch and Beth pulled JJ into the middle of the blanket they were sat on leaving her to rest. "If we needed to take her to hospital Savannah would have said. Don't worry too much." He gave her shoulder a squeeze and walked away allowing air to circulate more in the tight group.
Rossi turned to Emily. "Bella, I have to take the grandkids back home. But I'll phone later." He made his rounds giving handshakes and kissed before grabbing Alexandra and Antonia. He and Krystall left.
The rest of the group stood a round for another hour but now at 3pm it was time to go home. JJ was still sparked out on the floor. Morgan got her into the car. He knew Emily's ribs were still hurting, he didn't want her pulling them more if she didn't have to.
"Savannah said I can follow you back and put her in bed if you like?" The shaved headed agent said closing the passenger seat door.
Emily shook her head. "Thank you, Derek, but we will be okay. I need to try get over myself and learn to deal with this. But if I do need help, I'll call you."
He put his arm over her shoulder. "You sure Princess?" He smiled. Who would have thought that this morning Emily Prentiss was scared to be around her family, and now in just a few hours she was acting like she'd never left?
"Yes. Now go home. Thank you for everything."
He nodded and the groups climbed into their car parting for their homes.
