AN: I have more for you!

Read and Review

Hotch had arrived as the paramedics were wheeling JJ out of the house on a stretcher. Emily stood at the door with a bag, one her and JJ had decided to prepare for hospital in case of emergencies, but when she saw Hotch she raced out. Following JJ. She shouted a quick thank you to her boss and waved the kids goodbye. They were going to be in good hands. She could talk to her boss properly later. Surely, he would understand.

The ambulance ride was quick. In that brief time, they had managed to carry out the tests they could in the back of the van and hooked JJ up to a bunch of machines. The medication they gave her hadn't worked fully. The convulsing wasn't as severe, but she was still going. The longer it went the more worried Emily got.

"Jennifer Jareau, 34, in status, seizing for the last 20 minutes, sustained a TBI 8 and a half months ago. Has a VP shunt due to hydrocephalus, it was replaced 6 months ago. BP is 150 over 98, HR is 160, O2 is 90. 2 doses of IM Buccolam and Midazolam given before arrival. She was gasping when we arrived, with oxygen still wheezing but improved." The paramedics passed JJ over to the doctors who were waiting. Emily followed them as far as she could go, but once they reached the trauma room, she was sent to the waiting room. She couldn't go back with them.

Emily went to the waiting room; she dropped the small bag to the floor before collapsing into her seat. Listening to everything the paramedics and doctors had said scared her. She had spent some time reading about status epilepticus. It was a big medical emergency, and 20% of cases lead to death. 1 in 5 people died from a seizure going on longer than 5 minutes and the longer they seized the greater the likelihood that would happen to her. She let tears fall. Her wife could die.

Dr Abi West had been called down to the ER. A patient had come in seizing and was in status. She was going to monitor everything and run the trauma room. She'd had a long ass day and it was only half 4. But she downed her coffee and entered the room. Nothing prepared her for seeing one of her favourite patients on the bed, still having a fit. "What happened?" She walked over taking a look at the woman who lay with a towel wrapped round her middle.

"Status for 25 minutes. Her wife said they were talking when she collapsed. We've given her benzodiazepines, she's not keeping her oxygen levels up, what do you want to do next doc." The young and new doctor asked, the more experienced.

"Set up an infusion of Dilantin now. Someone get me an intubation tray now." She looked to the nurses and young doctors getting to work. She had to fix this. They had come on leaps and bounds since she was first brought into hospital. She was going to fix this. She wasn't going to tell her wife that the woman in front of her was part of the 20% of patients who never came out of this.

They all worked quickly. The infusion was set up quickly and Abi tried her best to intubate JJ. 100% oxygen wasn't doing anything through a mask. So, it was vital but while she was seizing it was hard to do. She changed her plan. She had to. She quickly made her way to the draws which help the phenobarbital. She unhooked the previous infusion and pushed the drug in her hand. "I need a Phenobarbital infusion. We are going to put her in a medically induced coma until she comes out of status, I need an MRI and a full blood panel asap." She kept working and soon managed to get JJ in the medically induced coma and intubated. JJ was sent up to the neuro ICU. Abi went to find Emily.

As she walked to the waiting room doors, she paused watching Emily. The brunette was sat in the back corner picking at her nails tears stains evident on her cheeks. She had noticed the nail picking was a nervous thing that she did. When she had informed Emily JJ's surgery went fine a few months ago she was doing it then. And again, when she was having seizures. She took in a deep breath and closed her eyes to gather herself and her emotions. Abi walked towards Emily and took a seat beside the anxious woman.

"How is she?" Emily asked looking to the doctor who looked after her wife.

"I'm sure you've heard JJ was in status epilepticus. She hasn't come out of it yet. So, we put her in a medically induced coma. It's stopped her body from convulsing, but her brain is still in seizure mode. We are going to continue treating her, in the ICU." Abi bit at the inside of cheek. She had never really given anything other than good news to the couple. But even the bad news she gave had always meant good news in the future. Right now, everything was up in the air, no one could predict what was going to happen.

Emily nodded, she had to try process everything. The doctors were doing everything they could. She had to remain positive. "Do you know why this happened? She's been taking all her medication. Do you think it could be the knock to the head she took a while ago?"

"Not yet. We are running all kinds of tests to see if we can find the cause. Sometimes we can't find it. But I'm gonna try. It could be a delayed reaction to the blast, or it could be something completely unrelated."

The agent put a slight smile on her face. "Thank you." She had to make sure the woman who looked exhausted knew how grateful she was for working so hard.

