Trigger Warning mentions of injuries from an attack (I'm just being super careful)

JJ and Emily had arrived at hospital. They had stopped at home picking up a car for themselves, so they could get home later on. They were grateful Alice was getting back into a routine with the children. It allowed them the time to go to their appointments, now and for upcoming weeks until they were allowed back in work. "So what's this appointment for?" Emily asked as she followed JJ down the hallways.

"Erm, a general check of how everything is healing, blood tests an MRI and an EEG. So basically everything." She turned and linked Emily. As they got into a busy part of the hospital JJ preferred to stay close to Emily, for both their safety.

Emily almost laughed. Almost. This wasn't something she felt comfortable laughing about while it was still raw. "So you're in for a long day then."

"We." JJ mumbled.

Emily missed what JJ had said. "What was that sweetie?" She asked.

"I said we. I might have phoned the doctor and told them you were coming with me. They said they're going to check you over too. See your healing well and check your ribs." JJ slightly ducked her head knowing Emily might be slightly pissed. But someone had to look after the brunette.

Emily groaned. "Are you serious. We came here for you."

JJ gave Emily a cheesy smile and looked at her. "Well I couldn't let you get bored. Now we can tackle the both of us at once instead of having to come back again."

Emily rolled her eyes. "You are a pain in my arse you know." Maybe it was okay to laugh slightly. They arrived at the reception desk, both checked in, luckily they were only asked to wait 5 minutes before being taken back. JJ was taken one way for an MRI, Emily another for an x-ray.

Emily's X-ray only took a few moments. She was asked to keep the gown on as she went through to the exam room to meet the doctor.

"Hi Emily, how have we been?" Dr Lisa Barkley had been Emily's doctor while she was in hospital. Her patient was very stubborn. She had learnt that the first day she had been treating the brunette agent.

Flashback

"Emily Prentiss, 38. Stab wound to the left thigh, possible broken ribs, possible concussion. Significant bruising to the face. Held captive for 5 days, BP is 156/87, O2 is 91." The paramedic reeled off the stuff she had learnt in the past 20 minutes of being with the brunette agent.

"Thank you." Dr Barkley took the gurney pushing Emily into a trauma room where she could begin her assessment. She had been called down specifically because she was one of the better doctors and all she knew was 2 FBI agents were coming through the ER doors.

She introduced herself to Emily who was fighting against the nurses. "I need to get to my wife. She needs me. I have to see her." She said sitting up grabbing hold of the IV pulling it out.

"Emily listen to me." Dr Barkley said sternly trying to get her attention.

The injured woman shook her head. "No I need to see my wife. She was hurt. She was raped she needs me. I have to protect her."

Dr Barkley grabbed hold of her patients hands. "Emily, look at me." She had managed to gain her attention. "You have to stay here. Let these nurses clean you up and hook you up to some fluids. I'll find out where your wife is and make sure she is properly looked after. She will be safe until you get to her. You've got to have surgery on your leg before you can go see her though."

"No. I'm not having surgery until I see her." Emily was insistent.

"But you need to…" She was quickly interrupted.

"No."

The doctor rolled her eyes. She left to find the wife of her patient. As she left she saw a blonde come in. The injuries this woman had sustained and the fact she was raped clued the doctor in on who she was. She halted the paramedics and doctor as she grabbed Emily. "Talk to her quickly now then let us do our job.

Emily kissed JJ's head. "Baby be okay. Please be okay. I love you so much. I love you." Emily kissed her one more time before JJ was taken into her own room. Emily allowed her own doctor to do her job.

End Flashback.

Emily smiled seeing the familiar doctor. "I've been okay. How have you been?" She shook the hand of the smaller doctor.

"I've been good." She returned the hand shake pausing looking at Emily's wrist. "That's good. All bruising has gone." She put the hand down letting Emily place it on her lap. "Can I check your surgical scar?"

Emily lifted her gown showing the women the neat scar on her leg. "That's healed amazing." The doctor observed. "The redness should go down with time. It's completely normal. Vitamin E oil is really good with healing things like this."

"How are your ribs? Still sore?" The doctor went to her computer and pulled up the x ray giving it a full look.

"Not really, just when I bend in a funny way or pick up something heavy, it pulls a bit but other than that I feel fine."

