AN: So the next chapter is going to be more of a medical one. After the next few chapters I'm going to probably jump to the 6 month mark. Roughly when JJ will be cleared to come back to work. If I'm nice.
Have fun reading I guess.
"Yeah Dr West I think I can bring her in later…" Emily paused waiting for the reply on the other side of the phone. "Yeah 1pm is fine. Thank you." JJ stayed lay on her side listening to the end of her wifes conversation. She had just woken and last nights antics had come rushing back. Embarrassment and sadness fell over her body. Wishing last night could have gone differently. She felt the weight shift on the bed as Emily sat down next to her. She closed her eyes hoping Emily would think she was asleep. "Morning babe. I know your not sleeping."
JJ rolled over to face Emily, leaning up on one arm. "Morning. Who was on the phone?" She knew who it was having heard her name, but she wanted to check.
The phone call had been to JJ's doctor. After throwing away her medication last night she needed more, but that meant a call to the doctor. However, upon hearing what had happened she had asked for JJ to come in. Emily agreed thinking it was a good idea. Maybe JJ having a chat with her might help. "It was Dr West. We're gonna go see her at 1. Get you some more medication and have a chat. She wanted to talk to you about something anyway. So, it's more convenient. But she said to be careful today. With you not having taken your morning dose and I'm guessing you didn't take last nights you might have more seizures."
A nod and sigh came from JJ. She had screwed herself just like she had done everything else. She sat up and tucked her wild and matted hair behind her ears. She looked to her partner who was sat on the bed looking at her knees. JJ got up on her knees and put her fingers under Emily's chin. She had to fix this. Emily was now looking at JJ straight in the eyes. "I'm sorry."
"I know. You said last night. Don't worry." Emily shrugged her off.
JJ wouldn't let her go. "No, it's not okay. Last night I was upset. I didn't mean what I said. I just wanted someone to blame for the crap we keep going through and you were an easy target. I love you so much. You protected our babies from getting possibly hurt, or worse. I owe you everything. I wish I could take back what I said last night. But I can't its out there. But know I'm sorry and I want to do everything I can to make it up to you." The mini monologue had both women's heightened emotions playing up.
Usually the two weren't this emotional. But recent things had caused everything to mess them up. It caused the, to feel out of control and that wrecked with their heads.
"Jaybird, you don't have to be sorry. I said stuff too. I mean I'm pretty sure I was worse. I insinuated you wanted to get…" She paused. She still couldn't believe that came out of her mouth the night before. "…I scared you. I threw things. I'm sorry." Both women paused. They looked at each other. Knowing each other was sorry for what had been said on the previous day. Their tears were stopped by a laugh coming from JJ.
"Look at us. We are both such emotional messes." She wiped Emily's tears then going on to wipe her own. "We don't cry like this. We don't argue like this."
Another chuckled came from Emily. "No, we usually just have an emotional sex sesh and get on with it."
Both laughed. They were relieved. At least after everything they could still laugh and make a couple of jokes. They would be okay. It would take time, but they would get there It just meant taking time and talking to each other. After a couple more moments sitting laughing on the bed they got up. It was 11:20 they had an hour and a bit before they had to set off to get to the hospital to see JJ's doctor. JJ hadn't managed to get through the morning without a seizure. She'd had one during her shower. She had called Emily who had helped her out the tub and to the floor. She had another one minutes before they had left. It had been over 24 hours now since JJ had taken her medication and clearly as the doctor had said she would have more. The blonde cursed herself for throwing away the tablets. Her body was hating her right now and was just going to get sorer as the day went on and she had more seizures.
They arrived at the hospital and they walked round to the waiting room and they sat waiting for Dr West to come and get them. Emily had something on her mind. "JJ, do you want me to stay off work? I never asked if you were okay with me going back. Hotch won't mind if I don't go back just yet."
"Erm… I mean, it's up to you really. I don't mind either way. Do you feel ready to go back?" She asked. JJ would love nothing more for her wife to stay home. If Emily went in, she would be leaving around 8 every morning which would be when the kids were due to leave for school, but she wouldn't be back until at the earliest 5:30 but it could be later if they had a heavy case load. She didn't want Alice to have the extra stress of looking after herself as well as her own children. But she didn't want Emily to not work just because she said not for her to go.