Dr West stood up in front of Emily. "Do you wanna come see her?"

"Yeah." Both stood up and walked towards the elevator.

Abi pressed the button waiting for the ding and doors to open so she could take Emily to her patient. "So I noticed that she had the marks again on her chest and legs. Is everything okay?"

Emily sighed. "Yeah, she's doing EMDR at the moment. She's been having a tough time. But she wanted to do it because she wants to get better. She wants another baby. We were gonna ask you at her appointment next week if she could carry or not." She was getting better. She was going to. Emily just wished they could skip the hard steps and be at the end where they were recovered with a new addition to the family.

"Ah. Well, I'll come patch them up for her soon." Abi had JJ's full notes and knew everything. She had seen them when they did the surgery and had spoken about them even with the couple in one of the many appointments. It crossed her mind that the significant stress from the therapy could be what had caused this today, but she wanted to carry out full tests before she jumped to conclusions.

"Thank you. Thank you for everything." She couldn't be more grateful for everything this woman did for them. They weren't too far from the ICU. Emily knew these halls too well she had been here too many times. Not even for herself. For her wife who seemed to have the biggest streak of bad luck going. She knew that people were worse off. But for her. What was in front of her, JJ had the bad luck. Their whole family did.

When they arrived outside the room Emily stopped. She looked at the wires round her wife. The tube in her throat. She was wearing a gown, and blankets were at her feet. A couple of nurses were in her room, sorting things like her IV and adjusting the machines. She slowly opened the door and stepped in. She had to keep control of herself. Breathe. She just had to keep breathing. "Baby." She placed her hand on top of JJ's "You've got this okay. I'm gonna be here the whole time okay. The whole time." Emily leant her head back and shook it willing away the tears that were going to fall. She was going to be okay.

By 6pm JJ had been seizing for an hour and 50 minutes. She was on a couple of infusions which Emily hadn't really heard the name of. She'd been watching the EEG monitor, waiting for the big spikes to drop. She'd texted Hotch and had set up a phone call before he and Beth started bathing the kids and getting them in bed. She picked up the phone her eyes not wanting to leave the monitor. "Hey Hotch."

"Hi Emily. How are things?" He was concerned. All he saw when he arrived was JJ convulsing on a stretcher and Emily following her.

"No change, she's still unconscious, they've pumped her full of drugs, but her brain is still seizing. They are running a bunch of tests, but I've not heard much back." She hated how much was still unsure about what was going on.

In her head Emily could imagine Hotch one arm crossed over his chest, keeping his static face. "Do you need anything?" He asked. He was stood in the doorway of the living room where all the Jareau-Prentiss children sat with his own and his wife.

She kept a hold on JJ's hand an eye on the monitors, "No, I'm good and JJ's in good hands. There's not much we can do. It's up to JJ and the doctors." She sighed slightly defeated. "Can I speak to the kids?"

"Here." He put the phone on speaker letting the kids hear their mother. Emily could hear the clanging of the phone an Hotch must have put the phone down somewhere.

"Hey babies. Are you all okay?" A small smile spread on her face, she loved hearing her kids voice. It had only been a couple of hours since she saw them, but she missed them.

"Yeah Mommy. Where are you?" Michael asked.

The brunette pursed her lips, she hadn't told the younger ones where exactly she was. Henry knew, but she just told them earlier she was heading out with Momma. "I'm at the hospital with Momma. But Uncle Aaron is staying tonight so you get a sleepover. What did you have for dinner?" She hoped that would be enough of a distraction.

"Unca Aaron got Piz'a." Young Gracie said excitedly. Emily laughed slightly. Take out wasn't a regular thing in their house, mainly because when the mothers were on cases that was all they ate, and it got slightly boring. But when they did order in they had Pizza every time and didn't stop hearing about how good it was for days afterwards.

"Oh, you guys had Pizza. I bet that was yummy, did you save me any?" The older mother teased her kids.

"Ooops, we forgot." Luke giggled.

"Ah well it means we might have to have Pizza tomorrow too. How does that sound?" A bunch of cheers came from the other side of the phone. They loved Pizza. "Are you all gonna be good for Aaron and Beth?"

Henry pipped up from his side of the phone. "Yeah Mom. I'm looking after them like you asked."

