Chapter 3: Eda, King, Gus and Willow

A couple of minutes after Hooty abruptly ended the call, Camilla was pleased to see that another call was coming in from her daughter.

"Sorry about that Mamá, Hooty can be a bit… much sometimes!" Luz said with a laugh.

"You're sure she's not stuck in there?" Hooty asked in the background.

"For the hundredth time! Yes Hooty! It's just like a crystal ball!" Amity said, starting to get annoyed at the owl.

"Hehehe…"

"Sounds lively, that's for sure… now you said that he was the house that you're living in?" Camilla asked.

"Oh yeah! Take a look!" Luz said as she turned the phone so the house was in frame. "This is The Owl House!"

"Oh how nice! I'm guessing it's called that because of Hooty?" Camilla asked.

"Yup!" Luz said.

"Well, that sounds really nice, but you aren't living there by yourself, are you?" Camilla asked.

"Of course not! Here, let me introduce you to the two I live here with!" Luz said.

First, she pointed the camera at Eda… at least, she was going to before King snatched the phone out of her hand.

"Hi there!" King said as he held the phone close to his face.

"WAH!"

"King! Don't do that! You're scaring her!" Luz scolded as she took the phone away from him, then pointed the camera at him. "This is…"

"AY QUE LINDO!" Camilla suddenly shouted. "Oh my gosh Luz, who is this cutie?!"

"Why do you humans always say that when you see me?! What does that even mean?! AND I AM SUPPOSED TO BE…!"

"This is King, he's such a cute little baby isn't he?!" Luz gushed.

"So adorable!" Camilla said.

"Stop! You're supposed to be intimidated!" King shouted.

"Awww…" Luz and Camilla both gushed.

"GRRRR…"

"Ok, ok, don't want him to go all 'Squeak of rage' on us… we don't know what his voice powers will do with that after all…" Eda said.

"Oh, uh… yeah, good point." Luz said.

"Voice powers?" Camilla asked.

"Yeah! Check it!" King said as he turned to face a nearby rock.

"WEH!"

Sound waves then came out of his mouth and reduced the rock to pebbles.

"Oh my! The little fella is strong!" Camilla said. "Such a good boy…"

"Hehe! Bout time you get it!" King said, his tail wagging.

"Good job King." Luz said as she pulled him in for a hug.

"Hehehe! Yes! Worship me more!" King said.

"Aww…" Camilla cooed quietly.

"Anyways, King actually lives here with me and one other…" Luz said before finally pointing the camera towards Eda.

"Hi there! I'm Eda, the Owl Lady, owner of this fine establishment, most powerful witch in the Boiling Isles pending the curing of a certain curse and freeing of a certain bird, and your daughter's mentor and caretaker while she's here!" Eda said.

"Wait… haven't I seen you before?" Camilla asked.

"And I may or may not be banned from some food place in your realm for uh… a certain incident involving a raccoon and flying moon things." Eda said.

"Oh, right…" Camilla said. "Luz, are you sure you can trust her?"

"Mom, she may be weird, but she's really nice when you get to know her." Luz said.

"Yeah! I only got arrested like, once…" Eda said.

"Arrested?!"

"Eda! Not helping!" Luz scolded.

"Hey, I'm proud of that! Emperor Belos is just a big old jerk!" Eda said.

"Emperor?" Camilla asked.

"Yeah, he's a jerk! Tried to turn Eda into stone… he's the reason I'm stuck here actually…" Luz explained.

"Really?"

"He… he wanted the old portal, but I couldn't let him have it… but if I didn't give it to him, Eda and King would of been turned to stone, so… I gave it to him and uh… blew it up with some fire magic?" Luz said, unsure as to how her mother would react.

Surprisingly, Camilla smiled.

"So you didn't have a choice… you got stuck there because of him." Camilla said. "And so that you can save the lives of those you cared about."

"Yes! Exactly!" Luz said. "Everyone I've met here means so much to me! I just… I couldn't let that happen to them!"

Camilla smiled. "I'm proud of you sweetie."

"Thanks Mamá."

"Now, would you mind if I talked to Eda for a moment?" Camilla asked.

Eda and Luz just looked at each other.

"Oh uh, sure!"

Luz handed the phone over to Eda and went over to talk to her friends.

"Thought you'd want to talk to Luz more to be honest."

"I do… but I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you Eda." Camilla said. "You've done a great job of taking care of my daughter."

"Heh, really she takes care of me just as much as I take care of her." Eda said.

"I don't doubt it. Luz has such a caring heart, and would do anything for her friends…" Camilla said before looking down.