Dr Barkley nodded and turned back to Emily. "Well your x-ray is clear. You've healed really well, so the soreness should go away in a couple of weeks. If not mention it to the physical therapist and they'll give you some exercises. How is PT going?"

Emily winced. She new she should have started once she was out of hospital, she had slight weakness in her leg so before she could return to active duty, she had to sort it out and she knew that. "I haven't started yet." She held her hands up and she saw the doctors' mouth was about to move. "I'm going to get the BAU PT to start next week if they can."

"Alright. I'm going to phone up and check. If you don't start, I'll get the hospital doctor to do it with you. I'm guessing you haven't started Therapy yet either." She grabbed Emily's notes jotting things down.

"Not yet. But again, I'm going to make some calls and get started as soon as. I want to go back to work."

The FBI agent was relieved when her doctor had no more questions for her. She wanted to get changed and find JJ. Which after a 5-minute chat she was allowed to do. Her doctor led her to the room JJ was in knocking before they walked in.

"Hey Jayje." Emily said as she walked in the room. JJ was currently getting the EEG wires and stickers stuck to her head. "I'm loving this fashion statement." She chuckled.

"Thanks babe. This is Dr Abi West. She's taking over from Dr Richards." JJ pointed then up to Emily. "This is my wife Emily." She introduced the two. The shook hands exchanging pleasantries.

"How is everything my love?" Emily asked taking the seat next to JJ. She took JJ's hand her thumb rubbing over the back over her hand.

"We haven't really gotten anywhere yet. I had the MRI, which took a bit longer than we thought. Turns out I'm a tad claustrophobic, so we had to start again. Then I came in here, and she's spent the last 15 minutes sticking these too my head, and we were just talking about Lizzie wanting to be a doctor." She shrugged. The computer screen showed JJ's brain waves, and both turned to it for a moment before looking back at each other. "Everything okay with you?"

Emily nodded. "Of course, I just have to start PT and Therapy this week and Dr Barkley will be happy. I have hopefully a last appointment in another 6 weeks times."

"That's great." JJ smiled flipping her hand so she could kiss Emily's which still rubbed the back of her own hand.

"Okay, so Jennifer. It's now recording but I'm just gonna talk to you about your seizures and monitor this. It'll be running for about an hour to see if we pick anything up while you're here." The couple nodded understanding what would be going on.

"So how many seizures are you having a day?"

"Between three and five I've been told." Abi jotted down a couple of notes on scrap paper which lay at the side of the computer.

"And when was your last seizure?"

"This morning. I think it was around 8 wasn't it?" JJ asked looking to Emily.

Emily nodded agreeing. It was when Alice arrived. "Yeah 8am lasting for around 2 minutes."

"Alright, how many times in the past month have you used your rescue medication?"

"I think it's around 2 or 3 a week."

"Okay." The doctor went to writing a few notes down She moved them from the scrap paper to JJ's file, she didn't want to loose this information.

JJ pouted slightly at the silence, now was a good a time as any to bring up something she really needed to ask. "Is there any chance of changing the daily medication I'm fed up of having to sleep alllll day. I want to go back to work at some point."

"Yeah, I'm going to change you too…" She tapped her pen thinking of the next one she wanted to use. Seizures with a TBI could be complicated and she wanted to use the right medication. "I want to try you on Felbatol. But you'll have to have monthly blood tests just so we can check your not having any reactions to it."

JJ nodded. "Thank you."

Abi clocked something on the EEG. She turned to it. But as quick as it was there it was gone. But it came back again. She looked to JJ and then back to the monitor. "How do you feel Jennifer?"

JJ tried to look at the screen. "I feel fine why?" Emily too tried to see what the doctor could see on the screen.

Abi moved out the way. "Okay, so see these little spikes, these are normal brain waves. Everyone has these. Yours are slightly different because you had a seizure this morning and that's normal. But, you see these bigger ones?" She pointed to the waves which seemed odd and random compared to the others. "These show me your having seizure activity. Now looking at you. I can you've got a slight tremor in your left hand. It's very slight. And your eyes keep fluttering. I believe you've had a different kind of seizure than you've been having."

"What does that mean?" Emily asked still not taking her eyes off the screen which showed exactly what JJ's brain was doing.

JJ sat back, she knew what was about to happen her vision changed and her head went dizzy. She leaned back as far as she could in the chair. "Emily. It's gonna happen." She mumbled. Then her world went black.