Emily pursed her lips. She was trying to read JJ. "I think I'm ready physically. And as much as I love you getting back into a routine might help us. But I don't want to do it without you. I don't want to upset you by going into work, and you sitting at home depressed because you can't come in."
"Jennifer Jareau." A nurse called interrupting JJ as she was about to reply.
JJ stood up and pushed a standing Emily back down. She planted a kiss on her lips. "I can do this. I'll call you through if I need you. Chill out. Think of this as a small practise run." She smiled and walked off her hips swaying as she followed the nurse to the office.
To say JJ was nervous was an understatement. She had to face her doctor and tell her she'd had the mother of all mood swings and threw everything away. She felt a blush spread to her cheeks as she tried to come up with what to say. How could she explain what had happened the following night? Was she going to ask for details?
She could feel herself getting more flustered and the tell-tale signs she was going to fit appeared. The nurse opened the door and Abi smiled. Welcoming the blonde agent into the office. She had managed to sit herself down before she left her body relax sending her into a seizure.
Abi was a good and efficient doctor. She grabbed what looked like an epi pen. She popped the cap and stuck it into JJ's thigh. She called the code, meaning a few nurses ran in, Emily rushed round too hearing it had come from the office her wife was in. But quicker than she usually was JJ had stopped seizing and had come round. Slightly confused. "Welcome back." Abi smiled.
"Emily?" JJ frowned seeing Emily knelt next to her and Abi on the other side. "It happened again?" Her wife nodded and helped JJ up sitting her in the big chair where EEG's were usually done. It was for sure the best chair in the room with the padding and how it would recline slightly.
"How are you feeling?" Dr West asked sitting in her wheelie chair rolling it over to JJ taking some observations.
The blonder profiler shrugged. "Tired and sore. But I'm fine. I think I'm gonna have a nap when we leave." She didn't feel as bad as she thought she might do. She allowed herself to sit back in the chair to relax her muscles, but she was quite alert.
The doctor smiled. "That's good then. I've got a new rescue med for you to try." She held up the epi pen like object before handing it to Emily and JJ who looked at the item in her hand. "It's a new way to administer it. Same drug, but we have found it enters the body quicker this way. All you do is put it on your thigh and press the button and your done, you just wait for it to work. If the first dose doesn't work after a minute, you can give an extra dose, but you will have to phone for an ambulance. You won't be able to phone the office."
Both agents nodded surprised but happy at the object in their hands. They handed Dr West back the item. Maybe coming in today wasn't a bad idea. "So, who wants to talk about what happened last night?" The doctor asked. She hadn't gotten many details off Emily on the phone. She just knew JJ had thrown her meds down the sink after an argument.
"We had a fight, and it ended with me going throwing everything down the sink. I was just a bit stressed." JJ admitted. She didn't think the doctor would need to know everything.
"Was it a bad fight?" The neurologist asked
"No."
"Yes." JJ looked to Emily almost giving her a death stare.
Abi raised her eyebrows at the two. She wrote something in a pad and looked back to the two women. "Have you been having a lot of mood swings lately?"
"No."
"Yes." The brunette jumped in again.
"Emily stop." JJ snapped. When she realised, she had snapped she brought her hand to her forehead rubbing her temples.
The doctor this time ignored the snap from JJ. She typed something in her computer and a couple of pieces of paper printed out. "Alright. I'm going to send you for another scan." She handed Emily the paper which JJ read over her shoulder.
She shook her head. "I had one less than 2 weeks ago. Why do I need another?"
"I just want to check everything before I jump to any conclusions if there's anything to worry about, I'll tell you after. Come back to me when you've had the scan. I've got a couple of cancellations this afternoon." She said rolling back over to her computer to typed things. She grabbed her glasses from the desk putting them on. "I've just let the technicians know you're on your way. I'll see you back here in about an hour?"
"Sure. See you then." JJ and Emily stood. JJ slightly wobbly from her seizure 10 minutes ago. They made their way to the MRI machine.