"Thank you, Henry." She placed her own phone on speaker phone hoping JJ could hear something. "Can you all tell your Momma you love her?" She asked the young children. A bunch of I love yous came from the other side of the phone. Emily then gave them all their love and said good night before hanging up the phone and putting it away in her pocket. She wanted to keep it brief knowing it was soon to be bedtime, and the bedtime routine for someone other than the mothers or Alice took significantly longer.

Abi walked into the room as she heard the end of the conversation. She smiled, loving how sweet they all were. And loving the idea of the big family the two women had. She looked to the machines and smiled. She walked to JJ's bedside. "Cute kids."

"Yeah, they can be when they want to be. When they wake you up at 6am because they are hungry. They aren't so cute." 6 am wake up calls were not her thing. Neither herself nor JJ were particularly morning people.

A knowing laugh came from the doctor. Those mornings weren't what she missed, especially after she would come home from a 32-hour shift at the hospital. "Yeah, I only have one, but I had her when I was 17 so she's 18 now. I don't have that anymore, but I do have the 'mom can I have some money, mom can you buy me these super expensive clothes.'" She checked over the wires and medication adjusting things for the patient lay in the bed.

"Luckily all ours really care for are toys. But I dread the day they are all teens, JJ melts whenever they ask for something, so she's going to be the one that makes us skint. I think I'm gonna have to harden her up before then, we only have 3 years until the teenage years hit us." Secretly she couldn't' wait to see what kid of people her kids were going to become. They all had amazing personalities at their young ages, and they were just going to grow.

"Don't forget those preteen years, when the hormones first come in. I didn't like those years. Her hormones were worse then, than they are now." Abi could never forget her teenage years. Rebelling a lot which led her to a teen pregnancy. Getting pregnant was the best thing for her because her life flipped round and led her to the job she was in today.

"Yeah, don't remind me. I vaguely remember mine being really bad." Her emo/goth stage hadn't been the best choice for her. She remembered the wild hair, the black clothes and make up and the bad attitude that went along with it. God help her if any of the kids turned out how she was.

"Mine were too. My mom had her hands full with me and my sister." The two laughed glad their teen years were well behind them and they had managed to grow up and were different to how they were back then. "Wanna see something good?"

Emily sat up slightly in her chair looking over JJ to see what the doctor had spotted. "Yeah."

"She's stopped seizing," Dr West stepped aside to allow Emily to see the machine which showed no seizure activity. "and although brain activity although seems little less than what it should be, it's good. I'm going to lower the aesthetic slowly over the next couple of hours to see if she goes back into a seizure, but we've given her a lot of drugs, so I don't expect her to wake for a good couple of hours. Her pupils are equal and responsive. So, I'm going to remain positive for now."

"That's amazing, any time frame on her waking up? I know you said more than a couple hours but, you know I just wanna see her eyes." Emily missed the ocean blue eyes which had stolen her heart from the moment she saw them.

"Not really, sorry." She wished she had a better time frame, but each patient was different. Right now, she wasn't sure what kind of frame they would have until all the anaesthesia was out off JJ's body." Certainly not for the next couple of hours at least, with the amount of drugs we put in her I want to say it'll be into tomorrow, but it could be as soon as we lower the anaesthetic given she doesn't go back into a seizure, there's no given time. But even then, when she does wake her muscles are going to be very relaxed and exhausted. She probably won't be up for walking or moving for a few days." In her career as head or Neuro, she had seen many people come through the hospital with status. Some recovered in hours, others it took days or weeks.

"So, she's gonna be here for a few days?" Emily grimaced. She had a long list of stuff she was going to have to sort. Strauss was not going to be happy she was going to have to take more time off, she needed childcare, because she wasn't going to leave JJ alone here, but she didn't want to leave the kids at home alone, she was going to have to start making calls.

"Yeah, for sure. But if things keep getting better and they go how I'm hoping they go, she could come out of ICU tomorrow or the day after so you could bring in the kids, then I can finally meet them too." She smiled. JJ was going to be under her care for a long time. It would be nice to get well rounded knowledge on the patient who was going to be seeing her at least twice a year.

Emily took a mental note to buy something nice for the doctor who cared for her wife each time they came in not only checking on the seizures and the shunt, but also checking on everything else in her life and having a proper catch up. "Thank you."

Over the next couple of hours sedation was reduced on JJ, Abi had been in and out all evening, and at 10pm she set up camp in the room with Emily. She was on call and had to closely monitor the EEG. If she went back into a seizure while now off sedation she would be there to quickly come into action. It was going to be a long night for everyone. But as long as JJ stayed stable things would be okay.
