A set of five 100 word drabbles that take place in Ats season five. They are connected and make a short story.

Hours

He's only been here a few hours now. Fred has done all her tests and Angel has done all his posturing. Spike finally gets a moment to himself. But ten minutes into enjoying the quiet solitude that allows him to think and he finds that he really doesn't want it. It's too quiet and it's too lonely. He needs someone to remind him that he's still there.

It's the first office he comes across and he steps through the door to meet Wesley's surprised gaze. He expects to be told to leave but when he isn't, settles in to stay.

Days

The days go by and Spike finds himself more often than not holed up in Wesley's office. Everyday he keeps expecting for Wesley to chase him out, tell Spike to let him be. Wesley doesn't need a useless ghost hovering around and distracting him from his work.

Spike tries to give him space, goes out to annoy Angel and get into another pointless fight. He follows behind Fred and lets her subject him to more tests. But after all that, everyday finds him back at the door to Wesley's office. Stepping through and finding an expectantly welcoming gaze meeting his.

Weeks

All the time they've spent together in silence and they never bother to talk. Spike wants to sometimes but Wesley's own silence compels Spike to keep it. It kept him fidgeting at first, wondering if Wesley wasn't trying to hint him to leave but soon enough, it becomes comfortable. He watches Wesley work and takes the silent support.

It's not until weeks later, when he's solid and real again that Wesley says something when Spike steps into his office.

"I didn't think you'd come here anymore." And he offers Spike a drink. Spike takes it gratefully and sits.

Months

It takes Spike a shorter period of time than he would have thought to start feeling like a part of this new group. They accept him easier, than anything he was expecting. He actually thinks that he's starting to make friends. With Fred, with Gunn.

And he could never forget Wesley, who's been there for months now.

He's growing more confident in his standings with these people. Wesley needs to be thanked properly and Spike does it as brazenly as he does most things. A kiss to surprised lips and a moment of shock before Wesley is pulling him in.

Years

The first kiss stays with him for years. That little gasp of breath over his lips when Wesley seemed to have little clue what Spike was about to do. Wide blue eyes. Spike remembers the moment of near fear when he found he wasn't so sure as he'd thought on how Wesley would react. The relief when he felt himself pulled closer and kissed again.

The act plays out in his mind and he can remember every little detail down to Wesley's scent. It's what he's got now, just the memory. It's enough as long as he can keep it.