"… You know, she never really talks about any friends back home… just you…"

"Makes sense, she didn't have any friends in the human realm." Camilla admitted. "Everyone always thought of her as too weird to spend time with, so they avoided or even bullied her."

"Oof, bullies are not fun…" Eda said, feeling a bit guilty herself.

"When Vee came back from camp as Luz and she was making friends, I was so happy! I thought that my baby was finally going to be able to open up more, and show others just how caring and special she really is…" Camilla admitted. "But, then I found out that it wasn't true…"

"It's true alright, you just haven't seen it yet." Eda said before turning the camera towards Luz and the others. "A lot has happened since she got here, and she's made some great friends. It might not be quite what you had in mind, but she found people who love the weirdness that she brings into their lives, myself included."

"That… that makes me happier than you could ever believe." Camilla said as she wiped a tear out of her eyes.

"Good to hear." Eda said. "And don't worry, I may not have my magic right now, but I will do everything in my power to make sure Luz get's home to you safely."

"You don't have your magic?" Camilla asked.

"Yeah, tricky little curse I got hit with a while back. I'm sure Luz'll tell you about it at some point." Eda explained. "But hey! I can turn into a Harpy now because of it! That's neat!"

"Oh wow, that does sound… uh… neat…" Camilla said. "And thank you Eda, for helping her so much."

"Hey, us weirdo's gotta stick together, that's what I always say." Eda said with a wink.

"Yeah… you're right."

"Anyways, I think Luz wants to introduce you to Gus and Willow next, so I'll let them do that." Eda said.

"Of course, thank you again Eda."

Eda smiled and handed the phone over to Luz.

"Ok Mamá, next are the first two friends I made here besides Eda and King." Luz said before pointing the camera at Willow and Gus.

"Hi Ms. Noceda!" Willow said with a wave.

"Hello!" Gus added.

"This is Willow and Gus!" Luz introduced.

"Nice to meet you two!" Camilla said with a smile.

"Willow here is sooooo good with plants! And Gus is a genius when it comes to illusions!" Luz explained.

"Oh, I'm not that good…" Willow said.

"Seriously?! I don't think I've seen anyone with plant magic as good as yours!" Luz pointed out.

"If my Luz is giving you praise like that it must be true! How about you let me see?" Camilla said.

"Oh uh… ok!" Willow said before drawing a circle in the air.

And suddenly, a bunch of vines sprouted out of the ground.

"Oh my!" Camilla said in surprise. "That's incredible!"

"Oh, it's not much…" Willow said bashfully.

"Don't sell yourself short sweetie, you have a gift, be proud of it!" Camilla said.

Willow just smiled.

"My turn!" Gus said.

"And mine!" Said another Gus.

"Don't forget about me!" Said a third.

"Oh wow! So you can make clones of yourself?" Camilla asked.

"That's not all!" Gus said as he made himself look like Luz. "Tadaaaa!"

"That sure is something!" Camilla said.

"The three of us have been through a lot together, ever since that whole abomination incident…" Luz said.

"Don't remind me…" Willow said.

"I'll tell you about it some time!" Luz said.

"Oh! Tell her about the Grudgby game!" Willow said.

"Ok, so, there were these bullies that were pretty much tormenting Willow for a while, so I got the idea of challenging them to a Grudgby game! Uh, Grudgby is a popular sport here… with a very dumb rule…" Luz began to explain.

"I see, go on!"

"Right, so, I kinda pushed Willow and Gus too far, and well… ended up trying to win the game by myself as a result!" Luz said. "Then Amity convinced the two of them to come back, and help us win… until that stupid rule came into play and made us lose…"

Camilla then looked confused.

"Amity?"

"Oh! I'll introduce you to her next! Trust me Mamá, you're going to love her!"

Camilla did not fail to notice the bit of red on Luz's cheeks.

"Well, we better let you get to that then." Willow suggested. "I can't wait to see you in person Ms. Noceda!"

"Same here Willow."

Luz smiled.

Their plan might actually be working!

End of Chapter 3

I wanted to get all the other characters out of the way before Amity in the next chapter. I know I said I wouldn't be mentioning the sequel, but I just wanted to say, yes, Amity IS going to be a very important character in the sequel. In fact, in terms of characters that are in this story, Amity and Luz are pretty much the only two that will be present throughout the sequel. There are other characters, they are just not appearing in this story. Also, Eda and the others WILL appear and be important, but not for the entire story.

Tomorrow, we see just how Amity and Luz's mom get along! Look forward to it!
